Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com Micheline Karas, formerly of Ambridge, passed away March 14, 1999, in Santa Monica, Calif. She was born April 22, 1948, in Pittsburgh. Surviving are her parents, Michael and Mary Karas; a brother, Michael Karas, and sisters, Mary Ann Karas and Marlene K. Cornman.
Elsie E. Barfknecht Kessler, 81, homemaker and lifelong resident of Beaver Falls, passed away March 17, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born Dec. 29, 1917, in Beaver Falls, a daughter of the late Julius and Amelia Wahl Barfknecht, she was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Beaver Falls all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Kessler Sr.; two sisters, Wanda Mehringer and Margaret Coast; a brother, Adolph Barfknecht, and a nephew, Donald Mehringer. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph A. Jr. and Marguerite Kessler, McMurray, Pa., and Kenneth A. and Jacqueline Kessler, Center Township; a sister, Erma Barfknecht, and her brother-in-law, John Mehringer, both of Beaver Falls, and three granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Christa Amelia Kessler Perez and her husband, John M. Perez, Richmond, Va., and Greta Elena Kessler and Petra Andrea Kessler, both of McMurray. All services will be private. Private interment
will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the church of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by the GABAUER FUNERAL HOME INC. at SYLVANIA HILLS MEMORIAL PARK INC., Daugherty Township.
Lavada "Tiny" M. Lawrence, 79, of Beaver, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born Feb. 1, 1920, in Koppel, a daughter of the late Clifford and Etta McClaine Richner, she was a lifetime resident of the Beaver County area. A homemaker, she was a payroll clerk for Shopper's World in Beaver Falls and a member of the Koppel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Lawrence Jr., on May 10, 1996. Surviving are a son, John "Larry" H. Lawrence III, and his wife, Nanette, Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, April Kaye Weigel, and her husband, Alan, Buffalo, Wyo.; a brother, George C. Richner, Koppel, and five grandchildren, Ryan Lawrence, Windy Lawrence, Dane Carlin, Scott Weigel, and Jade Weigel. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the GABAUER FUNERAL HOME INC. at SYLVANIA HILLS MEMORIAL PARK INC., Daugherty Township, where a service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Edward Schoeneck of the College Hill United Methodist Church officiating. Private interment
will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township. Contributions may be made, if desired, to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
Raymond A. Lyons, 61, formerly of Sewickley, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in the Community Hospital of New Port Richey, Fla. He was a Catholic. He was a member and first vice-president of Harborside Mobile Home Civil Association; past vice-president of their Shuffleboard Club; Bingo caller, and the park representative with the Federation of Mobile Homeowners. He was a retired laboratory inspector with the Armco Steel Corp. and was a security guard at Hacienda Village. He was a graduate of St. Veronica High School in Ambridge. Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Hugh Conley, Sharpsburg, Md.; a daughter, Tina Caram, in Florida; a daughter-in-law, Patricia; brothers, Joe, Sewickley, and John, Baden; a sister, Maryanne, Leetsdale, and three grandchildren, James Graham, in Florida, and Keira and Sara Conley, of Sharpsburg. The MORGAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, New Port Richey, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Charles R. "Pat" Matsook, 83, of Rochester Township, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born May 6, 1915, in Rochester, a son of the late Anthony and Lena Vento Matsook, he was a retired truck driver with Dravo Corp., East Rochester. He was a member of St. Pudentiana Roman Catholic Church, St. Cecilia Parish; a retired member of the Rochester Township No. 1 Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Rochester Township Firemen's Club. He is survived by his wife, Julia A. Crispeno Matsook; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony C. and Mary Ann Matsook, Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth A. "'Betty" and William Broz, Pittsburgh; a grandson, Brian R. Broz, Pittsburgh; three granddaughters, Stacey J. and Lena M. Broz, both of Pittsburgh, and Tracey DiSanzo, Brandon, Fla.; a great-grandson, Bobby DiSanzo, Brandon, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Ciccozzi Climo, Jeanette Viccarri and Minnie Nunzir, and two brothers, Domenic and Marion Matsook. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Pudentiana Roman Catholic Church, North Rochester. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery, Daugherty Township. A Christian wake service will be held Friday at 8 p.m in the funeral home.
