Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com John Swanson, 65, of Economy, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in Allegheny General Hospital, after an extended illness. Born Dec. 19, 1933, in Bethlehem, Pa., a son of the late Anthony and Anna Dryburg Swanson, he was a retired and decorated Air Force veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife, Arliene Lindley Swanson; a son, Richard Swanson, and his wife, Patty, Hollidaysburg, Pa.; a daughter, Tamala Mudrick, and her husband, Joseph, Hopewell; two grandsons, Jason and Ian Swanson; a step-grandson, Josh Mudrick, and a new granddaughter, Kelly Marie Mudrick; a sister-in-law, Carol Lindley, Vanport; two brothers, Ernie Swanson, Arnold, Pa., and Martin Swanson, Farver, Pa., and two sisters, Anna Mae Geracia, Natrona, Pa., and Minnie Vallies, Royal Valley, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony, Lindy, and Leo, and five sisters, Katherine Young, Mabel Doverspike, Ruth Zion, Gloria Shish, and Grace Marcio. Complete arrangements will be announced in Wednesday's Times by the MATTER-TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 1133 Church St., Ambridge.
Josephine P. Zottola, 75, of Brookline, Pa., died Saturday, March 13, 1999, in Montefiore Hospital. Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Struthers, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late John and Caterina Chianello Castronovo. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Erminia Zottola. Surviving are a son, John A. Zottola, and a daughter, Cathy Jo Cutenese, both of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Peter and Samuel Castronovo; a sister, Frances Kelley, and three grandchildren. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FRANK F. DeBOR FUNERAL HOME, 1065 Brookline Blvd., Pittsburgh. A Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, Pittsburgh. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Gertrude Knechtel Ayers, 70, of San Mateo, Fla., died Monday, March 15, 1999, in her home, following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 27, 1928, in Arnsdorf, Germany, a daughter of the late Kurt and Anna Knechtel, she was a resident of Florida since 1982 and formerly resided in Freedom. She was a former employee of the Westinghouse Electric Corp., Vanport, and the G.C. Murphy Stores in Beaver and Rochester. She was a member of St. Felix Roman Catholic Church, Freedom. Surviving are her husband, Clarence Ayers; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Baker, Miami, Fla., and Darlene and Robert Wise, San Mateo, Fla.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Theodore Knechtel, Harlem, Ga.; Erich Knechtel, Baden, and Glenn Knechtel, Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Anna Marie Knechtel, Noble, Okla., and Eileen Milliken, Kennerdell, Pa., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kurt Knechtel, and a nephew, David Milliken. Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of blessing service at 10:45 a.m. in the TODD FUNERAL HOME, 340 Third St., Beaver. The Rev. Monsignor Raymond T. Schultz will officiate. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township.
Helen Bardocz Demarest, 76, of South Beaver Township, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999. Born Aug. 24, 1922, in Beaver Falls, a daughter of the late Louis C. Sr. and Helen Majors Bardocz, she had been co-owner of the Stanley Corset Shop in Beaver Falls. She was a member of the College Hill Presbyterian Church and the Auxiliary to the Medical Center, Beaver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Demarest, in 1987; a brother, Louis G. Bardocz, and a sister, Pearl Kasparek. Surviving are three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and several great-nephews and nieces. Friends will be received Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon in CAMPBELL'S CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME, 2618 Darlington Road, with the Rev. Dean F. Lavender officiating. Private interment
will be in Grandview Cemetery, Big Beaver. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to a charity of the donor's choice.
