Mary Chekanowsky, 73, of Conway Wallrose Road, Economy, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. Born June 30, 1925, in Butler, a daughter of the late John and Catherine Adamcko Maker, she was a resident of Economy for the past 45 years. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ambridge, and the Economy Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Chekanowsky, in 1980, and four brothers, Peter, Frank, Mike and Andrew Maker. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, William and June Chekanowsky, Franklin, Pa., and Joseph Chekanowsky, Swissvale; a daughter, Donna Strauss, Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Brian and Mark Strauss, both of Economy, and Nicole, Lisa and Kelly Chekanowsky, all of Franklin; a brother, John Makar, Conway; a sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Reed Walters, Center Township, and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where a service will be conducted Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. Her pastor, Father Michael Polosky, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery, Economy. Members of the Economy Senior Citizens will conduct a prayer service today at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Parastas service will be conducted today at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Chester W. Cox, 80, of South Beaver Township, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999. Born Feb. 28, 1918, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of the late Leroy and Carrie Marie Cox. He retired after 32 years of service from the Babcock & Wilcox Co., where he had been a turn foreman in the yard shipping department, and had also worked at the Blackhawk Golf Course for 10 years. He was a member of the Brush Run United Methodist Church and a former member of the South Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian "Pat" Cox; an infant daughter, Beverly Cox, and a brother, William Cox. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Henderson and Wilbur Morgan, South Beaver Township, and Carrol Morgan, Darlington; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Lou Cox, South Beaver Township; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leroy Cox, West Mayfield; Clifford Cox, in Indiana, and Earl "Corky" Cox, in California, and a sister, Mrs. Lester (Betty) Bevington, New Waterford, Ohio. Friends will be received today from 1 to 9 p.m. in the CAMPBELL'S CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME, 2618 Darlington Road, where a service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m., with his pastor, the Rev. Susan McKinnis, officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Big Beaver.

Catherine Eiselt, 78, of Monaca, died Friday evening, Feb. 12, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver, as a result of complications from Crohn's Disease. Born May 11, 1920, in East Liverpool, Ohio, a son of the late Fred and Mary Densick Johnson, she had been a resident of Monaca for the past 16 years. A former member of the Center Township Democratic Club, she enjoyed cooking, growing flowers, baby-sitting and bus tours. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Eiselt, on Jan. 14, 1979; an infant brother, Joseph; an infant sister, Yvonne; a sister, Pearl Winkle; a niece, Margaret Proya, and four nephews, Jospeh Farinacci, and Paul, Tom and Jerry Lee Winkle. She is survived by a stepson and his wife, Raymond Bruce and Bridget Eiselt, Aliquippa; a brother, George Johnson, Potter Township; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Angelo Farinacci, Monaca, and Charlotte and Sam McCandless, Potter Township; five step-grandchildren, four step great-grandsons; a step great-granddaughter, and several devoted nieces and nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Ethel Labasik, Monaca. Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 333 Third St., Beaver, where services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. by Pastor Myron A. Schevey of the Van Kirk Lutheran Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township.

Dorothy P. Gardner, 74, of New Brighton, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Complete arrangements will be announced in Monday's Times by the GABAUER FUNERAL HOME INC. at SYLVANIA HILLS MEMORIAL PARK INC., Daugherty Township.

Dorothy "Dot" Gossard, 64, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in the Med Central Hospital, Mansfield. Born June 23, 1934, in Rochester, a daughter of Annabelle Flickner Gossard, Monaca, and the late Howard B. Gossard, she was a retired employee with Hartman Electric, Mansfield. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Carol Gossard, Ingram, Pa., and James and Joellen Gossard, Koppel; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Helen and Robert McNear, Monaca; Marge Zediker, and Lucille and Al Sauer, all of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Rose Navatril, Rochester, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard A. Gossard, and a nephew, Joseph Gossard. Friends wil be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the HUNTSMAN ROCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, 502 Adams St., where a service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Greg Leeth, pastor of the Rochester First Wesleyan Church. Private interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

