January 16, 1941 ~ August 1, 2009

Berton George "Bert" Brown age 68 of Schnur Road Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday August 1, 2009 at 6:24 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 16, 1941 in Dubois, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Berton W. Brown and Cora E. Schuckers Brown.

Bert was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church. He retired from Plant #2 at Butler ARMCO in 1994. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Men's Club, The Happy Hunters, ARMCO Park and enjoyed going to the fish Dinners at St Mary's. He also enjoyed traveling, camping and attending various family reunions. He was a graduate of Butler High School.

He is survived by his wife: Louise Mary Bauldoff Brown they were marriage on August 8, 1961. Two sons Joseph Brown and Dale Brown of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters; Darlene Teuteberg and her husband Ralph of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania and Connie Bowman and her husband Andy of Butler, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren Jennifer Brown, Adam Brown of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania and Nicole Harley Brown of Butler, Pennsylvania; one sister: Margerite Herold and her husband Karl of Butler, Pennsylvania, two sister in-laws: Mabel Palace of West Virginia and Connie Brown of Butler, Pennsylvania; three nieces: Darilyn Esterline, Sherri Nichols, and Michele Pall and three nephews: Derek Brown, Devine Brown, and David Brown.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends and family of Berton Brown will be received at the Thompson- Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Monday August 3, 2009 and Tuesday August 4, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to9 p.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, with the Rev. Father Ward Stakem officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Louise Brown, 187 Schnur Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16002.

John Smith Reichart, Jr.

September 20, 1930 ~ August 31, 2009

John Smith Reichart, Jr., age 78, of Forest Mere Circle, Butler, Pennsylvania, went to be with his Lord at 10:25 a.m.at his residence on August 31, 2009 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born September 20, 1930 in Emlenton, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late John Smith Reichart and Yvonne Heckathorn.

Mr. Reichart, Jr. was a member of Community Alliance Church. He worked as a salesman for Nystrom where he sold maps, globes, models and educational programs. Mr. Reichart was on the Western Pennsylvania Bible Conference Board, Seneca Hills Bible Conference Board, the Family Fitness program, and a former Gideon, CBMC. He enjoyed mentoring men, hunting and gardening. Mr. Reichart was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.

Mr. Reichart is survived by his wife, Sylvia Reichart, whom he marriage on August 31, 1956; four sons, John S. Reichart III, of Butler, Pennsylvania; Matthew S.Reichart of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; Andrew M. Reichart and Paul D. Reichart of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twenty-two grandchildren, Matthew, Seth, Rachel, Hannah, Caleh, Johnathan, Joshua, Sarah, Lydia, Abigail, Luke, Jack, Schafer, Drew, Zimm, Jen, Niki, Joshua, Becky, John, Sarah, and Aaron; four great-grandchildren, Grayson, Roman, Jada Grace, Emery Rachel; two sisters, Janetgail Lee and Carolynlea Clutter; and by several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.

Services will be held at the Community Alliance Church on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Dennis L. Krajacic officiating. Interment will follow in the VA National Cemetery of the Alleghenies 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, Pennsylvania 15017.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pine Valley Bible Camp, 504 Chapel Drive, Ellwood City, Pennsylvania 16117, or to the Community Alliance Church Legacy Building Fund, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Dorothy Tripp "Dottie" Soisson

February 26, 1925 - August 28, 2009

Dorothy Tripp "Dottie" Soisson, age 84, formerly of Butler and Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, died Friday, August 28, 2009 at 8:20 A.M. at The Grand Residence in Upper St. Clair, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born February 26, 1925 in Bel Haven, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Henry Tripp and Sarah Jenkins Tripp.

Mrs. Soisson was a homemaker. She belonged to the Meridian Women's Club, the Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Society. Her interests included gardening, reading, playing bridge, music -- she played the piano and the organ, and she loved to travel, and she loved her Pug dogs. She was a member of the Oak Hills Christian Church.

Mrs. Soisson is survived by her four daughters, Jean Seitzer of Northumberland, Pennsylvania; Joyce Stanley of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Rebecca Friedrich and her husband, William, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Mari Abbott and her husband, Kevin, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; five granddaughters, Jennifer Milstead, Marianne Toussaint, Rachel Abbott, Emily Friedrich and Ellen Abbott; three grandsons, Joshua Seitzer, Jared Seitzer, and Neil Friedrich; a great-grandson, Elliott David Milstead; one niece, Linda Peele Peaden; and three nephews, Bonner Mayo Smith, Peter Tripp, Paul Tripp; and one brother, Dwight Tripp of Hattisburg, Mississippi.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Soisson was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Roger Soisson, who passed away March 10, 2007; two sisters, Joyce Peele, and Christine Smith; and her granddaughter, Janacyn Seitzer.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 7 to 9 P.M. and Monday, August 31, 2009 from 10 A.M. to 12:00 noon.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 12:00 noon with Reverend Phillip Conyers, Jr. of Oak Hills Christian Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Medi Home Hospice, 103 Rhoda Avenue, Leechburg, Pennsylvania 15656.

James G. Manuel

September 20, 1955 ~ August 27, 2009

James G. Manuel, age 53 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 7:05 P.M. in the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia in Cabot, Pennsylvania.

Born Butler, Pennsylvania on September 20, 1955, he was the son of Jack L. Manuel and the late Wilma England Manuel.

