Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com Shirley Ann Scarbrough, 68, of Center Township and formerly of Raccoon Township, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in her home following a brief illness. Born Jan. 5, 1931, in Stowe Township, a daughter of the late Harry C. Sr. and Ida (Eshenbaugh) Ashton, she was a member of Mt. Carmel United Presbyterian Church, Aliquippa. She was a retired retail manager and a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. Shirley was an avid bingo player, a wonderful mom, and a proud grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin "Vic" Scarbrough, on Aug. 26, 1991, and a brother, Harry C. Ashton Jr. She will be sadly missed by three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Daniel DeSantis, Hopewell Township; Cindy and Robert Thompson, Galloway, Ohio, and Caren Gennaro, Center Township, and five grandchildren, Daniel and Casey DeSantis, Bret and Lindsay Thompson, and Devan Gennaro. Friends will be received Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the WAYNE N. TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, where a service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jack Patrick, her pastor, officiating. Private interment
will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
George T. Sebastian Sr., 73, of Patterson Township and formerly of Monaca, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born Dec. 24, 1925, in Monaca, a son of the late Ralph F. and Caroline Sebastian, he was an Army veteran of World War II and was a serviceman retired after 40 years of service with Columbia Gas. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish Sr. Mary Worship Site and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, Rose H. Ciganik Sebastian; a son and daughter-in-law, George T. Jr. and Cindy Sebastian, Industry; two brothers, Mark Sebastian and Chris Sebastian, both of West Mayfield; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose and Michael Petterson, Rochester; Elvie Romano, College Hill, and Mary Lokey, in Florida, and two grandchildren, Jonathan Sebastian, Imperial, and Jessica Kunca, Industry. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Joseph, and Arthur Sebastian. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LUTTON BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 1117 Fifth Ave. Prayers will be recited Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church with Father Myers officiating. Entombment will follow in Williamsburg Mausoleum, Chippewa Township.
Dorothy J. Sheets, 74, of Daugherty Township, died Friday, March 12, 1999, unexpectedly in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born Feb. 17, 1925, in Rochester Township, a daughter of the late John and Ethel (Hughes) Dishler, she was a volunteer for many years at the former St. Joseph Catholic grade school's cafeteria and then worked for a number of years on the assembly line at the former Westinghouse Electric, Beaver. She was a member of the Catholic Community of Holy Family Parish, New Brighton. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Glenn S. Sheets; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Kevin Brennan, Woodbridge, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Gayle Sheets, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; three grandchildren, Allison, Emily, and Ryan Sheets, all of Chagrin Falls; a brother, John Dishler, Rochester Township; two sisters, Mary Carr, Pulaski Township, and Sally Marich, Aliquippa, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Sheets, in 1980, and a brother, Harry Dishler. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, where prayers will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church Seventh Avenue Parish with Father Harry F. Parsons officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester. Christian wake prayers will be held Monday at 8:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
Denise "Cookie" Simpson departed this life on Wednesday, March 10, 1999. Born Feb. 6, 1952, she was a former resident of Aliquippa. Friends will be received Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church of Cleveland, 3474 E. 147th St. An additional viewing will be held the same day from 7 to 9 p.m. in the GOODEN & BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 214 Fifth Ave., Aliquippa. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Aliquippa.
George Slipko, 78, of Harmony Township, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, in the Lancia Villa Royale Nursing Home, Steubenville, Ohio. Born Sept. 2, 1920, in Smoke Run, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Helen Slipko, he was a retired employee with the former National Electric and H.K. Porter Company and most recently retired from Valley Industry of Monaca. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Ambridge V.F.W. Fulton C. Smith Post 165. Surviving are his wife, Helen Yaramus Slipko; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Elaine Slipko, Pittsburgh; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jean and Gary Seiber, Harmony Township; two grandsons, Steven Slipko and Jacob Seiber, and a sister, Mary Meshoneyk, Long Island, N.Y. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, John, and Frank Slipko, and three sisters, Ann, Katherine, and Eva. A private family viewing and service was held Saturday morning in the PAUL E. BOHN FUNERAL HOME INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge. Interment followed in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township.
