John Ralph Broad

July 28, 1927 - February 5, 2007

John Ralph Broad, age 79 of East Brewster Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, February 5, 2007 at 12:37 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 28, 1927 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late William T. Broad and the late Bessie A. Lingerman Broad.

Mr. Broad was a welder/supervisor for Pullman Standard, Inc., retiring when the plant closed in 1981. He also owned and operated the family business, "Pat's Auto Sales". He was a past member of Butler Baptist Temple. He enjoyed gardening, buying and selling, reading, playing Sequence and his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He cherished personal relationships and greatly appreciated the love and support from family, friends and Pastor Dave over the past month. He served in the Coast Guard/Merchant Marine serving as a fireman/oiler on the vessel "Gulf of Venezuela" during WW II.

Mr. Broad is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Broad whom he marriage on May 14, 1949, by one son and his wife, John and Sharla Broad, one daughter, Marjorie E. Broad; one daughter-in-law, Dianne Broad all of Butler, Pennsylvania; Four grandchildren, Christen A. Broad, Emily N. Broad, J.T. Broad, Joshua R. Broad; one brother and his wife, William H. and Della M. Broad of Butler, Pennsylvania; by a number of nieces and nephews, and by a number of great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Broad was preceded in death by one son, Thomas E. Broad.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Funeral home on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David Maitland of First Baptist Church officiating. Private burial will be held at the families convenience

Walter "Buck" William Melik

January 23, 1972 - February 4, 2007

Walter "Buck" William Melik, II, age 35 of 228 Morton Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 7:04 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 23, 1972 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of William Earl Okeson and Alice Jean Schmidt Okeson.

Mr. Melik, II was a machinist for Penn United Technology and also worked at Natili's Restaurant at Main and Wayne in Butler.

Mr. Melik is survived by his wife, Ginny L. Lawhead Melik and whom he marriage on September 15, 2001, a son, Obanyon W. Melik of Butler, Pennsylvania; a step-daughter, Heather N. Fricke of Freeport, Illinois; a step-son, Michael J. Fricke, II of Freeport, Illinois; his parents, William Earl and Alice Jean Okeson of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; two sisters and their husbands, Diane Alice and Jason Scholtz of Butler, Pennsylvania, Della Mae and Tim Ament of Freeport, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Ronald Anthony Melik of Argyle, Texas, Anthony John and Amanda Melik of West Kittanning, Pennsylvania, Jason Ross and Paula Melik of Butler, Pennsylvania; his grandparents, William and Eva Schmidt of Butler, Pennsylvania; by his grandfather, Anthony John Melik of Boone Grove, Indiana, by one step-sister, Tammy Albright of Butler, Pennsylvania and by one step-brother, William Okeson, West Palm Beach, Florida.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Elizabeth Jane Graves

February 25, 1923 - February 3, 2007

Elizabeth Jane Graves, age 83 of Pittsburgh Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 5:20 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born February 25, 1923 in Cabot, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Dietrich and the late Frances Walters Dietrich.

Mrs. Graves was a homemaker for most of her life but for several years had been employed in the dietary department of Butler Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Covenant United Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Graves is survived by one daughter, Nancy Jane Graves of Butler, Pennsylania with whom she made her home and also by many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Graves was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Graves on June 29, 1961 and by one brother and one sister.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, February 5, 2007 from and 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. James E. Swanson of Covenant United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Summit U. P. Church Cemetery.

Arlene Petrosky

February 18, 1947 - February 2, 2007

Arlene Jean Blakely Richey Petrosky, 133 Green Lane, West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, age 59, born February 18, 1947 to Robert and Christine Maria Aloise Blakely, died on February 2, 2007 at approximately 3:45 p.m. at her residence.

She is survived by her husband M. Allan Petrosky, her sons, Robert D. Richey and Mark B. Richey, Captain, USAF; grandchildren: Lauren, Justin and Kaitlyn Richey, sister and brother-in-law, Janetta Blakely Holden and Robert Holden, sister Roberta Irwin, step-children: Aaron Petrosky and Megan Petrosky Rybak, step-granddaughter, Mika Petrosky, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Arlene was the owner and operator of the El Cabana Cigar Co. located at 145 North Main Street, Butler, Pennsylvania since November 2002. She served as the president of the New Downtown Butler Association of Business and Merchants; she was a member of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, the Butler County Chamber of Commerce and various other organizations. In the past she served on the Administrative Council of the Nixon First United Methodist Church. She retired after 21 years with the Federal Government, 15 of which were with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, and the Butler VA, where she worked with the clergy.

