Lillian M. Shearer, age 89 of Alameda Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at her residence.
Born May 29, 1919 in Brent, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late John D. Stewart and the late Maud Crawford.
Mrs. Shearer was a homemaker. She graduated from Butler High School, class of 1938.
Mrs. Shearer is survived by her husband, LeRoy A. Shearer whom she marriage on August 9, 1940, by one son, Jeffrey L. Shearer of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Linda Shearer Cahalan of Park City, Utah, Sandra Stevenson of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; and by one grandchild, Lindsey Stevenson.
Mrs. Shearer was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
There will be no visitation and private services will be held by the family. Interment was in the Rosehill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania

Richard M. Rau
December 14, 1928 - December 9, 2008
Richard M. Rau, age 79, of Oak Ridge Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 12:55 p.m. in St. Johns Specialty Care Center in Mars, Pennsylvania.
He was born December 14, 1928 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to the late Paul Rau and the late Lillie (Gomber) Rau.
Mr. Rau came to the Butler Eagle as a reporter and wire editor in 1962 until he retired in 1994. He received his journalism degree from Penn State. Mr. Rau was a member of North Main Street Church of God where he was on the board of directors, taught Sunday school, served on many committees and was the church photographer. He was a committed husband and father and his family most admires his integrity. Mr. Rau was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne of the United States Army and served with the occupation forces in Japan.
Mr. Rau is survived by his wife Anna Belle (Hays) whom he marriage on July 9 1960, one son Brian Hays Rau and his wife, Nanette, of Butler, Pennsylvania; one daughter Mrs. John (Melinda S.) Ripper of Butler, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Kayla and Alyssa; three grandsons Brandon, Nicholas and Andrew, one sister Doris Rickers of Chardon, Ohio; and one niece and three nephews.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, December 12, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday December 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Kenneth C. Hall and Reverend David Brown. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Margaret "Margie" Neyman
November 29, 1913 - December 9, 2008
Margaret "Margie" (Oesterling) Neyman, 95, died December 9, 2008 at 4:39 p.m. at the home of her daughter in Butler, a Century Farm homestead, which has been in the Oesterling family since the 1830s.
Born November 29, 1913 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James A. Oesterling and the late Elizabeth (Mueller) Oesterling.
Margaret was a life-long member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butler where she taught Sunday school for over twenty-five years and was very active as a volunteer. Margie and George were the sponsors of the St. Marks Evangelical Luther League youth program for nearly twenty years. She was also co-founder of Butler's Meals on Wheels program, where she served as the food coordinator for thirty-five years. She was in charge of the school cafeteria at Summit Township Elementary School for many years. Margie enjoyed gardening, golfing, dancing, traveling, and games and puzzles of all kinds.
Mrs. Neyman is survived by three children George and his wife, Margaret Neyman III, of Bolton, England; Gary and his wife, Nancy Neyman of Butler, Pennsylvania; Marilyn and her husband, Amato Prudente of Butler, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Neyman Jr., their son, Nelson, five brothers, five sisters, one of which was her twin, and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 West Jefferson Street on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Harold C. "Bus" McDonald

Harold C. "Bus" McDonald, age 78 of Alameda Road, Butler, formerly of Artlee Avenue, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at his residence.
Born March 23, 1930 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Richard E. Gilchrist and the late Thelma Milheim Gilchrist.
Mr. McDonald was a Slitterman for Armco Steel for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. Mr. McDonald was a member of the Butler Hunting and Fishing Club, the National Rifle Association and A.A.R.P.
Mr. McDonald is survived by his daughter, Rebecca S. McDonald of Manning, Iowa; one brother, Charles R. and his wife Judy McDonald of Butler, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Brown of Baldwinsville, New York; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores McDowell McDonald, whom he marriage on June 30, 1956 and who passed away on July 12, 2008. He was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend Howard Burrell of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion, Butler County Memorial Park.

