C. George Nicklas

October 23, 1919 - April 16, 2009

C George Nicklas Sr., age 89 of The Orchard at Concordia, formerly of Penn Township, Butler, Pennsylvania died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 7:25 in the evening.

Born Thursday, October 23, 1919 in Penn Township, Butler County, he was the son of the late Clarence A Nicklas and the late Irene DeLair Nicklas.

Mr. Nicklas was a manager for MarCraig Farm for sixty years. He was a member of Middlesex Presbyterian Church in America., where he served as Elder and Deacon for many years. Mr. Nicklas helped organize Penn Twp Fire Co. where he is a life member and served as Chief for thirteen years. He was instrumental in developing the Brownsdale Cemetery where he was an active Caretaker at the Cemetery for many years.

Mr. Nicklas Sr. is survived by one son, C George Nicklas, Jr. and his wife Rita of Afton, Virginia; one daughter, Susan Nicklas of Butler, Pennsylvania;, two granddaughters, Lisa Marie Lowman and her husband Stace of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Laura Ann Patrick and her husband Keagan of Laguna Beach, California, two great-granddaughters, Mariah Christine Lowman and Skyler Jean Lowman of Virginia Beach and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nicklas Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Helen E Nicklas whom he marriage on October 24, 1939, and passed away October 29, 2006 and also by one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, April 19, 2009 after church at noon and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home on Monday April 20 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Kevin M. Bowen of Middlesex Presbyterian Church officiating. Private interment will follow in Brownsdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023

Fred E. Holfman

March 14, 1923 - April 13, 2009

Fred E. Holfman, age 86 of Madison Avenue, East Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at 4:45 p.m in the Meadow Lake Manor of Sugar Creek.

Born March 14, 1923 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Fred Holfman and the late Elva (Luther) Holfman.

Mr. Holfman was a Pressman for Castle Rubber. He was a member of The Nazarene Church and also affiliated wtih Faith Fellowship Alliance Church. Mr. Holfman retired in 1985 as a pressman at Castle Rubber Company. He enjoyed raising flowers for sixty years. He was a member of the Jefferson Grange and the Farmer's Market of Butler..

Mr. Holfman is survived by his wife Mary E. Holfman whom he marriage on April 21, 1956, one daughter, Marcia and her husband Jamie Glasgow of Butler, Pennsylvania; son, Dennis and his wife Mary Ellen Holfman of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several cousins, several nieces and nephews; sister, Mrs. Gladys Blain of Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Holfman was preceded in death by one son, and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Richard Jenks of Faith Fellowship Alliance Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Norman Leroy Hervey

May 5, 1924 - April 10, 2009

Norman Leroy Hervey, age 84 of Kennedy Lane, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at his residence.

Born May 5, 1924 he was the son of the late William Leroy Hervey and the late Eva Maude Harrif Hervey.

Mr. Hervey worked for Anchor Glass and the Butler County Assistance Agency. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge-Butler Lodge 64, Elks Club 170, American Legion - Parker, Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge, Lafayette Lodge 0079, Zanesville, Ohio. Mr. Hervey earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army.

Mr. Hervey is survived by one niece, Cheryl Kristufek of Monroe, North Carolina; one nephew Rod Kormrumpf of Anoka, Minnesota, one great-niece, two great-nephews,

and one great-great nephew.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 0598, Route 58 Foxburg, Pennsylvania 16036, or Butler Elks Lodge 170, 80 Kaufman Dr, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Norman will be sadly missed by those who knew him. His kind, generous spirit will be missed by all.

Doris Marie Marshalek

July 1, 1937 - April 10, 2009

Doris Marie Marshalek, age 71, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at 7:00 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Ministries .

Born July 1, 1937 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Robert P. Hays, Jr. and the late Margaret Nagy Hays

Mrs. Marshalek was a member of First United Methodist Church in Butler, Pennsylvania. She was a registered nurse, medical and surgical clinical specialist in Pittsburgh and a state board review course-nursing instructor. She was a Professor Emeritus at the Community College of Allegheny County. Mrs. Marshalek was a caring and dedicated faculty member from 1972 to 2007 in the Nursing Department at Allegheny Campus. She also served as the Health Coordinator at the CCAC Downtown Center. She enjoyed reading, big band music, flea markets, and antiques.

