Former Lyons police chief
Services were held in the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Fleetwood, for Stewart D. Borrell, of Edgewood Circle, Chamberburg, Franklin County, and formerly of Fleetwood, Lyons and Kutztown, who died June 11 in Chambersburg Hospital, where he had been a patient one week.
Burial was in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy G. (Hoch) Borrell, who died on March 13, 1997.
Born in Muhlenberg Township, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Maude (Miller) Borrell.
He served as the Lyons police chief from 1968 to 1978 and was also a constable in the borough.
Until retiring in 1982, he was employed as a crane operator by Carpenter Technology Corp. for 35 years.
Borrell was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Oley Township.
Surviving are three daughters: Donna R. (Borrell) Fink, Coopersburg, Lehigh County; Sharon L. (Borrell) Mittle, Kutztown; and Suzanne L. (Borrell) Tolbert, Chambersburg.
There are also seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers, Milton Borrell, Allentown, and James Borrell, Millville, Del.; and two sisters, Anna (Borrell) Schappell, Topton, and Pauline (Borrell) Strause, Shoemakersville.
Lester I. Miller, 82
Services were held in the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Fleetwood, for Lester I. “Piper” Miller, of South View Road, Maidencreek Township, who died June 13 in Kutztown Manor, where he had been a patient for one day.
Burial was in St. Paul’s Union Cemetery , Fleetwood.
He was the husband of Josephine N. (Neider) Miller.
Born in Walnuttown, he was a son of the late Herbert and Bertha (Boyer) Miller.
Until retiring in 1983, he was employed by Carpenter Steel Company for 32 years.
He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran.
Also surviving are a brother, Norman Miller, Walnuttown; and two sisters, Elaine J. (Miller) Burgert and June (Miller) Derr, both of Fleetwood.
Anna H. Keller, 91
Graveside services were held in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township, for Anna H. Keller, of East Wesner Road, Maidencreek Township, who died June 12 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient two weeks.
She was the wife of Daniel H. Keller.
Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Bechtel) Hauck.
Until retiring in 1990, she was employed as a cook by Weaver’s Kountry Kitchen, Ontelaunee Township, for 13 years. She previously was employed as a pairer for Temple Full Fashion Hosiery for 20 years.
Also surviving are a daughter, Dolores (Fetterolf) Becker, Mohrsville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
There is also a sister, Grace (Hauck) Dutt, Reading.
Blanche M. Ahrens, 82
Services will be held June 20, 1 p.m. in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Laureldale, for Blanche M. Ahrens, who died June 16 in the residence of a son, Richard K. Ahrens, Allentown Pike, Maidencreek Township.
Burial will be in Maidencreek Cemetery , Blandon.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Ahrens, who died Feb. 9, 1980.
Born in Maidencreek Township, she was a daughter of the late Herman S. and Florence E. (Rothermel) Groh.
She was a charter member of the Blandon Lioness Club and a 50-year member of Reading Chapter 251, Order of the Eastern Star.
Ahrens was a member of Maidencreek Church, Blandon, where she was a choir member.
Also surviving are another son, Raymond A. Ahrens, Rockland Township; four granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Bertha M. Reichert, 85
Services will be held June 20, 10 a.m., in the Christian Congregational Church, Mertztown, for Bertha M. Reichert, of Schantz Road, Breinigsville, who died June 16 in Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Burial will be in Hill Church Cemetery , Pike Township.
She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd H. Reichert, who died in 1998.
Born in Pike Township, she was a daughter of the late Greeley F. and Katie (Meck) Rohrbach.
Until retiring, she and her husband were the owners/operators of a farm in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County. She was later employed by Grim’s Greenhouse and Farm Market Inc., Breinigsville.
Reichert was the first female bus driver in the Parkland School District, working eight years.
She was a former officer of the Trexlertown Grange.
Reichert was a member and former deacon of the Christian Congregational Church, Mertztown.
Surviving are a daughter, Naomi R. (Reichert) Grim, Breinigsville, and two grandchildren.
The Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville, is in charge of arrangements.
Beulah E. Fox, 91
Services will be held June 21, 10:30 a.m., in New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Rockland Township, for Beulah E. Fox, of Forgedale Road, Rockland Township, who died June 17 in the Henry Health Care Center at the Lutheran Home at Topton, where she had resided since April 15.
Burial will be in the New Jerusalem Union Cemetery .
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer B. Fox, who died in July 1940.
