Violet Catherine "Sis" Leise Cratty, age 91, of Franklin Township, died at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born April 2, 1919, in Portersville, Muddy Creek Township, she was the daughter of the late Mary "Tillie" (Barkley) Leise and Howard "Pete" Leise.
On June 4, 1943, at the home of Rev. George Cheeseman of Portersville, she marriage W. Blair Cratty of Franklin Township. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1991.
Mrs. Cratty was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Prospect, the Keenagers of Portersville and the Mt. Chestnut Senior Center. Her life was devoted to helping her husband on the farm, raising their children, tending her garden and fruit trees--along with canning and freezing. She appreciated beautiful flowers, was an avid reader of non-fiction books and was an enthusiastic fan of country music and of photography.
Surviving are three children, Marian E. Talbert of Eau Claire, H. Gordon (Dawn) Cratty of Franklin Township, Butler, and Nancy E. (Erich) Vierthaler of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Julie Graham, Eric (Diedra) Graham, Marc Talbert, Richard (Marcy) and Brian Talbert and nine great-grandchildren, Robyn, Jonathan, and Anthony Graham, David, Karri, Dakota, Shannon, Ronan, and Jayce Talbert. She is also survived by one sister, Joan (Jack) Courtney of Prospect, three brothers, Glenn Leise of Volant, James (Barbara) Leise of Slippery Rock, Roy (Margaret) Leise of Portersville, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two infant sons, one sister, Blanche Durnell, and a brother, Hope Leise.
Funeral service were held privately held at the family's request.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Community Library, 357 Main Street, Prospect, Pennsylvania, 16052.

Judith E. Hemphill, age 68, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 6, 1941 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late J. Walter Engel and the late Marion Wilson.
Mrs. Hemphill was a homemaker and she was a beautician and owned her own shop. She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church. Beforehand, she was a very active member of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Neil R. Hemphill; one son, Christopher Robert Warner of Butler, Pennsylvania; one grandson; one step-grandson and one step-granddaughter; two step-sons, Mark Roger Hemphill of Prospect, Pennsylvania and Kenneth H. Hemphill of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by one sister, Jeanne Lower of Clifton Springs, New York.
Mrs. Hemphill was preceded in death by one step-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at the Butler County Memorial Park with Reverend Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating.

Lois Mae (McDeavitt) Greenway

Lois Mae (McDeavitt) Greenway, age 92, formerly of Mercer Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11:10 a.m. in Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Born November 26, 1917 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Berton McDeavitt and the late Meda Mae (Wimer) McDeavitt.
Mrs. Greenway was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting and reading. She loved her family and researching her family genealogy.
Mrs. Greenway is survived by two sons, Larry Greenway and his wife, Joyce, of Cabot, Pennsylvania and Glenn Greenway and his wife, Loren, of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Mona Henricks and her husband, James, of Grove City, Pennsylvania and Nancy Ford and her husband, Edward, of Butler, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren, James Henricks and Eric Henricks, Cheryl McAnallen, Lisa Webster, Linda Eperthener, Reverend Berton Greenway, Elaine Meals, Denise Fair, Edward Ford and Douglas Ford, and Lily Greenway; twenty-two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; one brother, Richard McDeavitt and his wife, Monica, of Elizabethtown,, Kentucky; one sister, Rita Jacobs and her husband, Kenneth, of Baldwinsville, New York and by seven nieces and eight nephews.
Mrs. Greenway was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon R. "Red" Greenway, who was deceased on October 14, 1993 and by one brother, one sister and an infant great granddaughter.

