Stella LaVerne DeCanio, 56, of 7700 Depot St., Rogers, Ohio, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at 1:40 p.m. in East Liverpool City Hospital of an apparent heart attack. Born Nov. 20, 1942, in Rochester, a daughter of the late Thomas W. and Lovie Starr McCullough, she had lived in Rogers for 21 years after coming from Ambridge. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Columbiana. Surviving are her husband, George A. DeCanio Sr., whom she married Feb. 27, 1968; four daughters, Mrs. Alan (Catherine) Boso, Hookstown; Ms. Cheryl Hellandbrand, Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. Riley (Mary) Massey, East Liverpool, Ohio, and Mrs. Brian (Helen) Lalley, Vilseck, Germany; a daughter-in-law and son, Rebecca and George A. DeCanio Jr., Rogers; two sisters, Mrs. James (Marjorie) Whited, Wishram, Wash., and Mrs. Donald (Lovie Isabel) French, Sewickley; three brothers, Leo E. McCullough, Salt Lake City, Utah; John F. McCullough, New Sewickley, and Samuel McCullough, Wishram, Wash., and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Detmar McCullough. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the VAN DYKE-SWANEY FUNERAL HOME, 60 W. Martin St., East Palestine, Ohio, where a service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Pastor Allan Aubrey, of the Christian Children's Home of Ohio, Wooster, will officiate. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, Rogers.
Margaret Haney, 80, of Rochester, died Sunday, March 28, 1999. Born April 27, 1918, in Crescent, Pa., she was a daughter of the late George and Susan Finick Havrilak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth W. Haney; a son, Robert G. Haney; three brothers, John, Joseph and Edward, and three sisters, Anna Dillow, Mary Havrilak and Betty Lawrence. Surviving are a grandson and his wife, Robert and Colleen Haney, Rochester Township; two great-grandchildren, Andre and Kayla; a sister, Agnes Cuifo, Beaver, and a daughter-in-law, Betty Haney, Rochester. A funeral service will be conducted today at 11 a.m. in the HUNTSMAN ROCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, 502 Adams St., with the Rev. Greg Leith, pastor of the Rochester First Wesleyan Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
Alice K. (Vernon) O'Donnell, 94, died Sunday, March 28, 1999. Wife of the late Hugh Joseph O'Donnell, she was the beloved mother of Joyce and Lawrence O'Donnell, Judith Buttermore and the late Hugh Terrence O'Donnell. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A blessing service will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. in the R.V. ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 315 East 10th Ave., Homestead, Pa. A committal service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Beaver Cemetery Chapel.
Ann Sala, 85, of Hopewell Township, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in Sewickley Valley Hospital following a brief illness. Born June 12, 1913, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Frank and Rose Kozak Freisel, she had resided in Hopewell Township for the past 59 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Hopewell Township. Surviving are her husband, Irvin Sala; two daughters, Barbara and her husband, Leon, Bakauskas, Chester, Va., and Maxine Sala, Cambridge, Ohio; four grandchildren, Brian J. Schultheis, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Korea; Eric A. Schultheis and his wife, Maureen, Centreville, Va.; Luann Chmelovski and her husband, Michael, Napierville, Ill., and Alicia M. Pizer and her husband, David, Zelienople; four great-grandchildren, Krystan and Rachel Chmelovski, and Erica and Aaron Schultheis, and three sisters, Rose Berdych, Helen DeLorenzo, and Clara Freisel, all of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Roselyn Mahnick; a brother, Frank J. Freisel, and two sisters, Emma Curl and Mary Rowleski. Ferdinand J. Salvati, 74, of Baden, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 1, 1924, in Ambridge, a son of the late Julius and Mary Testa Salvati, he was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Baden. He retired from the Armco Steel Corp., Ambridge, after 38 years of service, and was a shoe repairman. He was a former member of the Baden American Legion and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Aldine C. Roberts Salvati; a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Cheryl Salvati, Rochester; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary A. and George Campbell, Monaca; five grandchildren, Jessica, Shawn, Danielle, Michael and Tracy; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Hilda Barley, Lancaster, Pa.; Theresa and Vince Salvati, Stratford, Conn.; Amelia and John Kranak, Burgettstown; Dora Schwartz, Baden, and Gilda and John Popik, Stratford, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Louise Salvati, Baden, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Geno Salvati. Chester J. Stroemple, 86, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in the Providence Health Care Center, Beaver Falls. Born Sept. 1, 1912, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Albert and Julia Reitz Stroemple, he was a retired chemical engineer from the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., Pittsburgh. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law and three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Willard Thomas, Huntingdon Valley, Pa.; Claire and John Mitchell, Port Ludlow, Wash.; Richard B. and Antoinette Stroemple, Beaver Falls, and Kathleen and Richard Glenn, Birmingham, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Smith, on June 21, 1987; a daughter, Christine; a granddaughter, Elizabeth; a sister, Amelia, and a brother, Albert E. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 1, 1999, at 4 p.m. in the New Church, LeRoi Road, Pittsburgh. The Rev. Nathan Gadlish will officiate. William T. Ada B. Wyncoop, 90, of Beaver, died Sunday night, March 28, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 25, 1908, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late William and Blanche Doutt Boyd, she was a resident of Beaver for the past 50 years. She was a member of the Beaver United Methodist Church and was active in the Women's Society of the church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Harry K. Wyncoop; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Jack Bechdel, Beaver; a brother, Harold Boyd, Erie, Pa.; a sister, Jane Drake, Pittsburgh, and three grandsons, Kevin, Scott and Jeffrey Bechdel, all of Beaver. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 333 Third St., Beaver. A service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Beaver United Methodist Church, by her pastor, the Rev. Dennis M. Henley. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum. Michael Zvalchak, 71, of Hopewell Township, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born April 13, 1927, in Carnegie, Pa., a son of the late Steven and Mary Fedorchak, he was a resident of Hopewell Township for over 40 years. He was a retired foreman from the Tin Mill at the Aliquippa Works, Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Robert W. Young Post, both of Hopewell Township. Michael was a master craftsman in the art of stained glass for over 20 years. He was known in the Beaver County area for his quality workmanship and generosity of knowledge. Mike touched everyone that he met with his honesty and strength of character. Hard work and the love of family and friends were the cornerstones that Mike lived by. Being the loving and dutiful father, he was sure to pass these values on to his children and their children. He will be missed by all that knew him or crossed his path through his beautiful stained glass works. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Catherine Ivankovich Zvalchak; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Hal Szklinski, Moon Township, and Michele and Brian Boyce, Durham, N.C.; two grandchildren, Gregory and Joshua Szklinski, Moon Township; a brother, Alex Fedorchak, Aliquippa, and two sisters, Stella Harris, Greentree, Pa., and Kathryn Dobos, Levittown, Pa. Sylvia Clark, 85, of New Sewickley Township, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001.
Born May 15, 1915, in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Nellie Hodoraska Guzik.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Clark; a sister, Dorothy Kretchmar, and two brothers, Robert Garrett and Matthew Guzik.
Surviving are two sisters, Helen M. Cukale, Rochester, and Stella B. Fronko, Brighton Township; a sister-in-law, Louise Garrett, and several nieces and nephews.
All services were private.
