Wilda Jane Dight, age 92 of Evie's Country Care, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 11:55 a.m. in the Evie's Country Care.

Born November 2, 1917 in Plain Grove, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Armstrong and Emma VanHorn Armstrong.

Mrs. Dight was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Dight is survived by one son, Charles A. and his wife Barbara Ann Dight of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Patricia Ann and her husband Donald Hunter of New Castle, Pennsylvania, and Barbara and her husband Wayne Schnur of Butler, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Esther Hammerschmidt of Plain Grove, Pennsylvania and five nephews.

Mrs. Dight was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Dight who passed away on April 28, 1989.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with the Reverend Monica Hamilton of Harlansburg Presbyterian Church in Harlansburg, Pennsylvania officiating. Interment will follow in Plain Grove South Cemetery.

Madeline E. Baker

November 14, 1928 ~ March 12, 2010

Madeline E. Baker, age 81 of Renfrew, Pennsylvania went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, March 12, 2010 at 6:50 a.m. Mrs. Baker passed away peacefully at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born November 14, 1928 in Argentine, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Homer Hughes and Gladys Sedwick Hughes.

Mrs. Baker was a member of Butler First Church of the Nazarene. She worked at Wal-Mart in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Baker is survived by one daughter Kathy and her husband Gordon Thompson of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; her sweetheart, Glenn R. Thompson, Sr. of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. Shirley Young of Chicora, Pennsylvania; one brother Frank and Alphine Hughes of Clintonville, Pennsylvania and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Norman W. Baker who passed away on November 18, 1995; and also by two sisters and six brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Butler First Church of the Nazarene on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Chris Easton of Butler First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Betty R. Shidemantle

March 20, 1919 ~ March 11, 2010

Betty R. Shidemantle, age 90, formerly of West Penn Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11:15 p.m. in the Cranberry Place, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.

Born March 20, 1919 in Koppel, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. Rylott and the late Mary Estelle Smith Rylott.

Mrs. Shidemantle was the former owner/operator of Betty's Beauty Shop on West Penn Street, Butler. Mrs. Shidemantle was a member of St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church in Butler. She was very active in her church, where she served as a Deacon and sang in the church choir. She was also a strong supporter to parents with children in sports. She also enjoyed baking and cooking.

Mrs. Shidemantle is survived by two daughters, Rev. Mary Grey and her husband, John Emmett of Prospect, Pennsylvania, S. Beth and her husband, Steve Himebauch of Bonita Springs, Florida; four sons, Thomas D. Shidemantle of Staten Island, New York, David R. and his wife, Kathy Shidemantle of Harmony, Pennsylvania, Rev. Peter Shidemantle and his wife, Rev. Karen Dimon of Syracuse, New York, and Dale P. Jr. and his wife, LuAnn Shidemantle of Erie, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews; and one sister, Mrs. Jean Allcorn of East Palestine, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale P. Shidemantle, who passed away August 9, 1989, and by eleven brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 15, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A memorial service for Mrs. Shidemantle will be held at St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church 201 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Tuesday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Merry H. Meloy of St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in Bear Creek Cemetery in Petrolia, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church, Deacon's Fund, 201 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

William J. Heaton III

July 21, 1946 ~ March 9, 2010

William J. Heaton III, age 63 of Grandview Boulevard, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010. He passed away in Cape Canaveral where he and his wife resided during the winter.

Born July 21, 1946 in Oil City, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late William J. Heaton, Jr. His mother was the late Neva Wise Heaton.

Bill worked for Armco for 31 years in the Masonry Department, he was a journeyman bricklayer. He was a member of American Legion #117 in Butler, he belonged to various golf leagues and enjoyed bowling. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy where he was a Airdale and served as a jet engine mechanic where he achieved the rank of 2nd Class Petty Office during the Vietnam War.

