Donald Andrew Steffan, age 69, of Villa Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 1:51 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born January 11, 1940 in Natrona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Andrew Steffan and Loretta Kaniecki Steffan.
Mr. Steffan was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Chicora, Pennsylvania where he was past President of the Church Council. He graduated from Har-Brack High School, Penn Technical Institute of Pittsburgh, and New Kensington Commercial College.
He served in the United States Navy as a hospital Corpsman Operating Room Technician. He was employed at American Hardware - Servistar Corporation for 39 years where he was a computer operations supervisor. He served on the Karns City School Board for 12 years, ten of which he served as president. The intermediate IU-IV Board of Directors, Butler Area Vo-Tech Board of Directors and Pennsylvania School Board College of Directors. He started the Karns City Boys Elementary Basketball Program, coached little league baseball and Karns City Youth Football. He filmed Karns City Varsity Football for thirty years and was a charter member of the Gremlin Quarterback Club. He served on the Butler County Lafayette Committee that recommended the Butler Government Center. He served on The Butler Area Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors. He played Santa for many organizations, such as Karns City Schools and personal friends for years. He received the first Karns City Teachers Golden Apple Award. He was a member of American Legion Post # 778 Lyndora, where he served for three years as Post Adjutant, and was a member of the Pennsylvania Gold Brigade. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Steffan is survived by his wife, Diana Simpson Steffan, whom he marriage on August 17, 1968; two sons, Troy Andrew Steffan and Quay Donald Steffan, both of Butler, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Abbey Steffan; one sister, Mrs. John (Carol) Cieslinski of Natrona, Pennsylvania; two nieces, Lynnette Bastin and Tracey Maskas; and two nephews, Steven Simpson and Patrick Preston.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m..
There will be visitation before the service on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, Pennsylvania 16025.
Services will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend James A. Higgins of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Derek J. Dickson

Derek J. Dickson, age 27, of Butler, Pennsylvania passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 at his home.
Born in Natrona Heights on June 27, 1982 he was the son of David Dickson and Anna Vesztergom Dickson.
Derek was a 2000 graduate of Butler High School and studied metrology at Butler County Community College. He was a quality assurance technician. He attended Community Alliance Church.
In addition to his parents, Derek is also survived by a son, Deven Dickson of Butler; two brothers, Dan Dickson of Butler and Dave Dickson and his wife, Jessica, of Caro, Michigan; his paternal grandparents, Richard and Ruth Dickson, and his maternal grandparents, John and Magdalena Vesztergom, all of Butler, and one nephew, Seth Dickson, and several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive..

Stanley G. Roberts
August 21, 1917 ~ October 2, 2009
Stanley G. Roberts, age 92, formerly of Westbrook Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died on October 2, 2009 at 4:38 a.m. in the VA Medical Center Butler.
Born August 21, 1917 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William A. Roberts and Margaret Mae Grant Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a funeral director at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home in Butler for 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Eulalia Lodge # 342 F & AM of Coudersport, a lifetime member of Coudersport Consistory Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Coudersport, Pennsylvania, a member of the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh, the Butler Shrine Luncheon Club, and the Caravan 14 of Butler. He was also a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving in the European Theater during World War II. Stanley had been Judge of Elections for 16 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 52 years.
Mr. Roberts is survived by one daughter, Marianne, and her husband, Richard Lidstone, of Poland, Ohio; one son, Thomas A. and his wife Candace Roberts, of Tucson, Arizona. He is also survived by a step- daughter, Betty Darlene Smith; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; a number of step-great grandchildren; his one brother, William L. Roberts of Coudersport, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Darrin of Coudersport, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Jeanette Brown of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ellen Roberts who passed away in August 24, 1997, and one brother.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania following church on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 12 to 4 p.m.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park 401 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Agnes May Turnblacer

