Hattie G. (Coss) Wells, of Canandaigua, NY, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5 2002 at Ontario County Health Facility. She was formerly of Herrickville, PA. A loving sister and aunt, Hattie was 102 years old.
Born in Herrickville, Aug. 3, 1899, she was a member of the Herrickville Wesleyan Church for 40 years and a member of the Crosswinds Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua for 13 years.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Charles Combs of Rochester, NY; a sister-in-law, Edna Coss of Canandaigua, NY; 11 nieces and nephews, James and Shirley Coss of Marcy, NY, Barb Coss and Ruth and Earl Outhouse of Canandaigua, NY, Judith and Clarence Parr of Oregon, Suzanne and William Carter of Naples, NY, Edward, Paul, Westley, Marvin Pelton of Pennsylvania and Florida, Leona Beatty of Spencer, NY, Maude Coss of Wilson, CA; many great and great-great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Lee H. Wells in 1971; two brothers, James A. and Janna Coss; one sister, June Edith Pelton.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Contributions may be made to the Crosswinds Wesleyan Church, Middle Cheshire Rd., Canandaigua or to the Herrickville Wesleyan Church, RR3, Box 99, Wyalusing, PA 18853.
Arrangements were made by the Fuller Funeral Home, Inc., 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua.

Geraldine A. VanWinkle
Feb. 5, 2002
Geraldine A. VanWinkle, 95, formerly of Camptown, PA, died on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at Founders Pavilion, Corning, NY, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 13, 1906 in Jackson Valley, PA, the daughter of the late Frank C. and Linda Mae Potts Anderson. She had attended Camptown High School.
Geraldine and Clarence Floyd VanWinkle were marriage on Aug. 16, 1924 in Elmira. Clarence predeceased her in 1953.
She was employed at the Eclipse Company in Elmira during WWII and later at the Camptown Dress Co. She retired from the Bendix Corporation of South Montrose in 1973 with 21 years of service with the company. Following her retirement, she dedicated her time to her children and grandchildren and traveling.
Geraldine was a member of the Rushville Presbyterian Church and a member and past officer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Northeast Bradford VFW Memorial Post #6824, Chapter #498 Order of the Eastern Star in LeRaysville and a member of the Ernestine Rebekah Lodge #548 in Rush.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Patrick and Charles Edmister of Corning, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Ellen VanWinkle of Wilton, NH; a daughter-in-law, Miriam VanWinkle of Lawton; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by son, Floyd Lyndon VanWinkle; two sisters, Anna Jones and Clara Jones and by three brothers, Leon Anderson, Jesse Anderson and her twin, Gerald Anderson.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in Rushville at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held in the family lot in the Rushville Cemetery .
Arrangements are being made by Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning, NY.
The family would appreciate memorial donations be given to the Wyalusing Volunteer Ambulance Corp., Wyalusing, PA.

Francis Gerald Taylor
Feb. 2, 2002
Francis Gerald Taylor, age 83, of Herrickville, PA, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda.
Francis was born in Herrick Township on Nov. 8, 1918, the son of the late Ralph F. and Cleo Camp Taylor. He attended local schools and was a lifelong dairy farmer in Herrickville. He marriage the former Dorothy Roof of Standing Stone on May 2, 1953 and they celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary last May.
Francis truly loved farming and also working with tractors. He also worked for Herrick Township and at the Wyalusing Livestock Market.
He was a member of the Herrickville United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Dairymen’s League and the Eastern Milk Producers Association.
Surviving are his spouse, Dorothy, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Colleen Taylor, Herrickville; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Kenneth Dauberman, Athens, Glenda Taylor, Standing Stone, Elizabeth and Phil Malt of London, England; a brother, Glenn W. Taylor, Herrickville; sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Richard Sandt, Herrickville; five grandchildren, Tammy Stedge and Kelly Dauberman, Jeff Taylor, Amy Taylor and Kim Fassett; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Stedge and Jade Lee. He was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy Lee Dauberman.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Herrickville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Helen Henderson Learn, his pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Camptown Cemetery .
Friends called at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service.
The family provided the flowers and requested that memorials be directed to the HOPS Ambulance Association, c/o James W. Seipler, RR1, Box 280, Rome, PA 18837, the Herrickville Fire Company, c/o Granden Houghtaling, RR3, Box 141, Wyalusing, PA 18853 or to the Herrickville United Methodist Church, c/o Ruth Weingartner, RR1, Box 35, Stevensville, PA 18845.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing.