William C.E. Graeser Jr., 83, of Monaca, passed away Saturday afternoon, Feb. 13, 1999. Born Sept. 10, 1915, in Monessen, Pa., a son of the late William C.E. Sr. and Mary Margaret (Hare) Graeser, he was a lifelong resident of Monaca. Bill was a man who loved life and who actively participated in the community. He was a member of the Beaver County Retired Men's Club; the Monaca United Methodist Church; the Monaca-Center Lodge 791 F&AM; the Beaver Valley Council 84 of Beaver Falls; the Royal Arch Chapter 167 of Rochester; the Beaver Valley Commandery (Knights Templar) 84 of Beaver Falls; Anciet Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle; the Syria Shrine AAONMS of Pittsburgh; the Beaver County Caravan 18; a member of the Monaca VFD 1, the Beaver County Firemen's Relief Association, Western Pennsylvania Firemen Association, the Pennsylvania Firemen's Association, a life member of the Monaca American Legion Post 580, the Monaca Cornet Bandroom, Monaca Saxon Club, the Rochester B.P.O. Elks 283, the Beaver Valley Sportsman Club of Monaca, and the former Monaca Moose Lodge. He retired in 1976 from the former J&L Steel Corp., Aliquippa Works, as an electricial bench hand in the maintenance department following 40 years of employment, and was the proprietor of Bill's Radiator Shop, Monaca. He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, William C. III and Barbara Graeser, Jefferson Hills; David Earl and Joan Graeser, Center Township; Patrick Bruce and Carol Graeser, Chippewa Township, and Commander Kenneth Scott and Barbara Graeser, serving in the U.S. Navy, stationed in California, Md.; eight grandchildren, Brian William Graeser, Brent Graeser, Chad Graeser, Jan Thomas Graeser, Kim Graeser, Natalie Joy Graeser, Leslie Ann Graeser and Laura Bess Graeser; two brothers, Clarence (Red) Graeser and Philip Graeser, both of Monaca, and a sister, Mary Louise Sherry, Beaver; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Graeser. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with his pastor, the Reverend George S. Dran officiating. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills.

Edna Mae Hemer, 74, of Monaca, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 10, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born May 9, 1924, in Cranberry Township (Vernago County), Pa., a daughter of the late Ramon and Edna M. (LaLonde) Hansen, she resided in the Monaca area for the majority of her adult life. The church was a cornerstone of Edna's life, and she unselfishly served for almost half a century as organist at the Monaca United Methodist Church where she was a member. Music was also an important part of Edna's life, and for over 45 years she taught piano lessons in her Monaca home and later in her Center Township home. She was a member of the U.M.W. (United Methodist Women); the Monaca V.F.W. Post auxiliary, and a former member of the Senior Women's Club of Beaver County. She was also an avid seamstress and quilter. She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Hemer, on June 8, 1992, with whom she was united in marriage in 1942; a son, Kenneth Hemer, in 1978; a granddaughter, Amy Hemer; a sister, Carrie Dengler; two sisters-in-law, Patricia McDanel and Margaret Louise Snyder, and a brother-in-law, Jack Hemer. She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, James and Jan Hemer, Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betsy Cole, Monaca, and Judy and Thomas Yester, Beaver Falls; 14 grandchildren, Greg, Ashley, Jessica and Sarah Hemer; Ken, Scott and Jodi Hemer; Kim Wilson; Gin Swift; Chris Ozenich; Ted Cole, and Rich, Steve and Tammy Yester; six great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Lee Roberts, in Georgia; a brother and sister-in-law, Ramon T. and Millicent Hansen, in California, and several nieces and nephews. A service was held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Monaca United Methodist Church, 813 Indiana Ave., Monaca, where her pastor, the Rev. George S. Dran, officiated, assisted by a longtime family friend, the Rev. Hengust Robinson. Private interment took place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made, if desired, to the Monaca United Methodist Church, 813 Indiana Ave., Monaca, Pa. 15061. The SIMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, was in charge of arrangements.

