David C. Cumberland, 74, of Meridian, Pennsylvania, went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, June 5, 2009, at 7:47 PM in the Butler Memorial Hospital after a month-long illness.
Born April 8, 1935 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harry Cumberland and Frances Wall Cumberland.
Mr. Cumberland retired in 1993 from Armco Steel after 38 years of service where he was a maintenance turn foreman at Plant 2. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and usher for many years. He also performed many handyman duties for the church.
Mr. Cumberland enjoyed traveling, gardening, and any and all types of handyman work. There was nothing too challenging for him. His greatest enjoyment, however, came from spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed terribly by all who were so fortunate to have him as a part of their lives.
He was the beloved husband of Betty Holmes Cumberland, whom he marriage June 26, 1954; loving father and father-in-law of Jacquelyn Pietrowski and her husband Daniel of Munhall, Laura Nichol and her husband Daniel of Meridian, and Jeffrey Cumberland and his wife Susan of Meridian; loving and proud grandfather of Aimee Nichol Reed and her husband Justin, Amber Gilson Solomon and her husband Daniel, David Gilson, Joshua Cumberland, Rachel Nichol, Caleb Cumberland, Matthew Cumberland, and Sara Cumberland. He is also survived by his first great-grandson, Logan Eugene Reed, who was just born on June 3, 2009; one sister, Phyllis Weigle of Butler; three brothers, Theodore Cumberland of Florida, Thomas Cumberland of Illinois, and Lonny Cumberland of Butler; three brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruth Holmes of Butler.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Cumberland, one sister, Lillian Dickey and also his father-in-law, Willard Holmes, who recently passed away on May 8, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 221 W. NEW CASTLE ST, BUTLER, PA 16001, on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. David Maitland and Rev. Jeff Gwilt of the First Baptist Church officiating. Private interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
The family of David Cumberland suggest donations be made to the American Lung Association, American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
Martha Heuler Solkovy

Martha Heuler Solkovy, age 84 of, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 5:00 P.M. in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Thursday, December 25, 1924 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late John A. Heuler and the late LaVerne Brunner Heuler.
Mrs. Solkovy was a Secretary in the shipping department for Mine Safety Appliance and retired April 15, 2003. She was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed her grandchildren, her dog, nature and hiking.
Mrs. Solkovy is survived by her husband, Robert O. Solkovy, Sr whom she marriage on August 24, 1949, by son, Robert O. and wife Terri Solkovy Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Shauna Christine Solkovy of Butler, Pennsylvania, Melissa Erin Solkovy of Butler, Pennsylvaniar; two brothers, Joseph and wife Ellen Heuler of Sewickley Pennsylvania, Gerard and wife Elizabeth Heuler of Ambridge, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Solkovy was preceded in death by one Sister, one brother and one son, John K., Solkovy.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with The Rev. George Palick of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church officiating.

Thomas R. Davis

Thomas R Davis, age 60 of 7th Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, died June 7, 2009 at Oakland VA Medical Center.
Born Sunday, October 31, 1948 in Oil City, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late John R. Davis and the late V. Jean Davis.
Mr. Davis was a member of VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778. He enjoyed golf, skiing, sports cars. He was in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Davis is survived by four sons, Thomas Dillon, Lee Dillon, Chris Davis, Corey Davis; one daughter, Wendy Meals; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one niece; two nephews and one brother, James Davis.
A Memorial service will be held at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday June 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. David West of GraceWay Community Church officiating.
Military Honors will be provided at the funeral home by VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778.
Interment will be in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

Edith P. McGrew
November 6, 1914 ~ June 12, 2009
Edith P. McGrew age 94 of Center Twp. Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday June 12, 2009 at 11:05 p.m. in the Worthington at Adams Nursing Home in Mars, Pennsylvania.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on November 6, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Merritt Parker and Amy Kuntz Parker. Mrs. McGrew was part of the first surviving set of triplets born in Butler county.
She was marriage to William M. McGrew on November 23, 1950 . He preceded her in death on January 21, 1994.
Mrs. McGrew retired in 1978 after over thirty years of service with Heckett Engineering, which is now Heckett Multiserve. Edith was their Secretary Treasurer.
She was a member of North Street Christian Church and served as their treasurer and also as a deaconess.
Mrs. McGrew was a life member of The Butler Country Club, and a life member of Tanglewood Senior Center, and a member of General Federation of Women's Clubs GFWC.
Mrs. McGrew is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Michele Shields and her husband Robert of Chicora, Pennsylvania; one step-son, Timothy McGrew and his wife Eileen of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Terry M. Shields and Lynndee C. Shields, two step grandchildren, Paul McGrew and Elizabeth McGrew; one great granddaughter, Ashlee Shields; three nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.

