Bernard J. Gallagher, Sr.

April 27, 1915 - December 17, 2006

Bernard J. Gallagher, Sr., age 91 of Chicora Medical Center, Chicora, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, December 17, 2006 at 4:15 p.m. in the Chicora Medical Center with his family by his side.

Born April 27, 1915 in Freeport, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late John J. Gallagher and the late Anna M. Williams.

Mr. Gallagher worked in the Wheel Works department at Armco Steel, retiring in 1970 after 32 years of service. After retirement he worked at St. Paul's school as head custodian for four years, then he did some custodial work at the Courthouse for Butler Couty for four years. Mr. Gallagher was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the K of C bowling league and the 65 retirees.

Mr. Gallagher is survived by one daughter-in-law, Sandra Gallagher of Chicora, Pennsylvania with whom he lived with for the past five years prior to going to Chicora Medical Center; by four grandchildren, Joe Gallagher, and Tammy Gallagher both of Chicora, Pennsylvania, Robert S. Isaacs, Jr. and Scott J. Isaacs, Sr. both of Butler, Pennsylvania; six great-grandchildren, two brothers, Walter Gallagher of Butler, Pennsylvania, Edward Gallagher of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. John (Patty) Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gallagher was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta J. Gardner Gallagher who passed away on January 31, 2000, also by one daughter, Roberta Isaacs, one son Bernard J. Gallagher, Jr., two sisters and one brother.

There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Harry Bielewicz of officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Members of the St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

Contributions may be made to American Cancer Association, Butler Unit, Butler Unit, Post Office Box 3014, Butler, Pennsylvania 16003-3014.

Gladys Irene McCormick

October 12, 1917 - December 16, 2006

Gladys Irene McCormick, age 89 of Meridian, Butler, Pennsylvania, died suddenly on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 11:45 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. McCormick was recently preceded in death by her husband, Alfred B. "Buss" McCormick who died Tuesday December 12, 2006 at U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born October 12, 1917 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Samuel Irvin Whitmire and the late Effie VanGorder.

Mrs. McCormick retired in 1980 from the family owned business, McCormick's Market, an independent grocery business she and her late husband began in Brownsdale in 1945. She enjoyed meeting new neighbors in the market. Mrs. McCormick knew all the customers and their children by name. Prior to working at McCormick's market she worked in the dietary department at Butler Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her husband and family. She loved family gatherings, family vacations, bus tours and playing cards. In retirement Mrs. McCormick hosted many family milestone parties, graduations, and birthdays. She was an excellant example to all who knew her and she will be truly missed.

Mrs. McCormick is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Joyce) Temple of Butler, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren, Mrs. Matthew (Malinda) Krchnak of Ford City, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Scott (Kim) Emricko of Sarver, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Robert (Deborah) Brestensky of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Steven (Rhonda) Gifford of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; and Mr. and Mrs. Timothy (Cheryl) Temple, II of Butler, Pennsylvania; seven great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Connie E. McCormick and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by a son Ronald McCormick.

Visitation for Gladys and Alfred McCormick will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, December 18, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services for Gladys and Alfred McCormick will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday December 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Lisa Grant of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Community Methodist Church, 205 North Duffy Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Alfred B. "Buss" McCormick

September 29, 1911 - December 12, 2006

Alfred B. "Buss" McCormick, age 95 of Meridian, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 11:15 a.m. in U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital.

Born September 29, 1911 in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Albert Francis McCormick and the late Sylvia Mae Reimer.

Mr. McCormick retired in 1985 from McCormick's Market, an independent grocery business he and his wife began in Brownsdale in 1945. Previously, he had worked at Franklin Glass and as an independent painting contractor. Before moving to Pennsylvania in the 1920's, Mr. McCormick had lived in Ventura, California and often spoke of how much he enjoyed living there. He was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. He was devoted to his wife, Gladys, and to her interests. He was especially proud of being involved in the original zoning plans for Penn Township, Butler. He was an honest, dependable, conscientious man who was often sought out for his advice. He loved his wife, family, friends, and the challenge of independent business. In retirement, he enjoyed home and garden maintenance and having friends in to visit. Recently, he has been a compassionate caregiver to his wife, Gladys, when she needed help. He was an excellent example to all who knew him and he will be truly missed.

