Lester V. Smith, Sr., age 96, formerly of Cherokee Drive, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 8:55 a.m. at his residence in the Masonic Village at Sewickley in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
Born May 10, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lester Blare Smith and the late Pira Iva Faith Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Butler, Pennsylvania.
He was a division manager for West Penn Power Company in Butler, Pennsylvania, now known as Allegheny Power. He retired in 1977 after 43 years of service. He was a member of F & AM Lodge #562 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Butler Shrine Luncheon Club, and the SAR Christopher Gist of Butler, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Muskingum College in 1933.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Lester V. Smith, Jr. of Portland, Oregon and Douglas K. Smith and his wife, Gloria A., of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; his sister, Mrs. Helen Loucks of Morgantown, West Virginia and by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Kurtz) Smith, who was deceased May 21, 2005 and a daughter-in-law, Nadine Wooley Smith, who was deceased June 4, 2007.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 3, 2009 from 7 to 9 and Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 12 to 3 and 6 to 8.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park.

March 3, 1943 - December 31, 2008
Marsha K. McDonald, age 65, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11:11 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born March 3, 1943 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Paul Bernard Snyder and the late Mabel Caroline Cooper.
Mrs. McDonald worked as a secretary and clerk for American General Life Insurance, then, she was a secretary for Mayflower Movers and retired after 11 years employment for Wal-Mart.
She was a member of the YWCA. She enjoyed swimming, Christmas, being with her grandsons, boating, car cruises and trips to Illinois.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by her husband, Clifford W. McDonald who she marriage on November 16, 1963; one son, Matthew Sean and his wife, Denise (Bowen) McDonald of Fenelton, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Marcie Renee McDonald of Bloomington, Illinois; two grandsons, Nathaniel and Reid; one sister, Barbara Lee Lambermont of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Henry H. Twentier
November 23, 1936 - January 16, 2009
Henry H. Twentier, age 72, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, January 16, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born November 23, 1936 in Unionville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lawrence Twentier and the late Betra Grieder Twentier.
Mr. Twentier was employed at Penn Champ and retired in 1995. He was a lifetime member of East Butler Fire Department and the Lick Hill Fire Department.
Mr. Twentier is survived by his wife, Carol A. Davis Twentier, whom he marriage on June 18, 1988; two stepsons, Brian and his wife, Carol Cratty of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania and Greg and his wife, Michelle Cratty of Panama City, Florida; five step grandchildren; one brother, Chuck and his wife, Ruth Twentier of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Sara and her husband, Dean McFadden of Butler, Pennsylvania and his loving sister, June Twentier of Butler, Pennsylvania whom he made his home with before marriage, and by a number of nieces and nephews.
There will be no vistation or funeral services.

Edna Miller Carson
February 5, 1917 - January 16, 2009
Edna Miller Carson, age 91, of the Slippery Rock Personal Care Home, formerly of Boyd Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania passed away Friday, January 16, 2009 at 2:45 p.m. at the Slippery Rock Personal Care Home.
Born in Harmony, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Fred Greenert and Sarah Minteer Greenert. Edna was the beginning of five generations of the Miller Family.
Edna was a self-employed music teacher for thirty-three years and owned and operated the Miller Music Studio on Boyd Drive.
She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She marriage Clarence R. Miller who preceded her in death on January 18, 1986. Her second husband, Joseph M. Carson, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, C. John Miller of Fenelton, Pennsylvania and Kevin C. Miller of Butler, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Humphrey of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Harry L. (Patricia) Hovis of Chicora, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Darrel L. (Connie) LaMotte of Butler, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister Mildred Beneigh of East Butler, Pennsylvania; three step-children Thomas Edward Carson of Smithfield, Ohio, Dixie Carson Turner of New Alexandria, Virginia and Eleanor Carson Humes of Grayson, Kentucky and by a number of neices and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister.

Funeral Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Alden Towberman, pastor of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Homer K. Browne, Sr.