Helen Marie Smith, 81, a resident of Lake Mary, Fla., since 1983 and formerly of Beaver Falls, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in Saginaw, Mich., where she resided since 1998. Born Feb. 10, 1918, in Beaver Falls, a daughter of the late Carl and Regina Anna Lentz Dershimer, she was a former employee of Bell Telephone Company. She she was a former member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, now Divine Mercy Parish, Beaver Falls, where she was an active member and a C.C.D. teacher. Surviving are her husband, James E. Smith, whom she married April 12, 1939; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Ann Smith, Pittsburgh, and James M. and Judith Smith, Bemus Point, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Regina A. and William P. Skvarla, Saginaw, Mich.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a brother, Wilbur Dershimer, and a sister, Elizabeth Cranman, both in Florida. Friends will be received Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the CAMPBELL'S BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 14th Street and Eighth Avenue, where a blessing service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Donald R. Bischof officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Chippewa Township. Anna Mae Herrmann Snowden, 65, of 358 Country Club Dr., Ellwood City, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in her home. Born Jan. 9, 1934, in North Sewickley Township, a daughter of the late Charley W. and Sadie Pflugh Herrman, she was retired from Michael's Discount and the Ames Department store. A graduate of Beaver Falls High School and Garfield Business Institute, she was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, John E. Snowden Jr., whom she married April 13, 1957; her children, Diane Terry, Ellwood City; Ruth Anne Frederick and her husband, Kenneth, Harmony; Karen Hunter and her husband, Paul, Darlington; David Snowden and his wife, Lynn, Ellwood City, and Carol Borgen, Greensboro, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy W. and Janet Herrmann, Stoneboro, Pa., and 14 grandchildren. Friends will be received today and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, Ellwood City. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Concord United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Interment will be in Concord Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the American Cancer Society or the Concord Methodist Church.
Dolores Talvacchia, 71, of Linwood, N.J., passed away Wednesday, March 10, 1999, as a result of innjuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in Ambridge and was a daughter of the late Joseph J. Shapert and Helen M. Kocoski-Shapert. Surviving are her beloved husband, H. Joseph "Tally" Talvacchia; her loving children, Barbara Talvacchia, at home; Elizabeth Godfrey and her husband, Robert, Absecon; Joseph Talvacchia and his wife, Kim, Bargaintown; a brother, Joseph F. Shapert, Economy Township; her former daughter-in-law, Dorothy Talvacchia Bowker, Egg Harbor Township, and six grandchildren, Jessica, Brian, and Amanda Godfrey, and Dustin, Shawn, and Trevor Talvacchia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Shapert; a sister, Helene Shapert, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Shapert. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Joseph, Shore Road, Somers Point, N.J., where friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Anne M. (Bruch) Arnold, 77, of Longmont, Colo., and formerly of Patterson Heights, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in the Peak Nursing Home, Longmont. Born Sept. 15, 1921, in Butternut, Wis., a daughter of the late Max and Lena Baatz Bruch, she had worked at Sewickley Valley Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church; American Legion Post 272, Butternut, Wis.; Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and Little Beaver Historical Society. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse's Corps during World War II in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Karl A. Arnold, in 1996. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Hultman, Louisville, Colo.; a son, David J. Arnold, Rochester; four grandchildren, Sonya and Gretchen Hultman, and Jennifer and Jason Arnold; a brother, Max Bruch, Butternut, Wis., and a sister, Lee Daniels, Whitewater, Wis. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the CAMPBELL'S BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 14th Street and Eighth Avenue. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Beaver Falls, with the Rev. John L. Pingel officiating. Evelyn E. Bohon, 66, of Center Township, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in her home. Born Sept. 25, 1932, in Waynesburg, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Moore Keck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph G. Bohon, in 1987; a brother, Elmer Keck, and a sister, Freda Bonham. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Nancy Bohon, Center Township; a daughter, Terry Ivkovich, Center Township; two grandchildren, Louie and Jason Bohon; a sister, Virginia Fox, Waynesburg; three special nieces, Mary Farrow, Rochester Township; Paulette Hunter, Waynesburg, and Pam Belan, Independence Township, and several other nieces and nephews. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the HUNTSMAN ROCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, 502 Adams St., where services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Watson, pastor of the Emanuel Baptist Church of Monaca, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
