Catherine Virginia Smoyer Robb, age 94 of Butler died February 5, 2009.
Born March 1, 1914, in Butler she was the daughter of the late William E. and Clara Mae Winters Smoyer.
She was a graduate of Butler High School and Butler Business College. She was a life member of the First United Methodist Church in Butler.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, John McLure Robb who died January 3, 2007.
A loving mother the three sons, she is survived by John William and wife Nancy Robb of Naples, Florida, James Nelson and wife Therese Robb of Corry, Pennsylvania, and David Bruce Robb of Key West, Florida, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in North Side Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Goehring
February 27, 1913 - February 5, 2009
Mary Elizabeth Goehring, age 95, formerly of North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 1:30 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Born February 27, 1913 in Columbus, Ohio she was the daughter of the late William J. Bruner and the late Mary Mortland Bruner.
Mrs. Goehring was a trained RN but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a long term member of Covenant United Presbyterian Church in Butler. In addition to work with several community based organizations in Butler, Mrs. Goehring volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and family gatherings.
Mrs. Goehring is survived by her son, William Goehring of Ann Arbor, Michigan; three grandsons, Daniel Goehring of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kevin Goehring of New York, New York, Eric Nanninga of Winnetka, Illinois; a sister, Lois Stackhouse of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three nieces, Mary Stackhouse of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Virginia Bertrand of Irving, Texas, and Mary Lou Jessop of Ridgeway, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Goehring was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald E. Goehring whom she marriage on November 4, 1936 and who passed away on March 1, 1999, and also by her daughter, Linda S. Nanninga.
A memorial service is planned for early spring.

Phyllis G. Startzell

Phyllis G. Startzell, age 95 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.
Born May 31, 1913 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Rawl C. Startzell and the late Hazel E. Gray Startzell.
Mrs. Startzell was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Startzell is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Frederick L. (Georgenia) Crawford of Butler, Pennsylvania; three grand-daughters, Dacia Como of Butler, Pennsylvania, Manda Rensel of Butler, Pennsylvania, Triste Crawford of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; by four great-grandchildren, and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Startzell was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Startzell who passed away on July 8, 1989 and also by four sisters.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Park.

