Private graveside services were held for Homer H. Mest, 87, widower of Viola M. (Gilberg) Mest, of School Lane, North Wales, and formerly of Boyertown Pike, Boyertown, who died Oct. 15 at St. Agnes Hospice in Philadelphia. Mest was born in Hereford and worked as a carpenter for 22 years with the former Robert Gresh Contracting Company in Pottstown, retiring in 1975. During World War II, Mest served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy J. (Mest) Kauffman, Fleetwood; one sister and two grandsons. Mest was predeceased by a daughter, Carol L. Strunk. The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown.
CHARLES LISKIEWICZ SR.
Services were held for Charles J. Liskiewicz Sr., 85, of Miles Road, Gilbertsville, who died Oct. 22 at Phoenixville Hospital where he had been a patient. He was the widower of Jennie (Cronrath) Liskiewicz. Born in Conshohocken, he was a machinist for the former Daystrom Transcoil, Worcester, for 20 years, last working in 1979. He is survived by two sons, John R. Liskiewicz, of Gilbertsville, and Charles J. Liskiewicz Jr., with whom he last resided; one sister, six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2045 W. Gate Drive, Suite 302, Bethlehem, PA 18017. The arrangements were handled by the C. L. Losh Funeral Home, Boyertown.
WILLIAM E. YEAGER
Private services were held for William E. Yeager, 75, of Alsace Ave., Alsace Township, who died Oct. 18 in St. Joseph Medical Center. Born in Stony Creek Mills, Yeager was employed for 12 years as a laborer by Empire Steel Castings Inc., Muhlenberg Township, until his retirement. He was a life member of the Alsace Fire Company and an Army veteran. Surviving are two sisters and four brothers. The arrangements were handled by the John P. Feeney Funeral Home Inc., Reading.
WILLIAM D. WILLIAMS
Services were held for William D. Williams, 65, husband of Marlene L. (Yoder) Williams, of Little Road, New Hanover, who died Oct. 21 in the Pennsburg Manor Nursing Home. Born in Upper Lehigh, Williams worked for the Montgomery County Board of Elections in Norristown for 20 years and also for the Pennsylvania Game Commission for 37 years. He also was a brick mason contractor in the area for many years. Williams was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Freeland and a member of Warren Masonic Lodge No. 310, Collegeville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Matthew J. Williams, of New Hanover; six sisters, Blodwyn, wife of Burton Smith, of Pottstown, Beatrice, wife of Harry Taylor, of Catlett, Va., Esther, wife of Henry Wray Jr., of Bunker Hill, W. Va.; Ruth, wife of Ernest Effrig, of Gilbertsville, Gwendolyn Kromis, of Upper Lehigh, and Elinor Reese, of Walnutport, Northampton County; and two brothers, Llewellyn Williams, of Easton, and Edmund D. Williams, of Pottstown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sister and two brothers. Memorial donations may be made to Pennsburg Manor, 530 Macoby St., Pennsburg, PA 18073. MARIAN HOFFMANN
A memorial service was held for Marian (Roseth) Hoffmann, 76, of the Frederick Mennonite Community, who died Oct. 19 at her residence. Born in Austin, Minn., she was a graduate of the Austin High School, Austin, Minn. She worked as a cashier for the Wyeth Laboratory. Hoffmann was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, and a former member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of West Chester. She is survived by three daughters, Nina H. Melwert, of Schwenksville, M. Jean, wife of Louis M. DelMuto, of Hatfield, and Gail N. Hoffmann, wife of Charles D. Miller, of Spring City; one sister; five grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Memorial donations may be made to the Frederick Mennonite Community, PO Box 498, Frederick, PA 19435. Burial was held privately by the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Royersford.
NAOMI I. WEBER
Private services and burial was held for Naomi I. Weber, 90, of Oley Furnace Road, Ruscombmanor Township, who died Oct. 18 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Muhlenberg Township, where she had resided since 1997. Her husband, Carl F. Weber, died in 1996. Born in Wernersville, Weber and her husband operated The Ladies Shop, Fleetwood, for 30 years, until her retirement. She was a graduate of Wernersville High School. Surviving are a daughter, Margaret L. (Weber) Emerick, Ruscombmanor Township; and a grandson. The Daniel R. Christ Funeral Home, Oley, was in charge of the arrangements.
