Edna M. Hopper Age 83 of Charlon Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 2:10 p.m. at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on May 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Harry Hopper and Cecelia Morrison Hopper.
Mrs. Hopper was a homemaker and a member of South Butler Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary.
She was marriage to Emerson L. Hopper on July 19, 1941 he preceded her in death on February 9, 2000.
Mrs. Hopper is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Sandra) Gilliland of Fort Myers, Florida, Mrs. Richard (Gloria) McCandless of Hilliards, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Edward (Barget) Johnson of Lakeland, Florida, five grandchildren; Brad Gilliland, Jennifer Gilliland Vanasdale and her husband Gary, Josh McCandless and his wife Denise, Brandy Johnson and Tiffany Johnson, one great-grandson Matthew Gilliland, two brothers, Ralph Morrison and Donald Morrison, three sisters, Ruby Huff, Phyllis Wahler and Marjorie Wahler all of Butler, Pennsylvania, and also by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Friends and family of Edna Hopper will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001on Monday, November 8, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 and 9 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 9:00 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2004, with her niece Patti Elliott of Joy Ministries World Wide, Inc. officiating. Interment will follow on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 in the Butler County Memorial Park.
Helen Louise Wimer
August 2, 1920 - November 5, 2004
Helen Louise (Pride) Wimer, age 94 died Friday, November 5, 2004 at 2:25 a.m. in Concordia Lutheran Ministries.
Born Monday, August 2, 1910 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of Charles Albert Pride and Edith Mae Kennedy.
Mrs. Wimer was a homemaker and she formerly worked as a clerk for H. J. Heinz in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America and she was a youth ministries advisor and a Sunday school teacher. She was also active on various committees of her church. Mrs. Wimer enjoyed reading, witnessing her faith and serving her Lord Jesus Christ. She loved nature and enjoyed rhododendrons and azaleas especially.
Mrs. Wimer is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Sue Ross of Roanoke, Virginia; two sons, Evan Albert Wimer of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania and Arthur Pride Wimer of Palm Bay, Florida; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two nieces and three nephews.
Her husband, Evan Atwell Wimer who was deceased on March 14, 1980, preceded her in death.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, November 7, 2004 from 12 Noon until 4 p.m. and 7 to 9.
Services will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America on Monday, November 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. H. Curtis McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

Kevin D. Kurtz
June 16, 1961 - November 3, 2004
Kevin D. Kurtz, of Penn Township, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at his residence after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on June 16, 1961, the son of George S. Kurtz, Jr. and Nadine Garbisch Kurtz who preceded him in death.
Kevin lived a life to it's fullest and his many hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, cooking and collecting wine. He was a member of the Butler Country Club, The Duquesne Club, Pike Run Country Club and the Millville Sportsmen's Club. Kevin was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown. He was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and Washington and Lee University.
Kevin was the beloved husband of Janet Nash Kurtz whom he marriage October 10, 1987 and an active father to his two sons, Chandler Loring Kurtz and Cameron Nash Kurtz. One aunt, Victoria Garbisch Jackson and a number of dear cousins, also survives him.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. David L. McDonald and Reverend Dr. Richard A. Morledge officiating. Burial services will be held privately at the North Side Cemetery, Butler, Pennsylvania.

Gertrude L. McCandless

Gertrude L. McCandless, age 101 of formerly of North Elm Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at 6:01 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Monday, March 2, 1903 in Jefferson Township she was the daughter of the late Charles Bachman and the late Emma Montag.
Mrs. McCandless was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church; she belonged to the Women of the church and the Friendly Bible class.
Mrs. McCandless is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Anita Gamberoni of Butler, Pennsylvania, Ms. Patricia McCandless of Newhall, California; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Ms. Frieda Bachman and Ms. Alma Bachman both of Cabot, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McCandless was preceded in death by her husband, Milton B. McCandless who passed away on November 27, 1985 and by two sisters and five brothers.

David L. Rettig
August 29, 1940 - November 3, 2004
David L. Rettig Age 64 of Bonniebrook Road Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at 1:25 A.M. at his home.
Born in Butler County on August 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Harry L. Rettig and Susanne Chupka Rettig.
Mr. Rettig was a lifelong member of the North Main St. Church of God. He retired in 2001 from Armco/A K Steel after 39 years in the Strip Shears Department. He was a member of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club, the National Rifle Association, and the Keenagers Sunday school class of his church. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Dave enjoyed hunting, refinishing antique furniture, restoring antique cars, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Montag Rettig, they were marriage on September 8, 1961, one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Pamela) Slomers, Jr. of East Butler, Pennsylvania, one granddaughter, Shelby Sue Slomers, one sister, Mrs. Neal (Diana) Mason of Carmi, Illinois, one step-brother, Donald Currie and his wife Carol of Fenelton, Pennsylvania, his step-mother, Mrs. Helen Rettig of Butler, Pennsylvania and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Rettig will be received on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be from the North Main Street Church of God, 1201 North Main Street Extension, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, November 5, 2004 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend David Brown and Kenneth Hall of North Main Street Church of God and the Reverend Thomas Pierotti of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in The Gruenwald Cemetery.

Isaac E. Cranmer, one-month-old infant son of Matthew A. Cranmer and Heather M. Collins of 7260 Country Club Road, Butler, PA, died Monday, November 1, 2004 at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Isaac was born Tuesday, September 28, 2004 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Isaac is survived by parents, Matthew and Heather Cranmer; brother, Jacob A. Cranmer; paternal grandfather, Terry Cranmer of Butler, Pennsylvania; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Harold (Judy) Kennedy of Mars, Pennsylvania; paternal great-grandfather, Charles Cranmer, Sr. of Butler, Pennsylvania; maternal grandparents, Robyn and Brian Collins of Butler, Pennsylvania; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Colleen Collins of Butler, Pennsylvania; maternal great-grandparents, Richard and Leona Wagner of Butler, Pennsylvania; maternal great-great-grandmother, Elsie Moyer of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Glenn George Bartmas, age 46 of 125 Alpine Lane, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at his residence.
Born Monday, January 27, 1958 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of Glenn O. Bartmas and Winona Stamm Bartmas.
Mr. Bartmas was in the carpenter's union Local 2274 as a heavy carpenter in western Pennsylvania area building locks, dams and bridges. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and nature. He was an army veteran serving in Fort Knox infantry and Stuttgart Germany as a specialist 5th class.
Mr. Bartmas is survived by his wife Sharon Bartmas whom he marriage in October of 1980, by three sons, Luke Bartmas, Seth Bartmas, and Glenn "Scooter" Bartmas; one daughter, Shirley Bartmas, by his parents, Glenn O. and Winona Bartmas; by two brothers, Tim Bartmas, and Doug Bartmas; by three sisters, Gloria Pink, Teresa Lechine, and Dianna Stewart; all of Butler, Pennsylvania and by six nieces and eight nephews.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, October 28, 2004 from 7 to 9 p.m..
