Olla (Olga) Sherman, age 88 of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 1:08 a.m. in the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on March 16, 1922 in Lyndora, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas Galisin and Mary Durnak Galisin

Mrs. Sherman was a very loving wife, dedicated mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, flower gardening and reading her Bible. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and she taught Sunday School for many years. In 1940, she initiated the formation of the Lyndora Drum and Bugle Corp.

Mrs. Sherman is survived by three daughters, Carol Thomas and her husband Bob of Butler, Pennsylvania, Patti Schwabe of Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania and Charlotte "Cookie" Walls and her husband Reith of Poulsbo, Washington; one daughter-in-law, Viki Sherman of Butler, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Eric Thomas and his wife, Jean of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania Mark Thomas of Butler, Pennsylvania, Gail Purvis and her husband, Al of Freeport, Pennsylvania, Jill Aaron and her husband, Kevin of Butler, Michael Sherman of Butler, Pennsylvania, Raymond Schwabe II and his wife, Jennifer of Gahanna, Ohio, Andrew Schwabe and his wife, Rebecca of Gap, Pennsylvania, Sarah Obernberger and her husband, Matt of Poulsbo, Washington, and Reith Walls III and his wife, Amber of Omaha, Nebraska; eighteen great-grandchildren, Emily and Haley Thomas, Marky and Aylssa Thomas, Abigail and Savannah Purvis, Tyler, Nathan and Amelia Aaron, Kate Busby, Emily Harris, Faith Schwabe, Raymie and Alexa Schwabe, Ian Schwabe, Jaden and Miley Walls and Peyton Obernberger.

Mrs. Sherman was preceded in death by her husband, Mark F. "Barney" Sherman who she marriage on June 30, 1942 and who passed away on November 15, 2009. She was also proceded in death by one son, Mark Dennis "Denny " Sherman; one grandson, Scott Thomas; one son-in-law, Raymond Schwabe, Sr.; her parents, and also by two brothers and four sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Paul Cope of Mars Alliance Church and, Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Edna V. DeSantis

June 10, 1923 ~ May 15, 2010

Edna V. DeSantis, age 86 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 2:13 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.

Born June 10, 1923 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ray W. McDonald and Elva R. Donaldson McDonald.

Mrs. DeSantis worked as an Employment Interviewer for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Employment Security in Butler, Pennsylvania retiring on April 4, 1984. She was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. Mrs. DeSantis was a volunteer at Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Meals on Wheels and a member of Pennsylvania Associated of Retired State Employees.

Mrs. DeSantis is survived by one daughter, Cynthia J. DeSantis and her husband, Del Eury of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one brother, William R. McDonald of Silsbee, Texas; one sister, Alice M. Baker of Butler, Pennsylvania; one granddaughter, Kristin A. Lavery of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and also by four nieces and two nephews.

Mrs. DeSantis was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Greer DeSanits who passed away on December 9, 1998.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Howard F. Burrell of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, Pennsylvania 16023.

Frankie M. Blakeley

April 18, 1919 ~ May 17, 2010

Frankie M. Blakeley, age 91, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, Pennsylvania, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at 4:01 a.m. in the Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, Pennsylvania.

Born April 18, 1919 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. Varner and Hazel V. Painter Varner.

Mrs. Blakeley was a bookkeeper and had also been employed as a receptionist at Concordia Lutheran Ministries. She is a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Blakeley is survived by one sister, Sarah Maxine Bopp of Butler, Pennsylvania; two nieces, and also by two grand nieces and two grand nephews.

There will be no public visitation or funeral services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, Pennsylvania 16023.

Rosalie Joan Bayer Portman

July 30, 1938 ~ May 18, 2010

Rosalie Joan Bayer Portman, age, 71 died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 2:50 a.m. in the VNA In-Patient Hospice after a short illness, strong fight and a full life.

Born July 30, 1938 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late John Paul Bayer and Lucille Elizabeth Schaffner Bayer.

Rosalie was dedicated to her family as a full-time wife, mother and grandparent. She had a rich relationship with her son-in-law and daughter-in-law, James Lewis and Tami Portman. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and gave many hours to their care and involvement with their activities. She savored her special relationships with her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Most of her time was spent in reunion with her family celebrating with their ritual weekends at A.J.'s and Roe-Roe's home-farm. Her love of cooking was always evident when visiting her home. She had a special love of Schnauzer dogs and her loving pet Chaine. Her hobbies included, gardening, painting, antiquing, music and she possessed a unique talent in her sewing and costume making. Most of all many of her years were spent on her annual vacations at Marco Island loving the sun, beach, ocean and family. Lastly she had a unique way of caring for others and accommodating them with love and her constant giving. She retired from the SheLor School of Dance after 16 years as office manager, but never stopped being involved in the Dance Studio. Her life was certainly shortened too soon but her memories and impressions will live on.

