Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com Paul R. Angelo Sr., 90, of Neville Township, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, in Sewickley Valley Hospital. Born June 24, 1908, in Pittsburgh, to Joseph and Tnez (Tucker) Angelo, he worked as a ship fitter for 36 years at Dravo Corporation. He was a member of the Coraopolis Elks, the Eagles, the Moose, VFW Post 402, Dravo Seniors, AFL-CIO 61, and the Moose Club Degree Team. He was a member of the 1924 graduating class of Coraopolis High School. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Matilda Chastko Angelo on Feb. 17, 1999; a sister, Thelma Duncan; a brother, Harry Angelo, and a grandson, Ronald Paul Angelo. Surviving are two sons, Paul R. Angelo Jr., Boston, Ga., and Robert J. Angelo, Marlton, N.J.; two sisters, Frances Tassone, Moon Township, and Delores McHaffie, Moon Township; two brothers, Ralph and Joseph Angelo, Coraopolis, and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the COPELAND CORAOPOLIS FUNERAL HOME, 867 Fifth Ave., where a service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Coraopolis Cemetery.
Evelyn W. Arthur, 83, of Chippewa Township, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born July 2, 1915, in Wilmington, Del., a daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Weider Burns, she was a member of the Chippewa United Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, W. Emerson Arthur; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Grace Arthur, Palatine, Ill., and W. Scott and Dana Arthur, Chippewa Township; a grandson, Jonathan Arthur, Chicago, Ill.; two granddaughters, Lisa and her husband, Mark Fox, United Arab Emirated, and Jennifer Arthur, Pittsburgh; three sisters, Mary Tiedemann, Glenolden, Pa.; Gladys Edwards, Havertown, Pa., and Betty McCullough, Dallas, Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Burns. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the CAMPBELL'S CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME, 2618 Darlington Road, where a service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Frazier will officiate. Private interment
will be in the Beaver Falls Cemetery, Chippewa Township.
Margaret J. Sneddon Czambel, 71, of Oakdale, Pa., died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in St. Frances Medical Center, Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 7, 1927, in Mount Lebanon, Pa., a daughter of the late Thomas Sneddon and Elsie H. Kirsopp, she was a member of the Oakdale United Presbyterian Church, and she had an interest in the Boy Scouts of America. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Czambel. She is survived by three sons, Paul and his wife, Deborah, Oakdale, Pa.; Brian and his wife, Amy, Coraopolis, and Allan and his wife, Connie, Aliquippa. She was a loving grandmother of Heather, Scott, Sean, and Megan Czambel. Friends will be received today from 2 to 9 p.m. in the THOMAS-LITTLE FUNERAL SERVICE INC., 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale, Pa. A servcie will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Oakdale United Presbyterian Church, Corner of First and Hastings Avenue, Oakdale. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills. The family suggests donations be made, if desired, to the Oakdale United Presbyterian Church, Oakdale, Pa. 15071.
Jesse E. Edmunds, 77, of Economy, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, in the Sewickley Valley Hospital, after an extended illness. Born Oct. 31, 1921, in Callery, Butler County, a son of the late Howard W. and Mildred Spencer Edmunds, he retired from LTV Steel, Aliquippa, on May 9, 1983, after 35 years of service and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Ridge Road, Ambridge. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II from Aug. 4, 1942, to Oct. 21, 1945. During this time, he served in Africa, Germany, Italy, and France and attained the rank of Corporal of the Battery D 214th Anti-Aircraft Artillary Battalion. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six Bronze Stars. He reinlisted in the United States Army for a second time in 1946 and served as Staff Sergeant until 1949. An avid lover of music, Jesse was an accomplished guitarist who played the bass guitar in Mad Anthony's band and in several clubs in the area. He also enjoyed volunteering his time and talents at local nursing homes. Surviving are his wife, Violet Cafrelli Edmunds; a son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Philomena Edmunds, Aliquippa; four grandchildren, Brian, Chris, Melissa and Elizabeth; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and LeVerne Edmunds, Eastvale, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Belle Bull and Betty Gerazounis, and three brothers, Leroy, Melvin, and Robert Sr. Edmunds. Friends will be received today and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the GABAUER FUNERAL HOME INC. at SYLVANIA HILLS MEMORIAL PARK INC., where a service will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. Pastor Robert Fitzpatrick and Pastor Anthony J. Schneck will officiate. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum Inc., Daugherty Township. Full military rites will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit.
