Quintino Troia, 76, of Monaca, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in the UPMC-Beaver Valley, where he was admitted earlier in the day. Complete arrangements will be announced in Friday's Times by the SIMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca. (Tel) 775-0926.

Gayle E. Umstead, 92, formerly of Brighton Township, died Tuesday afternoon, March 16, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver, following a brief illness. Born Sept. 24, 1906, in Beaver, a son of the late Elmer and Louise Miller Umstead, he had been a resident of Beaver all of his life and retired in 1971 as a construction electrician with Local Union 712 IBEW after 36 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Beaver; past president and 60 year member of Local Union 712 IBEW, and a member of the F&AM 457, Beaver. He is survived by his wife, Esther A. Funk Umstead, whom he married April 6, 1935; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Christine A. Umstead, Chippewa Township; a daughter, Charlotte R. Umstead, Hopewell Township; a brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Pauline Umstead, Beaver; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Anna Louise and Wallace Barr, Patterson Township; Catherine Neno, Columbus, Ohio, and Bessie and Donald Kronk, North Sewickley Township; a sister-in-law, Hilda Wilder, Monaca; two granddaughters, Lori Sylak, Parsonsburg, Md., and Wendy Hawthorne and her husband, Mark, Brighton Township, and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Caleb Hawthorne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Gayle E. Umstead Jr.; an infant sister, Grace, and two sisters, Genevive Kirk and Hazel Allen Cool. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 333 3rd St., Beaver. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Christian Assembly Church, Ohioville, by Pastor William Anzivino. Interment will take place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the Passavant Memorial Homes, P.O. Box 189, Rochester, Pa. 15074.

Edna Olliver Walsen, 92, of St. Andrews Village, Indiana, Pa., and formerly of Sewickley, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in the village. Born March 18, 1906, in Brest, France, a daughter of the late Tanguy and Frances Sologneau Olliver, she would have celebrated her 93rd birthday today. She worked as a domestic for a private family in Sewickley and was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Sewickley. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Walsen. She is survived by Frances Olliver, Clymer, Pa.; Olive Holt, Indiana, Pa.; Ephe Olliver, Elkins, W.Va.; Olive Barogy, McCleary, Wash.; Jeannette Goaziou, Garden City, Calif.; Marie Lann, Ravenna, Ohio, and Suzanne Fricke, San Diego, Calif. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the RICHARD D. COLE FUNERAL HOME, 328 Beaver St., Sewickley. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church. Interment will be in Sewickley Cemetery.

Bernice Ash, 84, of 933 Macklin Rd., New Waterford, Ohio, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at 4:10 p.m. in her residence following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 6, 1914, in Beatrice, W.Va., a daughter of the late Garfield and Laura M. Deem Riggs, she lived in the area most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Chain School Road Church of Christ. She was preceded in death on May 30, 1994, by her husband, Charles Philip Ash, whom she married Feb. 17, 1937. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Beverly) Osberg, New Waterford, and Mrs. Lonzo (Carol) Frank, Rogers, Ohio; two sons, Charles M. Ash, Lisbon, Ohio, and Marvin G. Ash, East Palestine, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Michael (Arlene) Borelli, East Palestine, and Mrs. Evelyn Norton, New Waterford; three brothers, Charles "Bernard" Riggs, Ashland, Ky.; Garfield Riggs Jr., East Palestine, and Leroy "Eugene" Riggs, New Waterford; 15 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. Florence Hogue, Mrs. Dorothy Montgomery, Mrs. Mildred Williams, Mrs. Edith Riggs, and Mrs. Mary Renn, and two brothers, Harry R. Riggs and John Riggs Sr. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the VAN DYKE-SWANEY FUNERAL HOME, 60 West Martin St., East Palestine, where a service will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Mr. Blaine Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, Rogers.

Felicia Jo Smith Blocker, 38, a former resident of Aliquippa, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in Atlanta, Ga. Born Aug. 25, 1961, in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late Melvin Leon Sr. and Essie Mae Thomas Smith. Surviving are a son, Wallace Blocker, in California; a sister, Jada Elizabeth Smith, Aliquippa; five brothers, Melvin Leon Smith Jr. and Marlon Gene Smith, both of Aliquippa; Keith Bradley Smith, Atlanta, Ga.; Byron J. Smith, Tacoma, Wash., and Duardo Beryl Smith, Madison, Wis., and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Raymond Smith and Dylon Renault Smith, and a sister, Rhonda Juanita Smith. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the GOODEN & BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 214 Fifth Ave., Aliquippa, with her pastor, Elder Ezra Lowe, officiating.

