Born Oct. 2, 1904, in Richmond, Va., a daughter of the late James Madison and Lena McCreary Walser, she was a former member of the Ebenezer AME Church and the Zion AME Church, both of Aliquippa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Payne, in 1951; a daughter, Lena Brooks, in 1945; a brother, and three sisters. Surviving are a daughter, Josephine Taylor, Bridgewater; two grandsons, Kenneth Brooks, Ambridge, and Allen Brooks, Alamo, Ga.; three great-granddaughters, Lena Brooks and Syvia Brooks, both of Aliquippa, and Nichelle Brooks; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline McCoy, Brighton Township, and Edna Elmore, Ambridge; a niece whom she helped raise, Jada Elmore, Aliquippa, and a host of other nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. in the GABAUER FUNERAL HOME INC. at SYLVANIA HILLS MEMORIAL PARK INC., Daugherty Township. Elder Richard E. Kimbrough will officiate. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township.
Alan L. Richard, 75, a lifelong resident of Beaver Falls, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in his residence. Born Jan. 13, 1924, in Beaver Falls, a son of the late John A. and Anna Stirling Richard, he was a graduate of Geneva College. He was an industrial engineer with the Crucible Steel Co., Midland, retiring after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Calvary United Presbyterian Church, Beaver Falls, and the Beaver Falls American Legion. An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded five Bronze Stars and was a member of the Normandy Invasion and the 203rd Field Artillery Battalion. Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Srmack Richard; three sons and a daughter-in-law, David Richard, Harrisburg, Pa.; Major William and Joy Richard, Alexandria, Va., and Robert Richard, Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Gary Brosek, Finleyville, Pa.; two sisters, Marion Todd, Tucson, Ariz., and Dorothy Brooks, Chippewa Township, and four grandchildren, Shannon Brosek, Steven Brosek, John Richard and Bridget Richard. Friends will be received Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. in the LUTTON BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 1117 Fifth Ave. The Rev. Kenneth Chorle, of the Calvary United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Private interment

Virginia W. Rogers, 92, of the Fox Nursing Home, Chester, W.Va., died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in East Liverpool City Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1906, in Eldersville, Pa., a daughter of the late John Freeman and Hallie Cox Walker, she attended the Shippingport Methodist Church. A graduate of New Cumberland High School and West Liberty State Teachers College, she was a retired school teacher having taught in South Side Elementary School and earlier in West Virginia. She was a life member of the Shippingport Grange and the Pennsylvania State Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Rogers, and two brothers. Surviving are a nephew, Dick Rodgers, New Cumberland, W.Va. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Locust Hill Cemetery. The ARNER FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., 607 Carolina Ave., Chester, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.
Eunice "Lou" Schlosser, 94, formerly of Beaver Falls, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center. Born June 30, 1904, in Wurtemburg, Pa., a daughter of the late H.D. and M.T. Wimer, she was an assembler for the McDonnell Douglas Corporation and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Cambria, Calif. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Schlosser, in 1973, and two sisters and a brother. Surviving are a stepson, Donald E. Schlosser, Beaver Falls; a sister, Mae Cook, Ellwood City; two step-granddaughters; six great-step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Interment was in Cambria Cemetery, Cambria. The CAMPBELL'S BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 14th Street and Eighth Avenue, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the charity of your choice.