John Wendell Hemphill, 83, of the Reformed Presbyterian Retirement Home, Pittsburgh, and formerly of Enon Valley, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in the West Penn Hospital. Born March 13, 1913, in Northwood, Ohio, a son of the late Willis R. and Margaret Isabella Qua Hemphill, he was a member of the Geneva Reformed Presbyterian Church. A retired farmer and milk processor, he was a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years on Jan. 2, 1999, Mabel McCready Hemphill, and a son, Boyd W. Hemphill. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard M. and Nancy Hemphill, Kansas City, Kans.; David W. and Bonny Hemphill, Beaver Falls, and Paul W. and Nancy Hemphill, Cranberry Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Stanley Perry, Shawnee, Kans.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Marguerite Dean, North Sewickley Township, and four brothers, Rev. Raymond Hemphill, Broomfield, Colo.; Robert Hemphill, Williard E. Hemphill and Kenneth Hemphill, all of Beaver Falls. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the CAMPBELL'S BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 14th Street and Eighth Avenue. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Geneva Reformed Presbyterian Church, 4th Avenue and 31st Street, with his pastor, the Rev. Bruce Backensto officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bruce Hemphill and the Rev. Renwick Wright. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery, Big Beaver. Ruth Hartman Jewell, 69, of New Brighton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in The Beaver Valley Geriatric Center. Born Aug. 22, 1929, in Zelienople, a daughter of the late Roy and Blanche Lusby Hartman, she was a member of the New Brighton Free Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Debbie Jewell, Chippewa Township, and Michael and Penny Jewell, Niles, Ohio; a grandson, Rob Jewell, and a granddaughter, Adrienne Jewell, both of Niles, Ohio; a sister and brother-in-law, Billie and Lewis Ankney, Valerica, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Jessie Hartman, Beaver Falls, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, George and Roy, and a brother, Donald Hartman, in 1997. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Merlin Baker, assisted by the Rev. Charles Jewell. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township. Tony J. Marzlak, 84, of Crescent Township, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in Allegheny General Hospital. Born Dec. 26, 1914, in McKees Rocks, a son of the late Anton and Frances Cavlovic Marzlak, he was a retired employee of the Seamless Tube Department of LTV Steel, Aliquippa. He was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Crescent Township; C.F.U. American Serbian Club; Crescent Township Volunteer Fire Department, and the Allegheny County Chiefs Association. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Fabec Marzlak; a son, Ralph Marzlak, Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Bonnie Marzlak, San Francisco, Calif., and a sister, Cathryn Swartz, Crescent Township. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Marzlak. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WAYNE N. TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, where a service will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 1 p.m. in St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Wireton. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. The Crescent Township Volunteer Firemen will conduct a service today at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Barbara Mikovich, 90, of Aliquippa, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, in UPMC-Beaver Valley. Born Feb. 7, 1909, in Aliquippa, a daughter of the late James Mikovich and Frances (Shutti) Mikovich-Yazvac, she was a member of St. Titus Catholic Church, Aliquippa. Surviving are three nephews, James J. Agich, Calcutta, Ohio; Dr. George J. Agich and his wife, Mary Kate, Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Robert Rock and his wife, Marion, in New Jersey; two nieces, Margaret Faltenovich and her husband, Jerry, Hopewell Township, and Margaret Yazvac, Stowe, Ohio, and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Rock and Mary M. Agich. Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the WAYNE N. TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa. Complete arrangements will be announced in Tuesday's Times.
Robert R. Pardue, 62, of Raccoon Township, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born Feb. 28, 1936, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., a son of Ray F. Pardue, Raccoon Township, and the late Hattie M. Pardue, he was a retired teacher and Director of Guidance for the South Side Area School District, where he worked for 30 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Beaver County Cancer and Heart Association Inc. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, movies, cooking and traveling. Surviving are his wife, Emma K. (Trdina) Pardue; a brother, Frank Pardue, Cocoa Beach, Fla., and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOSEPH M. SOMMA FUNERAL HOME, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Moon Run, Robinson Township, Allegheny County, where a service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Center Township.
Homer Boyd Potts, 65, of Hookstown, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver, following a lengthy illness. Born April 10, 1933, in Hookstown, a son of Wilda Boyd Potts, Hookstown, and the late Howard C. Potts, he was a retired employee of the former Colt Industries, Midland. He attended the Hookstown Free Methodist Church and was a Charter Member of the Hookstown Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Beaver Valley Historical Society and a former member of the South Side Area School Board and the Hookstown Boro Council. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Fetty Potts; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce H. and Jody Potts, Brighton Township; Steven L. and Sandy Potts, Georgetown, and Brian H. and Margie Potts, Chester; two daughters, Ursula M. Potts, in Alabama, and Mrs. J.D. (Elizabeth A.) Halulko, Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren, and two brothers, Jack Potts and Milton (Bunk) Potts, both of Hookstown. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, Hookstown, where a service will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Wilmer J. Olszewski. Interment will be in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Hookstown.
