Gladys M. "Toppy" McGowan, age 84 of, Butler, Pennsylvania, died October 8, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Lowrie House.
Born April 16, 1926 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Samuel Mahan and Myrtle Williams Mahan.
Mrs. McGowan was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and was very active in her church. She graduated from Grove City College. Mrs. McGowan worked in her earlier years for Preston Labs and was a homemaker.
Mrs. McGowan is survived by one son, Robert W McGowan II and his wife Carroll of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two grandsons, Ross McGowan and his wife Carrie of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Sean McGowan of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one sister, Jean Harbison and her husband Ronald of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McGowan was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. McGowan who passed away January 11, 1999.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday October 10, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church on Monday October 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Jeff Harris of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to donor's favorite charity.

Perry L. Oertel, age 46 of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 5:40 p.m. at UPMC St. Margaret in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Born August 25, 1964 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Carrie E. (Kidd) Oertel and the late Oscar W. Oertel.
Perry was a member of Connoquenessing United Methodist Church. He was a baker at Wal-Mart in Butler, Pennsylvania. Perry was a social member of the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed face book, farmville and frontierville. Perry also enjoyed computer games, camping, baking and his dogs. He graduated from Butler Area High School in 1983.
Perry is survived by his mother, Carrie E. Oertel of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania; two brothers, William A. and his wife Darlene Oertel and Douglas W. and his wife Linda Oertel both of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania; seven nieces, Cindy Schaffer and her husband Dan, Carrie A. Scheerbaum and husband, Scott, Candy Ziegler, Michelle Wolfe, Tracy Wolfe, Toni Shalbot and husband Wayne, and Connie Moniot and husband Mike; three nephews, Harold Ziegler, Tim Wolfe and Richard Wolfe; numerous great nieces and nephews and a very close friend, Kay Leavens.
Perry was preceded in death by one brother, Larry E. Oertel.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Walter Hehman retired minister and Reverend Kurt Knobel of Connoquenessing United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Margaret V. "Maggie" Campbell

Margaret V "Maggie" Campbell, age 68 of 1408 North Main Street Extension, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at 8:46 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born December 2, 1941 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late John "Jack" Herr and Margaret (Virginia) Heck Herr.
Mrs. Campbell graduated from IUP with a undergraduate degree and earned her Master's Degree from Slippery Rock University. She previously lived and worked in Florida and Ohio. She formerly worked at the J.C. Penney Beauty Salon at Clearview Mall in Butler, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed volunteering at Tangelwood Senior Center and working with handicapped individuals. She enjoyed parties, picnics and playtime with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Campbell in February of 1993.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by two sons, Brian Campbell, Gregg Campbell; one daughter, Deanna (Campbell) VanWyck; six grandchildren, Brian Campbell, Jr., Kenny Campbell, Aaron Campbell, Nathan Campbell, Ashton VanWyck, Ariana VanWyck; and one sister, Nancy (Herr) Schleicher.
A graveside service will be held at North Side Cemetery on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Curtis of Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Doris Rath Doolittle

Doris Rath Doolittle died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:38 a.m.
Born April 19, 1913 in Terra Haute, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Frank G. Rath and Anna W. McAulay Rath.
Mrs. Doolittle moved with her family to the Pittsburgh area at a young age. She attended secretarial school after high school and became secretary at North Side Deposit Bank. She moved to Houston, Texas in 1950 and worked for Continental Oil Company (Conoco) until retirement in 1978. Doris enjoyed traveling and china painting and was accepted into the International Association of China Painters. She returned to the Pittsburgh Area in 1991 and lived in Butler.
Mrs. Doolittle was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard C. Doolittle in 1956.
She is survived by one brother, Robert Rath and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc.

Floyd W. Bicker

Floyd W. Bicker, age 97, of Concordia at the Orchard, formerly of Sarver, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 3:10 p.m. at Concordia at the Orchard.
Born in Cabot, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1913, he was the son of the late George Oscar Bicker and Laura Ross Bicker.
Mr. Bicker was retired from the Roll Shop Maintenance Department at the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Mill in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania.
He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver, Pennsylvania. Mr. Bicker was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the European theatre. He was the recipient of a purple heart.
Mr. Bicker was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine L. Burd Bicker on October 24, 2005; they were marriage on October 4, 1941. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Mr. Bicker is survived by one daughter, Janet E. Kriss of New Martinsville, West Virginia; one son, Russell F. Bicker of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and by two sisters, Mrs. Betty Rieser and Mrs. Ida Smith, both of Concordia Haven.
Friends and family of Floyd W. Bicker will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001, on Monday, October 4, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be from the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverand Dr. David West of Graceway Community Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, Sarver, Pennsylvania.

Bertha Marie Smith Age 74 of Newhaven Court Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at 6:40 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in McDonald, Pennsylvania on May 13, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Donald Campbell and Mary Ewing Campbell.
Mrs. Smith was Presbyterian, she spent life raising her children and later worked as a home health care aide. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, and studying genealogy.
She is survived by three sons: James K. Smith Jr. of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Donald A. Smith and his wife Lori of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Robert S. Smith of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. six grandchildren: Jamie, Dale, Zachary, Jennifer, Amanda, Abigail Smith; one sister, Dorothy Parry of McDonald, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Private services will be held and interment will take place in Robinson's Run Cemetery, McDonald, Pennsylvania
Virginia Hiawatha Bartsch Sadlon

Virginia Hiawatha Bartsch Sadlon, age 84, of Butler, Pennsylvania, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at 5:04 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010, at her home.
She was born June 12, 1926 in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late William C. Bartsch and Jennie Nelson.
A post-graduate of New Castle High School, she studied dancing and taught ballroom dancing. She also functioned as a photographer's model.
Ginny taught Sunday School at Brownsdale Methodist Church in Nixon. She initiated the Vacation Bible School program and served on church council. She was charter member of the Penn Township Woman's Club. She opened her home to the Butler Traveling Library which was later relocated to the Club House. She was a member of the selection committee for the American Field Service at both Knoch and Butler High Schools. She worked as a bookkeeper for various local businesses and retired as the office manger of the Butler Country Club. As coordinator of Butler County Help line, she received a Distinguished Service Award from the board. She worked as a volunteer at Katie's Kitchen. She served as a volunteer with various committees at Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband G. Earl Sadlon
and two children, her son Errol Sadlon and his wife Joyce of Charleston, West Virginia and her daughter, Sharon Sadlon George and her husband Brian of Bridgeville, Delaware; three grandsons Michael Sadlon and his wife Amanda, Christopher Kauffman and his wife Lauren and Eric Kauffman and his wife Jessie; one great granddaughter, Avery Kauffman; one sister, Wanda Bartsch of Las Vegas, Nevada; and one niece, Bobbie Curtis of Las Vegas, Nevada.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by one sister: Mildred Tervo of New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Funeral Services will be from Trinity Lutheran Church 120 Sunset Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Thomas Pierotti of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mt. Chestnut.