Nellie K. Hintzel, of West Mayfield, formerly of Ellwood City, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. She was born in Ellwood City to the late Frank and Anna Kilar, and was married to the late Andy Hintzel. She is survived by a brother, Mike Kilar, Ellwood City; four sisters, Julie Follett and Marge Platek, both of Ellwood City, Pauline Jopchak, Patterson Township, and Della Florentine, North Sewickley Township, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Hintzel's name may be made to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Clarence R. Klingensmith, 77, of Chippewa Township, formerly of Jeannette, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in The Medical Center, Beaver. Born March 8, 1921, in Jeannette, Pa., he was a son of the late William P. and Edith Heasley Klingensmith. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was employed as an area manager of the Westinghouse Electric Corp., Beaver Division, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Chippewa United Methodist Church, Beaver County Caravan 18, Parian Lodge 662 F&AM, Masonic Temple Association, Syria Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., Westinghouse Fellowship Association and the Westinghouse Electric Corp. Foreman's Association, East Pittsburgh. Surviving are two daughters and three sons-in-law, Virginia L. and Michael P. Smakosz, Judy A. and John E. Beighey, and Lanny A. Dillon, all of Chippewa Township; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Sis Klingensmith, Jeannette, Pa.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Chelsea Loughner, Jeannette, and Agnes and Carl Oplinger, Bovard, Pa.; five grandchildren, Lanny A. Dillon Jr. and his wife, Joyce, Dumfries, Va.; Angela M. and her husband, Vince Bettoni, Beaver Falls; Jennifer M. Smakosz, Chippewa Township; Amy M. Smakosz, Raleigh, N.C., and Michael P. Smakosz Jr., Erie, Pa., and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Pearl Frye Klingensmith, on March 6, 1997; a daughter, Donna M. Dillon, on Dec. 14, 1997; a brother, William Klingensmith, and a sister, Ethel Kelly. Friends will be received today from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LUTTON CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME, 117 Blackhawk Road, where prayers will begin Monday at 11 a.m., followed by a church service at 11:30 a.m. in the Chippewa United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Tubbs, of the Chippewa United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. Dorothy J. (Doris) Kurhansky, 63, of Industry, was called home to be with her Lord after a brief illness, Saturday, Feb. 12, 1999. Born April 20, 1935, in Rochester, a daughter of Mildred Vuynovich Siget, Rochester, and the late Ivan Siget, she was a retired employee of the the Westinghouse Corporation, Vanport, with 35 years service. She was a member of St. Blaise Roman Catholic Church, Midland, and was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary B.P.O.E. 283, Rochester. Mrs. Kurhansky was a very active member in numerous functions of the Rochester Elks. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Norman S. Kurhansky; five daughters and three sons-in-law, David and Johnna Milliken, Aliquippa; John and Michaelene Van Dine, Vevay, Ind.; George and Audra Thomas, Charlotte, N.C.; Ms. Rae Lynn Kurhansky, Lexington, Ky., and Ms. Norma Jean Kurhansky, Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Taylor and Corey Milliken, Aliquippa; Olyvia Ivanne Thomas, Charlotte, N.C., and Samuel and Jacob Kurhansky, Lexington, Ky.; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Steve and Stella Siget, Rochester; Joseph and Dorothy Siget, Conway; Mike and Sophia Siget, Center Township, and Helen Siget, Rochester; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Roy and Diana Bigler, Murrysville, Pa., and Verdane and Mary Ann Brown, Rochester Township, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, John J. Siget Sr., in 1996. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC. 349 Adams St., Rochester. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, Rochester. The Rev. Father Dennis J. Bradley, St. Blaise Roman Catholic Church, Midland, will act as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Cemetery, Daugherty Township.
