Mr. Eugene Dale "Rip" Carter, 61, of Lakeland, FL, passed away of heart failure on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at his residence.
Born April 1, 1942 in Meshoppen, he was the son of Ruth Jones Carter of Meshoppen and the late Elston Carter.
He moved to Lakeland from Laceyville in 1986 and was the owner of a Subway Shop in Grove Park Shopping Plaza.
He belonged to the Victory Assembly Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting and he was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Carter, Meshoppen; a son, Matthew James Carter, Lakeland, FL; two brothers, Lewis Carter, Sebring, FL, Harold Carter, Alachua, FL; two sisters, Esther Yoder, Gainesville, FL, Sharon Carter, Meshoppen; three grandchildren; and his ex-spouse, Sally Carter of Lakeland, FL. He was predeceased by a grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at the Victory Assembly Church, 1401 Griffin Road, Lakeland, FL.
Friends called at the Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Ministries, PO Box 3112, Lakeland, FL 33802.

Helen Dennis
June 3, 2003
Mrs. Helen Rokus Dennis, age 80, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the Schuyler Memorial Hospital, Montour Falls, NY.
Helen was born in Mildred, PA on July 22, 1922, a daughter of the late John and Blanche Skula Rokus. She attended local schools and marriage Frank Dennis of Lopez on June 27, 1947. They resided in Elmira, where Frank worked for Ward-La France Company. Frank predeceased her on July 19, 1992.
Helen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elmira, NY.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Karl Kakretz, Elmira, NY; brother, Dr. William Rokus, Leesburg, VA; sisters-in-law, Edith (Edie) Rokus, Leesburg, VA, Ann Kotch, Elmira, NY, Dorothy Kocher, Bangor, Helen Dennis, Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by brothers: Joseph Rokus, who was killed at Guadalcanal in WWII; Edward Rokus of Mildred and Peter Rokus of Montoursville.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 6 at 10 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with the Rev. Michael B. Harris, pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Lopez.
Friends may call on Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Arthur H. Donato, Sr.
May 31, 2003
Arthur H. Donato, Sr., of Forest Lake, PA died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Born April 19, 1940 in Tompkins Cove, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy [Dickett] Donato. His wife, Dolores F. [Elwood] Donato died in March 2001.
He owned and operated A & D Excavating for more than 30 years. Additionally, he was a former Township Supervisor for Forest Lake Township, and was a former member of the Forest Lake Volunteer Fire Company.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Dan Johnson, of Indianapolis, IN, Ellen Grant and Henry Grant of Forest Lake; sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur H., Jr. and Jan Donato, of Forest Lake, Don and Judy Donato of Little Meadows; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Edith "Nan" June of Forest Lake; special friend, Marlene Buza and her daughters, Lori (Chuck) Lane, Michele (Mike) Osterhout, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Donato, of The Villages, FL; nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Frank and William and a sister, Eileen Rose predeceased him.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., a Selected Independent Funeral Home, 74 Church Street, Montrose. The family received friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
If desired, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Forest Lake Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 346, Montrose, PA 18801.

Peter Layman
A celebration of the life of Peter W. Layman, age 98, very deeply respected educator of Sayre, Montrose and Wyalusing, PA will be held on Saturday, June 7th, at 11:00 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing. There will be calling hours on Friday, June 6th, from 70 to 9 p.m., and also on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Following the service there will be a luncheon at the funeral home for family and friends. The family will provide all of the flowers, and donations can be made to the Kathryn and Peter Layman Scholarship Fund, c/o Peoples State Bank, PO Box 217, Wyalusing, PA 18853-0217.

