Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com Louise D. Guzzetti, 80, of New Galilee, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the Providence Health Care Center, Beaver Falls. Born July 6, 1918, in Possum Hollow, Wampum, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Diodata Fontanella, she was a co-owner of Darlington Distributors. She was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, New Galilee; LMBA Bocci League, and the Daughters of St. Ann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Guzzetti, in April 1986, and a daughter, Judy A. Fusetti, in July 1986. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Cortelezzi, New Galilee, and Carmella Pieri, Wampum; a son-in-law, Bill Fusetti and his wife, Donna, Chippewa Township; four grandchildren, Susan and her husband, Dan Taptich; Gregory and his wife, Erin Fusetti, and Brian and Mark Fusetti, and two great-grandchildren, Anna Victoria Taptich and Dominic William Fusetti. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and John Fontanella. Friends will be received today from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LUTTON CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME, 117 Blackhawk Road, where prayers will be held Monday at 9:20 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church, New Galilee. Father James Krah, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Chippewa Township. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the McGuire Memorial Home, 2119 Mercer Road, New Brighton, Pa. 15066, or Cystic Fibrosis, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, Md. 20814.
George Elwood Halstead, 90, of Hanover Township, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center, following a brief illness. Born March 10, 1909, in Hancock County, a son of the late Lawrence and Agnes Haught Halstead, he was a retired employee of Globe Refactories, Newell, W.Va., and a member of the Community Bible Church. Surviving are six sons and four daughters-in-law, Ronald E. and Kris Halstead, Hookstown; James T. and Janet Halstead, Newell; T. Daniel Halstead, Hookstown; Samuel R. and Ellen Halstead, Hanover Township; Bruce A. Halstead, Hookstown; Lawrence Halstead, in Florida, and Betty Halstead, Hookstown; four daughters, Mrs. Russell (Lucille) Standlee, St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. James (Sue) Standlee, Neosho, Mo.; Mrs. Wayne (Ruth) Stewart, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Fay Brush, Port Salerno, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph W. Halstead, Hookstown, and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Lindner, Fairmont, W.Va. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Halstead, and a brother, James Turner Halstead. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, Hookstown. A service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Community Bible Church with Pastor Robert Kern officiating. Interment will be in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Hookstown.
Lewis C. "Bud" Hartz, 90, of the Passavant Retirement Center, Zelienople, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the center. Born Dec. 8, 1908, in Neville Township, Pa., a son of the late Henry L. Sr. and Sadie (Baum) Hartz, he was born and raised on Neville Island and lived there for 36 years, moved to Bon Meade in Moon Township and lived there for 20 years, and later lived in Ambridge at Zehnder Mobile Home Park. He retired from Dravo Corporation after 45 years as an electrician foreman. He was a member of the Dravo Management Club; Dravo Seniors Club, and the Butler County C.B. Club. He was also a certified locksmith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane "Peg" (Wiser) Hartz; three sisters, Hazel MacDowell, Mabel Clingman, and Pearl Fogg, and a brother, Frank Hartz. Surviving are a son, Lewis C. Hartz Jr., and his wife, Marsha (Harbaugh), Hanover, Pa.; a sister, Ruth Hartz, Neville Township; two brothers, Vistor Hartz, Moon Township, and Henry Hartz, Neville Township; two grandsons, Jeffrey and Gregory Hartz, and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the COPELAND CORAOPOLIS FUNERAL HOME, 867 Fifth Ave., where a service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Wilfred Geotz officiating. Contributions may be made, if desired, in his name to the charity of your choice.
John E. Hopkins, 77, formerly of Ambridge, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center, Beaver. Born Aug. 31, 1921, in Ambridge, a son of the late Thomas and Kathryn Cross Hopkins, he was a member of the Ambridge United Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two brothers, Herbert Hopkins, Dunellon, Fla., and David Hopkins, Cape Cod, Mass., and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the MATTER-TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 1133 Church St., Ambridge.
Kristen Michelle Lindsey, 13, of Economy Borough, died Thursday morning, March 18, 1999, in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Born June 3, 1985, in Sewickley, a daughter of Willie and Bernice Horton Lindsey, she was an 8th grade student at the Ambridge Jr. High School, Economy Borough, where she played soccer for the Jr. High team, and was a member of the Jr. High Band. She played softball with the Economy Youth Association, and was a member of the Ebenezer AME Church of Aliquippa. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Willie C. Lindsey and Christopher Lindsey, both at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Shelita and Tony Nesmith, Boston, Mass.; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Willie Mae Horton, Aliquippa; two nephews, Desmond and Denzel, and a niece, Antonia, all of Boston, Mass.; two special cousins, Tania Carter and B.J. Carter, both of Ambridge, and many aunts and uncles. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the PAUL E. BOHN FUNERAL HOME INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge. Kristen will lie in state on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in the Ebenezer AME Church of Aliquippa. The Rev. Phillip Morris, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Aliquippa.
William T. Martin, 78, of Patterson Township, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Erie, Pa. Born Feb. 17, 1921, in Pontiac, Mich., a son of the late Kenneth P. and Louise Deens Martin, he was an accountant and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are a stepniece, Donna R. Marshall, and a stepnephew, Michael Russ, both of Moon Township; a great-nephew, Travis Marshall, Dallas, Texas, and two nieces, Lynne Ann Chadonet and Terri Byers, both in Michigan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth T. Martin. A private service was held for the family and was officiated by the Rev. David Byers, pastor of the Vanport United Presbyterian Church. Interment followed in Beaver Cemetery, Beaver. Arrangements were handled by the CAMPBELL'S BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 14th Street and Eighth Avenue.