Mary Jo McCall, 43, of Ohio Avenue, Midland, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born Oct. 17, 1955, in Rochester, she was a daughter of Elinor Lutton Wilson, of Georgetown, and the late C. Dale Wilson. A graduate of Southside Area High School and Gannon University in Erie, she was employed as a case worker for Beaver County Children and Youth Services. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Midland, where she served as treasurer for many years and was also a sessions member. Instrumental in forming the AIDS Task Force of Beaver County, she was its former chairperson. She had served on the board of directors of the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Design Review Committee for the Midland Development Corporation. She was civic minded on both local and county levels. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Daniel R. McCall; her two loving sons, Brendan and Shane Patrick McCall, at home, and a brother, Jeffry Wilson, Zelienople. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the D.L. WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 848 Midland Ave., Midland. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Midland, officiated by the Rev. Raselyn K. Johnson, pastor, and the Rev. Mary Ruth Smith, her former pastor and dear friend. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township. Mary Jo was a very special, caring and giving person. Even in death as she did in life, she gave of herself so that others might live. It has been said that "Nothing the heart gives away is truly gone ... it is kept forever in the hearts of others." She will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Dr. Francis E. McGuire, 76, of Moon Township, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in his home. Born July 29, 1922, in Economy, a son of the late Leo and Gertrude Joyce McGuire, he was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church since 1962. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from St. Francis College, Loretto, Pa., and was a graduate of St. Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo. He had practiced in Rochester General Hospital, Allegheny General Hospital and Mercy Hospital as a general surgeon until his retirement. He also was the Medical Director for the Aliquippa Works, Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. He was a member of the Beaver County Medical Society. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dr. Jean Anne McGuire, on March 8, 1997; his daughter, Kathleen Anne McGuire; his sister, Elizabeth Luscher, and two brothers, Leo and John McGuire. Surviving are six children, Dr. Maura McGuire, Baltimore, Md.; Julie McGuire, Esq. and Matthew McGuire, Esq., both of Moon Township; Patrick McGuire, Aiken, S.C.; Daniel McGuire, Lancaster, Pa., and Meg McGuire Swain, Orlando, Fla., and five grandchildren, Drew, Erik and Hanna Bergman, John Henry McGuire and Patrick Swain. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the COPELAND MOON TOWNSHIP FUNERAL HOME, 981 Brodhead Road. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, with Father John A. Ayoob officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name, if desired, to St. Margaret Mary Church, One Parrish Place, Moon Township, Pa. 15108.
Nick Milosevich, 88, of East Rochester, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in the Rochester Manor. Born Dec. 3, 1910, in Erie, Pa., a son of the late Mike and Sara Polovina Milosevich, he was a retired employee of Crucible Steel Mill, Colt Industries, Midland, and a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Midland. He was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 85. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spicko Milosevich, in 1976, and one brother. Surviving are a son, Nickolas Milosevich, Eugene Ore.; two daughters, Anne Yanich, Aliquippa, and Alice Mamula, Gary, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Mary Ann Hoffman, East Rochester, and Emily Fabanich, Lorain, Ohio, and five grandchildren. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the HUNTSMAN ROCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, 502 Adams St., where a funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Beaver Cemetery Mausoleum.
Ralph J. Pisani, 84, a lifelong resident of the Koppel area, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Beaver Township. Born Nov. 4, 1914, in Italy, a son of the late Domenic and Josephine Iorfido Pisani, he retired in November 1976 from the Babcock & Wilcox Company after 40 years of service in the hot mill division. He was a member of the Queen of Heaven Roman Catholic Church, Koppel; CCC Camp, and the Holy Name Society. He was the owner and operator of the Domino Bar in Beaver Falls for 18 years. Surviving are his wife, Amelia Petti Pisani, whom he married Aug. 17, 1939; a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph J. Jr. and Diana Pisani, North Sewickley Township; a daughter, Carol Shirilla, Wampum; a brother and sister-in-law, Carlo and Delia Pisani, Koppel; a sister and brother-in-law, Alvida and Joseph Lonnett, Brighton Township; four grandchildren, Donald Jr. and his wife, Laurie Shirilla, Boynton Beach, Fla.; Ronald and his wife, Patti Shirilla, New Castle; Stephen Pisani, Patterson Township, and David Pisani, North Sewickley Township, and two great-grandchildren, Bethany Dawn Shirilla and Nicole Marie Shirilla, both of New Castle. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Shirilla Sr., and a sister, Betty Esoldo. Friends will be received today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the LUTTON KOPPEL FUNERAL HOME, 3500 Third Ave., where prayers will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in the Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Koppel. Father Joseph Lemp, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Agatha Cemetery, North Sewickley Township. A prayer vigil will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
Brian Thompson, 35, of Aliquippa, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in the UPMC-Beaver Valley. Born Dec. 29, 1963, in Aliquippa, a son of Coster Sr. and Louise Thompson, he was a graduate of Aliquippa High School Class of 1981, where he played football and was a football enthusiast. He was a member of the Church in the Round. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Thompson, and a sister, Carla Thompson Hines. In addition to his parents, he is survived by seven children, Takeya Thompson, Boston, Mass.; Kayshauna Thompson, Rochester; Brian Thompson Jr., Boston, Mass.; Brianna Thompson, Boston, Mass., and Brandon Thompson Colianni, Vincent Thompson Colianni, and Anthony Thompson Colianni, all of Aliquippa; his grandmother, Albertha Thompson, Aliquippa; two brothers, Coster "Bimbo" Thompson Jr., Aliquippa, and Melvin Thompson, Rochester, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. in the GOODEN & BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 214 Fifth Ave., Aliquippa. Mr. Thompson will lie in state in the Church in the Round Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Bishop Melvin E. Clark will officiate. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Aliquippa.