Ida May Sheets, 89, of South Beaver Township, formerly of Conway, and a resident of Leetsdale for 51 years, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Nursing Center, following an extended illness. Born June 16, 1909, in Ambridge, a daughter of the late John and Sarah Marie Wright Sala, she was a member of the St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church of Leetsdale since 1942. She was employed by The Fabric Center in Sewickley, and retired from the Singer Sewing Machine Co. at the Beaver Valley Mall in Monaca, in 1974. She was a charter member of the Conway Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick William Sheets, on Feb. 20, 1957, and whom she married June 22, 1928; a daughter, Shirley Farland, and a brother, Carl Sala. She is survived by a daughter and two sons-in-law, Carole and Kenneth R. McGuckin, Daugherty Township, and Donald Farland, Conway; five grandchildren and their spouses, Alan and Sheila McGuckin, Tulsa, Okla.; Debra and John Corsetti, New Brighton; Donald and Joyce Farland Jr., in California; Diane and Randy Middlebrough, Freedom, and Dale and Monica Farland, New Brighton; nine great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Irvin (Buss) and Ann Sala, Hopewell Township, and a sister-in-law, Ella Sala, Conway, and many other dear relatives and special friends. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where a service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, The Rev. Thomas E. Moog officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery, Marshall Township.
Quintino Troia, of Monaca, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in UPMC-Beaver Valley, Aliquippa, where he was admitted earlier in the day. He was a hard-working and loving husband and father who would have observed his 77th birthday in two weeks. Born March 30, 1922, in Bagnaturo, Provincia D'Aquila, Italy, he was a son of the late Vincenzo and Maria (DiVincentis) Troia. As a young man, he served in the Italian Army during World War II. A resident of Monaca since 1948, he worked as a trackman for the A&S Railroad in Aliquippa from where he retired following 38 years of service, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Terzina DiPillo Troia, with whom he would have celebrated their 45th anniversary this Saturday; a son, Dr. Vincent Troia, Monaca; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra Troia, Pittsburgh, and Linda and her husband, Perry Rossi, Moon Township; a beloved granddaughter, Selena Rossi; three brothers, Vincenzo, Pierino and Sestilio Troia, all of Monaca, and a sister, Assunta Rattazzi, in Italy. A recitation of prayers was held Saturday in the SIMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Entombment followed in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum. Paul Vavro, 83, of Patterson Township, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in the Franciscan Manor. Born Feb. 1, 1916, in Beaver Falls, a son of the late Philip and Emillie (Puta) Vavro, he was retired as a supervisor from Babcock and Wilcox, Koppel Division. He was a member of Divine Mercy St. Mary Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the 95th C-Bee's. He was also an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor T. (Bonanni) Vavro, in 1991. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Gerald Goehring, Patterson Township; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul K. and Pamela Vavro, Beaver Falls; a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Donald Lowry, West Chester, Pa.; two grandsons, Patrick and Ethan Lowry, and two sisters, Kate Miller, White Township, and Emillie Hofelt, Canton, Ohio. Claudette L. Bell, 76, of Sun City Center, Fla., died March 9, 1999, in Integrated Health Services after an extended illness. Born in Three Rivers, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Henri and Louise LaPerriere, she was a 1941 graduate of Beaver High School. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Beaver, prior to moving to Florida in 1981. Surviving are her beloved husband, Russell; two sons and daughters-in-law, William II and Darlene Bell, Valrico, Fla., and Richard and Kathy Bell, Austintown, Ohio; a sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Robert Bell, Beaver; a brother and sister-in-law, Jacques and Dorothy LaPerriere, also of Sun City Center, Fla.; four grandchildren, William R. III, Melissa, Stephen and Juliette; four great-grandchildren, William R. IV, Aaron, Adam and Elizabeth, and numerous nieces and nephews. S. Frances Blair, 91, of West Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Beaver and Brighton Township, died Saturday morning, March 20, 1999, in the West Melbourne Health Care Center. Born April 13, 1907, in Beaver Falls, a daughter of the late Shelton R. and Anna M. Bebout Leiper, she was a former member of the Park Presbyterian Church, Beaver. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orin L. Blair Sr.; two brothers, William and Howard Leiper, and four sisters, Pearle J. Hammerle, Margaret Grimm, Viola Scheel and Jeannette Plowmaker Weiler. Surviving are two sons, Orin L. Blair, Indialantic, Fla., and Kenneth A. Blair, River Rouge, Ore.; a daughter, Phyllis Arlene Lutton, Slidell, La., and 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
