Mary Catherine Gillis, age 53 of Evans City Road, Evans City, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 6:05 a.m. at her residence of complications following a long courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Born October 5, 1955 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Emmett "Bud" Mentch and the late Charlotte "Dolly" Pryor Mentch Smith.
Mrs. Gillis was a Secretary for Universal Manufacturing in Zelienople. She had also worked at Butler Urgent Care as a receptionist before her illness. Mrs. Gillis was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Evans City. At one time she was a Sunday School Teacher, the church treasurer, choir member and served on the church consistory. She enjoyed her family, playing cards, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and reading.
Mrs. Gillis is survived by her husband, Ronald G. Gillis whom she marriage on October 23, 1976, by two daughters, Katie Lynn Gillis, Dana Marie Gillis both of Evans City, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Mrs. David (Judy) Miller, Mrs. Steven (Lorraine) Berresford, Mrs. Mark (Susan) Kristophel all of Renfrew, Pennsylvania, and by two nieces and eight nephews.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, October 31, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the St. John's United Church of Christ, Evans City on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Verna Call of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Janet R. Westerman
May 11, 1917 - October 23, 2008
Janet R. Westerman, age 91 formerly of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 3:50 p.m. at Brady View Manor in East Brady, Pennsylvania.
Born May 11, 1917, in East Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Blair L. Roudybush and the late Esther Kison Roudybush.
Mrs. Westerman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Butler, Pennsylvania. She was a secretary for her husband, Blair Westerman, who was a tax consultant in Butler, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Westerman received her teaching certificate from Slippery Rock State Norman School, now Slippery Rock University. In her early years Mrs. Westerman was a fifth grade teacher at Winfield Township Elementary School for eleven years. She was a former member of the Lion's Club Auxiliary, a former member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Westerman was a member of the Butler Chapter # 45 Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Westerman is survived by one daughter Mrs. Blaine (Carol) Frederick. Two grandchildren Tammy and her husband Chris Schweikert of Butler, Pennsylvania, Todd and his wife Kathy Frederick of East Brady, Pennsylvania also survived by two great granddaughters and two great grandsons and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Westerman was preceded in death by husband Blair E. Westerman on February 8, 1999, one grandson Terry Frederick, one brother, and three sisters.
Friends and family of Mrs. Janet Westerman will be received at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, 16001 on Saturday October 25, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be from the funeral home on Sunday October 26, 2008 at 1:00 with Pastor David Maitland officiating. Interment will follow in the Butler County Memorial Park.
Neal G. "Tiny" Arnold
June 26, 1925 - October 22, 2008
Neal G. (Tiny) Arnold, age 83 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 9:44 p.m. in the Butler V A Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1925 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late George A. Arnold and the late Sara Arnold.
Mr. Arnold worked in the paint shop for Pullman Standard, and had operated Arnold's Meat Shop. He was a member of St. Wendlins Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Arnold served in the National Guard from 1946 to 1950, then was a veteran in the U.S. Army, serving from 1950 to 1952. Mr. Arnold was a member of the Happy Hunter's Sportsman Club in Fenelton.
Mr. Arnold is survived by his son, George J. Arnold of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his sister, Patty DeLuke of Florida; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Irene V. Hilliard Arnold who passed away on July 14, 2001 and also by three sisters.

David L. Buffington
July 26, 1957 - October 20, 2008
David L. Buffington, age 51 of Olean, New York, formerly of Butler died Monday, October 20, 2008 at Buffalo General Hospital.
Born Friday, July 26, 1957 he was the son of the late Donald L. Buffington and Maxine A. Patten Buffington.
Mr. Buffington was a Department Manager for Wal-Mart. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church. Mr. Buffington was a graduate of Butler High School, class of 1975 and a graduate of Thiel College, class of 1979. He enjoyed sports, history, and music and was a coach to his three sons in various sports activities.
Mr. Buffington is survived by his mother, Maxine A. Buffington of Butler; three sons, Tyler L. Buffington, Taylor J. Buffington, and Tucker S. Buffington all of Olean, New York; by two brothers, Bruce D. Buffington of Thornton, Colorado, and Dennis P. Buffington of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania; by two sisters Julie L. Buffington, and Joni G. Rusnak both of Butler, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, two nieces and two nephews.
Mr. Buffington was preceded in death by his father.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Members of the St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Alice C. Phipps, age 71 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, October 17, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born December 6, 1936 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Earl Eppinger and the late Mary Kiley Eppinger.
Mrs. Phipps was a homemaker.
Mrs. Phipps is survived by her three daughters, Judy and her husband Robert Walker of Cabot, Pennsylvania, Cathy and her husband Kenneth Geibel of Butler, Pennsylvania, Tracey Kelley of Butler, Pennsylvania; two sons, David (Butch) Phipps of Butler, Pennsylvania, Timothy Phipps and his wife Jan of Prospect, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren, number of great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert Eppinger and his wife Betty Lou of Butler, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Phipps was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Phipps who passed away on January 25, 1986 and also by four brothers.

Edith Louise Groves, age 90 died October 17, 2008 formerly of Wagner Avenue of Butler and the Chicora Medical Center.
Born Saturday, April 13, 1918 in Emelenton she was the daughter of the late William Crispin and the late Mary Summerville.
Mrs. Groves was a Homemaker. Mrs. Groves was a Protestant by faith.
Mrs. Groves is survived one daughter, Mrs Pauline and husband Carl Hays of East Butler; one son, Richard and wife Nancy Groves of Chicora; on daughter-in-law Mrs. Sophia Groves of New Castle a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren and a number of nieces nephews.
Mrs. Groves was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Groves, four brothers, seven sisters, and two sons.

William C. "Bill" Gould

William C. "Bill" Gould, age 66 of Bedford, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, October 16, 2008 at UPMC Shadyside.
Born October 12, 1942 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of Mary E. Stephenson Gould and the late William C. Gould.
Mr. Gould worked for Sprint/Embarq in Butler, Charlottesville, Virginia and in Bedford, Pennsylvania, retiring in June of 1995. He was a member Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford. He served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Colorado. Mr. Gould was a member of the IBO- International Bow Hunters Organization, CSS- Staff Shooter, the Horton Staff Shooters, the Zenith Releases Staff Shooters, the Tru Ball Staff Shooters, and Freedom Archery. Mr. Gould enjoyed archery competitions and hunting.
Mr. Gould is survived by his wife, Vicky A. Gould of Bedford, whom he marriage on August 22, 1980, by two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Robert Einstein of East Butler, Susan and Keith Nagle of Butler; one son, William Brian Gould of Clinton, Michigan; six grandchildren, by two step-sons and their wives, Joseph J. and Lori Huff of Slippery Rock, Kenneth L. and Michelle Huff of Butler, three step-grandchildren, his sister Mrs. William (Shirley) Piper of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida; his brother, John A. Gould of Nottingham, Pennsylvania, by his aunt, Marilyn Stephenson of Butler, Pennsylvania; one niece and four nephews.