George John Bungas, 41, of Moon Township and formerly of Ambridge, died Friday, March 19, 1999, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Born Sept. 7, 1957, in Sewickley, a son of John George and Mary Bellas Bungas, Harmony Township, he was employed as a salesperson at Andretti's Airport Toyota, Moon Township, for the past two years. He was a graduate of the Ambridge High School Class of 1975 and a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Ambridge. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Emmanuel Bungas, Atlanta, Ga., and John Bungas Jr., Ossining, N.Y.; aunts and uncles, Joyce and James Pappas, Baden; Harry and Kay Bellas, Ambridge; Chris and Marro Bungas, Dormont; Irene Katz, Miami, Fla., and Lorraine Fallieras, Ambridge, and cousins, Stella Pappas, Beaver Falls; Tom and Charlotte Pappas, Ambridge; Mike Bellas, Ambridge; Pamela Bellas, Columbus, Ohio; Cathy and Dr. Bill Terasavage, Mt. Lebanon; Cathy Copetas, Squirel Hill, and Joanne and Peter Sheptak, Palm Beach, Fla. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME, 833 Kennedy Dr., Ambridge. Mr. Bungas will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon on Tuesday, March 23, 1999. His pastor, the Rev. Father Elias Katras, will officiate. Interment will take place in Economy Cemetery. A trisagion service will be conducted Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Mildred H. Calder, 105, formerly of New Brighton, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the Steuben County Health Care Facility, Bath, N.Y. Born April 6, 1893, in Beaver, a daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Davis Hamilton, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Brighton, and attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Bath. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Calder. Surviving are a daughter, Wanda Cohn, Bath; three grandsons, Roger Pietsch, Manasquan, N.J.; Thomas Pietsch, Avoca, N.Y., and James Pietsch, Tucson, Ariz., eight great-grandchildren, and two cousins, Mrs. Ruth Mulcahy, Beaver, and Mrs. Joanne Scott, Beaver Falls. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. in the CAMPBELL'S NEW BRIGHTON FUNERAL HOME, 1133 Penn Ave., where a service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard A. Pfeil officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery, Beaver.

Jane Caler, 82, of Edinboro, Pa., formerly of Chippewa Township, died March 17, 1999, in St. Vincent Hospital. Born Dec. 17, 1916, in Beaver Falls, a daughter of the late Stanley and Rose Lendo Gutowski, she was a member of Christ the Divine Teacher Roman Catholic Church; past president of her church's Senior Group, and was a former Girl Scout leader. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Regis Gerard Caler, in 1972; an infant daughter, Maureen Caler; a brother, Val Gutowski, and four sisters, Sophia Young, Wanda Holmes, Theresa Kalcevic and Helen Davis. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gerard T. and Carol Caler, Cambridge Springs, Pa.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and John Cover, Gilbertsville, Pa., and Valerie and Richard Alexander, Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, John Cover Jr., Michelle Wellwood and Matthew Cover, and Kyle and Shanda Caler; two great-granddaughters, Katelynn and Jessica Cover, and several nieces and nephews. Private visitation was held for the family in CAMPBELL'S BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 14th Street and Eighth Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial followed in Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Church, Chippewa Township, which was celebrated by the Rev. Father Harry R. Sangl. Interment followed in St. Mary Cemetery, Chippewa Township. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the Beaver County Humane Society, P.O. Box 63, Monaca, Pa. 15061.

Gladys H. Davidson, 86, a lifelong resident of Coraopolis, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 19, 1999. Born July 23, 1912, in Hebron, W.Va., a daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Haught, she was the director of music and organist for 27 years for the Coraopolis United Methodist Church, where she had been a member. Mrs. Davidson was also a member of the New Era Club and the AARP in Moon Township. She was a retired executive secretary from the Blaw Knox Corp., and was a 1930 graduate of Coraopolis High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Davidson Sr., in 1968, and a sister, Blanche Farmer. She was a good mother and friend. Surviving are a son and his wife, Herbert J. Jr. and Nancy Davidson, Moon Township; a grandson and his wife, Herbert J. III and Lynn Davidson, and a great-grandson, Brooks J. Davidson. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 p.m. in the COPELAND CORAOPOLIS FUNERAL HOME, 867 Fifth Ave. A service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Coraopolis United Methodist Church, 1205 Ridge Ave., Coraopolis, with Dr. Jeff Sterling and the Rev. Robert Wilson officiating. Private burial will be in Coraopolis Cemetery. Memorials, in her name, may be made to the Coraopolis United Methodist Church.

John Dzondza, 87, of Berry Street, Baden, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in his home, following a lengthy illness. Born May 21, 1911, in Newark, N.J., a son of the late Wasil and Anna Haluschak Dzondza, he was a resident of Baden for over 50 years. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church, Ambridge; St. Michaels Lodge 121 RBO, and Baden American Legion Post 641. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a former employee of the A.M. Byers Company, retiring in 1968 after 29 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Knapp Dzondza, and a sister, Katherine Poludnevitsch, St. Petersburg, Fla. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. A Parastas service will be held today at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Following the service, Mr. Dzondza will lie in state in the Holy Ghost Church, Ambridge, where a funeral service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit, will follow in Economy Cemetery.
