Betty J. (Hayden) Fritz, 79, of Brighton Township, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born March 28, 1919, in Conway, a daughter of the late Jack and Bernice Berry Hayden, she was Presbyterian by faith. She was a retired retail sales manager in women's apparel in the Beaver Valley at Kaufmann's and the Joseph Horne Company. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Fritz, on March 11, 1974, to whom she had been married since 1938, and a sister, Eleanor McCann. Surviving are a son, John Fritz, Ahoskie, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Louis (Sandy) Simon, Center Township; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the ZURIK FUNERAL HOME, Corner of Second and Market Streets, Beaver, where a service will follow at 8 p.m. this evening in the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph A. Hill officiating. Interment will take place in Grandview Cemetery, Big Beaver.
Mary J. Gregorek, 94, of Ambridge, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, in the Sewickley Valley Hospital. Born Sept. 6, 1904, in Ford City, Pa., a daughter of the late Andrew and Katherine Rose Painteric, she was a member of the Good Samaritan Parish St. Veronica Worship Site and was a member of the former C.D.A. Court 777 and the former St. Veronica Women's Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Gregorek, in July 1973, and a daughter, Catherine Walko, on July 28, 1988. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Rhea Gregorek, Butler, Pa.; a grandson, Greg Walko, Ambridge; a granddaughter, Margo Edwards, in Hawaii; a great-grandson, Logan, in Hawaii, and a niece, Ann Painter, Bairdsford, Pa. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the PAUL E. BOHN FUNERAL HOME INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, where a service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Good Samaritan Parish, St. Veronica Worship Site. Faith A. Herman, 65, of Beaver, died Sunday afternoon, March 14, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Beaver Township, following a brief illness. Born April 27, 1933, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Wacker Stickle, she had been a resident of Beaver for the past 36 years. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James A. Jr. and Lisa Herman, and Scott C. Herman; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry L. and Robert Tate, all of West Mayfield; two brothers, Charles Stickle, Philadelphia and Thomas Miller, Longwood, Fla.; three sisters, Dolly Chipley, Longwood, Fla.; JoAnn Wittenburg, in New Jersey, and Margaret Tadeo, Philadelphia, and seven grandchildren, James A. Herman III, Christopher J. Herman, Sarah L. Mason, Jacob R., Jeremy E. and Joshua J. Tate, all of West Mayfield, and Jesse James Herman, Industry. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert J. Ruth V. Kirsop, 81, of New Sewickley Township, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in UPMC-Passavant Hospital, McCandless Township. Born March 29, 1917, in Crafton, Pa., a daughter of Thomas and Mathilda Barbara (Zoeller) Estman, she was a member of the English Lutheran Church, Zelienople. Surviving are her husband, Herbert T. Kirsop, whom she married Dec. 19, 1941; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas C. (Barbara Ruth) Healsey, Enon Valley; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Herbert T. Kirsop Jr., who died Jan. 12, 1998; two sisters, and one brother. Theresa McCloskey, 88, of Industry, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center. Born Aug. 11, 1911, in McKeesport, Pa., a daughter of the late Louis and Ann Sebastian Bartha, she was Presbyterian by faith. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Wayne Chapter 42, Beaver, and had been the past Matron and Worthy Adviser for the Rainbow Girls. Surviving are her beloved husband, James McCloskey, at home; a brother, Louis Bartha, Fairborne, Ohio; a sister, Betty Kuczler, Versailles, Pa., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Ann McCloskey, on June 28, 1978. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the D.L. Florence M. "Dee" Perri, 66, of Beaver, a loving wife and mother, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born April 6, 1932, in Center Township, a daughter of the late Milford Simpson and Florence Figley Simpson Hood, she had been a resident of Beaver for the past 43 years and was formerly of Monaca. She was a retired purchasing agent for Anchor Hocking, Monaca, with 22 years of service, and was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Beaver. Surviving are her husband, Ernest L. Perri Sr.; children and spouses, Michael and Mary Perri, Beaver; Ernest L. Jr. and Joyce Perri, Chippewa Township; Gregory "Joe" Perri, Beaver; Ann and Joseph Naim, Hopewell Township; Joan and Don Whelan, Connoquenessing, and Sue and Tom Weatherly, White Township; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian Thomas, Center Township; Shirley