Mr. McCormick is survived by his wife, Gladys Whitmire McCormick whom he marriage on June 6, 1936, one daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Joyce) Temple of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Mrs. Matthew (Malinda) Krchnak of Ford City, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Scott (Kim) Emricko of Sarver, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Robert (Deborah) Brestensky of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Steven (Rhonda) Gifford of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy (Cheryl) Temple, II of Butler, Pennsylvania; seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Lisa Grant of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers; memorial donations may be made to Christ Community Methodist Church, 205 North Duffy Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

George A. Patten

July 30, 1920 - December 11, 2006

George A. Patten, age 86 of Sunnyview Home, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Wiltshire Avenue died Monday, December 11, 2006 at 9:37 p.m. in the Sunnyview Home.

Born July 30, 1920 in Oakland Township, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Harrison (Harry) H. Patten and the late Hazel Bowers Patten.

Mr. Patten was a rigger for Armco Steel, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church where he was a former elder. Mr. Patten was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a sergeant during WW II in Tinian. He was a member of the Esquire Club, Century Club and the VFW Post #249. Mr. Patten was a charter member of the Armco Golf Club.

Mr. Patten is survived by one daughter and her husband, Sharon and Jack Montag of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son and his wife, George A. "Bud" and Linda Patten, II of North Canton, Ohio; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Patten was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Collins Patten who passed away on November 3, 2006 and also by two sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, December 14, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Hill United Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverends Clark Sawyer and John Porter officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made to Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the donor's favorite charity.

Ella C. Rippee

December 25, 1931 - December 11, 2006

Ella C. Rippee, age 74 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at 2:50 p.m. in the Sunnyview Home.

Born December 25, 1931 in Buttonwood, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Elmer Dudeck and the late Julia Polifka Dudeck.

Mrs. Rippee was an office manager for Rippee's C.B. Radio Sales for 20 years. She handled the purchasing, merchandising and scheduling of service calls. Mrs. Rippee was a member of St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Mrs. Rippee is survived by her husband, John Rippee whom she marriage on October 17, 1953, and by a sister, Mrs. Millie Hudock of Pocono, Pennsylvania; and two nieces and three nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, December 14, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Parastas Service will take place from the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Liturgy will be held at the St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Douglas J. Lorance of St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion, Butler County Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made to St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund, 610 Hanson Avenue, Lyndora, Pennsylvania 16045.

Betty Sheakley

May 29, 1923 - December 11, 2006

Betty Sheakley, age 83 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. in Concordia Lutheran Care.

Born May 29, 1923 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late John Eugene Hughes and the late Pearl Nellie Stokes.

Mrs. Sheakley was a homemaker. She was a 50-year member of Nixon United Methodist Church, where she also taught Sunday School. Mrs. Sheakley was a life member of the Oak Hills Garden Club. She enjoyed bird watching and cooking.

Mrs. Sheakley is survived by one daughter and her husband, Beverly and Russell Bachman of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son, Allen E. Sheakley of Butler, Pennsylvania; two grandsons and their wives, R. Eric and Cindy Bachman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, J. Mark and Lesley Bachman of Butler, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Olive Grace Wygant of Franklin, Pennsylvania, Blanche L. Mitchell and her husband James of Genessee, Pennsylvania and also of Lake Wales, Florida; one brother and his wife, Carl Dale and Barb Hughes of Butler, Pennsylvania; six nephews and three nieces, and also by numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sheakley was preceded in death by her husband, Allen D. Sheakley who passed away on December 22, 1986 and also by one brother, Donald J. Hughes.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the Nixon United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Bruce Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be made to Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16002.