Albert W. McElhaney, 72, of Butler, died at 4:48 a.m. Friday, March 19, 1999, in St. Francis Central Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 1, 1926, in McKees Rocks, a son of the late Albert William McElhaney Sr. and Sarah (Kelley) McElhaney, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He retired from the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio, and had also worked for 15 years with Fisher Control in Coraopolis and the Betchel Corp. in San Francisco. Surviving are his wife, Virginia C. Young Hilderbrand McElhaney, whom he married Aug. 24, 1974; five daughters, Mrs. Rick (Lynn) Ruttinger, Moon Township; Mrs. Jack (Connie) Brutt, Hopewell Township; Mrs. Al (Diane) Farago and Mrs. John (Lori Ann) D'Angelo, both of Moon Township, and Mrs. Herbert (Kimberly) Scribner, Butler; a son, Albert "Skip" McElhaney, Hopewell Township; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Isabelle) Cassidy, Louisville, Ky., and a brother, James McElhaney, Lakeland, Fla. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Luella Mae McElhaney, and a sister. Friends will be received today from noon to 3 and 7 p.m. until time of services at 9:15 p.m. in the YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 West Jefferson St., Butler. Burial will be private.
Betty J. (McKay) Miller, 74, of Monaca, entered in heaven on Friday evening, March 19, 1999, following a short illness. Born July 16, 1924, in Monaca, a daughter of the late John Q. and Mary (Crowe) McKay, she was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca, where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Sokol Lodge 124, Monaca, and the Monaca Plus 60 Club. She had been employed for a number of years as a clerk with the former NuWay Cleaners in Monaca. She especially enjoyed being in the company of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert (Dude) Miller, who died Sept. 6, 1987. The last of her immediate family, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, John, Frank, William, George, and Robert McKay, and two sisters, Lucille Miller and Alice Nix. Surviving are eight nephews and their spouses, Charles McKay, in Florida; Don and Catherine McKay, Monaca; Jack and Shirley McKay, Center Township; Buzz and Dee McKay, Monaca; John and Vickie McKay, Monaca; Bob and Nanette McKay, Center Township; Blake and Nan McKay, Aliquippa, and Roger and Sally McKay, Monaca; four nieces and their spouses, Debbie and Ray Doyle, Center Township; Bill and Ruth Huson, Johnstown, Pa.; Sally and Dick Schweinsberg, New Brighton, and Frankie and Melvin Hogue, New Brighton, and three special friends, Betty Mayfield, Monaca, Shirley Fadich, Rochester, and Isabelle Bowser, Monaca. Friends will be received today from 2 to 9 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where prayers will be recited Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Monaca. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made, if desired to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1499 Pennsylvania Ave., Monaca 15061.
Olga H. Nanasi, 68, of Aliquippa, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 18, 1999, in the UPMC-Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born April 12, 1930, in Aliquippa, a daughter of the late John and Suzanna Butala Harris, she was a member of St. Titus Roman Catholic Church, Aliquippa, and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was a former employee of the Joseph Horne Co. at the Beaver Valley Mall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Nanasi, on Jan. 27, 1998. Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Sue Nanasi, Lewistown, Pa.; Edward Nanasi, Aliquippa, and David and Cindy Nanasi, Owings Mills, Md.; two loving grandchildren, Matthew and Caitlyn Nanasi, and a brother, John P. Harris, Aliquippa. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the MASTRO-FRANCESCO FUNERAL HOME, 21st and McMinn Streets, Aliquippa, where a service will be conducted Monday at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Titus Catholic Church, Aliquippa. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum, Hopewell Township. Members of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers will recite a rosary today at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
William Paul Odum, 70, of 1311 Fifth Ave., Beaver Falls, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in his home. Born Aug. 25, 1928, in Sylacauga, Ala., a son of the late James and Annie Arbson Odum, he retired from J&L Steel, Aliquippa, in 1984. He was a resident of the area for 30 years after moving from Alabama and was a member of the St. Thomas Methodist Church, Alabama. Surviving are a son, Woody Coleman, Beaver Falls; a daughter, Shirley Leonard, Sylacauga; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Miller Rolland, Cleveland, Ohio; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Luther Frank and Josephine Odum, New Brighton; Louise Odum, Gadsden, Ala., and Mattie Jewel Odum, Sylacauga; his devoted friend, Lorrine Coleman, Beaver Falls; three stepdaughters, Kimberly Alexander and Tina Suggs, both of Beaver Falls, and Sarah Doby, Aliquippa, and seven grandchildren, Tawnia Alexander, in Germany; Jamica Alexander, Glenn Haskins, Linnea Haskins, and Jasmine Haskins, all of Aliquippa, and Chris Hodd Ferguson and Jessica Alexander, both of Beaver Falls. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Florence and Ozzie Cook, and three brothers, Eugene Odum, Clarence Edward Odum, and James Odum Jr. Friends will be received Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the LEAVELL FUNERAL HOME, 721 Seventh St., Beaver Falls, where a service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Sylacauga.
