Eunice V. Shaffer, age 89 of Cupps Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 1:55 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born June 9, 1917 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Frank Weaver and the late Lillian Dunham.
Mrs. Shaffer was a homemaker but had previously worked at the Days Inn. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Ruth Circle at her church. She enjoyed reading and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shaffer is survived by two sons, Neal Shaffer, and Robert Shaffer both of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Linda) Weiland of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Richard (Connie) Uram of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one sister, Laverna Swerline of Oceanside, California and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis P. Shaffer who passed away on June 2, 1999 and also by four sisters, two brothers and one granddaughter.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, September 8, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend William King of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Edward Walter Vitz
August 4, 1918 - September 3, 2006
Edward Walter Vitz, age 88 of Rock Lake Dr., Zelienople, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at 7:15 p.m. in the Butler V A Medical Center.
Born August 4, 1918 in Autoria, New York he was the son of the late Edward W. Vitz and the late Ethel Hatosy.
Mr. Vitz was a self-employed mechanic. He was a life associate of the Ex-Pow Association, member of the National Audubon Society. He also enjoyed reading. Mr. Vitz was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II. He was a Captain in the infantry serving in Germany, France and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Vitz was the receipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Vitz is survived by his son, Edward W. Vitz of Kutztown, Pennsylvania; daughter, Marj C. Vitz of Southbury, Connecticut; four grandchildren and his companion, Florence.
Mr. Vitz was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor L. (Coder) Vitz who passed away on March 17, 2000.
There will be no public visitation or services. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

July 27, 1957 - October 30, 2006
Sue C. Burns, age 49 of West Sunbury Road, Boyers, Pennsylvania, died Monday, October 30, 2006 at 12:55 p.m. in the Clarion Hospital as the result of a traffic accident.
Born July 27, 1957 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of Carl W. Murdick and Sally M. Raible Murdick.
Mrs. Burns was an avid homemaker and she enjoyed cooking, canning and baking. She enjoyed hunting, gardening and camping.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband, Roy D. Burns whom she marriage on September 12, 1981, by two sons, Jed A. Burns of Boyers, Pennsylvania, Nathaniel Burns of Boyers, Pennsylvania; two daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Robert (Regina) Pruitt of Winterhaven, Florida, Mrs. Jason (Stephanie) Wetzel of Butler, Pennsylvania; her parents, Carl and Sally Murdick of Butler, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren: Danielle and Angel Pruitt of Winterhaven, Florida, Heavenly and Jason "J.J." Wetzel of Butler; one brother and his wife, Dave and Gina Murdick of Butler, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Sharon Dubyak of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Rankin of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Gary (Sheila) Rankin of Butler, Pennsylvania, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mary Kathryn Gray

Mary Kathryn Gray, age 91 of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 4:00 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born January 10, 1915 in Chicora, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Roland M. Gray and the late Arletta B. Horton.
Miss Gray was a Food Service Worker for Murphy's Department Store formerly on Main Street. She was a member of Community Alliance Church. Miss Gray was an alumni of Nyack College Class of 1939. She was active in her church where she taught Sunday School for many years, and a member of the Missionary Society. Miss Gray had previously done Christian work in Pueblo, Colorado for several years.
Miss Gray is survived by two sisters, Lois Mildred Gray of Concordia, and Mrs. Arletta (Betty) Koch of Scotia, New York; and also by eight nieces and nephews, and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
Miss Gray was preceded in death by two brothers Reverend Charles Horton Gray and Reverend Roland Malvern Gray, Jr. and one sister, Marjorie Ann Barbour.

Jennie E. "Betty" Gallagher
April 4, 1916 - October 29, 2006
Jennie E. "Betty" Gallagher, age 90 of the Terrace Apartment, South Cliff Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 1:10 p.m. in the Saxony Health Center.
Born April 4, 1916 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Hollie Watterson and the late Sadie Plunkard.
Mrs. Gallagher was retired from the dietary department at Butler Memorial Hospital. She was Protestant by faith. Mrs. Gallagher participated in the Foster Grandparent Program for 25 years. She is the last surviving member of her family.
Mrs. Gallagher is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gallagher was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Gallagher who passed away in 1971 and also by two brothers and two sisters.

Helen E. Nicklas, age 90 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 4:42 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born January 15, 1916 in Blairs Corners, Clarion County, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late George E. Mong and the late Edith Gilbert.
Mrs. Nicklas was a homemaker. She was a member of Middlesex Presbyterian Church in America and very active in her church. She also helped her husband who was the caretaker of the Brownsdale Cemetery for many years.
Mrs. Nicklas is survived by her husband, C. George Nicklas, Sr. whom she marriage on October 24, 1939, by one son, C. George Nicklas, Jr. and his wife Rita of Afton, Virginia; one daughter, Susan Nicklas of Butler, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters Lisa Marie Lowman and her husband Stace of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Laura Ann Nicklas of Laguna Beach, California, two great-granddaughters, Mariah Christine Lowman and Skyler Jean Lowman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, one sister, Mrs. Thelma Diamond of Rouseville, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Nicklas was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
