Louis Kemper, age 75, of Concordia Nursing Home in Cabot, Pennsylvania, formerly of East Penn Street, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia in Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Born December 3, 1934 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Louis Kemper and Florence McCann Kemper.
Mr. Kemper was a teacher for Butler Area School District, where he retired from in 1995. He was Catholic by faith. Mr. Kemper was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and also served in the Army Reserves. Louis enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially traveling, having visited 51 countries.
Mr. Kemper is survived by one sister, Joan Kriley and her husband, Bernard of Butler, Pennsylvania; one brother, Dr. Richard Kemper of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Bernard Black of Butler, Pennsylvania and also by six nieces and nine nephews.
Mr. Kemper was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Black.
At Mr. Kemper's request, there will be no public visitation.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Saint Peters Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
Doris M. Leslie

Doris M. Leslie, of West Water Street, Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Bakerstown, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late George Leslie and Ethel Shoup Leslie.
Mrs. Leslie was a former sales clerk who worked at W.T. Grant Company and also Troutman's of Butler, Pennsylvania. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend James W. Dollhopf of First English Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in South Cemetery.
Vaughn R. Scudder

Vaughn R. Scudder, Jr., age 58 of Kaufman Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. after battling cancer for 41/2 years in the Butler Memorial Hospital .
Born August 31, 1951 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Vaughn R. Scudder and Evelyn P. James Scudder .
Mr. Scudder was Protestant by faith. He was a self-employed construction worker who retired in November 2005. Mr. Scudder enjoyed building model cars and working on vehicles.
Mr. Scudder, Jr. is survived by two sisters, Joyce Dlubak of Stoneboro, Pennsylvania and Gloria White and her husband Richard of Butler, Pennsylvania and also by nine nieces and two nephews.
Mr. Scudder was preceded in death by one nephew.
At the request of Mr. Scudder there will be no pubic visitation or funeral services. Interment will be in Bulter County Memoiral Park.
Martha M. Balfour

Martha M. (Zinn) Balfour, age 90, of South Eberhart Road, Butler, Pennsylvania formerly of Connoquenessing, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:53 A.M. surrounded by her family at the residence of her daughter and son in-law Linda and Thomas Sheridan. She will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.
Born November 22, 1919 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George Zinn and Cora Snyder Zinn.
Mrs. Balfour was a member of Connoquenessing United Methodist Church. She was a Nurses Aide at the Butler Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1983. Mrs. Balfour was a former member of Butler Chapter #45 O.E.S. and V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. She also was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Balfour is survived by, two daughters, Linda Sheridan and her husband Thomas of Meridian, Pennsylvania, and Beverly (Becky) Balfour of Thousand Oaks, California. Two grandchildren, the joys of her life Megan Sheridan of Baltimore, Maryland and John Sheridan of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Mrs. Balfour was preceded in death by her husband John C. Balfour they were marriage on April 13, 1940. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1999 and by one son, Tim Balfour . She was also preceded in death by four sisters.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday May 2, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at the Connoquenessing United Methodist Church on Monday May 3, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Nancy Shute of Connoquenessing United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates .

Jay C. Weitzel, age 85, of New Castle Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, April 29, 2010 at 4:21p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital .
Born July 17, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Plummer Weitzel and Florence Bortmas Weitzel.
Mr. Weitzel owned and operated his own truck and was a driver for Kaplan Trucking in Cleveland, Ohio until his retirement in 1979. He was also a member of the Teamsters-Union.
Mr. Weitzel is survived by his wife, Waneda Sasse Weitzel whom he marriage on July 20, 1945. He is also survived by two sons, Gerald (Jerry) Weitzel of Prospect, Pennsylvania and his fiance Lynda Byers of Sarver, Pennsylvania, Gary Weitzel and his wife Teri of Prospect, Pennsylvania, and two daughters, Janet Menchyk and her husband Frank of Prospect, Pennsylvania, and Judy Courtney of Prospect, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandson; two sisters, Dorothy Fullerton and Florence (Honey) Weitzel both of Butler, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Weitzel was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Dale, and Plummer, Jr. Weitzel all of Butler, Pennsylvania.

William Elmer Snyder

William Elmer "Bill" Snyder, age 85, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 3:15 p.m. in the Butler VA Medical Center.
Born December 8, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Elva Snyder and Rachel McGeary Snyder.
Mr. Snyder worked in the Substation Maintenance Department for Armco retiring in 1987. He was a member of the North Street Christian Church. Mr. Snyder was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Camp during World War II. He enjoyed bowling, racing and the NFL.
Mr. Snyder is survived by his wife, Marilyn Snyder, whom he marriage on August 16 1952; three sons, Kevin Snyder of Chicora, Pennsylvania, Craig Snyder of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Kirk Snyder of Butler, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Lynn and her husband Roy Deal, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania, Chris and her husband Louis Hernandez of North Hollywood, California, and Lisa and her husband Michael Venditto of Glen Burnie, Maryland; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, Rachel and her husband, Harry Rumbaugh of Butler, Pennsylvania, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Charlene R. Phillips, age 67 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11:51 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.
Born October 12, 1942 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frank C. LeFevre and Garnet Haben LeFevre.
Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, and her greatest joy was being a Grandma.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by one son Rodney Phillips, two daughters Lori Elias and Audra Brown.; eight grandchildren, one brother, Paul (Skip) LeFevre.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by one sister Jayne Vodenicar, and by one brother, John LeFevre.
According to family wishes, there will be no public visitation.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