Marie R. Ebeling, 82, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in the Sunrise Atrium in Boca Raton, Fla. She was the widow of Robert M. Ebeling, formerly of Wheeling, W.Va., and Williamsburg, Va. Surviving are her daughters, Suzanne E. Mowry, Islamorada, Fla. and York Harbor, Maine, and Roberta E. Caironi, Beaver; her son, Robert M. Ebeling, Ph.D., Vicksburg, Miss., and her grandchildren, Hillary Neff, Carrie Neff and Edward W.S. Neff III, of Atlanta, Ga., and Patrick Caironi, Beaver. Interment will be in Williamsburg Memorial Park, Williamsburg, Va. The family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or SS. Peter and Paul Church, in lieu of flowers. The ROBERT J. BABIONE FUNERAL HOME, Boca Raton, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Kimberly Sue Evans, 29, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Beaver Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 1999, after a courageous battle against cancer. Born Nov. 5, 1969, in New Brighton, she graduated from Beaver Falls High School and had an associate degree in Accounting from Erie Business School. She had formerly worked at Ponderosa in Chippewa Township and was currently an assistant manager at the College Hill Sheetz in Beaver Falls. She was a member of Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beaver Falls. Surviving are her parents, Donna Bird Evans and Nelson "Butch" Evans, both of Beaver Falls; her paternal grandmother, Velma Evans, Koppel; three brothers and their families, Ed and Bobbi Jo Evans, Enon Valley, and Jim, Scott and April Evans, Beaver Falls; eight nieces and nephews, Penni, Codi and Jessie Evans, all of Enon Valley, and Zach and Spencer Cartwright, and Chaise, Tanner and Taytum Evans, all of Beaver Falls; aunts and uncles, Bob and Lynn Bird, and Pam and Dani Hollen, all of Beaver Falls; cousins, Amanda and Breanna Hollen, Beaver Falls; Rod and Jodi Bird, Ellwood City, and Tim Bird, New York City, N.Y.; dear friends and their families, Rich, Natalie, Nick and Lena Holewski, DeDe McFadden, Janelle McCarter, Nicki and Rynn Rice, Lisa, Karen, Diane, Gilligan, Kathy, Ann, Paula and Sherry, and many more dear friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Pat and Elmer Bird; paternal grandfather, Ed Evans, and a niece, Skyler Marie Evans. Friends will be received today and Friday from 1 to 9 p.m. in the CAMPBELL'S BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 14th Street and Eighth Avenue. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fourth Avenue and 11th Street, Beaver Falls. Her pastor, the Rev. Theodore R. Schaffer, will officiate. Interment will follow in Beaver Falls Cemetery, Chippewa Township.
Leo Flowers-Baucant, 57, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and formerly of Coraopolis, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, in St. Anthony Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla. Born Aug. 31, 1941, in Sewickley, a son of Hannah M. Shoop Baucaunt, Butler, and the late Leo Flowers, he was a former bartender for LaGondola and was employed in construction while in Florida. A Coraopolis High School graduate, he enjoyed playing football while in high school. He was a member of the S.O.I. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Kevin Lee Flowers, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Shirley A. Buyaki, Butler, and two nieces and one nephew. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 19, 1999, at 7 p.m. in the COPELAND CORAOPOLIS FUNERAL HOME, 867 Fifth Ave. The Rev. David Myers will officiate. Burial will be private.
Diane Fresca, 53, of Hookstown, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in her home. Born Aug. 13, 1945, in Ellwood City, she was a daughter of Mary Fresca, Beaver, and the late Greg Fresca. She was the wonderful mother of eight children, Francis Hineman, in California; Dale, Shawn, Anthony, Richard, and Mary Ann Hineman, all of Hookstown; Kiley Hineman, in Florida, and the late Byron Hineman, who died Aug. 22, 1988. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Sara and Madelyn Hineman, and Kara and Cody Zakovich, and a brother, Greg Fresca, Beaver. A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Hookstown Cemetery. The WAYNE N. TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, is handling arrangements.
Lucy F. Frisch, 79, formerly of Harleysville, Pa., died Sunday, March 14, 1999, in Lansdale, Pa. Born May 14, 1919, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late James and Florence Hauptman Laughlin, she had been a member of the United Methodist Church of Erie and the Garden Club of Erie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Frisch, in August 1997, and a brother, James H. Laughlin. Surviving are two daughters, Laurel Cooper, and her dear friend, Ken Freund, Mendham, N.J., and Mrs. Emmitt (Marjorie) Lippe, Williamson, Mich.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Frisch and Susan Meade, North Oaks, Minn., and George and Donna Jean Frisch, Harleysville; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 5 p.m. in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, Hookstown.
John Phillip (Jack) High, 61, of Beaver, died Wednesday afternoon, March 17, 1999, in his home following an extended illness. Born Sept. 7, 1937, in Windber, Pa., a son of the late Verl and Helen Wirick High, he was a resident of Beaver since 1943. He had been an electrician and officer of I.B.E.W. 712, Vanport, and was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beaver, where he had served on the church council. A 1955 graduate of Beaver High School, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Joan B. Scott High; a son, Mark E. High, Greenfield, Mass.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David McCullough, Beaver, and Kathy and the Rev. Sam Halverson, Lancaster, Ohio; a grandson, Jesse Scott Halverson; a brother, Edwin D. Seese, Windber, Pa.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, LaRue and Jerry Lewis, Beaver, and Patricia and Frank Gebet, Baden, and two nephews, Ronald A. Grimes, Hookstown, and Scott E. Lewis, Delaware, Ohio. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J.T. ANDERSON JR. AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 205 College Ave., Beaver. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1098 Third St., Beaver, with his pastor, the Rev. Donald R. Thomas, officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery. Friends may, if they wish, make memorial contributions to the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1098 Third St., Beaver, Pa. 15009.