Bill is survived by his wife Philomenia Morabit Heaton; they were marriage on June 4, 1966 and had been marriage for 43 years. He was also survived by one daughter, Sheri Henderson and her husband, Ronald of Butler, Pennsylvania, one grandson, Zachary Henderson, one sister, Michel Jane Gotwals and her husband Stephen of Columbus, Ohio and also by numerous nieces and nephews.

Military honors were observed by the United States Navy at the Veterans Memorial Park in Cape Canaveral.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Prayer Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. with Father James Dolan of St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church officiating. Inurnment will take place in St. Michaels Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Butler Area Public Library, 218 North McKain Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Florence Dryden

May 22, 1913 ~ March 5, 2010

Florence Dryden, age 96, of Newhaven Court at Clearview, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at 2:20 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born May 22, 1913 in Columbiana, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Lawson McFadden and Elizabeth Ellen (Wilderson) McFadden.

Mrs. Dryden was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church. She was a secretary with the Butler Chapter of the Red Cross where she worked until she retired in 1983. Mrs. Dryden was a member of the Greater Federation of Women's Clubs.

Mrs. Dryden is survived by her son, Richard L. Dryden and his wife, Nancy from Washington, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Christy Dryden and her husband, Zack Butler from Honeoye Falls, New York, Jeff Dryden and his wife, Valerie from Butler, Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Dryden from Chapel Hill, North Carolina; four great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dryden was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. H. Richard Dryden, who she marriage on August 21, 1937 and who passed away on August 30, 1969. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, and one grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at the Hill United Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Clark Sawyer of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will take place in North Side Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001or Butler Area Public Library, 218 North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Elmer Mondell

February 7, 1923 ~ March 12, 2010

Elmer C. Mondell, Sr., age 87 of Robinson Township, Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, died Friday March 12, 2010 at 9:10 p.m. in his home.

Born February 7, 1923 in Boyers, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph Mondell and Mary Horvat Mondell.

Mr. Mondell worked as an electrician for Wildwood Coal Mine in Wildwood, Pennsylvania for 23 years. Then he went to work for the Army Corp. of Engineers as an electrician in Oakdale, Pennsylvania, where he retired in 1981. Mr. Mondell was a member of Ken Mawr United Presbyterian Church in McKees Rocks, Pa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II.

Mr. Mondell, Sr. is survived by three sons, Rev. Richard "Rick" Mondell of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Robert "Bobby" Mondell of Millsboro, Delaware, and Ronald "Ronnie" Mondell of Glenpool, Oklahoma; one daughter, Maryann Mondell of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one sister, Mrs. Goldie Daniels of McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mondell was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Mondell, who passed away on May 18, 2006, his son, Elmer "Butch" Mondell, two sisters, and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 15, 2010 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at the North Side Cemetery, Butler, PA. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with his son, Rev. Richard "Rick" Mondell officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions made be made to Medi Home Hospice, 2400 Darlington Road, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania 15010.

Walter "Bill" Potochny

February 27, 1928 ~ March 13, 2010

Walter "Bill" Potochny, age 82 of Country Club Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 12:45 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born February 27, 1928 in Braedenville, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Michael Potochny and Tillie Potochny.

Mr. Potochny was an auto body mechanic for Butler County Ford where he retired in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Potochny is survived by two sons, Michael William Potochny of Butler, Pennsylvania and Walter K. "Kim" and Dianna Paisley of Butler, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Wendy Lynne and her husband Michael Czapski of Butler, Pennsylvania; one grandson, Dane Potochny; two granddaughters, Amber Samuels and Tiffaney Czapski; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Lilly, and Jaden; one brother, Steven Potochny; two sister-in-laws, Inger Potochny and Lois Potochny; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Potochny was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Dolores Potochny, whom in marriage in 1950 and passed away on January 16, 1985.

There will be no public visitation.

Private services will be at the discretion of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to his daughter, Wendy Czapski, 7229 Country Club Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 to help with funeral expenses.
