Ferne L. Metzger - Friedlander, age 72 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Monday, April 12, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Meyer Metzger and the late Mildred Cohen Metzger.
She was a Homemaker, enjoyed playing Bingo, watching T.V. and also enjoyed her cats and especially her family.
Mrs. Metzger - Friedlander is survived by her three daughters, Robin and husband Gary Jewart of Chicora, Pennsylvania, Jayne Jenner of New York, New York, Mia and husband Mitch Tepper of Butler, Pennsylvania. Also survived by three step grandsons, Jordan, Jesse and Joshua Tepper; one brother, Leon and wife Ann Metzger of Wexford, Pennsylvania; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard O. Friedlander whom she marriage on June 28, 1959 and died on March 16, 2000.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, April 27, 2009 7-9 P.M.
Graveside Services will be at the at Congregation B'Nai Abraham Cemetery on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in B'Nai Abraham Cemetery.

Richard M. Patterson

Richard M Patterson, age 91 of Forest-Mere, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 10:42 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born September 14, 1917 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Melvin T. Patterson and Caroline Hoehn Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was a life member of the First United Methodist Church in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was a partner in Patterson Auto Parts from 1940-1970 and a developer of Forest-Mere Residential Plan. Mr. Patterson was a Butler County Commissioner from 1976-1980 and re-elected to second term from 1984-1988.
He received a Business Administration Degree from Grove City College. For seven years he volunteered as a Scoutmaster for Troop No. 7 B.S.A.. He obtained the original grant for Butler-Graham Airport Mr. Patterson was elected to the Butler City Board of Education from 1947-1953, Butler City Board of Recreation and helped obtain land for and build Memorial Park in the city of Butler.
He was elected to the Penn Township School Board from 1956-1962. He was a member of the Executive Board of Pioneer Trails Council B.S.A.and supervised the expansion of Camp BuCoCo. He served on the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, Chairman of combined industrial, business and residential effort 1956-1958 Flood Control for the City of Butler.
He was a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board from 1971-1975, President of the Butler Fellowship of Churches in 1973, Chairman of the Connoquenessing Creek Flood Control Authority and for sixty-five years he was a member of the Rotary Club of Butler. He helped build the Rotary Shelter and established local Easter Seal Society and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Patterson was a fifty-year member of Victory Lodge #694 F & AM. Mr. Patterson was a member of the Syria Temple A.A.O.N.M.S of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Butler Shrine Luncheon Club, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, and the Butler Country Club.
Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Patterson, whom he marriage on July 7, 1945; one daughter, Karen Wise of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son, Alan Patterson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one niece and three nephews.
Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his brother John R Patterson.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday April 26, 2009 following church at noon and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther and Reverend Tom Holman of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.
Georgie Evelyn Bonar
November 3, 1921 - April 22, 2009
Georgie Evelyn (Bunny) Bonar, age 87 formerly of Butler died at 5:50 P.M. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in The Ocean Medical Center -Brick, New Jersey.
Born November 3, 1921 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late George P. Zinn and the late Cora Frances Snyder.
Mrs. Bonar was a Waitress for various restaurants. She enjoyed crafting, sewing and cooking and was an Avon representative and food demonstrator.
Mrs. Bonar is survived by one son, Gerald Wilson of Butler; one daughter, Frances A Dubois of Brick, New Jersey; one sister, Martha Balfour of Butler, Pennsylvania; one grand-daughter, Robin Dubois of Brick, New Jersey; one grandson, Richard Dubois of Bethesda, Maryland; five nieces and one nephew.
Mrs. Bonar was preceded in death by her husband Harold Bonar whom she marriage on August 27, 1951 and passed away on November 7, 1979.

Frank R. Gillis, Sr.
September 27, 1920 - April 20, 2009
Frank R. Gillis, Sr., age 88 formerly of Vets Club Road died Monday, April 20, 2009 at New Haven Court, Butler, Pennsylvania.
Born September 27, 1920 and live his entire life in Meridian, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late A.O. Gillis and the late Lois Smith Gillis.
Mr. Gillis, Sr. was a member of Meridian United Presbyterian Church. He worked as an equipment operator and truck driver for Russell Standard Construction Company, Wingert, Inc., Dillick Lumber, Pullman-Standard and the Farm Bureau, which then became Agway. He retired in 1985 from Kradel's Greenhouse and following his retirement he owned and operated Gillis Greenhouse for 20 years. Mr. Gillis was a member of the Meridian Vets Club, a former member of Meridian V.F.D., Butler Boat Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla #73. He was a founding member of the Butler Boat Club. He was the caretaker of Vets Club Park. Mr. Gillis was also a honey beekeeper before entering the U.S. Army in 1942 and was a veteran of WW II, 44th Infantry 127 Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart Recipient and Gold Star Recipient.
Mr. Gillis, Sr. is survived by his two sons, Frank R. Gillis, Jr. of Renfrew, Pennsylvania, Ronald G. Gillis of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania; brother, Edward Gillis of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Margaret Fullerton of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Helen Christy of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, two step grand
children, five great grandchildren, six step great grand children, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gillis, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Gillis whom he marriage on July 31, 1941 and passed away on January 26, 2007, two sisters, Anna Mary Kerr and Harriet Sankey and two daughters Lucille Doutt Gillis and Gloria Jean Gillis.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday April 23, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Meridian Unite Presbyterian Church on Friday April 24 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John Porter of Meridian United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery.

