Ida M. "Toots" Brooks, 96, of Economy, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born June 10, 1902, in Ravenna, Ohio, a daughter of the late Richard and Bertha Dillon Finch, she was a retired 62-year employee of the Conway Hotel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Brooks; two brothers, Charles and Donald Finch, and three sisters, Stella Shively, Sylvia Wolf and Almedia Rogers. Surviving are three brothers, Richard Finch, East Rochester; Harold Finch, Detroit, Mich., and Kenneth Finch, East Palestine, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Hilda Keiser, Chippewa Township, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the HUNTSMAN ROCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, 502 Adams St., where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. John Lucaric officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
Paulene Budzak, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in Sewickley Valley Hospital. Born in Coal Ridge, Ohio, a daughter of the late Wasil and Helen Moroz Rupik, she was a member of St. Catherine Church, Wireton, Pa. She is survived by her husband, Tony, Crescent, Pa.; a son, James; a daughter-in-law, Constance Budzak, Gibsonia; three grandchildren, three sisters, Lillian and Dorothy Rupik, Baden, and Ann Knopick, Baden. Nello Thomas Cancelli, 70, of Aliquippa, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in Virginia. Born Jan. 28, 1929, in Ripi, Italy, a son of the late Sebastian and Maria Concetta Fattore Cancelli, he was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, Center Township, and was a retired foreman from the Babcock & Wilcox Co., Beaver Falls. Surviving are his beloved wife, Margaret Pietrcollo Cancelli; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Lynn Morrow, in Florida; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Nola and Lou Pupo, in Georgia; Cindy and Daniel DeSantis, Aliquippa; Terri Shingler, Hopewell Township, and Violet and Mike Trella, in Virginia; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Ted DiCosmo, Center Township, and several nieces and nephews. Wanda D'Ambrosio, 82, of Baden, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 10, 1999, in her home. Born Aug. 9, 1916, in Ambridge, she was a member of the Good Samaritan Parish, St. Stanislaus Worship Site, and was a member of the Baden American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso (Funzie) D'Ambrosio on March 14, 1995, and two brothers, Edward and Zigmond Zajackowski. She is survived by a son, Joseph T. D'Ambrosio, Conway; a daughter, Linda Chmura, Baden; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Reni Peck, Queens, N, Y., and Stella Placer, Hopewell Township, and a brother, Theodore Zajackowksi, Baden. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the PAUL E. Mary Nanette "Nan" Garvin, 89, of King Beaver Apartments, Canal Street, Beaver, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in the Providence Health Care Center, Beaver Falls. Born Dec. 30, 1909, in East Palestine, Ohio, a daughter of the late Orval and Elizabeth Murphy Shaw, she had been a resident of Beaver most of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Garvin, in 1989; a brother, Mark Shaw, and a sister, Juanita Shaw. Surviving are three brothers and a sister-in-law, James and Lillian Shaw, East Canton, Ohio; Orval R. "Pete" Shaw, Rogers, Ohio, and Howard Shaw, East Palestine, Ohio, and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margarete and Joseph Castellana, New Paltz, N.Y., and Mary Lou Sutton, Hendersonville, Tenn. Albert W. Haynie, 79, of 800 S. 15th St., Sebring, Ohio, formerly of Beaver County, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at 10:45 p.m. in the Crandall Medical Center, following an extended illness. Born Feb. 21, 1919, in Nashville, Tenn., a son of the late Pink and Effie (Wallace) Haynie, he was a Protestant by faith, he retired in 1981 from Conrail, having worked for 42 years with the Pennsylvania Railroad and Conrail as an engineer. A 1936 graduate of Freedom High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the infantry in Europe for many campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge and Remagen Bridge. He was a longtime member of IOOF in Freedom and a member of F&AM Lodge 229. Surviving are his wife, Ruth E. (Householder) Haynie; a sister, Helen Edge, Freedom, and a brother, Paul Haynie, Conway. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Sturm, in 1971, and two brothers, Richard Haynie, in 1980, and Raymond Haynie, in 1993. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. There will be no services. Arrangements include cremation. The GEDNETZ-RUZEK FUNERAL HOME, 126 W. Vermont Ave., Sebring, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth "Betty" Hines, 87, of Durham, N.C., formerly of New Brighton, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, in the Brian Center, Durham, N.C. Born Jan. 7, 1912, in New Brighton, a daughter of the late Frederick Alexander and Anna Josephine (Phelan) Steward, she was a retired parochial school teacher and taught at the former St. Theresa's in Koppel and SS. Peter and Paul Grade School in Beaver. Before moving to live with her daughter, she was very active with the Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary, Geriatric Center Volunteer Auxiliary and the YMCA Auxiliary. She was a member of the former St. Joseph Gold and the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Brighton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Hines, in 1970; three brothers, Robert, William and Richard P. Steward, and a sister, Katherine Eaton. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul S. and Ann, Danbury, Conn.; William J. and Paula, Columbia, S.C.; Richard M. and Carolyn, Tallmadge, Ohio, and G. Robert and Linda, Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. and Al Vinson, Durham, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Pardee, Fayetteville, Ark., and Anita Steward, New Brighton; a brother, Donal Steward, Sandia, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Rosemary V. "Dolly" Kelleher, 69, of Locust Road, Economy, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, in her home, following an extended illness. Born Feb. 1, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Sam and Mary Saitta Costa, she was a resident of Economy for the past 45 years, and was a member of St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, Cranberry Township. Surviving are her husband, Edward L. Kelleher; three sons, Edward S. and wife, Karen Kelleher, Rochester; John Kelleher, at home, and Timothy and wife, Tammy Kelleher, Economy; two daughters, Karen Kelleher, Kissimmee, Fla., and Veronica and her husband, Richard Martin, Marion, Ohio; six grandchildren; a brother, Samuel Costa, Aleppo Township, and three sisters, Grace Matvey, in California; Margaret Kelly, Heidelberg, Pa., and Betty Goldbraun, North Side, Pittsburgh. Gretchen Massey, 32, formerly of Industry, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, in Denver, Colo., due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born April 6, 1966, in Rochester, she was the daughter of Paula Perry Massey, Brighton Township, and Paul A. Massey, New Castle. She was a principal consultant with Oracle Corporation, San Francisco, and previously worked with Development Dimensions International, Bridgeville. A former member of St. Blaise Parish, Midland, she was a 1984 graduate of Western Beaver High School and was the first runner-up of the 1984 Beaver County Junior Miss program. She was also a graduate in business of Robert Morris College, Moon Township. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmothers, Ida Perry, Midland, and Dora Eccleston, East Liverpool, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Michelle Massey, Cleveland, Ohio; her fiance, Chris Florman, Denver, Colo., and her niece and nephew, Megan and Michael Massey, Cleveland. Friends will be received today from 2 to 9 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 333 Third St. Beaver. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the St. Blaise Parish, Midland Worship Site, with her pastor, the Rev. Dennis J. Bradley, officiating.