Born in Rockland Township, she was a daughter of the late Frederick M. and Lizzie D. (Kercher) Keller.
Until retiring in the late 1970s, she was employed as a sewing machine operator by the Fleetwood Shirt Factory and Astor Knitting Mills, Reading.
She was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church.
Surviving is a daughter, Jean E. (Fox) Noll, with whom she last resided, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include two sisters, Mary E. Keller, a resident at Tower Court at the Lutheran Home at Topton, and Bertha A. (Keller) Bennecoff, Fleetwood.
She was predeceased by a son, Elmer F. Fox, who died in 1988.

Christian M. Alfiero, 24
Services were held in the Bean Funeral Home, Reading, for Christian M. Alfiero, of Deysher Road, Rockland Township, who died Aug. 9 in St. Joseph Medical Center.
Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery .
Born in Reading, he was a son of Marty T. Alfiero, at home, and Cynthia M. (Linette) Alfiero, Allentown.
He was a 1998 graduate of Reading High School.
Alfiero had been employed as a cook.
Also surviving are three brothers, Shane M. Alfiero and Jeffrey P. Alfiero, both of Rockland Township, and Jeremy J. Alfiero, Reading.
Other survivors include his paternal grandfather, Frances Alfiero, Reading and his maternal grandfather, James P. Linette, Naples, Fla.
Warren J. Oswald, 91
Services were held in the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, for Warren J. Oswald, of North Park Avenue, Mertztown, who died Aug. 6 in Lehigh Valley Hospital where he had been a patient four days.
Burial was in Union Cemetery , Bowers.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen A. (Geist) Oswald, who died July 2, 1999.
Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Daniel L. and Katie L. (DeLong) Oswald.
Until retiring in 1977, he was employed as a press operator by Caloric Corp., Topton, for more than 30 years. He was previously employed as a laborer in the shell treatment department of Bethlehem Steel Corp. from 1941-45.
In May 1996, Oswald and his wife were removed from the state’s PACE program because their annual income rose 4 cents over the limit. After bringing their situation public, State Sen. Michael A. O’Pake introduced legislation to raise the income-eligibility limits, and the Oswalds were reinstated in Nov. 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Richard D. Oswald and Paul C. Oswald, both of Mertztown; and three daughters: Carolyn M. (Oswald) Seidel, Maxatawny; Mary A. (Oswald) Lloyd, Macungie; and Kathryn S. (Oswald) Grow, Mertztown.
There are also 13 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include a sister, Marie (Levan) Hilbert, Mertztown; a half sister, Mae (Oswald) Lloyd, Macungie; and a stepbrother, Warren Rohrbach, Macungie.
He was predeceased by a son, Warren J. Oswald Jr., who died in 1947.
Joseph Tomalonis Jr., 63
The Bean Funeral Home, Sinking Spring, was in charge of arrangements for Joseph B. Tomalonis Jr., of West Walnut Tree Drive, Maidencreek Township, who died of natural causes Sept. 29 after being stricken in J and L’s Sandwich Shop, Maidencreek Township, where he was employed for the past 1 1/2 years.
Burial was private.
He was the husband of Lerinda M. (Jimenez) Cupani Tomalonis.
Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Joseph B. Tomalonis Sr. and Julia (Grabarz) Tomalonis.
Until retiring in 2001, he was a self-employed contractor for 27 years.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Vincenza V. (Cupani) Scott, West Lawn, and Melisa I. Cupani, Exeter Township, and five step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a stepson, Angelo J. Cupani, who died in 2000.
Mae Leimbach, 85
Services were held in Zion’s Union Church, Maxatawny, for Mae Leimbach, formerly of Kutztown, who died Oct. 1 in Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford, Chester County, where she had resided since Dec. 30.
Burial was in Zion (Maxatawny) Union Cemetery .
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Leimbach, who died Aug. 22, 1987.
Born in Maxatawny Township, she was a daughter of the late Victor W. and Annie W. (Cronrath) Wabert.
She was a graduate of Allentown Business School.
Until retiring in 1987, she was employed as office manager by W. T. Grant Co., Salisbury, Md., for 23 years. She was previously employed 15 years by the Aberdeen (Md.) Pharmacy and four years by the Quarryville Drug. Co. From 1956 to 1964, she was employed as a deputy register of wills in the Berks County Courthouse.
She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Zion’s Union Church, Maxatawny Township.
Surviving are a son, James N. Walbert, Occoquan, Va., and three grandchildren.