LaRue S. VanDeMark
March 19, 2002
LaRue S. VanDeMark, age 59, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda.
She was born on Nov. 3, 1942 in Kingston, a daughter of the late Corey, Sr. and Harriett Gromes Sickler.
On March 4, 1964, she marriage Joseph VanDeMark. They celebrated 38 years of marriage.
LaRue was a cook and had been employed by the Wyalusing Hotel, Mark’s Valley View, Betty’s Diner and had started at Lieberg’s Diner on Lime Hill.
She enjoyed time spent gardening, bird watching and she especially loved to cook.
She left surviving her husband, Joseph VanDeMark, at home; five children, Lorri and Rick Bellows of Wysox, Brenda Wheeler and Charles Birk of Wyalusing, Joseph VanDeMark, Jr. and Beth Alexander of Warren Center, Michelle VanDeMark and Donald Goble of Wyalusing, Maria VanDeMark of Camptown; sisters and brothers, Corey Sickler, Jr., Ted Sickler, Jr., Glen Sickler, Jean Mader, Betty Bates, Carol Wright, Cookie Argenio, Terry Sickler and Wayne Sickler; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Sickler.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing, with the Rev. Beverly Davenport, her pastor, officiating.
Friends and family called on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Towanda Memorial EMTs, One Hospital Drive, Towanda, PA 18848.

Esther Jane Smiley Hope
March 22, 2002
Esther Jane Smiley Hope, age 72, of Terry Township, PA, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Esther was born Nov. 7, 1929 at home in Terry Township, daughter of the late Ivan and Ruth Bailey Keeney. She attended the Terrytown School and marriage Rodney Smiley of Granville Summit in 1945. Rodney predeceased her April 10, 1978.
Esther marriage James Hope of Lovelton on April 16, 1983. She worked for many years for the P&N Packing Company of Terrytown. She was a loving spouse and mother and very much enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her spouse, James Hope, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Chris Smiley, Terrytown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Smiley, Terrytown, Penny and William Farley, Towanda, Debbie and Tony Kolodziej, Lime Hill; a brother, Charles Keeney, Spring Lake; six grandchildren, Nicholas Farley, Brenda Farley, Britney Kolodziej, Bryan Kolodziej, Samantha Smiley and Justin Smiley, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, with the Rev. Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, presiding. Interment was in the Wyalusing Cemetery .
Friends called on Monday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Irvin L. Hitchcock
March 21, 2002
Irvin L. Hitchcock, 86, of Montrose, PA, passed away peacefully at the Montrose Hospital on Thursday, March 21, 2002.
Born in Herrick Township on June 13, 1915, he was marriage to the late Wilma Oakes Hitchcock for 33 years. They operated Friendly Acres Farm in East Rush for 32 years.
Irvin was a school bus driver for Elk Lake School District for 26 years and was also an accomplished carpenter.
He was a member of the East Rush United Methodist Church and Willow Brook United Methodist Church, Sun City, AZ. He retired to Sun City in 1973 with his second wife, Evelyn Stevens Hitchcock.
Arizona is where he fell in love with the game of Lawn Bowling in which he was a championship bowler. Irvin was known to family and friends for his generosity and willingness to extend a helping hand.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Wilma; his second wife, Evelyn of 25 years; four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two sisters, Belva Very of Rush and Iva Hitchcock of Endicott, NY; his sons and spouses, Eldred and Donna Hitchcock of Binghamton, NY, Leonard and Lorraine Hitchcock of Montrose; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Don Repsher of Laceyville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; stepsons and spouses, James and Barbara Stevens of Hayes, VA and William and Betsy Stevens of Severna Park, MD; a stepdaughter and spouse, Sue and Willard Dyson of Springville and four step-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at the East Rush Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the East Rush Church.