Dewayne D. Day
June 27, 1919 - April 19, 2009
Dewayne D. Day age 89 of Rochester, New York died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at The Sunset House.
Born June 27, 1919 in Hilliards, Pennsylvania He was the son of the late Albert Day and Frances Stevens Day.
Mr. Day was a retired director of Environmental Health for Monroe County, a founding principal of Day Engineering P.C., life member of the Professional Engineering Society, the American Waterworks Association, and the Water Environmental Association. He was a graduate of Penn State University, and was a WW II Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 137.
Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Pauline Day, one son, David Day and his wife Donna one daughter, Elaine Seitz and her husband Norman. One daughter-in-law Marilyn Day; one sister, Ruth Reed, ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; number of nieces and nephews .
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald and one daughter Debra.
Services for Dewayne D. Day will be held at The Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park.
On Saturday April 25, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Peterson officiating.
Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park

Esther Grace Fair
October 16, 1934 - April 17, 2009
Esther Grace Fair age 74 of North Chestnut St. Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday
April 17, 2009 at 8:32 P.M. in U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Born in Higgins Corners Hilliards, Pennsylvania on October 16, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Carl Valentine Thompson and Ethel Grace McFadden Thompson.
Mrs. Fair was a member of The Salvation Army. She worked as a caregiver for the elderly and also her neighbors. She volunteered in the soup kitchen and also as a bell ringer for the salvation army. She enjoyed playing bingo, spending time with her grandchildren and her cat Billy and her bird Angel. She also enjoyed just spending time on her front porch.
Mrs. Fair was marriage to Lewis William Fair on November 4, 1966, he preceded her in death on December 1, 1989. She is survived by two sons: Gary W. Fair of Portersville, Pennsylvania and Stanley E. Fair and his wife Melissa of Fenelton, Pennsylvania. Three daughters: Bonnie J. Thompson, Nancy K. Thompson Codispot, and Bobbie Jo Fair all of Butler, Pennsylvania. Nine grandchildren: Christine Gould Robertson of Butler, Jesse Carothers of Slippery Rock, W. Gene Fair and Resha Fair of Butler, Jessica Fair and Dalton Fair of Chicora, Adam Fair and Caitlyn Fair of Fenelton, and Savannah Fair of Portersville. Seven great grandchildren: Taylor and Madeline Robertson of Taylors South Carolina, Austin Blatt, Mikayla, Nikole, Alyssa, Kassie Carothers of Slippery Rock. One Brother Carl Thompson Jr. of Eau Claire and one sister: Mrs. James Wyonna " Tootie" Hutchson. A number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her granddaughter : Toni Michelle Gould and one brother: Chester Henry Thompson.
Friends and family of Esther Fair will be received at The Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc. 124 East North St. Butler, PA 16001 on Wednesday April 22, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M.
Funeral services will follow at 3:00 P.M. with Major Paul Downing of the Salvation Army officiating. Interment will follow In The Butler County Memorial Park.

George W. Campbell
May 20, 1924 - April 17, 2009
George W. Campbell, born May 20, 1924 died April 17, 2009. His parents were George S. Campbell and Nina White Campbell. He was born into a large loving family of 7 brothers and 3 sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Dorothy Boyer Campbell. Surviving are their two children, daughter Linda Clark and husband William Clark; and their two sons, Bryan Clark and David Clark and wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Olivia Clark; and son, James W. Campbell and wife Deborah and their children Michael Campbell and Krista Campbell.
George's second wife, Arlene Buckley Campbell also preceded him in death. Surviving is her daughter, Connie Schwab and husband Louis Schwab; their son Louis Schwab and wife, Esther and their two sons, Harding and Owen; and their daughter, Leeanne Tooley and husband, Paul Tooley and their children, Evan and Karah, all of T.or C., New Mexico.
George served in the U.S. Air Force in the 15th Air Force in Italy as an Arial Engineer aboard a B-24 Bomber. He was awarded numerous campaign ribbons as well as the Air Medal with Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service.
After the war, he returned to his civilian job and in 1950 was recalled for active duty in 1950 during the Korean War 375 Troop Carrier Wing 56 Squadron.
In 1956, he entered the ministry of the United Methodist Church, serving Blackburn, Millerstown, Tidioute, Sheffield and Glassport churches, retiring in 1988. Later he served a brief term as minister of the Truth or Consequence United Methodist Church in New Mexico.