Agnes May Turnblacer, age 96 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:40 a.m. in the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 23, 1913 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James McGlincy and Nancy Agnes Pickering McGlincy.
Mrs. Turnblacer was a member of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church. She worked for the Butler Area School District teaching Latin and English, retiring in 1975. Mrs. Turnblacer was a member of the Butler Area Chapter of Retired Teachers, PA State Educators Association, and Butler County Retired Public School Employees Association. She was a graduate of Grove City College Class of 1935 and also attended graduate classes at University of Pittsburgh, and Duke University at Durham, North Carolina. Along with her husband, she was a lifetime member of the Butler Country Club.
Mrs.Turnblacer was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles B. Turnblacer, who passed away on June 25, 1992, and four sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. Turnblacer is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Dianne R. (Warheit) Keefer

Dianne R. (Warheit) Keefer, age 49 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 9:10 p.m. at her residence.
Born June 7, 1960 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Richard C. Warheit and Hazel Geist Warheit.
Ms. Keefer was a member of the First English Lutheran Church.
She worked as an assistant manager at Vitamin World in Butler, Pennsylvania and also as a sales associate for Boscov's Department Store. Her previous employment was at the YMCA.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She had her own baking business, "Princess Pastries", for a short time. She loved spending time with her children and "adopted" grandkids.
Ms. Keefer is survived by her daughter, Dhyana Keefer and her son, David J. Keefer both of Butler, Pennsylvania; her mother, Mrs. Hazel Warheit of Butler, Pennsylvania; her "adopted" grandchildren, Macey and Cohen Thompson; two brothers, Rich and his wife, Sue Warheit of Butler, Pennsylvania and Eric and his wife, Chrissy Warheit of Butler, Pennsylvania; a sister, Suzanne and her husband, William Hulton of Butler, Pennsylvania; a niece, Elizabeth Warheit and a nephew, Brian Warheit both of Butler, Pennsylvania; 4 step nieces, Jenn Knepp of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, Jessie Ernst of Callery, Pennsylvania, Becky McDonald of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Jeannie Tiedt of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Renea Marie (Byrns) Shields, age 48 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 8:05 p.m. at her residence.
Born August 5, 1961 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of Dr. James E. Byrns and Virginia L. (Menanno) Byrns.
Mrs. Shields was a graduate of Hempfield Area Senior High School and BCI School of Business. She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and medical transcriptionist for various doctors' offices and hospitals.
Mrs. Shields is survived by her husband, Martin Shields whom she marriage on May 14, 1983; four daughters, Kristen Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania, Hilliary Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania, Allisyn Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania, Natalie Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania; her parents, Dr. James E. and his wife Virginia L. Byrns of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; one sister, Dr. Koreen Byrns of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; one brother, James Thomas and his wife Rebecca Byrns of Chattanooga, Tennessee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Isabelle Shields and by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Shields was preceded in death by sister, Stacy Byrns Burlas, infant nephew, Stephen Byrns Burlas, paternal grandparents, John and Amelia Byrns, and maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Concetta Menanno.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, Pennsylvania.
St. Paul and Christian Mothers will meet at 10:10 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the church to recite the rosary.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family for an education fund to be established for Renea's daughters.
Constance Lee "Connie" Potyka Walsh

Constance Lee "Connie" Potyka Walsh, age 75, of Butler, Pennsylvania, went to meet her Heavenly Father on November 19, 2009 at 4:00 P.M.
Born August 26, 1934 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Andrew M. Potyka and Sarah M. Hutchinson Potyka.
At the young age of ten, Connie suffered a bout with cerebral spinal meningitis, which she survived, but was left deaf from it. Connie was a Retirement Claims Specialist, retiring from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in Boyers, after 26 years of service. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also loved sewing, crafts and gardening. Connie was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Terri Kaylor and her husband, Bob of Butler; Holly Orzechowicz and her husband, Steve of Miami, Florida; and Robin Walsh of Pittsburgh; one sister, Patricia L. Walters and her husband, Bill of Butler; one brother, Andrew M. Potyka, Jr. and his wife, Pat of Butler; her aunt and uncle, Andrew Yaracs Jr. and his wife, Sophia of Butler; five grandchildren, Joshua Kaylor of Erie; Amy Giallombardo and her husband, Dominic of Lyndora; Rebecca, Casey, and Amanda Orzechowicz of Miami, Florida. She is also survived by her former husband, Edward Walsh, to whom she was marriage for 23 years, and a number of nieces and nephews.
