Betty Jane Shields Cadwallader, age 73 of Butler, passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, on February 15, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Clayton Otis Shields and Lena Gertrude Snyder Shields.
Mrs. Cadwallader was a homemaker, but was also employed in the past by Montgomery Wards, Jewelry department and by Darlyn Casuals Clothing Store. She loved spending the summer months at her camp. She also enjoyed gardening, collecting dolls and caring for her beloved dog "Lady".
Mrs. Cadwallader was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church in Butler.
Mrs. Cadwallader is survived by her husband of 56 years, Corwyn Keith Cadwallader, of Butler; by four daughters, Sandra L. Doerr and her husband Donald D. Doerr, Jr., Esquire of Bay Minette, Alabama; Sharon K. Abel and her husband Charles H. Abel, Jr.; Susan E. Cadwallader both of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Sally A. John and her husband David G. John of Glen Burnie, Maryland; by nine grandchildren, Stacey (James) Bowen, Bryan (Lea) Slaughenhoupt, Timothy (Jamie) Doerr, Clayton Abel, Benjamin Abel, Catherine Abel, Stephen Koch, Amy Kredel, and Melissa Koch; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Benko, Michael Bowen, Sophia and Emma Slaughenhoupt, Timothy Doerr, Jr., Aaron Jacob Abel, and Alexander Joseph Kredel.
Mrs. Cadwallader was the sister of John Shields of East Butler, Mrs. Dorothy Gallaher of Butler, Mrs. Walter (Mary) Sarvey of Prospect, Mrs. Earl (Gert) Sarvey of Meridian, and Mrs. Claude ("Joey") Filges of Butler. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Mrs. Cadwallader was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael P. Campbell, pastor of the Weirton Heights Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1027 Evans City Road, Renfrew, Pennsylvania 16053.
Elizabeth Jean Youkers

Elizabeth Jean Youkers, age 84 of Sunnyview Nursing Home, formerly of Victor Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10:03 a.m. in the Sunnyview Home.
Born July 25, 1923 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late John Banford Bowser and the late Margaret Finnell.
Mrs. Youkers was a homemaker. She was an avid card player, a huge bingo player, mostly playing at Highfield Hall. She also enjoyed going to the casinos and playing the slots.
Mrs. Youkers is survived by one son, Ralph Youkers, two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Linda Jean) Shanor and Mrs. Dean (Margaret Ann) Slagle all of Butler, Pennsylvania; by twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Youkers was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Charles Youkers who passed away on June 7, 1996 and by one son Larry Albert Youkers, two brothers and one sister.
Private services were held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. with Reverend Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Dolores M. McDonald
Passed away on July 12, 2008
Dolores M. McDonald, of Artlee Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 3:53 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late John H. McDowell and the late Helen Gibson.
Mrs. McDonald was a homemaker and a teacher at Bon-Aire Elementary School. She was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the Slippery Rock State Teachers College now known as Slippery Rock University. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the P.S.E.A., the N.E.A., the PA Association for Gifted Education, the Tuesday Musical Club, the Business and Professional Club, the A.A.R.P. and Friends of the Library. Mrs. McDonald was active in many church choirs and vocal ensembles.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by her husband, Harold C. "Bus" McDonald whom she marriage on June 30, 1956, by one daughter, Rebecca S. McDonald of Manning, Iowa; one brother, John G. (Jack) McDowell of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Howard Burrell of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion, Butler County Memorial Park.

Martha Pengelly Hiack Clem
August 3, 1925 - July 12, 2008
Martha Pengelly Hiack Clem, age, 82, formerly of New Castle Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at 11:48 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Hospice of Wexford in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
Born in Mt. Carmey, Pennsylvania on August 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the Reverend Frank and Helena Bessie Pengelly Hiack. She came to Butler at the age of two, when her father became pastor of Bethany Reformed Church (later United Church of Christ).