Jenkins Shanks, Glendale, Ariz., and Bertha Vogel, Enon Valley; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Dr. Francis R. and Prudence Perri, Mount Lebanon, and Joseph Richard Perri, Center Township, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maude H. Riley of Crescent Township, died Sunday, March 14, 1999. Born May 13, 1904, in Saginaw, Mich., she was a former employee of Michaels Hobby and Toy Shop for 17 years, and was also employed by the S.S. Kresge Co., retiring in 1967. She was a former member of St. Margaret Mary Church, Moon Township; a member of St. Catherines of Sienna Church, Wireton; the Crescent Township Civic Club, the B.P.O.E. 1090 Ladies Auxiliary, and was past Grand Regent of the Moose Club. She served as a member of the American Women's Volunteer Service Group during World War II at the Air Force Base in Moon Township. She was the wife of the late Thomas M. Riley, who died in 1963. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Thomas W. and John F. Riley, and two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are a daughter, Marion Novak and her husband, Stanley, Glenwillard; a son, William and his wife, Jacqueline Riley, Beaver Falls; a daughter, Patricia R. Johnston, Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Rose Mary Reynolds, Detroit, Mich., and 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the COPELAND MOON TOWNSHIP FUNERAL HOME, 981 Brodhead Road. Michael F. 'Mike' Spann, of Asheboro, N.C., died Monday, March 15, 1999, in Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in the PUGH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, Asheboro, N.C., with Dr. John S. Rogers and the Rev. Mark Hall officiating. A resident of Asheboro since 1970, Mr. Spann was born to Anna Chinchilla Span and Andrew M. Span on Sept. 10, 1910, in Homestead, Pa., and grew up in Ambridge. He graduated from Davis Elkins College with a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts. He did post graduate work at Slippery Rock State Teachers College in Pennsylvania and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served as first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II and as captain in the National Guard. His diverse career included coaching high school football and basketball, teaching in high school and community college and working in Industrial Management for Burlington Industries. His last position was Personnel and Public Relations Director for Balfour Socks in Asheboro. Following his retirement, he continued his interest in athletics, officiating in football and basketball games. He distinguished himself as a football player in high school, college, military service and professional sports as a Detroit Lion. He was very active in Sunday School, Mens' class and choir program of the First Baptist Church as well as the community at large. He was a past member of the Civitan Club and served as its President and was the first Chairman of the Asheboro-Randolph Vocational Advisory Council. He served on the council for 18 years. Mr. Spann is survived by his wife, Frances Bennett Spann of Asheboro; sons, Mike F. Spann Jr., Charlotte, N.C., and Robert B. Spann, Greensboro, N.C.; daughter, Michele S. Stearns, Burlington, N.C.; brother, Joe Spann, Baden; sisters, Veronica Joy, Mars, Pa., and Ann Verosko, Gainesville, Va., and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following the service at the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 133 N. Arthur R. Stewart Sr., 79, of Beaver, died Monday afternoon, March 15, 1999, in the Providence Health Care Center, Beaver Falls, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 7, 1919, in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late John R. and Hazel E. Beam Stewart, he was a resident of Beaver since 1949. He retired in 1984 as Director of Residential Sales for Duquesne Light Company after 42 years of service and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver. A 1938 graduate of Bellaire High School, he served as a Second Lieutenant in the field artillery for four years in Europe during World War II. He served on Beaver Borough Council for 16 years. He was a member of the Ionic Lodge 438 F&AM, Bellaire, Ohio; Legion of Honor; New Castle Consistory; Beaver County Caravan 18, and the Syria Temple, Pittsburgh. He was also a member of Monacatootha Post 580 American Legion, Monaca; B.P.O.E. 283, Rochester, and the Electric League of Beaver Valley. Surviving are his wife, Patricia L. Johnston Stewart; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur R. Jr. and Catherine Stewart, Patterson Township, and two grandchildren, Arthur R. III and Milinda Stewart. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J.T. ANDERSON JR. AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 205 College Ave., Beaver, where a funeral service will be conducted Thursday with the time to be announced in Wednesday's Times. Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery.