Jim spent most of his 31 years in the Stainless Steel Processing Department in Plant II at Armco/AK Steel in Butler, Pennsylvania. At the time of his retirement in May 2009, he was in the Continuous Casting Department. Mr. Manuel loved spending his time outdoors -- he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was Protestant by faith.

Mr. Manuel is survived by his wife, Carol Roccki Manuel, whom he marriage on September 3, 1977; by two sons, Joshua J. Manuel and Jeremy L. Manuel, and one daughter, Jenna E. Manuel, all of Butler, Pennsylvania; his father, Jack L. Manuel of Butler, Pennsylvania; a sister, Jody E. Crouse, and her husband, Dennis, of Butler, Pennsylvania; and three nieces and four nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. at 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Harry L. Divido of North Main Street Church of God and the Reverend Father James W. Dolan of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UPMC Cancer Center at UPMC Passavant, Baierl Pavilion, Ground Floor, 9100 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15237.

Joan W. Moore

September 2, 1917 ~ August 25, 2009

Joan W. Moore, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed quietly in her sleep on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 3:40 a.m. in Concordia at Rebecca Residence.

Born in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Elgie Lavernes Wasson and the late Henrietta Hoon Wasson.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the Butler Country Club, Town and Country Garden Club, and the Butler Literary Club. Her interests included playing golf, dancing, bridge, church and family activities. She served as a deacon and an elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was a lifetime member.

Mrs. Moore is survived by one son, Robert W. Moore, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania.; two daughters, Pamela M. Patterson of Butler, Pennsylvania; Cheryl M. Hays of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Ryan C. Patterson and his wife Kristin, of Tappahannock, Virginia; Jessica N. Robinson and her husband Jared, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Cole R. Patterson of Butler, Pennsylvania; one great-granddaughter, Riley G. Patterson; four nieces and two nephews.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her beloved husband, "Robbie" Robert Williams Moore Sr., whom she marriage on April 10, 1943. He passed away on July 9, 2008.

A private family service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009, with Reverend James Swanson of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, or to the Covenant Food Cupboard, 230 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Robert G. Hilderbrand

March 13, 1926 ~ August 25, 2009

Robert G. Hilderbrand, age 83 of Chicora Fenelton Road, Fenelton, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 10:25 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born at his current home on March 13, 1926, he was the son of the late Christopher P. Hilderbrand and Annie M. Waltman Hilderbrand .

Mr. Hilderbrand was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora and attended St. Paul Roman Catholic Church for the past several years.

He was employed by the B & O Railroad from 1944 until 1959 as a traveling foreman. He then began working for T.W. Phillips Gas and Oil Company and retired in 2002 at the age of 77 after forty-four years of service. He was both a founding member and a life member of the Happy Hunters Club; a member of the V.F.W Post # 7876 of Chicora; and the Elks Club in Butler.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Second Class Petty Officer in the South Pacific Theater from 1944 - 1946. He was a member of P.I.P.P., the Pennsylvania Independent Petroleum Producers. Mr. Hilderbrand thoroughly enjoyed tending to his oil wells; he was an avid hunter; he loved playing the daily Cash Five lottery; and he also loved country music.

Mr. Hilderbrand marriage Shirley Lee Kaiser on February 2, 1967; she preceded him in death on January 31, 2002.

Mr. Hilderbrand is survived by his by one son, Brent D. Hilderbrand of Fenelton, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Kelli Jo Hilderbrand of Fenelton, Pennsylvania; one sister, Jean Helton and her husband, Harold, of Chicora, Pennsylvania; one brother, Carl Hilderbrand and his wife, Sandy, of Mt. Chestnut, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Hilderbrand, and one sister, Avanelle Dunmyre.

Friends and family of Robert Hilderbrand will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 7 to 9 P.M. and on Friday, August 28, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, August 29 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Father Steve Neff of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at the church on Saturday at 9:40 A.M. to recite the rosary.

Russell L. Hay

February 8, 1929 ~ August 20, 2009

Russell L. Hay, age 80 of Butler, Pennsylvania died Thursday evening, August 20, 2009 at Butler Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his bedside.

He was born February 8, 1929 in Clinton Township, the son of David Oliver Hay and Zora Patterson Hay.

He and his wife of 59 years, Muriel Joan Raybuck, whom he marriage in October 1950, had seven children and raised their family in the Butler area.

He served in the United States Army for two years in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge in 1953, he returned to work at the steel mill in Blawnox and then for Dillich's Lumber and Wise Machine Shop. From there he began to work for Butler Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department, from which he retired after 35 years. For a short period after retirement, he worked for PennDot doing winter snow removal and also assisting his sons with their excavating business.

Russ was a member of the Summit Presbyterian Church where he served on the Cemetery Committee. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting when he was able, and spending time with his family.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, three sons and three daughters; Phil Hay and his wife, Peg (Gale/Holben) of Fenelton; Dan Hay and his wife, Cindy (Etzel) of Butler; Tim Hay of Stafford, Virginia; Jennifer Henderson; Lisa Seybert and her husband, Tim; and Paula Hay, all of Butler. He also is survived by seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Drew Lorraine Hay; a sister, Betty McMahan Weirich; a brother, Lorraine O. Hay; and a nephew, David McMahan.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 22 from 7 to 9 P.M., Sunday, August 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jonathan Evans of Summit Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Summit Cemetery.
