Mary Strauss Noll, 64, of O'Hara Township, on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999. Wife of Walter Noll. Mother of Virginia Noll Cassidy and Peter Noll. Grandmother of Kevin and Peter Cassidy. Sister of Charles F. Strauss and Joseph W. Strauss, and the late Sister M. Immaculate, Anne, Edward J., Richard A., and Philip F. Strauss. Dr. Strauss Noll was a professor of English at Penn State University, New Kensington Campus. SAM PANUCCI
Sam Panucci, 65, of Brookline, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999. Son of the late Rocco and Lena Panucci. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Aveni Panucci; a sister, Mary Grace Gourley; and his mother- and father-in-law, Dominic and Mary Aveni. Father of Joseph (Shirley), Rocco (Maria), Theresa, Domenic (Tammy), Marisa (Chuck), and Marc Panucci. Grandfather of Jade, Sam, John, Kala, Adam, Alaina and Anthony. Brother of Nick Puglin, Josephine Rosenberger and Vince Panucci. Mr. Panucci was director of catering for the (Westin) William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh. Friends will be received at the BRUSCO-FALVO FUNERAL HOME, 214 Virginia Ave., Mt. Washington, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Loreto Church, Brookline, Saturday at 11 a.m.
THE REV. JOHN J. SCANLON
The Rev. John J. Scanlon, 84, of North Versailles, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 4, 1915, in Pittsburgh. He was the former pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, East McKeesport. He was ordained on June 14, 1942, in St. Vincent Archabbey by Bishop Boyle. His first parish was St. Canice in Knoxville from Oct. 8, 1942, to June 25, 1952. He went on to St. James in Wilkinsburg (June 26, 1952, to June 25, 1957), St. Paul's in Butler (June 13, 1957, to Jan. 16, 1962), and Our Lady of Victory in Harwick (Jan. 17, 1962 to June 6, 1966). He then served as pastor of St. Robert's from June 7, 1966, until his retirement on June 22, 1992. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Florence Scanlon of Pittsburgh; a niece, Florence "Bunny" Wilmot; two grandnephews; and many friends. Friends will be received Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. in the JAMES F. KUTCH FUNERAL HOME, 433 Greensburg Ave. (Route 30), East McKeesport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, East McKeesport, with Bishop Donald Wuerl as celebrant. ANTHONY M. TYSKA
Anthony M. Tyska, 87, formerly of Everson, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 23, 1999, in Means Personal Care Home, Connellsville, where he had been a resident for the past two years. He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Steve Tyska. Anthony was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson, and was a retired coal miner. He is survived by a son, Anthony Tyska of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Sylvia Jean Goodyear and her husband, James, of Carlisle and Sally Ann Koval of Scottdale; and his extended family, Karen and Russell Christner and their children, Eric, Stacey and Randy, of Everson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Mucha Tyska, on Oct. 17, 1973. Friends will be received in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the time of a blessing service with the Rev. Dennis A. Bogusz, pastor of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Everson, officiating. I. Thamer Vandergraft Jr., of Plum, on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999. Husband of Shirley Mae (Leslie) Vandergraft. Father of I. Thamer Vandergraft III, Fran VanHorn, Kathy Wisniewski, Shirley "Chobo" Coy, Anna Evans, Jan Vida, Daniel Vandergraft, and the late Thomas Shane Vandergraft. Brother of Anne Barone. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the JACK W. Michael A. Adams Jr., 92, of Wall, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999. He was a son of the late Michael A. Sr. and Elizabeth (Petrosky) Adams. Beloved husband of 63 years of Margaret (Olear) Adams. Father of Judith (Walter) Smith and Richard W. (the late Bonnie) Adams. Grandfather of Alan W., Gary E., and Mark W. Smith and Chad Bielec. Great-grandfather of Ryan A., Kyle, Michael Ross and Julia M. Smith. Brother of Elizabeth Ruszkiewicz, and the late Ann Hochlinski, Mary Ersik, and George Adams; numerous nieces and nephews. Emma R. Blaney, 95, of Perryopolis, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at 2:10 p.m., in Havencrest Nursing Home, Monongahela. She was born Feb. 29, 1904, in Perryopolis, a daughter of the late Albert William and Edith Moore Ramsier. Emma was a retired elementary school teacher from Perry Township School District. A lifelong member of the First Christian Church, Perryopolis. A member of the Perryopolis Senior Citizen Center, and Pennsylvania and Fayette County Association of School Retirees. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ruth A. McIlravey, of Bartow, Fla.; two nieces, Mrs. Robert (Agnes) Sobrito of LaMesa, Calif., and Ms. Mary Jane Ramsier of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Blaney; a brother, Russell L. Ramsier Sr.; a sister, Gertrude Ramsier; and a nephew, Russell L. Ramsier Jr. Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 E. MARIETTA CHAPMAN
Marietta Chapman, of McKeesport, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in McKeesport Hospital. Born Dec. 8, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late John and Anna Mae Chadwick Wills. Wife of the late Thomas E. Chapman. Former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, North Huntingdon Township, a member of the Pin Busters of White Oak Bowling Lanes, the McKeesport Turner's, and the Gold Key Club of the McKeesport Hospital. Survived by four daughters, Barbara Stuffer of Jeannette, Teddi Madak of White Oak Borough, Diane Stuffer of Delmont, and Ruth Ann Hiner of Farmington Hills, Mich.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Friends are being received today in the WILLIAM H. CRAIG FUNERAL HOME, 3000 Versailles Ave., McKeesport, Pa., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David Weeks officiating. Interment will be in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township.
GEORGE L. GRIMM
George L. Grimm, 66, of Connellsville, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at his home. He was born April 19, 1933, in Springfield Township, a son of the late Roy and Dorothy Eiford Grimm. He was a self-employed developer and contractor of both commercial and residential properties. In 1968, he purchased the land known as Georgetown Manor in Dunbar Township, and he began that development. He was a former member of the Bullskin Water Authority, and he donated time and equipment for the Bullskin Swim Club. Mr. Grimm also restored antique cars and trucks and was a member of the Antique Car Club. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #503 of Connellsville and a member of the Slovak Club of Connellsville. Among his hobbies, Mr. Grimm loved to cook, especially wild game, and was also an avid hunter and a cunning card player. He is survived by his family, whom he dearly loved, his wife, Margaret Biler Grimm; three children, Janice Pritts of Connellsville, Barcine Graft and her husband, Dennis, of Connellsville and Ralph Grimm and his wife, Holly, of Normalville; six grandchildren, Vanessa Pritts, Koleen Grimm, Christopher Grimm, Casey Graft, Jessica Graft and Levi Graft; a great-grandchild, Skylar Johnston; and six brothers, Howard Grimm and his wife, Dolly, of Indian Head, Jackson Grimm and his wife, Joan, and Richard Grimm and his wife, Lilly, both of Normalville, Ronald Grimm and his wife, Jean, Kenneth Grimm and his wife, Carol, and Bernard Ohler and his wife, Joanne, all of Connellsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Ellsworth Grimm; and a sister, Anna Ruth Grimm. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. John Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
