Norman B. Kummer

November 21, 1930 - May 26, 2007

Norman B. Kummer, age 76 of Orchard Lane, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, May 26, 2007 in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born November 21, 1930 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Joseph Kummer and the late Mildred Lippold.

Mr. Kummer was a roll grinder/foreman for AK (Armco) Steel. He was a member of North Main Street Church of God. Mr. Kummer was also a member of VFW Post #249 and the Korean Veterans Association.

Mr. Kummer is survived by his wife, Virginia Kummer, whom he marriage December 7, 1951, a son, Thomas B. Kummer of Gaithersburg, Maryland, two daughters, Mrs. James (Vickie) Hopson of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Steven (Patti) Norwitz of Holmdel, New Jersey; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Virginia Donaldson of Houston, Texas, six nieces, and four nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, May 28, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Kenneth C. Hall, minister of visitation at North Main Street Church of God officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors, 1719 North 60th Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68104.

Military honors will be conducted at the Cemetery by officers and members of VFW Post #249 and the American Legion Post 778.

Cecil C. Kornrumph

January 8, 1924 - May 19, 2007

Cecil C. Kornrumph, age 83 of 104 Fairlawn Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 5:15 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 8, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Ralph Kornrumph and the late Elsie Caldwell Kornrumph.

Mr. Kornrumph was a member of Unionville United Presbyterian Church.

He was employed in Stainless Inspection Department at Butler Armco. He retired in 1983 after thirty-nine years of service. Mr. Kornrumph was a member of William H. Miller Lodge #769 F. & A.M., a life member of Joseph T. Black Post # 249 VFW. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Europe as a surgical technician during the battle of the bulge and was the recipient of five bronze stars.

Mr. Kornrumph is survived by his wife, Marie Kelly whom he marriage on January 17, 1947, and by one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Beverly) Engle of Knox, Pennsylvania; one grandson, Edward Engle of Gaithersburg, Maryland; one brother, Richard Kornrumpf of Vero Beach, Florida; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Kornrumph was preceded in death by two sisters.

Visitation will be private. Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Matthew Kail of Unionville United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be made to Unionville United Presbyterian Church, 1114 Sunset Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Dolores C. Stehle Evans

July 17, 1919 - May 18, 2007

Dolores C. Stehle Evans, age 87 of North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at 6:15 p.m. in the Saxony Health Center.

Born July 17, 1919 in Butler, PA she was the daughter of the late Alfred Joseph Gallagher and the late Irene Catherine Marx Gallagher The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph T. Stehle, Jr., whom she marriage on June 14, 1950, and who died on October 12, 1991.

Mrs. Evans is survived by her second husband, Glenn Evans, whom she marriage on July 18, 1992, and by three sons and their wives, Jeffrey T. and Laureen Stehle, Joseph V. and Patricia Stehle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jonathan R. and Joyce Stehle of Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Jennifer and her husband Robert Mariacher of Butler, Pennsylvania; thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Evans was a graduate of Butler High School, she was class valedictorian in 1936. After graduation, she studied at the Art Institute in Baltimore, and worked in St. Louis, Missouri, Los Angeles, California and Seattle, Washington, where she worked as one of the first female draftsmen for World War II defense contractors. After the war, she returned to Butler and worked for Peoples Telephone Company, as well as doing window design for several Main Street stores. A member of the Associated Artist of Butler, she taught art classes at St. Paul's school and St. Fidelis Seminary. While raising her family, she worked for Trefry and Associates Architects, Butler City Planner, Malcolm Strachan, and Burt Hill Kosar Rittleman. As an interior designer for that firm, she designed the interior of the Butler Intermediate High School. She retired in 1985.

Mrs. Evans served on the Butler City Planning and Zoning Commission, a member of the Intermediate League of Butler and a life long member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed art, painting and drawing.

Mrs. Evans was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Father John Dillon of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Pomfret, Maryland officiating. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Contributions may be made to Associated Artist of Butler County, 344 South Main Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmas Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15205.

Members of St. Paul's guild and Christian mother's will recite the rosary at 9:35 am at the church.

Dr. Curtis C. Ruff

October 18, 1915 - May 17, 2007

Dr. Curtis C. Ruff, age 91 of Rowan Road, Wexford, Pennsylvania, Butler died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 4:47 a.m. in the Sunnyview Home.

Born October 18, 1915 in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Dr. Clay Ruff and the late Anna Cleaver.

Dr. Ruff attended public school in Slippery Rock and pursued higher education at Grove City College. After graduation, Dr. Ruff entered medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. He interned at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh from 1941-1942. Then, with WWII, he entered the army in December, 1942 and was a captain in the medical corp., stationed in Jackson, Mississippi at a German POW camp until the end of the war. In October 1946, Dr. Ruff went to the Mayo Clinic on a fellowship, while at the Mayo Clinic; Dr. Ruff received a Masters degree in surgery from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Ruff's thesis was pre-operative radiation therapy in the treatment of cancer of the rectum, which was later published in a medical journal. After five years in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Ruff decided to return to Butler, Pennsylvania so he could be near his aging parents. He was a general surgeon at the Butler Memorial Hospital for 35 years. He was chief of staff during the 70's at Butler. Throughout his life, Dr. Ruff has enjoyed sailing, photography, gardening and woodworking. Upon retirement, he has been able to spend time building furniture and enjoying Maine. Presently he lived with his wife, Ilagene in Wexford, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Hampton Presbyterian Church, Allison Park, Pennsylvania, was a member of the Butler County Medical Society and American College of Surgeons and a former member of the Butler Rotary Club.

Dr. Ruff is survived by his wife, Ilagene Ruff; three sons, Jim Ruff, Ken Ruff, and John Ruff; two daughters, Milann Ruff Daugherty, and Marcia Ruff; one stepdaughter, Leann Burkholder; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Private visitation and services were held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Christian School, 221 West New Castle Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Betty Hooks Haseltine

July 26, 1922 - May 11, 2007

Betty Hooks Haseltine, age 84 of Penny Farms, Florida, formerly of Butler, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Penney Farms Retirement Community.

Born July 26, 1922 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Harry G. Hooks and the late Mary E. Walker.

Mrs. Haseltine was a retired secretary in the Trust department for Mellon Bank with 25 years of service. She was a former member of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Haseltine is survived by a sister Sarah J. Merkner of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one step-daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Dora Mae) Foester of Wilmington, Delaware; two step-sons, Marcus W. Haseltine of Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, Daniel P. Haseltine, Tennessee and by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Haseltine was preceded in death by her husband Marcus W. Haseltine and by one sister and two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. from Thompson-Miller Funeral Home with Reverend Richard L. Merkner and Reverend Keith Hornung officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

Joseph E. Wach

December 4, 1952 - May 11, 2007

Joseph E. Wach, age 54 of Bell Road, Emlenton, Pennsylvania, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at his residence.

Born December 4, 1952 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he was the son of Joseph Wach and Adesha Montgomery.

Mr. Wach was an attendant for Kwik Fill gas station in Barkeyville, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war serving with the U. S. Marine Corp. Mr. Wach was a member of the VFW Post 7840, Paul W. Wood of Cherry Valley. Pennsylvania.

Mr. Wach is survived by two daughters, Michele L. Mellish of East Butler, Pennsylvania, Sarah J. Wach of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son, Joseph R. Wach of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, his mother, Adesha Rein of Windsor, California; his father, Joseph Wach of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a sister, Lorraine Alexander of Windsor, California; two brothers, Michael Wach of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Timothy Wach of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Clark Sawyer of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating.