JOHN M. BOWER SR.
Services were held for John M. Bower Sr., 65, who died Oct. 18 in his residence at Miller Ave., Alsace Manor. He was the husband of Sandra S. (Kunkle) Bower. Born in Berks County, Bower was employed for 38 years by Yuasa-Exide Inc., Muhlenberg Township, retiring as a supervisor in 1994. He was a life member of the Alsace Manor Fire Company and the Oley Fish & Game Association. Bower is also survived by five sons: Michael J. and Charles P., both of Alsace Township; Scott A., Fleetwood; and Daniel S. and John Jr., both at home. Other survivors include three daughters: Sandra J. (Bower) Bitting, Ruscombmanor Township; Jeanne L. (Bower) Yoder, Alsace Township; and Mary E. (Bower) Simmons, Exeter Township. Also surviving are three brother: Daniel M. and David M., both of Alsace Township; and Walter M., Laureldale. And, three sisters: Mabel E. (Bower) Potteiger, Reading; Margaret A. (Bower) Hoffman, Muhlenberg Township; and Dorothy M. (Bower) Sorg, Barto. There are also 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The arrangements were handled by the Daniel R. AMOS H. OSMAN
Services will be held for Amos H. Osman, 84, husband of Naomi H. (Brown) Osman, of Douglass Street, Boyertown, who died Oct. 23 at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Barto, he retired after 30 years of employment with the former Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., Pottstown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Boyertown; a life member of the Liberty Fire Co., Gilbertsville, and the Friendship Hook and Ladder Co., Boyertown, he was also a member of the Berks County Fireman’s Assoc., the Pike Township Sportsman’s Assoc., and Woodman of the World, Bechtelsville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Amos H. Osman Jr. of Pottstown; two stepdaughters, Lois E., wife of Russell Biehl of Pottstown, and Janis E., wife of George Schluchterer of Florida; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the Catagnus Funeral Home Inc., 1020 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville. A viewing will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Saint John’s Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, PA 19512. Interment will be in Hill Church Cemetery , Boyertown.
MILDRED C. MYERS
A memorial service will be held for Mildred C. (Chase) Myers, 85, widow of Frederick H. Myers, of Gilbertsville, who died Oct. 21 in her son’s home in Obelisk. Born in Carlton, N.Y., she was employed as a secretary for General Electric, Albany, N.Y., in the 1940s and 1950s. She later was employed by a women’s clothing store, Paoli, Chester County. Myers was a volunteer doing church work in Daytona, Fla. She was a member of the Flower Club and the Bridge Club, both in Paoli. She is survived by two sons, Richard P. Day of Birdsboro and Edward C. Myers of Obelisk; two sisters and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, at St. James United Church of Christ, 321 S. Limerick Road, Limerick. The Rev. James Roth, pastor, will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1227 Liberty St., Allentown, PA 18103; or to any charity promoting literacy. Interment will be in St. Luke’s Church Cemetery , Obelisk. The arrangements are being handled by the Ruggiero Funeral Home, Trappe.
CHRIS E. GAUBY SR.
Services were held for Chris E. Gauby Sr., 47, of Walnuttown Road, Ruscombmanor Township, who died Oct. 13 in St. Joseph Medical Center, where he had been a patient. Born in West Reading, he was a son of Ernest E. Gauby, with whom he last resided, and the late Elizabeth J. (Stempkowski) Gauby. Gauby and his father operated Gauby Mechanical Contractor Co. at their residence for 25 years, last working in 1993. Gauby was an Army veteran. He is also survived by two daughters, Melissa K. (Gauby) Reimert, Hamburg, and Melinda K. Gauby, Temple; and three sons: Christian, Greensboro, N.C.; Chris E. Jr., Mohnton; and Jason B., Shoemakersville. Other survivors include a sister, Joan E. (Gauby) Miller, Ruscombmanor Township; his stepmother, Marjorie E. (Hertzog) Gauby, Ruscombmanor Township; and two grandchildren. The arrangements were handled by the Daniel R.
