Bertha Ruby Selfridge, age 81 of Centerville, Texas, formerly of Fifth Avenue in Butler, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at her residence in Texas.
Born June 21, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Henry C. Goempel and the late Bertha Rulland.
Mrs. Selfridge was a freelance artist and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Selfridge is survived by two sons, Reverend Dr. Bertram L. Gaines of Ridgeville, Ohio, Albert D. Gaines of Casper, Wyoming; two daughters, Candice J. Gaines of Butler, Pennsylvania; Michelle H. Martin of Centerville, Texas, and by ten Grandchildren, Russel, Jesse and Kara Gaines, Christopher Geibel, Skylar Cooper, Azza Novelli, Albert Gaines, Jr., Brooklyn Counts, Rachel Martin Moffitt, and Shelby Martin.
Mrs. Selfridge was preceded in death by her first husband, Arlington Lemar Gaines who passed away in 1965, by her second husband, Michael Chatsko who passed away in 1969 and by her third husband, William H. Selfridge who passed away in 1985 and by her friend Leif Von Krough.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 19, 2007 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with her son, Reverend Dr. Bertram L. Gaines officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Matthew J. Tynan
December 18, 1968 - April 11, 2007
Matthew Joseph Tynan, age 38 of West Pearl St., Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at his residence.
Born Wednesday, December 18, 1968 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of Kenneth R. Tynan, Sr. and Marilyn J. (Graham) Tynan.
Mr. Tynan was a Salesman for Irwin Building Supply & B&B Auto Sales. He did the color commentary for Butler High school football on WBUT radio. He was an alumni of Butler High school class of 1987. He was active in butler sports most of his life.
Mr. Tynan is survived by his father Kenneth R. Tynan, Sr. of Butler, mother, Marilyn J. Tynan of Butler, fiancée, Meagan Cavanaugh of Butler, two brothers, Kenneth Tynan, Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa, Casey J. Tynan of Butler, two sisters, Jennifer Strobel of Butler, Mrs. Lance (Susan) Cox of Olive Branch, Mississippi; four nephews and one niece.
Mr. Tynan was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 14, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday April 15, 2007 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Blessing Service will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Harry R. Bielewicz officiating. Private interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

Marjorie Marie "Marge" L. Packer

Marjorie Marie "Marge" L. Packer, age 80, of New Haven Lane, Crown Pointe, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 10:45 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born August 12, 1926 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Martin J. and Margaret McCauley Loeliger.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America.
Mrs. Packer was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading and taking part in church activities. She was a member of Kononia group five.
Mrs. Packer is survived by her husband, Joseph Henry Packer, whom she marriage on September 13, 1947, a son, Richard N. Packer and his wife Dorothy of Westview, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Julia Elizabeth Packer; a grandson, Jeffrey David Packer; and by six nieces and two nephews.
Mrs. Packer was preceded in death by one son, David Joseph Packer, one brother, William Loeliger and two sisters, Dorothy Float and Ethel Schaffer.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, April 13, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 12:00 noon with Reverend Dr. Curtis McDaniel of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America and Reverend Michael Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Alice Patten
September 14, 1912 - April 9, 2007
Alice Patten, age 94 formerly of Butler, died Monday, April 9, 2007 in the Royal Oaks Nursing Home, Titusville, Florida.
Born September 14, 1912 in she was the daughter of the late James Elliott and the late Anna Dee Mock.
Mrs. Patten was a beautician. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Titusville, Florida and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler. She enjoyed traveling and playing bingo.
Mrs. Patten is survived by two grandsons, Galen McManus of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, David McManus of Butler, Pennsylvania; one brother, Paul Elliott of Port Charlotte, Florida; four step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Patten was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Patten who passed away on August 13, 1972 and by a daughter, Dee Korn, two sisters and three brothers.
A Memorial service will be held at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Thomas Pierotti of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Bernard J. Marshalek

Bernard J. "Bernie" Marshalek, age 77 of Belmont Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at 11:15 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born June 7, 1929 in Marion Heights, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Joseph Marshalek and the late Anna Shiko.
Mr. Marshalek was a pharmacist for various pharmacies's in Butler and owned and operated Bernie's Flea-Mart in the Butler Area. Mr. Marshalek was an alumni of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, class of 1961. He was an avid record collector. Mr. Marshalek attended St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Marshalek is survived by his wife, Doris M. Marshalek whom he marriage on October 15, 1966, by two daughters, Ms. Regina A. Tabor of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. David (Mary T.) Metzler of Devon, Pennsylvania; one son, Bernard J. Marshalek of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; four granddaughters, Anna and Stephanie Tabor, and Carolyn and Julia Enyart.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, April 13, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Marion Heights, Pennsylvania.
Members of the St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at the church at 9:35 a.m.
Eda June Lutz
January 8, 1920 - April 6, 2007
Eda June Lutz, age 87 of formerly of North Bluff Street, Butler, Pennsylvania died Friday, April 6, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California after a short illness and battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She had been living in Marina del Rey, California.
Born January 8, 1920 in Harrisville, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Sophia Kuttie. A 1939 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, she moved to Zelienople, Pennsylvania shortly after graduation and eventually settled in Butler, Pennsylvania where she resided for the past 66 years, 47 of them at her home on Bluff Street.
Mrs. Lutz began working as a waitress for the Butler Elks Lodge Post #170 in 1941, where she remained for 40 years. During World War II, she also worked at Armco's Butler Works Facility in the shipping department. In the fall of 1981, she went to work as a waitress for Natili North Restaurant on Main Street in downtown Butler, Pennsylvania until her retirement in 1990, completing 50 years of service to the patrons of Butler. After her retirement, she frequently assisted local caterers with service to private parties and events in the Butler area.
She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butler, Pennsylvania, a lifetime member and past president of both the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Butler Elks Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and Eight and Forty organizations, and past treasurer of the General Butler Vagabonds Parents Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteer work with the church and traveling. Her favorite travel destination was Hawaii.
Mrs. Lutz is survived by one son, William Ralph Lutz, age 43 of Marina del Rey, California with whom she had lived since December 2004. Mr. Lutz is vice-president, Finance and Business Development with Deluxe Digital Media Management, Inc. in Los Angeles, California and a graduate of Butler High School, Boston University, and The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Lutz was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Ralph Lutz, who was deceased January 15, 1974 and whom she marriage in 1941. Her longtime companion Alva E. Glasgow of Butler, Pennsylvania also preceded Mrs. Lutz in death on December 15, 2004.

Services will be held at the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Alden W. Towberman officiating of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