Bernetta Newman
May 27, 2003
Mrs. Bernetta Alberta Newman, age 81, of the Wyalusing Personal Care Home in Wyalusing, formerly of Laceyville, PA, passed away at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre on Tuesday evening, May 27, 2003.
She was born in Laceyville on July 7, 1921, the daughter of the late Hayes A. and Amanda Kelley Salsman. Mrs. Newman was the wife of the late Malcolm Newman, who passed away on May 24, 1973.
Mrs. Newman was employed as a seamstress at various dress factories in Laceyville, Wyalusing, Meshoppen and Pittston.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing bingo and constructing picture puzzles. She also enjoyed many hours spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Daniel G. and Deanna Newman, Chesapeake City, MD and her daughters and their spouses, Delores and Lyle Jones of Harding and Ms. Donna Newman of Greenville, MI; nine grandchildren, Katharine Newman of Los Angeles, CA, Grant Newman of Connecticut; Vickie Vanderpool of Laceyville, Jimmie Reese of South Carolina, Kenny Vaow, Greenville, MI, Shelly Scerrick, Greenville, MI, Sandie Hecht, Phoenix, AZ, Debbie Dornin of Pittsburgh and Tammy Jones of Louisville, KY; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, H. Augustus Salsman, Howard Salsman, Theodore Salsman, Carlton Salsman and Fred Salsman and eight sisters, Irene Salsman, Lillian Ham, Hazel May, Anna Keeney, Jeanette Brotzman, Lila Salsman, Betty Smith and Pearl Foux.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31 at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Richard Camp of Laceyville, officiating. Interment was in the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Edward Wodzinski
May 27, 2003
Edward A. Wodzinski, age 86, formerly of Houstontown, Mt. Cobb and Wyalusing, PA, passed away Tuesday evening, May 27, 2003 at the Towanda Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born in Vandling, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Kuklevich Wodzinski. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Curtis in 1982.
Ed attended schools in Throop and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army with the Third Division, 7th Army and 601 Ordinance Outfit. He received several medals including the Bronze Battle Star, Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and many more.
He was a member of American Legion Post #534 in Wyalusing; VFW Post #6072, Asylum and a life member of the DAV Post #11, Mid Valley, Dickson City.
An employee of PENNDOT, he was an equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Errington; three daughters, Eileen Bullock, Wellsville, PA, Esther Wodzinski Brewster, NY and Paulette Potter, Wyalusing; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alex and John Wodzinski; six sisters, Irene Telesha, Regina Cotton, Mary Topa, Florence Nemirovich, Ceil Goerig and Helene Pabis.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m. at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop, with Father Walter L. Ferrett, Assistant Pastor of the Sacred Heart Church of Scranton and Rev. Mary Jane Hitt, Pastor of the Providence Presbyterian Church, Green Ridge, Scranton, officiating. Entombment was in the Glenwood Mausoleum, Morgan Highway, Scranton. Military rites were held at the funeral home and at the mausoleum.
Friends called at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the local Disabled American Veterans.

Betty Wolf
May 22, 2003
Betty Wolf, age 59, of Wyalusing RR1, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at her home.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1943, in Meshoppen, a daughter of LeRoy Francis and Hazel Emmons Shoemaker.
Betty had been a resident of Wyalusing for 23 years.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by local garment industries, and later for the Wyalusing Hotel in housekeeping, giving 14 years of service.
She enjoyed time spent doing crossword puzzles, was a Nascar fan and enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers.
Surviving are her mother, Hazel Shoemaker; three children and their spouses, Hope and Kevin Johnson of Wyalusing, Dawn and Derek Bouse of Laceyville, Raymond Wolf of Cresco; sisters and brothers, Glen and Lorraine Shoemaker, Ronald and Lori Shoemaker, William and Rose Mary Shoemaker, Donald Shoemaker, Carl Shoemaker; five grandchildren, Dale, Michael, Nina, Devin and Kailin and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing.
Friends and family may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wyalusing Ambulance Association, in Betty’s memory.

Charlotte Vosefski
May 17, 2003
Charlotte (Champluvier) Vosefski, of Apalachin, NY, went to be with her Lord after a brief illness, Saturday, May 17, 2003. She was predeceased by her parents, Tracey and Vera Champluvier.
She was a retired General Electric Corporation employee, retiring after 25 years of service. She was an avid shopper and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 30 years, Richard M. Vosefski, Apalachin, NY; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Ray Rodriguez, Newark Valley, NY, Donna and Kenneth Angulas, Apalachin, NY and Deborah and Richard Holden, Owego, NY; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Michele and James Georgoudes, Endwell, NY, Beverly and Kenneth Berman, Westchester, IL; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Richard McDonough, Punta Gorda, FL; one brother and sister-in-law, Tracey and Mabel Champluvier, Towanda; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott with the Rev. Marilyn Barnard officiating. Interment was in the Wyalusing Cemetery .
The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 20 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Charlotte’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, NY 13905.