Janet M. Dickey

Janet M. Dickey, age 82, formerly of South Highland Avenue, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 11:45 p.m. at Cranberry Place of UPMC Cranberry.
Born November 12, 1926 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John S. Graham and Anna C. (Kradel) Graham.
Mrs. Dickey was a member of Meridian United Presbyterian Church.
She was a homemaker. She was a former employee of Troutman's Department Store, Bantam Car Company, and T.W. Phillip's Gas and Oil Company as a switchboard operator.
She was a member of Queen Elizabeth Lodge of Rebekah's Lodge #463. She was a former member of the Meridian's Women club and of the Butler Hunting and Fishing Club. She was past president of Meridian P.T.A. and she was a Deaconess of the church.
Mrs. Dickey is survived by two daughters, Christine Gasparin of Forward Township, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Dennis (Nancy) Young of Oakland Township, Pennsylvania; two sons, Russell Dickey and R.J. Dickey and his wife, Robin, both of Butler, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Benjamin Gasparin, Megan Gasparin, Shannon Dickey, Forrest Dickey and by a number of nieces and nephew.
Mrs. Dickey was preceded in death by one brother.
There will be no public visitation. A private Funeral service will be held at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home at the convenience of the family. Reverend Jeffery A. Curtis, pastor of Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

George D. "Ebbie" Eberhardt

George D. "Ebbie" Eberhardt, age 84, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 4:10 p.m. at Sunnyview Home.
Born September 4, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Brandon Eberhardt and the late Virginia Yockey Eberhardt.
Mr. Eberhardt was a salesman for Burlington Industries, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora, Pennsylvania. Mr. Eberhardt graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute School of Mortuary Science in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mr. Eberhardt was a member of the #272 Butler Lodge F and AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, and the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the rank of corporal, serving during World Word II in the Europe Theater. Mr. Eberhardt was a member of the VFW Post #249, American Legion #778 of Lyndora, Butler Elks Lodge #170, NRA, and the AARP. Mr. Eberhardt was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America Butler Council #464. He enjoyed golf, baseball and woodworking.
Mr. Eberhardt is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Clossin Eberhardt, whom he marriage on April 12, 1947, by two sons, George Eberhardt, II and his wife, Cathy, of Louisville, Kentucky, Paul Eberhardt and his wife, Martha, of Wexford, Pennsylvania; by two grandsons, Keith Eberhardt and his wife, Catina, of Louisville, Kentucky and Kevin Eberhardt and his wife, Linda, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one granddaughter, Christy Runyan and her husband, Brian, of Louisville, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Kaden Eberhardt, Christian Eberhardt, Dylan Eberhardt, and Bradley James Eberhardt; and by three nieces and three nephews.
Mr. Eberhardt was preceded in death by one sister, one brother, and one nephew.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend George Palick officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Officers and members of #272 Butler Lodge F and A M will assemble at the funeral home to conduct a Masonic Service on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 6:45 p.m.

Jean P. DiMatteo

Jean Paton DiMatteo, age 89, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, December 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born July 13, 1919 in Bradford, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lloyd Paton and Arline VanCuren Paton Clayman.
Mrs. DiMatteo was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Butler, Pennsylvania.
She was the attendance secretary at Butler Area High School for 35 years and she retired in 1985. She was associated with the American Field Service, Butler County Educational Secretaries Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (Butler County Chapter), Armco Ladies Golf League, Lake Arthur Ladies Golf League, Armco Ladies Bowling League, Butler Hospital Auxiliary, St. Paul Catholic Church Greeter and various local bridge clubs. She lived life to the fullest and had many adventures while traveling and spending time with her family.
Mrs. DiMatteo is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. Linda Keddie and her husband, David, of North East, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Martha Kummer and her husband, Russell, of Butler, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Patricia Double and her husband, Thomas, of Dunn, North Carolina. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her sister, Mrs. Theda Young, of Bradford, Pennsylvania also survives, one niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis R. DiMatteo, who died March 6, 1992 and by her sister, Joan Webster.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