Mary T. Grippo
March 20, 2002
Mrs. Mary T. Grippo, age 88, of RR2, Wyalusing, PA (New Era), went home to our Lord on Wednesday afternoon, March 20, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda. Mrs. Grippo was a resident of the Highlands Care Center in Laporte for the past two years.
Born in Newark, NJ on Jan. 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Kathrine Kremlick. Mrs. Grippo was the wife of the late Allen P. (Pete) Grippo, who passed away in 1982.
Mrs. Grippo was a housewife and homemaker for her family. She was a resident of Wyalusing since her retirement in 1977, having returned to the area from her hometown of Kenilworth, NJ.
She was a loving mother of two sons, Allen E. Grippo, MD and Raleigh, NC and Anthony H. Grippo of Wyalusing; a daughter-in-law, Kathy D. Grippo of Morrison, CO; a sister, Mrs. Francis Wilson of Kenilworth, NJ; five grandchildren, Ms. Lisa Grippo of Washington, DC, Mrs. Joan Grippo Main (Steve) of Florida; Mr. Thomas Grippo (Debbie) of Towanda, Mrs. Toni McCarty (Ron) of Wyalusing and Mr. Ed Grippo (Adrienne) of Exeter; three step-grandchildren, Steven Livermore of Tucson, AZ, Roy Livermore of Denver, CO and Heidi Confer of Wyalusing; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Beside her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael Kremlick, Sebastian Kremlick, Frank Kremlick and John Kremlick; two sisters, Johanna Reuter and Kate DeNizo and a great-grandson, Joseph Covert.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Barry Ballard of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in the Wyalusing Cemetery. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Friday evening, March 22 from 7 to 9 and on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Elaine M. Dobrosielski
March 20, 2002
Elaine M. Dobrosielski died on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at her home in North Brunswick, NJ after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 22, 1949 in Binghamton, NY, raised in Pennsylvania, she lived in Old Bridge and North Brunswick, NJ.
She graduated in 1967 from Elk Lake High School in Dimock and graduated in 1971 from Mansfield State College in Mansfield.
She was a teacher of child care, home economics and consumer education at Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School in East Brunswick for about 30 years before retiring in January of this year. She also had a certification in Special Education.
Miss Dobrosielski was an advisor to students involved in V.I.C.A. (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) which holds vocational trade competitions.
She was a caring, loving and generous daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and teacher. She loved traveling, garage sales, shopping, gardening and cooking. Everyone who knew her at family events or V.I.C.A. competitions knew she would be somewhere taking pictures. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her parents, Casimir and Rita Dobrosielski of Tunkhannock; a brother, Steven of Bowie, MD: a sister, Sheila of Tunkhannock, sister-in-law, niece, four nephews, an aunt and several cousins.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. from the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, Auburn, with Father Joseph J. Manarchuck of the church officiating. Interment was in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Family and friends called at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen on Monday, March 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. The rosary was recited at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Joachim-St. Bonaventure Parish, PO Box 67, Meshoppen, PA 18630-0067.