Janet Thompson
May 25, 2003
Janet M. Thompson, RR2, Meshoppen, PA, died on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. She was born in Meshoppen on Sept. 8, 1935, daughter of Verna Clapper McMicken Davis of South Auburn and the late Charles H. McMicken.
She was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, Class of 1953, and on Saturday evening, she had attended her 50th year class reunion.
Janet was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Meshoppen and a member of South Auburn Grange #1188. For many years she served as correspondent for the South Auburn news in the Rocket-Courier newspaper in Wyalusing.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles L. Thompson; sons, Aaron Thompson of Omaha, NE, Gregory Thompson of Kolo, Germany; a daughter, Kelly Minuski of Bear Creek; brothers, Mickey McMicken of Laceyville and Neale McMicken of Tunkhannock and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, with Father Joseph J. Manarchuck, Pastor of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Meshoppen. Interment will be in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, Meshoppen.
Friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 28 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Polycystic Kidney Research Foundation (P.K.R.), RR2, Box 236-B, Meshoppen, PA 18630.

Louis Musolino
May 20, 2003
Louis C. Musolino, age 71, of Forks Township, Sullivan County, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at his home after suffering a heart attack.
Lou was born in McAdoo, PA on April 25, 1932, son of the late Vincenzo and Josephine Greco Musolino. He graduated from the Freeland High School, a member of the Class of 1951and attended The Freeland Business School.
He was a master mold-maker for the Franklin Mint in Philadelphia. He taught mold-making in several of the Mint’s manufacturing plants throughout the world. He did significant training in Malaysia and also in England. He marriage the former Ilene P. Herron on June 16, 1991 and they retired to Sullivan County. During retirement, Lou worked for several years as a custodian for the Sullivan County School District.
He was an avid hunter and archer and belonged to several archery clubs in New Jersey.
Surviving are his spouse, Ilene, at home, a stepson and his spouse, Hal and Jennifer Oliver, McBee, SC; stepdaughters and their spouses, Melanie and Isaac Langley, Rockingham, NC and Monica and Chris Chukes, Hartsville, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law: Vincent and Jamie Musolino, Wildwood, FL and Pat and Maunia Musolino, Somerville, NJ; five granddaughters: Lauren and Makayla Bacon Brittany, Kristen and Cassidy Chukes
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, with the Rev. Michael B. Harris, pastor of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, officiating.
Friends called at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Sullivan County Scholarship Association, PO Box 277, Laporte, PA 18626.

Emma McCarty
May 25, 2003
Emma (Boyles) McCarty, age 84, of RR1, Forksville, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Skilled Nursing Unit at Memorial Hospital in Towanda after a brief illness.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1919 in Hillsgrove, a daughter of the late Leon E. and Hazel (Tuttle) Boyles.
On Aug. 11, 1934, Emma marriage her husband, Theos R. McCarty in Warrensville. It has been a loving marriage of 68 years.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Sulcraft Company in Dushore. In earlier years, she was employed by Sylvania and Carey McFall before Sulcraft, also a garment business. She had also been a waitress at local establishments and was a cook at DarWay Nursing Home. She and her husband also boarded hunters.
Emma spent most of her life raising her two sons and helping others. She also enjoyed her time spent crocheting, baking and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Theos R. McCarty; a son, Richard L. McCarty and his wife, Kathy of Forksville; a daughter-in-law, Dot McCarty of Pensacola, FL; three grandchildren, Craig McCarty, Michelle Frey and Carla Ard; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Rodney and Harold Boyles of Williamsport, Gene Boyles of Bloomsburg and Fred Boyles of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Wilma Jones of Williamsport and Lois Smith of Las Vegas, NV.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 12 noon at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, with the Rev. Robert W. Martin, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Elkland Township.
Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday morning, June 3 at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Bradford-Sullivan Unit, 1948 East Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 in Mrs. McCarty’s memory.