Thomas J. Duggan

Thomas J. Duggan, 78 of Meridian beloved husband, father and grandfather died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with his wife by his side.
Born July 21, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York he was the son of the late Charles and the late Marion Aylward Duggan.
Mr. Duggan was a Land Surveyor for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church. He was a volunteer for Bellmore Fire Dept. for over 25 years. He was an active volunteer for the St. Fidelis Church fish fry. He enjoyed being with family and having dinner with friends. Mr. Duggan also enjoyed swimming, gardening, reading, sports, fishing, hiking with family at Letchworth State Park in N.Y., watching the grandchildren grow. Mr. Duggan was a Corporal in the United States Army 1st Infantry serving in Germany.
Mr. Duggan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois whom he marriage on May 14, 1960. By one son, Thomas W. Duggan and his wife Barbara of Butler; two daughters, Tracey Nevel and her husband Tom of Meridian, and Linda Harris and her husband Michael of Bradford Woods, six grandchildren, Meghan and Matthew Duggan, Marissa, Matthew, and Michael Harris; Jennifer Nevel.
Mr. Duggan was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Ruth L. Dietrich Age 94, of Orchard Manor Nursing Home Grove City, Pennsylvania. formerly of East Penn St. Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday June 2, 2010 at 4:45 p.m. in the Orchard Manor Nursing Home.
Born November 23, 1915, in Omaha, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius Martin and Florence Hilton Rice.
She was a homemaker, private piano and organ teacher. She was a member of the Christian Endeavor movement since the 1930's and served many years as the missionary superintendent in CE. She was pianist and organist, as well as Sunday school teacher in her church, the former Bethany United Church of Christ. She was also a member of AARP. Ruth also served for many years as PTA president at Emily Brittain Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Leroy Dietrich who died September 8, 1989 two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by three sons: Vernon Lee Dietrich of Peninsula, Ohio, Kenneth E. Dietrich and his wife JoAnn of Greenville, Pennsylvania, and Norman G. Dietrich and his wife Jane of Hudson, Ohio, two daughters: Mrs. J. Edgar (Elaine) Rynd of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Jonathan (Joyce) Stehle of Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania and nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Friends and family of Ruth L. Dietrich will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday June 4, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral Services will be from the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday June 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James Ishler pastor of the former Bethany United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

William "Bill" Loniel Hays

William "Bill" Loniel Hays, 84 of Oak Harbor, OH, formerly of Butler, PA, died June 10, 2010 in the Riverview Care Center, Oak Harbor, OH.
Born July 22, 1925 in Butler, PA, son of the late William Henderson Hays and Kathryn Stoll Hays.
Mr. Hays worked for Pullman Standard and Koch Hardware. He attended Trinity Presbyterian Church and Christ Community Methodist Church, Butler, PA. Mr. Hays was in the United States Navy serving in World War II. He was a member of Victory Lodge #694 F.&A.M. for over 50 years, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, a life member of the D.A.V. Post #64.
Mr. Hays is survived by one daughter, Carol (Thomas) Osborne of Lakeside, OH and one granddaughter, Vanessa Osborne (Reif) Blackburn of Lakewood, OH.
Mr. Hays was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Julia Hays who passed away on Aug. 29, 2000.
We ask that all friends and family join us for a "Celebration of Life" on Sat. June 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park. Military services will be conducted. A luncheon for all will follow at Dingbats.

Esther Louise Watson, age 92 of Valley View Dr. formerly of Weckerly Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at 1:44 a.m. in the Sugar Creek Rest Home.
Born November 5, 1917 in East Pike Run, Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Everett Abercrombie and Agnes Dobby Spence.
Mrs. Watson was a homemaker. She attended North Street Christian Church. She worked for 25 years at small corner store on Wayne Street which over the years went by the names Toners, Accords and Bartell.
Mrs. Watson is survived by three granddaughters, Pamela Weichey and her husband Curt of Butler, Pennsylvania, Patricia L. Sibble and her husband, Brian of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Gail D. Hutzley and her husband, Steve of Derry New Hampshire, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and also by a number of nieces and nephews; former daughter-in-law Connie (Murphy) Catt of Port Huron, Michigan. And also by her dear friend Judy Grenet of 53 years as well as many other life long friends.
Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Watson who passed away on May 4, 1994 and also by one son, Robert P. Watson, one sister, Mrs. Bernice Huber and three brothers, Paul Abercrombie, Leon Abercrombie and Wilbur Abercrombie.