Mrs. Marshalek is survived by one son, Bernard J. Marshalek, Jr of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.; two daughters, Regina A. Tabor San Antonio, Texas and Mary T. Metzler and her husband David of Devon, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Anna and Stephanie Tabor, Carolyn and Julia Enyart; by one aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Hayden and her husband Joseph of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, several cousins, and her dear friend Shirley Rock of Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Marshalek was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard J. Marshalek, whom she marriage on October 15, 1966 and who passed away on April 9, 2007.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery in Marion Heights, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1027 Evans City Road, Renfrew, Pennsylvania 16053.

Stella L. "Tedda" Burleigh-Gilliland

March 31, 1939 - April 10, 2009

Stella L. "Tedda" Burleigh-Gilliland, age 70 of Connoquenessing went home to be with the Lord on April 10, 2009, following complications from a stroke.

She was born in New Sewickley Township, Beaver County on March 31, 1939, to Ralph Edgar and Vesta Hoey Edgar.

She was a school bus driver for A.J. Myers and Sons. She had been a school bus driver for the Seneca Valley School District for 23 years. She attended First Baptist Church of Butler.

Mrs. Burleigh-Gilliland is survived by a son, Christopher Burleigh of Ohio, a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and James Ellenberger of Butler; three sisters, Ruth Daubenspeck of Byesville, Ohio, Doris Youngblood of Evans City and Frances Henry of Connoquenessing. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Justin and Jesse Ellenberger, and Hildi Burleigh all of Butler, and four loving step-children.

Mrs. Burleigh-Gilliland was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Burleigh in 1995 and by her second husband, Gilmore T. Gilliland in 2005 . She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Edgar and her parents.

She was greatly loved by her family and friends will be missed by all who knew her.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday April 13, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday April 14, 2009 at 11:00 with Reverend Richard P. Jenks of Faith Fellowship Alliance Church officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. before the service.

Interment will follow in Evans City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Christian School, 221 West New Castle Street, Butler, PA 16001

Ione D. Pflugh

April 8, 1923 - April 6, 2009

Ione D. Pflugh, age 85 of Township Line Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at 3:15 a.m. at her residence after a short illness.

Born April 8, 1923 in Indiana County, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Sloan R. Marshall and the late Nannie Douds Marshall.

Mrs. Pflugh was a Homemaker. She was a member of Christ Outreach Church. Mrs. Pflugh was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a former member of TOPS, and a former member of the church choir. She enjoyed camping, gardening, word search puzzles, and her family.

Mrs. Pflugh is survived by her husband William R. Pflugh whom she marriage on May 1, 1947; two daughters, Donna Pflugh of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Russell (Jane) Swartzlander of Rittman, Ohio; one granddaughter, Sally Swartzlander of Rittman, Ohio.

Mrs. Pflugh was preceded in death by one brother, and one sister.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ken Palmer of Christ Outreach Church officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Butler Meals on Wheels, 218 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Janet "Jan" Besnecker

June 26, 1934 - April 5, 2009

Janet "Jan" Besnecker, age 74, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at her residence.

Born June 26, 1934 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Francis "Pete" Shaffer and the late Luella Stevenson Shaffer.

Mrs. Besnecker was a member of Community Alliance Church. She was a foster mother to 75 children, mostly newborns, volunteered in crib nursery at Community Alliance Church for 25 plus years, former deaconess and former choir member of Community Alliance Church, attended Alliance Women and also enjoyed Sunday School and Bible Studies. Mrs. Besnecker worked at the VA Hospital, Butler Memorial Hospital- newborn unit, Butler County CYS, and Children's Home of Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Besnecker is survived by one son, Barry L. and his wife Diane Besnecker of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Jill Stevenson of Butler, Pennsylvania, Rene and her husband Thomas Good of Butler, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two sisters Mrs. Bette Minto of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania, and MaryAnn and her husband Sanders Talley of Scottsboro, Alabama, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Besnecker was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Besnecker who passed away on December 10, 1992.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday April 8, 2009 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Community Alliance Church on Thursday April 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis L. Krajacic of Community Alliance Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
