May 31, 1927~ January 12, 2010

Carmen Morra, age 82 of Trinity Living Center, Grove City, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 10:25 a.m. in the Trinity Living Center.

Born May 31, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Matthew Morra and Constance (Giquel) Morra.

Mr. Morra was a plumber and worked for Watkins Realty Company. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Morra volunteered at the Food Bank at Allison Park Assembly of God Church and also volunteered at Katies Kitchen and the Chicora Medical Center.

Mr. Morra is survived by one son, Carmen G. Morra of Butler, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Patty Bell and her husband John of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; four granddaughters, one grandson, four great grandsons, two great granddaughters and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Morra was preceded in death by his wife, Marie L "Sis" Morra who passed away on September 22, 1999 and also by two sisters and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, January 14, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home on Friday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Cal (James) Callahan officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Food Bank at Allison Park Assembly of God Church, 2326 Duncan Avenue, Allison Park, Pennsylvania 15101.

Elizabeth (Scott) Bolten

October 23, 1921 ~ January 12, 2010

Elizabeth (Scott) Bolten, age 88, of East Muntz Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 9:55 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, Pennsylvania.

Born October 23, 1921 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Elmer Wagner and Nannella Scott Wagner.

Mrs. Bolten was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed bingo, cards, square dancing, poetry, her rose garden, camping, baseball, and spending time with family.

Mrs. Bolten is survived by her husband, Harold Bolten, whom she marriage on August 17, 1957; by one son, Frederick Bolten and his fiance, Mona Bouch of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Kathy Travers (Bolten) and husband, Frank of Southbridge, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, April and Matthew Travers of Southbridge, Massachusetts, and Andrew Bolten of Peach Tree City, Georgia; two brothers, John Lewis Wagner of Galion, Ohio, and William Richard Wagner of Monroe, Ohio; four sisters, Maxine Drushell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Lois Foley of Marathon, Florida; Sally Burger of Sandusky, Ohio; and Helen Ruth of New York.

Funeral services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Charles of Portersville Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, Pennsylvania 16023 c/o Family Care.

J. Paul Owens

August 26, 1929 ~ January 11, 2010

J. Paul Owens, age 80, of Thornwood Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, January 11, 2010 at 11:50 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Monday, August 26, 1929 in Westminster, Maryland, he was the son of J. Paul Owens and Blanche Aldrich Owens.

Mr. Owens graduated from the School of Forestry at Syracuse University. He served as a member of the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps during the Korean War, serving both in the United States and Korea. Mr. Owens was the Regional Underwriting Manager at Nationwide Insurance Company in Butler, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Butler, having served as a lay reader and an usher.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Mary Haynes Owens, whom he marriage on August 21, 1955, a son, Joseph, at home; two daughters, Sarah and her husband, Robert Barry Jones of Media, Pennsylvania; and Elizabeth and her husband, Elliott Alan Hannum, Jr. of Richboro, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Jack Hannum and Meghan Hannum; one brother, David and his wife, Charlotte Owens of Staughton, Virginia; and one sister, Dorothy and her husband, Roland English of Catonsville, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Owens was preceded in death by one sister, Lucy Davis, and one brother, John Owens.

At the request of the family, there will be no public visitation.

A memorial service for Mr. Owens will be held at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church 218 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Paul Cooper officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Butler Area Public Library 218 North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or Meals on Wheels - Butler 218 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or St. Peter's Episcopal Church 218 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Nellie L. Thompson

April 17, 1920 ~ January 10, 2010

Nellie L. Thompson, age 89, formerly of East Butler, Pennsylvaia, died on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 1:00 a.m. at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

Born Tarentum, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Patrick M. Barry and Leona P. Lawther Barry.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of First Baptist Church of Butler, where she was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Butler County Historical Society. Nellie was an avid quilter, making many beautiful quilts through the years. Mrs. Thompson was always ready to serve hospitality when she was needed in church or at her home.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by two daughters, Joann and her husband, Robert Dittmer, and Linda and her husband, Chrils Wilker; two sons, Raymond E. and his wife, Patricia Thompson, and Harvey A. and his wife, Pearl Thompson; all of Butler. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several neices and nephews.

Mrs.Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Thompson, who passed away April 18, 2001, one granddaughter, one sister, and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend David Maitland of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Slippery Rock Baptist Camp, 130 Elliott Lane, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania 16057.

James P. Duggan

January 29, 1938 ~ January 9, 2010

James P. Duggan, age 71, of Glenwood Way, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:30 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born January 29, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late James T. Duggan and Marcella Fox Duggan.

Mr. Duggan was a member of Saint Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He was a graduate of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York and he attended Fordham University. Mr. Duggan was a salesman, representing many companies and traveling several states, retiring in 1980. Mr. Duggan was a hospital volunteer through the American Red Cross where received volunteer of the year two times. He belonged to his neighborhood Hull Plan Poker Club. He loved playing poker and he loved sailing.