William Francis Collins
March 15, 2002
William Francis Collins, 83, of Blacksburg, VA, died on Friday, March 15, 2002. Bill was born May 9, 1918 on the family farm in Laceyville, PA, the son of the late Francis and Agnes Collins. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Vern; daughters, Virginia, at home and Catherine (Richard) Kinyon of Newfane, NY; a son, W. Dennis (Kay) Collins of St. Petersburg, FL; he had special influence on his four grandchildren, Amy, Brian, Chrissy and Billy; a sister, Eleanor Shaffer of Seneca Falls, NY; two brothers, Robert of Owego, NY and Walter of Laceyville; several nieces and nephews.
He served as a pilot in the U. S. Marine Corps for nearly four years in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Upon his discharge, he returned to Penn State where he obtained his M.S. (1948) and Ph.D. (1949) degrees in Dairy Husbandry. He retired as a professor from The Food Science Faculty at Virginia Tech in June of 1984.
Mr. Collins was a member of the I.F.T., American Dairy Science Assn., American Assn. of Candy Technologies, International Assn. of Milk, Food and Environmental Samaritans, Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Tau Sigma and Epsilon Sigma Phi.
Besides being a devoted family man, he enjoyed helping others through his many volunteer activities. He had served as chairman of The Blacksburg’s Unit of the Salvation Army and spent countless hours as an instructor for Virginia’s Hunter Education Program.
A memorial mass was conducted at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 706 Harding Ave., Blacksburg, VA on Monday, March 18 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the William F. Collins Scholarship Fund at Dairy Foundation of Virginia, PO Box 866, Harrisonburg, VA 22801, Attn.: Dale Gardner.
The family was assisted by the McCoy Funeral Home of Blacksburg.

Leona Carolyn Blocher Colglazier
March 20, 2002
Leona Carolyn Blocher Colglazier, age 81, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Leona was born Nov. 10, 1920 in Yonkers, NY. She attended the University of Delaware and enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 1943. She achieved the rank of Master Technical Sergeant. Leona met her husband in the Marine Corps at Cherry Point, NC, beginning a 56 year marriage and raised five children while pursuing a career as personnel manager for several federal agencies until retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Colglazier was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Boyle Colglazier and her son, Donald Robert Colglazier.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Colglazier and Shirley Rollins, both of Greensboro, NC, Joan Colglazier of Isle of Palms, SC; a son, Roy Colglazier of Little Rock, AR and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 23 at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel, with the Rev. Carlton Morales, officiating. Interment was in the Forest Lawn Cemetery .
Friends and family called from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 5950 Fairview Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.

B. Paul Brodhun
March 26, 2002
Mr. B. Paul Brodhun, age 86, of RR2, Box 2298, Second St., Laceyville, PA, passed away Tuesday evening, March 26, 2002 at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.
Born in Shavertown, on Dec. 9, 1915, he was the son of Boynton P. and Minnie Stroh Brodhun.
Mr. Brodhun was a graduate of Dallas Township High School, Class of 1934. On March 14, 1939, he marriage the former Jeanne E. Forscht, to whom he had been marriage for the past 63 years. From Sept. 1943 until Jan. 1946, he was in the U.S. Navy, serving in the United States for the Navy Shore Patrol.
Mr. Brodhun was employed by the GLF in Honesdale and later for the Agway in Laceyville for over 35 years, retiring in the late 1970s. While at GLF and later Agway, he was a plumbing and electrical technician.
He was a member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church; member and past president of the Laceyville Rotary Club; past president of the Wyoming County Library Assoc.; member and past treasurer of the Laceyville Library; past member of the Laceyville Borough Council and past member of the Good Will Fire Company and the Laceyville Ambulance Assoc.
Since retirement, he had enjoyed time spent with his family. He and his wife enjoyed their many trips throughout the United States, where they both enjoyed golfing at many golf clubs on their trips. Mr. and Mrs. Brodhun were both members of the Shadowbrook Golf Club in Tunkhannock.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jeanne E. Forscht, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Bonnie Brodhun of Laceyville; two granddaughters, Deidri (Mike) Mullican of Laceyville and Denise Brodhun of LeMoyne, PA; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Mullican and Timothy Mullican of Laceyville; several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Mr. Brodhun’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. At the convenience of the family, there will be a memorial graveside service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make memorial donations to the Laceyville Library, PO Box 68, Laceyville, PA 18623 or to the Laceyville Ambulance Association, PO Box 274, Laceyville, PA 18623.
Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville.
