William T. Parr, age 86 of Highland Center Genesis, Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, formerly of Alameda Road, Butler, Pennsylvania died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 10:37 a.m. in the Highland Center Genesis.
Born July 14, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late William T. Parr, Sr. and the late Lulu B. Crabtree.
Mr. Parr was an engineer for United Telephone Co. He was a member of St. John's Reformed Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WW II. He was an Aviation Machinist Mate Second Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post #778 in Lyndora, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Parr is survived by his daughter, Karen Marchyshyn of Butler, Pennsylvania; a grandson, John L. Marchyshyn and his wife Jackie of Butler, Pennsylvania; granddaughter, Jodi Marchyshyn and her husband Christian Madison of Butler, Pennsylvania; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Marchyshyn and Julia Marchyshyn and also by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Parr was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian E. Parr who passed away on August 6, 1987 and by his second wife, Velma I. Parr who passed away on December 24, 1997 and also by one brother.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, August 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to Bethany Hospice or to Highland Center Genesis.
Officers and members of the American Legion and VFW will perform military honors at Butler County Memorial Park.

Kathleen J. Smith, age 55 of Evans City Road, Renfrew, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 10:35 a.m. in the Evergreen Nursing Center.
Born September 30, 1950 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Charles R. Holbein and the late Norma Jean Reed.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Smith was a demonstrator for Home and Garden Parties and she was involved with the North Washington Flames and Flickers.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Ron F. Smith whom she marriage on October 27, 1972, by son, Lance Smith of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Heather Shultz of Chicora, Pennsylvania, Ashley Smith of Butler, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Derrick Shultz, Noah Shultz, Kori Smith, Norma Smith; one brother, Charles "Bud" Holbein of Butler, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Dora Holbein of Karns City, Pennsylvania, Mary Holbein of Butler, Pennsylvania and by three nieces, Stacey, Carrie, and Megan Holbein.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend James W. Campbell of Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
Thomas J. Abels
December 17, 1918 - August 16, 2006
Thomas J. Abels, age 87 of Sunnyview Home, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Shelbourne Assisted Living died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 7:12 p.m. in the Sunnyview Home.
Born December 17, 1918 in Pleasant Hills, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William Abels and the late Cecelia K. Schiffhauer.
Mr. Abels was a retired self-employed farmer and a retired steel fabricator with Pullman-Standard Co. He was a member of Glade Run Church. Mr. Abels was a former elder, deacon and trustee of his church. He was a life time member of the Jefferson Grange the Butler Moose Lodge #64 and the Moose Legion.
Mr. Abels is survived by four sons, Robert W. Abels and his wife Georgene of Churchville, New York, T. William Abels of Meridian, Pennsylvania, Daniel W. Abels and his wife Pat of Columbia, Tennessee, Larry P. Abels and his wife Suzette of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Abels was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Fennell Abels who passed away on May 15, 2004 and also by two brothers.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Greg Weist of Glade Run Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion, Butler County Memorial Park.
James R. Herold
September 5, 1940 - August 9, 2006
James R. Herold, 65, of West Sunbury went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 9, 2006.
Born on September 5, 1940 in Butler, he was the son of Ina Mae Ellison Herold and the late John A. Herold.
He was a retired pipe fitter from local union #47 after 45 years of service.
Jim was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America in Butler. He was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and a member of the Butler County Pilots Association.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time at his camp in Franklin, flying his Piper Cub and helping his family and friends. He always had time to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marilyn Blain Herold and their children Jodi and Ken Stockert of Cabot, Jennifer and Dusten Clark and David and Kerri Herold all of Butler, five grandchildren Eddie, Rachel and Rebecca Stockert, and Kyle and Madisyn Clark.
In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his mother-in-law Velma Blain, two brothers John “Jack” Herold of Alabama and Dale (Dianna) Herold of Butler; three sisters, Gladie O’Day of Ohio, Patricia (David) Paraska and Judy (Raymond) Heichel both of Butler; two brother-in-laws Dale (JoAnn) Blain and Larry (Julie) Blain both of Butler and also by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, David and his father-in-law Arthur Blain.

Reverend James E. Hurd, age 69 of Windy Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 10:43 a.m. in the Kindred Hospital, Beaver, Pennsylvania.
Born April 11, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio he was the son of the late Frank O. Hurd and the late Dorothea Dunlap.
Reverend Hurd was a Pastor for Renewed Life Christian Counseling. In his earlier years he worked as a director of Youth Development Center in Warrendale, Pennsylvania. He was also on the pastoral staff at Northway Christian Community Church in Wexford, Pennsylvania. He has also pastored in Penfield, New York, at Countryside/Living Waters Church. Most currently he was director of Renewed Life Christian Counseling Services in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Reverend Hurd is survived by his wife, Lynne S. Stillson Hurd, one son and his wife, Alan F. and Laurie Hurd of Stanley, Idaho; one daughter and her husband, Mrs. Michael (Angela) Beall of Glen Burnie, Maryland; five grandchildren: Adrienne Hurd, Benjamin Hurd, Andrew Beall, Daniel Beall, and Noah Beall; one sister, Pamela Hurd of Cleveland, Ohio and by two nieces and two nephews.

Shirley Jane Swidzinski

Shirley Jane Swidzinski, age 76 of Valley View Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at 12:40 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born May 29, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Walter Fisher and the late Florence Davis.
Mrs. Swidzinski was a homemaker and Secretary/Treasurer for Frank Swidzinski Company. She was a member of Westminster PCA Church. Mrs. Swidzinski was the former financial secretary of her Church for many years. She was an avid Steeler Fan.
Mrs. Swidzinski is survived by her husband, Frank Swidzinski whom she marriage on August 4, 1950, and by two sons and their wives, Tom and Kimmy Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania, Dale and Robin Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Brooke Swidzinski, Beth and Mike Ensley, Bryan F. Swidzinski, Maura Swidzinski, Dylan Swidzinski; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Swidzinski was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Fisher.
