Emma Jo Comes, became one of God's tiny angels on Sunday, January 11, 2009.
Born Sunday, January 11, 2009 at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 2:48 p.m., she was the daughter of Christopher D. Comes and Bobbie Jo Wagner Comes of Harrisville, Pennsylvania.
Emma was baptized by the Reverend Lee Dreyer immediately after birth and will be truly loved and missed by her parents.
Emma is survived five sisters, Lindsey Wagner-Slagle and her husband Brian of Pittsburgh, Jewel Erkman, Maelyn Marko, Abigail Comes, Anna Comes all of Harrisville; paternal grandmother, Patricia J. Comes of Pittsburgh; and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Emma was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William and Marie Wagner.
A memorial services will be held at the White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Lee Dreyer of White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the parents or to the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
Thomas H. Holt, Jr.
January 17, 1944 - January 11, 2009
Thomas Hemmington "Tom" Holt, Jr., age 64 of Buttercup Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 7:02 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born January 17, 1944 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of Thomas H. Holt, Sr. and L. Maxine Young Holt.
Mr. Holt was retired from the labor force for AK Steel, retiring on May 31, 2003. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Connoquenessing. Mr. Holt had also served in the Air Force.
Mr. Holt is survived by his wife, Susan E. Dickey Holt whom he marriage on October 6, 1967, by two sons, Christopher R. Holt and Timothy N. Holt both of Butler, by two granddaughters, Caroline R. Holt, Madalyn S. Holt; by the mother of the grandchildren, Nicole L. Holt of Pittsburgh, by four brothers, Larry and his wife Pat Holt of Butler, Robert Holt of Warren, Ohio, Richard and his wife Lorraine Holt of Butler, Kevin and his wife Beth Holt of Butler, by five sisters, Marlene and her husband Ralph Skelley of Butler, Lana McKinnis of Renfrew, Paula and her husband John Shannon of Mercer, Deborah Wonderling of Butler, Roberta Hodge of Butler, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Holt was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Andrew C. Holt.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Norman Tutino of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Connoquenessing and Reverend Dr. Robert C. Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church in Butler officiating. Internment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Ruth M. Burger
March 21, 1915 - January 19, 2009
Ruth M. Burger, age 93, formerly of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania now of Sunnyview Home died Monday, January 19, 2009 at 7:55 p.m. at Sunnyview Home.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 21, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John T. Schmidt and the late Ada Bigley Schmidt.
Mrs. Burger was Lutheran by faith. She was a legal Secretary in the Pittsburgh Area. Mrs. Burger had been previously active in the Glenshaw community where she lived. She was a former member of the Glenshaw Century Club, Garden Club and Book Club.
Mrs. Burger is survived by two sons, John H. Burger and his wife Susan Burger of Butler, Pennsylvania, Charles W. Burger of San Jose, California; seven grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren one nephew Robert Schmidt of Homer Glenn, Illinois
Mrs. Burger was preceded in death by one daughter Joan Burger and one brother Oscar Schmidt.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday January 22, 2009 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on January 22, 2009 at 1:00 with Brian Swan of AseraCare Hospice Chaplin officiating. Entombment will be in the Mount Royal Memorial Park.

Lenora B. Stanley, age 92 of Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, Cabot, Pennsylvania formerly of Carbon Street and the Orchard, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 2:55 p.m at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Born, August 9, 1916 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Nevin S. Long and the late Mary Jane (Dufford) Long.
Mrs. Stanley was a clerical secretary for Butler Letter Service for twenty-five years. She was a life member Christ Outreach Church formerly Faith Reformed Church. Mrs. Stanley was a former member of Soroptimist International of Butler, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Butler High School in 1934.
Mrs. Stanley is survived by two sons, Larry P. and wife Jean Stanley of Huntley, Illinois, and Robert (Jim) W. and wife Barbara Stanley of Canton, Ohio; one daughter, Mary E. (Susie) Stanley of Butler, Pennsylvania;, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Stanley and also by four brothers.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday January 12, 2009 from 5-8 p.m.
Services will be held at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday January 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ken Palmer of Christ Outreach Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Mildred R. Miller