Mrs. Portman is survived by her husband, Albert Joseph (AJ) Portman whom she marriage on November 22, 1956 and also by one son, John Portman and his wife Tami of Export, Pennsylvania, one daughter, Lori Portman-Lewis and her husband, Jim of Butler, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Evan Portman and Lucy Lewis, three step grandchildren, Michael, Hadie and Eric Lewis. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Lou Field of Butler, Pennsylvania; five nieces, six nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Portman was preceded in death by one daughter, Shelly Portman also by one brother, William J. Bayer.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with her son-in-law Reverend Jim Lewis of West Liberty United Methodist officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peters Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Paul Leroy Graham

September 25, 1945 ~ May 21, 2010

Surrounded by his loving family, Paul Leroy Graham, age 64, of Renfrew, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 9:50 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia in Cabot, Pennsylvania.

Born September 25, 1945 in he was the son of the late Paul N. Graham and the late Ruth V. Wigton Graham.

Mr. Graham was a member of St. Fedilis Catholic Church of Meridian. He was a 1963 graduate of Butler High School. He enjoyed building model ships from scratch, gardening, fishing, hunting, casinos, going to camp for forty-one years in Benezette, Pennsylvania with his family and took great pride in the fishing trips with his grandchildren who would catch more fish then he. He loved to travel and spent a lot of time with his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of Butler Moose Lodge #64. Slovak Sokol Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Butler # 249, Sons of the American Legion, Lyndora # 778, Butler Elks # 170, Italian Society, Colonie Luxenbourgeoise, Sinnenahoning Sportsmen's Association, Inc. of Sinnemahoning, Pennsylvania, AARP and the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Graham is survived by his by wife, Elizabeth (Betty) M. (Kalina) Graham of Butler, Pennsylvania whom he marriage at St. John's Roman Catholic Church of Lyndora on May 13, 1967; one daughter, Sharon E, Christy and her husband Brian L. of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son, Andrew P. Graham and his wife Laura J. of Cabot, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Graham is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica A. Clouse Graham, Travis R. Ritenour, Pennsylvania, Troy Ritenour and Alexandra M. Graham, Breann Christy, Ryan Christy of Butler. One brother, Dennis L. Graham and his wife, Gloria J. of Butler, Pennsylvania; number of sisters-in- laws and brothers -in- laws, number of nieces and nephews, and a number of aunts and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Karen Louise Graham who passed away March 25, 1953.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Fedilis Catholic Church of Meridian, Pennsylvania on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend James F. Murphy, Pastor of St. Fedilis Catholic Church of Meridian officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Charles Ernest "Ernie" Cawthorne

April 28, 1938 ~ May 22, 2010

Charles Ernest "Ernie" Cawthorne, Jr., age 72 of, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. in the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born April 28, 1938 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Charles Ernest Cawthorne and Alberta Yohe Cawthorne.

Mr. Cawthorne was a member of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was an Automotive Technician who worked at Butler County Motors and Mikan Motors retiring in 1971. He also was a self-employed orchard farmer. Mr. Cawthorne was in the United States Air Force where his rank was Airman First Class and he served in the Continental United States and Zaragoza, Spain. He enjoyed doing antique auto repair, gardening, hunting and fishing.

Mr. Cawthorne is survived by his wife, C. Deanna Cawthorne whom he marriage on September 7, 1962, one daughter, Kelley and her husband Scott Shreffler of Falls Church, Virginia; two grandchildren, Micah Allen Shreffler and Catharine Rowyn Shreffler of Falls Church, Virginia; one brother, Russell Cawthorne of Butler, Pennsylvania; one sister, Joanne Fejko of Butler, Pennsylvania; nine nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Cawthorne was preceded in death by two infant sons and one daughter, Catharine Kristen Cawthorne.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday May 24, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday May 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Merry H. Meloy of St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Mount Chestnut Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.

Officers and members of the American Legion Post #778 and the VFW Post #249 will conduct a graveside military service at Mt. Chestnut Cemetery.

Kevin L. Quinn

August 20, 1972 ~ June 10, 2010

Kevin L. Quinn, age 37 of Virginia Avenue died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 6:50 a.m. in the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

Kevin was born August 20, 1972 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of Ronald L. Quinn and Rosemary Hartle Quinn.

Kevin was a member of the New Beginnings Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing poker, and he loved to fish and play bingo.

Kevin is survived by his mother, Rosemary Hartle Quinn Stephenson and his step father Joseph C. of Prospect, Pennsylvania, maternal grandmother, Betty Hartle of Butler, Pennsylvania; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Also surviving are two step brothers, Gregory Stephenson and his wife Jaci of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Jeffery Stephenson and his wife Katie of Harmony, Pennsylvania, one step sister, Lisa Shedio and her husband Ryan of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, one step niece and two step nephews.

In addition to his father he was also preceded in death by one brother, Gregory L. Quinn.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, June 14, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the New Beginnings Free Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Matthew Perkins of New Beginnings Free Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.