Homer Kenneth Browne, Sr., age 87 of Trinity Living Center, Grove City, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11:03 a.m. in the Trinity Living Center.
Born June 14, 1921 in Glen Richey, Pennsylvania Clearfield County he was the son of the late Harvey W. Browne and the late Verda B. Rowles Browne.
Mr. Browne was retired as a clerk for Butler Post Office. He was a member of Grace@Calvary Lutheran Church. Mr. Browne was a graduate of Butler High School, then served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a private in the 1st Tank Battalion. He was a member of the Butler County Horseshoe League and W.P.N.H.O., the Thursday Night Bowling League, and the Father Marinaro Park Bocce players. He had an interest in gardening and horseshoes.
Mr. Browne is survived by his sons, David L. Browne and his wife Barbara, and Jeffrey J. Browne and his wife Lori; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, by two brothers, William Browne, and Richard Browne; one sister, Sarah Bush and by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Browne was preceded in death by his wife, L. June Browne whom he marriage on July 12, 1941 and who passed away on October 15, 1991 and also by one son, H. Kenneth Browne Jr., one daughter, S. Colleen Spohn, and one brother Carl Browne.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday January 17, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Services will follow at 8:30 p.m. with Patricia Sawaya Chaplain at Trinity Living Center officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Alma J. Henry

Alma J. Henry, age 79 of Sunnyview Nursing Home, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born December 25, 1929 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Thomas Towzey and the late Hilda Bankas Towzey.
Mrs. Henry was a homemaker for most of her life. She had worked at Anchor Hocking, at the Orpheum Theatre in Connellsville and she had been an attendant at the Monroe Laundry. She loved spending time with her family and taking care of her grandson Eric. Mrs. Henry was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Henry is survived by her two sons, Robert Henry of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, Stephen D. and his wife Jaymie Henry of Butler, Pennsylvania; grandson, Eric Schaffner; son-in-law, Bruce Schaffner; sister, Gloria Keys of Connellsville, Pennsylvania; brother, Jim Towzey, Iowa; and by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Henry whom she marriage on October 16, 1950 and who passed away on July 13, 1991, by one daughter, Barbara Schaffner and one sister Geraldine Gailey.
Richard L. "Dick" May
August 28, 1929 - January12, 2009
Richard L. "Dick" May, age 79 of Airport Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at 4:07 p.m. in the West Penn Hospital.
Born August 28, 1929 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Norman L. May and the late Hazel Emerick May Trader. Richard was also the step-son of Harvey C. Trader who was his inspiration in life and in business.
Mr. May and his wife Joy owned May's Music Shoppe. He was a member of the Butler County Airport Authority for 42 years, The Butler County Historical Society, Life member of the Penn Township Fire Department, a leader of the Boy Scouts, a charter and life member of the Musical Theater Guild, a member of the Penn Township Veteran's Association, and chairman of the Butler County Bicentennial Committee in 2000. Mr. May was an avid airplane enthusiast; he enjoyed his 1923 Model T and his 1929 Austin. He was a model airplane and antique fire truck builder; he was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and Vintage Aircraft Association. Mr. May enjoyed repairing violins and guitars, traveling to Oshkosh every year for the air show and was a first class storyteller.
Mr. May is survived by his wife, Joy Ritson May whom he marriage on February 14, 1953, by five sons, Norman May and Melody (McGowan) May, David and Leslie May, Charles and Susie (Crede) May, Paul and Angie May, Joshua and Tammy May; one daughter, Jeanne and her husband Doug Lefever; eleven grandchildren, Emily Lefever (Mike) Powell, Becky Lefever (Tate Pacek), Molly Lefever (John Anglum), Cory Lefever, Jacob May, Jason Zang, Carrie Birckbigler, Paul May, Carleigh May, Mitchell May, Grant May; by 4 1/2 Great-Grandchildren and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. May was preceded in death by one brother, John May and one sister, Nancy Bryan.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend David Brewer of Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Brownsdale Cemetery.
