Joyce A. Carpenter, age 56 of Pine Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at 7:30 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born November 14, 1950 in Martinsburg, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Joseph Keyton and the late Dolores Anderson.
Mrs. Carpenter was a LPN working in the Dialysis and Trauma Unit in Norfolk, Virginia. She was also a licensed beautician. Mrs. Carpenter attended St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Butler Chapter #45, Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her husband, John E. Carpenter, whom she marriage on February 14, 1980, by one daughter, Audra Keyton of Fairchance, Pennsylvania; one son, Stephen Montgomery of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by seven grandchildren.
A Blessing Service will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with The Reverend Harry R. Beilewicz of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church officiating.
Tillie Claypoole Powell
February 16, 1915 - March 17, 2007
Tillie Claypoole Powell, age 92 of Powell Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 5:25 a.m. at her home.
Born February 16, 1915 in Worthington, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Alex Claypoole and the late Laura Bowser.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker. She was a member of Middlesex Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Powell is survived by one son, Donald L. Powell of Butler, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Glenna Carson of Dillard, Georgia; two grandsons, one great-grandson and one-great-grand-daughter; one sister, Hilda Arner of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; also surviving are Bud Shankle of Worthington, Pennsylvania and Harry and Ann Watt of Brookville, Pennsylvania, who were considered brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, Laurell J. Powell whom she marriage on April 10, 1935 and who passed away on February 6, 2004 and also by two sisters and five brothers.
A Memorial service will be held at the Middlesex Presbyterian Church on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Kevin M. Bowen of Middlesex Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Middlesex Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Middlesex Presbyterian Church in America, 116 Church Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16002.
Peter A. "Pete" Bauer
April 18, 1919 - March 17, 2007
Peter A. "Pete" Bauer" passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Hospice of Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, Florida.
He was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on April 18, 1919 and moved to Lake Worth, Florida in 1956.
Pete was a WW II veteran having served in the U.S. Army from March 194 to July 1945. He saw battle action in Normandy, France, Belgium and Germany.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth; two daughters Kathleen, and Sue Ellen; and the "apple of his eye", his granddaughter Kelli. He is also survived by his sister Mary Anderson of Butler, Pennsylvania and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Carolyn in July of 2005.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, March 23 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North Street, Butler Pennsylvania 16001. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates. Member of VFW Post 249 will conduct military honors at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Pete's name to the Hospice of Palm Beach County, the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit, 5300 East Ave, West Palm Beach, Florida 33407.
Don Joseph Bowers

Don Joseph Bowers, age 76 of West McQuistion Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 5:00 a.m. in the Sunnyview Home.
Born April 15, 1930 in Windber, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Joseph Otto Bowers and the late Nellie May Moore Bowers.
Mr.. Bowers was a chemist technician for United States Steel in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Victory Lodge #694 F. & A.M and the American Legion Post #117 Butler, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife, Emma Jane Huffman Bowers whom he marriage on January 1, 1953, by one son, Bradley W. Bowers of Charleston, West Virginia; two daughters, Kathryn N. Mitchell of Butler, Pennsylvania, Wendy A. McWilliams of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five Nieces and four nephews.
Mr. Bowers was preceded in death by one son, Joseph D. Bowers, one brother Charles L. Bowers, two sisters, Irene E. Davies and Dorothy Costlow.
A Memorial Services for Don Joseph Bowers will be held on Friday, March 23, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. from the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania with his nephew the Reverend Timothy A. Farkas pastor of the Somerset Assembly of God Church, Somerset, Pennsylvania officiating.

Paul E. Wigton
May 32, 1932 - March 16, 2007
Paul E. Wigton, age 74of Sugar Creek Rest Home formerly of North Road Franklin Township, Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 10:05 a.m. in the Sugarcreek Rest Home.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on May 16, 1932 he was the son of the late Clyde Oris Wigton and Edelle Thompson Wigton.
Mr. Wigton was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the military police in Japan during WW II. After the service he worked for Louis Ziegel's Garage as a mechanic as well as driving steel truck. Following this he worked at Pullman Standard until the plant closed. Mr. Wigton retired as a mechanic for the Butler Area School District. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Wigton was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Joseph T. Black Post # 249, the American Legion, Post #117 Butler, the Moose Lodge of Chicora and the Prospect Men's Club. He enjoyed repairing clocks, hunting, farming and gardening. He and his late wife operated Paul's Produce where they grew and sold vegetables.
He was marriage to Ruth M. Snodgrass Herman on June 29, 1986 she preceded him in death on September 30, 2001.
Mr. Wigton is survived by one-stepson Robert N. Herman of Butler, Pennsylvania, one stepdaughter Patricia M. Barnes of Meridian, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren, one great grandchild. And by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family of Paul Wigton will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Sunday, March 18, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to9 p.m.
Funeral services will be from the funeral home on Monday, March 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Wigton family farm Cemetery.
Richard "Dick" Rodgers
February 19, 1930 - March 14, 2007
Richard "Dick” Rodgers, age 77 of West Penn Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at his residence.
Born February 19, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Donald James Rodgers, Sr. and the late Maude Parker.
Mr. Rodgers was a sales manager for Montgomery Wards retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Rodgers was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #272 F. & A.M. Mr. Rodgers enjoyed his family, fishing and traveling.
Mr. Rodgers is survived by his wife, Helen Pauline Stevenson Rodgers whom he marriage on August 29, 1959, by two sons, John Rodgers of Chandler, Arizona, Dennis Rodgers of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers, Wayne Rodgers of Fort Myers, Florida, Jack Myers of Eustis, Florida and also by two nieces and three nephews.
Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 17, 2007 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Merry H. Meloy of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Reverend Larry A. Swidzinski
March 22, 1950 - March 12, 2007
Larry A. Swidzinski, age 56 of Bonniebrook Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, March 12, 2007 at 4:35 p.m. at his home following a 37-year battle with cancer.
Born March 22, 1950 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of Betty Yost Swidzinski and the late Albert Swidzinski.
Reverend Swidzinski graduated from Capital University and Trinity Lutheran Seminary, both in Columbus, Ohio. Following his graduation from Trinity, he was called to Taylor, Texas where for nine years; he served as pastor at Prince of Peace and Immanuel Lutheran Churches. In 1985 he was called as pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Taylorsville, North Carolina, where he served as pastor for more than 16 years until 2001. He returned to Butler, Pennsylvania and did interim ministry at First Lutheran Church in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania until 2006. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Reverend Swidzinski was always involved in community activities as a coach in recreational sports and in educational organization such as Parent-Teacher Organizations. He also was an avid gardener and was known for his sense of humor and his often displayed impish smile.
Reverend Swidzinski is survived by his wife, Carol King Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters and their husbands, Jami L. and Jeff Conaway of Sarver, Pennsylvania, Debi L. and Alex Giocondo of Butler, Pennsylvania; his mother, Mrs. Betty Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Gary Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania, Rodney Swidzinski and his wife Fran of Butler, Pennsylvania; two nephews, Corey and Tim Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Reverend Swidzinski was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Swidzinski who passed away in 1989 and by his father in 2001.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, March 15, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The family will also receive visitors from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, March 16th prior to the service at the church.
Services will be held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sarver, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Emery L. Barnett of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Gruenwald Cemetery.
