Yee of Bridgeville; Carol J. Woo of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Jenny A. Shafer, Elkview, W.Va., and grandmother of Sarah and Aaron Woo, Tyler and Evan Yee, and Joshua and Jason Shafer. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in H. SAMSON INC., 537 Neville St., Pittsburgh, where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Homewood Cemetery.
Catherine "Cush" Zihmer, 68, a resident of Center Township for 40 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born Dec. 21, 1930, in Aliquippa, she was a retired business manager from the Aliquippa Public Schools, and was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, Center Township. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Hawanchak. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Michael Zihmer Jr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph M. III and Caroline Zihmer, Frederick, Md., and two brothers-in-law, George Slezak and wife, Rita, Oil City, Pa., and Richard Zihmer and wife, Leona, and family, Hopewell Township. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DARROCH MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a service will be conducted Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Center Township. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
Dorothy E. (Rock) Batvinskas, 74, of Hopewell Township, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999. Born April 10, 1924, in West Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Bosko) Rock. A 1941 graduate of Vincentian High School, she was a retired employee of Egers Jewelers and Henry Berger Jewelers with 42 years of service. Mrs. Batvinskas was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, Hopewell Township; Our Lady of Fatima Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and Hopewell VFW Post 8805 Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, John J. Batvinskas; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and John Laky, Palmerton, Pa.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. and Melissa Batvinskas, Hopewell Township, and Paul "Drew" and Gina Batvinskas, Independence Township; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marge Rock, West Aliquippa, and a sister, Betty (Rock) Bozzo, Tarzana, Calif. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WAYNE N. James Bott, 81, of New Port Richey, Fla., died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in Florida. Born Sept. 20, 1917, in Ambridge, a son of Frances and Mildred Bott, he was a retired steelworker from LTV Steel. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, New Port Richey; Aliquippa Local 1211, United Steelworkers of America, and Chester McKay VFW Post 7987. Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Markey Bott; a son, Mark E. Bott, Munhall; a daughter, Carrie P. Carter, Emmaus, Pa.; six grandchildren; a brother, John A. Bott, Mercer, Pa., and a sister, Betty Jane Dotson, Lakewood, N.J. A blessing service will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the DARROCH MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, with Father Mikah officiating. Interment will be in John Anderson Memorial Cemetery.
Mary A. Colonna, 81, of Center Township and formerly of Monaca where she resided for 70 years, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born May 7, 1917, in Youngwood, Pa., a daughter of the late Angelo and Onorato Colonna, she was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Monaca. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all who came in contact with her. The love of her life was her family, yet she welcomed all with open arms and a warm heart. She is survived by three daughters and one son and their spouses, Bertha (Martin) and Stephen Moakley Jr., with whom she resided; Janet and Frank Parker, Center Township; Anita and Donald Regney, Monaca, and John and Shirley DeFelice, Monaca. She also leaves behind two dear friends, Rosemarie and Ron Book, Freedom. She had 15 beloved grandchildren. Six granddaughters and their spouses, Linda Robinson and fiance Allan McCoy, Clinton, Pa.; Deborah and John Bayer, West Brownsville, Pa.; Julie and Tony DiMatteo, Monaca; Lynn DeFelice, Monaca; Suzanne and Michael Vlasic, Hatfield, Pa., and Kelly Martin, Center Township; nine grandsons and their spouses, Frank and Anita Park, Edinboro, Pa.; Daniel and Carrie Buccini, Maumee, Ohio; Donald and Sue Regney, Monaca; Joseph and Tracy DeFelice, Monaca; Frank and Sherry Regney, Beaver; John and Sue DeFelice, Ambridge; Anthony and Tina DeFelice, New Brighton; Michael and Tammy DeFelice, Monaca, and Christan and Dawn DeFelice, Monaca; 27 great-grandchildren, Denise and Jeffrey Robinson; Tami and Shannon Buccini; Brianne and Michael Bayer; Justine and Alison Parker; Melanie Vlasic; Sheena and Sammy DeMatteo; Benjamin and Samantha Regney; Russell and Mary Regney; Joey, Brandon, Daryn and Jocelyn DeFelice; Cory and Mandy DeFelice; John Angelo and Bobby Miles DeFelice; Michael Angelo DeFelice; Nicolas, and Kristyn and Zachary DeFelice. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monaca.