Frances E. McClellan
January 12, 1925 - February 16, 2009
Frances E. McClellan (nee Phillips) age 84 of Emeritus at Stow formerly of Brentwood Drive in Hudson, Ohio passed away Monday Feb. 16, 2009 of natural causes. Before moving in 2006 she had been a life long resident of Butler, Pennsylvania.
Born January 12, 1925 in Dubois, Pennsylvania she was the seventh daughter of Joseph and Mary Phillips. She grew up and attended school in Marienville, Pennsylvania where her Sicilian parents owned Phillips Market. She marriage her husband Edward McClellan on April 25, 1942 in Crown, Pennsylvania. They shared 64 years together upon his death in 2006.
Mrs. McClellan spent her years in Butler where her husband was employed by Magnetics/Spang and Company. They raised their four children on Cecelia Street and Muntz Avenue Extension. She was a former member of the Intermediate League of Butler, The Butler Country Club and various church women's guilds. While living in Butler she had been a member of Saint Paul's, Saint Michaels and Saint Fidelis Roman Catholic Churches. In Ohio she was a member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Hudson. She had a great devotion to praise and the rosary. She was an avid reader, wonderful cook and decorator. She had a great love for her family.
Surviving are four children Kathleen and son-in-law Frank Cervenka of Palm Coast, Florida, Joseph McClellan of Akron, Ohio, Vicki and son-in-law David Groves of Center Township, Pennsylvania and Steven and daughter-in-law Holly McClellan of Hudson, Ohio. Seven grandchildren and there spouses Nicholas and Amber Newcaster, Jennifer and Paul
Weirl, Joseph and Melissa McClellan, Eric and Jennifer Taylor, Kristen and Jason Young, Julia and Sean Cilona and Matthew Steven McClellan. Three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Taylor Young and Syndey Taylor, sister Sally Wojtaszek of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and brother Thomas of Vowinkel, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, five sisters Babe, Nora, Jeanette, Gert and Mary, by two brothers James and Joseph, son-in-law Gary L. Taylor and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Wednesday Feb. 18, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. (Rosary at 6:30 p.m.) at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, A golden Rule Funeral Home, 19 East Main Street (on the square), Hudson, Ohio 330-650-4181 and at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home 124 E. North Street Butler, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, February 19, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, February 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., at Saint Fidelis Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road Butler Pennsylvania. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Devotion, Butler County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the American Heart Association.
Ivan L. Mateer
May 26, 1945 - February 20, 2009
Ivan L. "Jr." Mateer age 63 of North Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died February 20, 2009 at 9:50 a.m. at his residence.
Born May 26, 1945 in Leechburg, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Ivan L. Mateer, Sr. and the late Mae Himes Mateer.
Mr. Mateer was in charge of security at Sonneborne. He had previously worked as a security guard at Butler Memorial Hospital; he had also worked at Sportsman Supply in Butler. Mr. Mateer has also worked as a police officer in Apollo, Pennsylvania. He was Catholic by faith. Mr. Mateer was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting and sports.
Mr. Mateer is survived by his wife, M. Hester Mateer whom he marriage on July 26, 2005, by son, Matthew S. Mateer of Butler, Pennsylvania; daughter, Danielle Barnard of Plain Grove, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, one brother, Daniel L. Mateer of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Jeanne Crotallo of Leechburg, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mateer was preceded in death by a sister Alberta (Dovie) Schumaker.
Following cremation friends and family will be received at his residence, 116 North Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001, Sunday, February 22, 2009 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Samuel S. Weston
June 16, 1939 - February 21, 2009
Samuel Scott Weston, age 69, of 121 Villa Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 7:30 a.m. in the Sunnyview Home.
Born June 16, 1939 in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Vincent Payson and Margaret Allen Duffield Weston.
Mr. Weston was a member of the First English Lutheran Church. He worked for Northstar in Zelienople and retired in June 2006. He won numerous awards as a service writer for Toyota, General Motors, Oldsmobile and Pontiac. In high school, he was drum major for the "Kane Cadets" of Kane High School. He also played the trumpet for the Kane High School Band. As a young man, he worked at the Jewel Tea Company as a regional manager. He loved to fish and was nicknamed "Onieda Sam" because he was always fished at the Onieda Dam.
Mr. Weston is survived by two sons, Jonathan Weston of Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, Samuel Weston of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Jacqueline Puchnick of Renfrew, Pennsylvania and Peggy Weston of Butler, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Paige, Brandon, Sammy, Matthew and Luke, all of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Stephanie (Weston) Forbes and her husband, Dan, of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, and Steven Weston and his wife, Marie, of North Carolina; one great granddaughter, Lilly Ann Weston of North Carolina; one brother, Joseph Weston of Florida; one sister, Janice Weston-Johns of Biloxi, Mississippi and by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weston was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Carlson Weston, who was deceased December 1, 2007 and William Weston, his brother and by his aunt, Eileen (Woods) Dayton.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial services will be held at the First English Lutheran Church on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. with Reverend James Dollhopf, pastor of First English Lutheran Church, officiating.

Betty Lou Dickey
January 26, 1927 - February 23, 2009
Betty Lou Dickey, age 82 of Sunset Village Retirement Community, Sylvania, Ohio, formerly of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, February 23, 2009 at 10:10 p.m. in the Sunset Village Retirement Community.
Born January 26, 1927 in New Castle, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Roy L. Schiek and the late Alma Imhoff Schiek.
Mrs. Dickey worked as a Registered Nurse for Butler Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1981. Previous to that she had worked as a Registered Nurse in Kentucky and Kansas. She was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Dickey graduated from the Greenville High School in 1945 and the Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She was past president of the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae, served as an elder and a deacon and was a member of the Women's Association of Hill U. P. Church. Mrs. Dickey was a member of the Maqueda Chapter #421 O.E.S., a member of the Butler Assembly #25 International order of Rainbow for Girls Advisory Board and Counsil, she was also a Butler Memorial Hospital Association volunteer and a member and past president of the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler.
Mrs. Dickey is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Diane and David Olenic of Butler, Pennsylvania, Linda and Steven Moore of Toledo, Ohio; one son, Benjamin S. Dickey of Tidioute, Pennsylvania; two grandsons, Aaron Dickey and Steven Moore, five granddaughters, Julie Skrzyniecki, Angela Dickey, Stephanie Wright, Ashley Holmes and Amanda Holmes, three great-grandchildren, Athena Dickey, Audrey Skrzyniecki and Nathan Dickey, and by one niece and one nephew.
Mrs. Dickey was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Benjamin S. Dickey who passed away on April 8, 2001.
A Memorial Services will be held at the Hill United Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Clark Sawyer of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