Arlene extends her heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, customers and business friends, neighbors, all of the dear friends from Wilmerding Memorial High School, church and prayer groups, for all of the prayers and kindness extended to her and her family. Donations may be sent, In Memory of Arlene B. R. Petrosky, to the City of Butler Downtown Revitalization.

Visiting for family and friends will be at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, Christian Cremation Burial, on Friday, February 9, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friends and Family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at her residence, 133 Green Lane, West Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

Connie M. (Dietrich) Tagg

December 26, 1945 - February 2, 2007

Connie M. (Dietrich) Tagg, age 61 of Bluegrass Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 2, 2007 at 4:24 a.m. from Butler Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Born December 26, 1945 in Butler, PA. She was the daughter of Leonard L. Dietrich and Margaret Alice Huselton.

Mrs. Tagg was a library aide for South Butler County School District (Knoch Middle School) with 15 years of service. She was a former member of her church choir and a former charter member Kathryn Kuhlman Concert Choir. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Tagg is survived by her husband, Gary F. Tagg whom she marriage on March 27, 1965, and by two daughters, Tracy L. and her husband David Stevenson of Butler, Pennsylvania, Jody L. and her husband Chip Kohser of Monaca, Pennsylvania; by two grandchildren Tristen Stevenson, Tori Stevenson both of Butler, Pennsylvania, her mother, Margaret A. Dietrich of Mars, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mrs. William (Dorothea) Kraustok of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. William (Beverly) Watkiss of Dayton, Tennessee; three Brothers, Leonard L. Dietrich of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Charles and his wife Mary Jane Dietrich of Butler, Pennsylvania, Donald and his wife Nancy Dietrich of Valencia, Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, February 4, 2007 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Services will be held at the Community Alliance Church on Monday, February 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Krajacic of Community Alliance Church officiating. Interment will follow in Summit U. P. Church Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Butler Area Public Library, 218 North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001, or to Community Alliance Church Library, 800 Mercer Road Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Janet B. Mamula

April 19, 1951 - February 25, 2007

Janet B. Mamula, age 55 of Oberlin Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 3:15 p.m. in the U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born April 19, 1951 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of William Schedadt and the late Mary Darcy Schedadt.

Mrs. Mamula was a homemaker and had previously been a secretary for R.B. Shannon and Associates. She was a member of St. Andrew's Orthodox Church.

Mrs. Mamula is survived by her husband, Michael D. Mamula whom she marriage on July 25, 1970, by one son, Barry H. Mamula of Butler, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Mrs. Bradley (Tanya) Kriley of Butler, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Timber and Ryder Kriley, and Dylan Mamula, her father, William Schedadt; brother, William Schedadt of Castle Shannon, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Marsha Susnjar and Brother-In-law George Susnjar of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania; brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Melissa Mamula of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania; and by three nieces and three nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on February 28, 2007 Wednesday from 2:00 & 5:00 P.M. & 7:00 & 9:00 P.M.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on March 1, 2007 Thursday at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Father Joseph Wargo of St. Andrew Orthodox Church officiating.

Contributions may be made in Memory of Janet to The National Transplant Assistance Fund, 150 North Radnor Chester Rd. suite F-120 Radnor, PA 19087.

Ray B. Cumberland

June 22, 1915 - February 27, 2007

Ray B. Cumberland, age 91 of Alameda Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 6:30 a.m. in the Butler V A Medical Center.

Born June 22, 1915 in Concord Township, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late E. U. Cumberland and the late Anna Thompson Cumberland.

Mr. Cumberland was an owner/operator for P. and R. Trucking Company. He also was a minister, preaching at Calvary Baptist, Mt. Zion Baptist and Whitestown Road Baptist Church. Mr. Cumberland was a member of Hannahstown Road Baptist Church, Cabot, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II.

Mr. Cumberland is survived by four sons and their wives, Marshall and Connie Cumberland of Van Burren, Ohio, Garry and Evelyn Cumberland of Butler, Pennsylvania, Terry and Nancy Cumberland of Kingwood, West Virginia, Mark and Cindy Cumberland of Chicora, Pennsylvania; five daughters, Janet Lepley of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. James (Dianna) Hortert of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. David (Sharron) Pengryh of Butler, Pennsylvania, Raylene Bachman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Robin Cumberland of Butler, Pennsylvania; thirty-six grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, eighteen great-great-grandchildren, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cumberland was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline E. Stevenson Cumberland who passed away on October 16, 1998, by one grandson, one sister and six brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 1, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Whitestown Road Baptist Church, 409 Whitestown Road, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Terry Cumberland of Independent Baptist Church of Kingwood, Kingwood, West Virginia and Reverend Mark Wagner of Hannahstown Road Baptist Church, Cabot, Pennsylvania officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