Dorothy Hunter Duncan, 74, of 135 Second Ave., Aliquippa, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at her residence. Born June 30, 1924, in Aliquippa, a daughter of the late Elias and Mamie Taylor Hunter, she was a graduate of Aliquippa High School and attended Spellman University, Atlanta, Ga., where she was working on a degree in education. She was a retired employee of U.S. Airways, retiring in 1985 after 18 years service as a reservation sales agent. She was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, Aliquippa, for 50 years, where she was a member of Stewardess Board No. 2 and formerly served on the Usher Board and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Heroins of Jericho, and the Court of Clanthe, all of Aliquippa. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mansfield Duncan; two brothers, J.D. Hunter and Elijah Hunter, and two sisters, Calanthe Boyd and Celeste "Pip" Peatross. Surviving are two daughters, Imogene Patterson and Karen Duncan, both of Aliquippa; three grandchildren, Janita and Cortney Patterson, and Kativa Ralph, all of Aliquippa; a stepmother, Mary Frances Hunter, Aliquippa; a brother, Samuel Hunter, Hemstead, N.Y.; two sisters, Charlotte McIver, Aliquippa, and Ethel Lee Richardson, Sanford, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; a goddaughter, Adele Hall, Aliquippa; devoted friends, Calvin and Phyllis Turner, Mary Thomas, and Louise McCoy, and a host of other relatives and friends. Friends will be received Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, Aliquippa, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Ranzer Gipson Jr., 66, of 150 Baker St., Aliquippa, was called home to his glory on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in the Sewickley Valley Hospital, following an extended illness. Born July 10, 1932, in Americus, Ga., a son of the late Ranzer Sr. and Christine Patrick Gipson, he was a devoted member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Aliquippa, serving as a deacon, former chairman of the deacon board and a member of the senior choir. He was formerly employed as an inspector of the 14 inch mill of the LTV Steel Corp., and was a former member of Aliquippa Local 1211, United Steelworkers of America. He was a captain of the Aliquippa Auxiliary Police, and had served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Flossie McCorvey Gipson; a son and daughter-in-law, Edwin L. and Okhui Gipson, Greenville, N.C.; an adopted son, Michael Rogers, Hopewell Township; a sister, Louise Williams, Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Alvin Gipson, Aliquippa; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Gipson, Edith Gipson and Janice Gipson, all of Aliquippa, and Annie Maude Lee, Peterman, Ala.; a brother-in-law, Jay C. Randerson, in Alabama; devoted friends, Charles Gilbert, Willie Florence, Monroe Bradshaw and Jerry Stuck Sr., all of Aliquippa; Sadie Dukes, in Florida; Leonetta Walker Harvey, Pittsburgh, and Callie Edwards, Moss Point, Miss., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers, James L. Jones, James O. Gipson Sr., Donald Gipson Sr. and Clarence Gipson; a sister, Thelma H. Turner, and a sister-in-law, Thelma Gipson. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church, Aliquippa. Mr. Gipson will lie in state Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. in the church. The Rev. Jesse L. McFarland will officiate. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, Daugherty Township. Anita Louise Hayden, 61, of 200 Church Lane, Sewickley, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in her home. Born April 28, 1937, in Aliquippa, a daughter of the late Daniel D. and Mary Vignovich Hayden, she was employed as an art teacher for the Cornell School District. She was a member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church, Aliquippa, and the Serbian National Federation. She was also a member of the National Education Association; the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the Cornell Education Association. Surviving are two aunts, Dorothy Hayden and Barbara Hayden, both of Burgettstown; four nieces, Violet Omogrosso, Beaver Falls; Ann Vignovich and Boyanne Essey, both of Aliquippa, and Joan Vignovich, Atlanta, Ga., and two nephews, George T. Hayden, Burgettstown, and John Hayden, Lansing, Ill. She was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Ann Hayden. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the HUNTSMAN ALIQUIPPA FUNERAL HOME, 2345 Mill St., where services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church, Aliquippa, with the Very Rev. Stevan Stepanov officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa. Pomen services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Nellie Leasha, 82, of Aliquippa, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in the Mariner Health Care Center West, Moon Township. Born Dec. 6, 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Siszko. Mrs. Leasha was a retired employee of the former Jacobson's Clothing Store, Aliquippa, and was a member of St. Titus Roman Catholic Church, Aliquippa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam "Slick" Leasha, in 1996, and two brothers, Edward and Michael Siszko. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Eileen Leasha, Hopewell Township; two grandchildren, Dawn Marie Johnson and her husband, Jeffrey, in North Carolina, and Dean Kostlich, New York City, N.Y.; a loving sister-in-law, Jean Leasha, Center Township, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. in the WAYNE N. Angeline Furguille LeDonne, 89, formerly of Monaca, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center, Beaver. She was a dedicated mother and eminently devoted grandmother. Born Jan. 18, 1910, in Italy, a daughter of the late Joseph and Adeline Furguille, she was a resident of Monaca since 1920 and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. She was employed by Phoenix Glass Company, Monaca, for 40 years, retiring in September 1972. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mario LeDonne, in 1957; a son, Frank LeDonne, in 1984, and a grandson, Fred Mullen, in 1966, who was killed while serving in the armed forces during the Vietnam War. She leaves three sons and their spouses, Edward and Gertrude LeDonne, New Brighton; Robert and Eleanor LeDonne, Rochester, and Chris and Edwina LeDonne, Aliquippa; three daughters and their spouses, Loretta Phillips, Beaver Falls; Della and Leon Whipple, Pittsburgh, and Mary Ann and Arthur Broadbent, Ravenna, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a beloved sister, Yolanda Furguille Belic, Rochester. Private family visitation will be held this evening in the SIMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where relatives and friends are respectfully invited for recitation of prayers Friday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, West Aliquippa, with Father Paul Savage as the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum. The family suggests memorial contributions be made, if desired, to the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center, Friendship Circle, Beaver, Pa. 15009, or a charity of the donor's choice.