Mildred R. Miller, age 94 of Sunnyview Nursing Home, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of East Jefferson Street and New Haven Court, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 7:00 a.m. in the Sunnyview Home.
Born June 5, 1914 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Earl I. Meeder and the late Etta Eberhart Meeder.
Mrs. Miller was retired as the secretary for St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Schramm Bible Class, the Women's organization and a former primary Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Miller was also a volunteer aid at the Butler Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Raylene E. Miller of Columbus, Ohio; her two sons and their wives, Donald P. and Judy Miller of Butler, Pennsylvania, Wayne R. and Cindy Miller of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-granddaughter, two brothers and their wives, Reverend Donald E. and Patty Meeder of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Paul R. and Twila Meeder of Chicora, Pennsylvania and by five nephews.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Miller who passed away on September 15, 1996.

Lawson Grant McCall
December 22, 1929 - January4, 2009
Lawson Grant McCall, 79, of Double Road, Renfrew, passed away at 10:43 a.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Dec. 22, 1929, in Clarion County, he was the son of the late John Clifford McCall and Leila Gertrude Fowler McCall.
Mr. McCall was a member of St. John's Reformed Church. Early on, Mr. McCall worked as a heavy machine operator and then worked at Spang. He retired from Spang on December 31, 1991. Mr. McCall was a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League at Family Bowl-a-way. He was a graduate of Union High School in Rimersburg and was a veteran of the U.S Marines, serving during the Korean War. Mr. McCall loved to tinker and was well known for bringing lawnmowers back to life. God gave him a beautiful tenor voice, and he and wife, Pat, sang many duets in praise of the Lord in church. He also loved to garden and care for his yard. Mr. McCall loved his family and will be sadly missed.
Mr. McCall is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Dunn McCall whom he marriage on October 13, 1951, by two sons, John McCall and his wife, Brenda, of Butler and Mark McCall and his wife, Melanie, of Kittanning; his grandchildren, Seth McCall, Wade McCall, Hope McCall, Luke McCall and Chad McCall, all of Butler, and Sara McCall of Fort Drum, New York; great-grandchildren, Landon McCall and Kendra McCall, both of Butler; one brother, Charles McCall of Renfrew; three sisters, Helen Schubert of Renfrew, Mrs. Sam (Dorothy) Slagle of Parker and Mary Kriebel of Mercer; four nieces; and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, one niece and one nephew.
Friends and family of Lawson Grant McCall, who died Sunday, January 4, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 123 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Butler County Memorial Park.

Arthur R. Burtner
July 11, 1911 - January 3, 2009
Arthur R. Burtner passed away, Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 5:50 a.m. at the age of 97. Born July 11, 1911 in Jefferson Township, he was the eldest son of Forest and Lena (Giles) Burtner.
He retired from Armco Steel Corporation after 47 years of continuous service in the Carpenter Shop.
Throughout his life, he exemplified the family legacy of actively supporting his community. As a lifetime residence of Jefferson Township, he served on the township planning commission, was a member of the Jefferson Township School Board for 12 years and was instrumental in the establishment of South Butler County School District and the formation of Knoch High School in 1958. He was a lifetime member of Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, serving on various boards and as the church treasurer for 35 years.
His many other contributions include: actively working with the Butler Historical Society, acting on the committee that obtained historic registry designation for the Philip Burtner House in Natrona Heights (his great grandfather's homestead), writing articles for the Moraine Rockbusters club describing his adventures in rockhounding, a Shriner in the Masonic Lodge, coaching and managing boys baseball, organizing the Butler Food Pantry, and assisting with Meals on Wheels.
Arthur was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Ambrose Burtner, two infant sons; two sisters, Elsie and Charlotte, and four brothers, Cecil, Neal, Russel and Vance. He is survived by one son, Larry A. Burtner, of Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Gay (Joanne) Bennett of Butler, and Mrs. Ray (Elaine) Usell of San Diego, CA; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Joyce) Trumbauer of Elkhart, IN, Mrs. Jessie Skinner of Shipshawana, IN, Mrs. George (Frances) Boggs of Cabot, PA, Mrs. Marilyn Glasgow of Butler, PA; six brothers, Giles of Webster, NY, Keith of Butler, PA, Vernon of St. Louis, MS, Reverend Roger Burtner of Conroy, TX, Wendell of Chili, NY, Harry of Butler, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 11:00am with Pastor Kurt Knobel of Thorn Creek Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