Mr. Duggan is survived by his wife, Jean Stephenson Duggan, whom he marriage on September 27, 1958; two daughters, Nancy Ellerman and Debra Graf; one brother, Peter Duggan; two sisters, Marcella DeBenedictis and Susan Purcell; seven nieces and two nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Father James Salberg of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Butler Chapter of the American Red Cross, 312 Mercer Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Ernest Eugene Moore

November 22, 1921 ~ January 9, 2010

Dr.Ernest Eugene Moore, age 88, of Eyth Road, Butler, Pennsylvania died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 3:55 p.m. in the Butler VA Medical Center.

Born November 22, 1921 in Russelton, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Harvey Andrew Moore and Lillian Barbara Heist.

Dr. Moore was a graduate of Butler High School, Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where he earned his bachelor's degree, and the University of Cincinnati Medical School where he earned his Doctorate of Medicine. He completed an internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and went on to serve as a Captain in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Dr. Moore began his career as a well-known and well-loved family physician in the Butler area in 1950 with a private practice in family medicine. In 1985 he became a partner in the Critical Care Association and in 1994 joined the Butler Medical Associates, where he retired in 2000. Dr. Moore was a life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a member of the Board of Family Practice, a Life member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, a member and past President of the Butler County Medical Society, serving two terms as President. He was certified as a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice, a past President of the American Cancer Society, and a past member of the Butler Chamber of Commerce. Until he became disabled, "Doc's" interests were medicine, gardening, tennis, golf, skiing, reading, playing bridge, and his family. Dr. Moore was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Moore is survived by his wife, Sally "Sarah" Moore of Butler, whom he marriage on August 5, 1972. In addition, he is survived by six sons, Dr. E. Eugene Moore and his wife, Dr. Sarah Moore of Denver, CO; Dr. John B. Moore and his wife, Debbie of Denver, CO; Dr. Fred A. Moore and his wife, Paula of Fulshear, TX; Jeffrey P. Leslie and his wife, Dr. Renee Kottenhahn of Wilmington, DE; Gregory S. Leslie and his wife, Maria Stetzer Leslie of O'Fallon, MO; Bradley D. Leslie and his wife, Susan Perry Leslie of Butler; four daughters, Kathleen A. Hanners and her husband, Dr. Chris Hanners of Chillicothe, OH; Deborah L. Grant and her husband, David Grant of Gibsonia, PA; Theresa J. Otto and her husband, Dave Otto of Denver, CO; Dawn K. Roccki of Butler, twenty-one grandchildren, Hunter and Peter Moore, Jessica and Travis Moore, Kaitie and Ian Moore, Sophia and Charlotte Leslie, Alison and Nicole Leslie, Sarah and David Leslie, Noah and Dr. Emilie Hanners, Logan and Jonathan Aal, Isaac Hanners, Abby, Ben and Emily Grant, Molly and Mason Otto, and Hannah Roccki; two brothers, Dr. Leroy Moore of Santa Barbara, CA and Harvey Moore of Butler; six nieces and fourteen nephews.

Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Burroughs, and one brother, Dr. Lincoln Moore of Columbus, Ohio.

A memorial service for Dr. Moore will be held at St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Merry H. Meloy of St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church 201 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the Community Health Clinic, 103 Bonnie Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania 16002.

Russell "Rusty" Diehl

January 15, 1952 ~ January 7, 2010

Russell "Rusty" Dumbaugh Diehl, age 57, of Unionville Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 1:00 a.m. in his residence surrounded by his family.

Born January 15, 1952 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Russell C. Diehl and Phyllis A. Diehl.

Mr. Diehl was a general contractor for Russell Industries LLC and C. T. Dumbaugh Company, retiring in September 2008. He was a member of North Main Street Church of God. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 694 Victory Lodge F & A M, Rocky Mountain Elk Association, the Carpenters Union, and United Commercial Travelers. He loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, Nascar, horses, quad riding, and family picnics. All of Russ's activities centered around his family, including his wife and daughters, his parents, his brothers, and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Diehl is survived by his wife, Patricia K. Diehl whom he marriage on October 16, 1971; his two daughters, Lisa Diehl and her husband, Jeffrey McMaster and Christine Lynn and her husband, Chad Creely; his three grandchildren, Matthew Jeffrey McMaster, Nathan Russell McMaster, and Alayna Marie Creely; his three brothers, Clifford Diehl and his wife, Kathy; Randal Diehl and his wife, Sandi; and Craig Diehl and his wife, Karen; two nieces, Jennifer Mueller and Lindsay French; and his nephew, Jeffrey Diehl.

Mr. Diehl was preceded in death by a nephew, Jonathan French, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the North Main Street Church Of God on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend David Brown of North Main Street Church of God officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