Mrs. Clem served on the news staff of the Butler Eagle for 43 years (May 1947-May 1990), as arts editor, obituary editor, librarian, and secretary to editors and publishers, the late John L. Wise, Sr. and John L. Wise, Jr.
She was a lifelong member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Butler, Pennsylvania, when Bethany merged with St. Paul's United Church of Christ, became a member of the resulting Faith Reformed Church. She was a member of the Women's Commission of Butler Interfaith Fellowship, and had at one time been Bethany's representative to the Fellowship.
Mrs. Clem was a member of the GFWC Woman's Club of Butler, which she had served as secretary from 1990 to 1998; and the Butler Eagle Retirees. She had been a volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Drives, and the Butler Community Table at Faith Church. She had formerly sung with several area choirs, most recently, the Meridian Community Choir.
She had served on Butler Little Theatre Harlequin Awards Committee, and had received its Board of Directors Award in 1978 and 1990.
Upon her retirement, she was named honorary member of the Associated Artists of Butler County, and an honorary Life Member of the Butler Little Theater Guild.
She was a former board member of the Butler County Symphony Association and of the Lending Hands group of the Butler County Community College Library. A former member of the International Music Critics Association, based in Washington D.C., she had served a term on its board of directors.
She had chaired the 1974 After Prom Committee at Butler High School, the first woman to be sole chairman of the event.
Graduated from Butler High School in 1942 and Grove City College in 1946, she took additional courses at Syracuse University and in Butler High School and Butler County Community College Adult Education programs.
She is survived by one son, John Clem and his wife, Wendy, of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters Christie and Lisa Clem; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Carey of Johnstown, New York; a brother, Dr. Paul S. Hiack of Levittown, Pennsylvania; one niece, four nephews, five grandnieces and one grand nephew and by a number of cousins.
One sister preceded her in death.
Friends and family of Martha Clem will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. with the Reverend James Bertotti, pastor of St. Peter's Reformed Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the North Side Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to The Building Fund of St. Peter's Reformed Church, 320 East Grandview Avenue, Zelienople, Pennsylvania 16063.
Helen Marie Hoover
April 8, 1920 - July 11, 2008
Helen Marie Hoover, a direct descendent of Captain John McCollough and William S. and Hannah McCollough, age 88, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, Pennsylvania, formerly of Milheim Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, and R.D. #1 Chicora, Pennsylvania, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at 4:11 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.
Born April 8, 1920 in Chicora, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Herbert (Herb) and Loretta Callihan McCollough.
Mrs. Hoover 's employment included the Butler County Agricultural Agency, the former Jay Shoppe in Butler and also managed her own sales consultants for Fashion Two Twenty Cosmetics in Butler. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Chicora, Pennsylvania. As a member of the Butler Memorial Hospital's Ladies Auxiliary she volunteered as the jewelry buyer for the Cherry Tree Gift Shop. Her love of music was expressed as a member of the Pedal Pushers Club.
Ms. Hoover is survived by one son, David Herbert (Herb) Frazer of Chicora, Pennsylvania; four daughters, Marjorie Sherwin Broderick and her husband, Tom, of Forest Hills, Pennsylvania, Mary Phaneuf and her husband, Richard, of Sarasota, Florida, Carol L. Frazer of Carnegie, Pennsylvania, and Susan Matthews and her husband, Terry, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, one sister, Jean R. Dornon of the Passavant Retirement Village, Zelienople, Pennsylvania and by one niece, one nephew, and one great nephew.
Ms. Hoover was preceded in death by one brother, Charles (Chuck) R. McCollough and two grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 4 to 9.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jack Hartman, Chaplain of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillview Cemetery in Chicora, Pennsylvania.
Helen established The F. H. McCollough and Helen M. McCollough Clinical Opthalmology Research Fund, UPMC Health System Department of Development, 200 Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15213-2582. The family requests contributions to this fund be considered as an option to flowers.