Earl LeRoy Young

Earl LeRoy Young, age 87 of Evans City Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday July 18, 2009 at 7:25 a.m. in the Butler VA Medical Center.
Born July 2, 1922 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of late Charles Young and the late Ann Bell Mortimer.
Mr. Young was a member of St. John's Reformed Church. He worked in the Cold Mill Department at Butler Armco where he retired in 1979 after 39 1/2 years. Mr. Young was a veteran of the U.S. Army Second Engineer Special Brigade, serving in WW II in the South Pacific. He was a member of VFW Joseph T. Black Post #249 and Michael Kosar Post #778 of Lyndora American Legion. Mr. Young enjoyed coffee with all of his WalMart buddies, horse racing and poker, and his friends and family. He just celebrated his 87th birthday with over 100 friends in attendance.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife Ethel B. Young wife of 63 years; one son Mr. Donald L (Marjorie) Young of Seattle, Washington; three daughters; Mrs. Robert (Janice M.) Reott of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Ronald (Deborah A.) Palmer of Chicora, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Gary (Sharon L.) Schneider of Butler, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Mrs. Michael (Ronee Ann) Haller, Major Daniel Palmer, Nichole Palmer, Matthew Schneider, Jared Schneider, Kelsey Schneider, Mrs. Ryan (Lynn) Reott (wife of deceased grandchild). Four great grandchildren, Cassie Haller, Mark Haller, Megan Johnson, Jack Reott and a number of nieces and nephews are also surviving.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Smith and Mabel Walsh, one brother Arthur Young and one grandson Ryan Reott.
Friends were be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday July 19, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services were held at the Butler VA Medical Center Auditorium on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Frances Donnel

Frances Donnel, age 94 of Evergreen Nursing Home in Harmony, Pennsylvania formerly of N. Elm Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 8:15 a.m. in the Evergreen Nursing Home in Harmony, Pennsylvania.
Born May 15, 1915 in Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Harry Murl Dumbaugh and the late Mattie L. Doutt.
Mrs. Donnel was a member of First United Methodist Church in Butler. She was a Homemaker and a caring, loving mother devoted to her family. Mrs. Donnel was a member of the Tanglewood Center Senior Citizens of Butler, on the tour committee, and "60 Plus Out Reach" a visiting group to senior citizens in hospitals, home, and nursing care centers. She was an avid doll collector and a ceramics enthusiast.
Mrs. Donnel is survived by four sons, William E. and his wife Janet Donnel of Butler, Pennsylvania, Robert C. and his wife Judy Donnel of Butler, Pennsylvania, Curtis L and his wife Kathy Donnel of Springfield, Virginia, and Douglas C. Donnel and his companion Cheryl Knox of Warner Robins, Georgia; one daughter, Karen E. and her husband Russ Ottney of Harmony, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Fair of Naples, Florida.
Mrs. Donnel was preceded in death by her husband William A. Donnel whom she marriage of June 2, 1937 and who passed away on February 22, 2004. Also preceding her in death was her son David Alan, four brothers, and five sisters.

Martha Keck

Martha T. Keck age 91 of North Monroe Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 2:30 a.m. at her son's home.
Born July 8, 1918 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John E. Tollen and the late Esther Enstrom Tollen.
Mrs. Keck was a member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church. She graduated from Butler Senior High School in 1937. Mrs. Keck was a secretary for Armco Steel and Pullman Standard. She was a former member of Armco Golf Club and the Armco Women's Club. Mrs. Keck was also the former secretary for the Butler Sesquicentennial. She was a life member of the Maqueda Chapter #421 O E S and a life member of the Good Samaritan Shrine-White Shrine of Jerusalem #32.
Mrs. Keck is survived by her son, John R. and his wife, Debbie Keck, of Butler, Pennsylvania; one granddaughter, Emily Keck of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by three nephews, and one niece.
Mrs. Keck was preceded in death by her husband, Reynold A. Keck, whom she marriage on November 19, 1948 and who passed away on April 21, 2008, and also by two sisters.
