Clyde S. Newcome, 82, of 188 Blakely Road died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brookville, Jefferson County, Aug. 18, 1918, he was the son of John E. and Mina Burkett Newcome.
He retired as a self-employed floor and tile contractor. He previously had worked in the shipyards in San Francisco, Calif., and at Spang & Co., C.R. Kriner Floor Co. and Center Avenue Floor Co., all of Butler.
Mr. Newcome attended the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Groves Newcome, whom he married June 15, 1945; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Varnum, Ms. Bonnie K. Newcome and Mrs. Arthur W. (Cherie) Schultz, all of Butler; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A sister, Mrs. Margaret Hummel of Rockland, Calif.; three brothers, Lewis Huber of Summerville, Ore.; Floyd Huber of Butler and Harold Huber of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A brother preceded him in death.

Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.
Linda L. Miller
Linda L. Miller, 52, of Chicora died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Chicora Medical Center after a short illness.
Born in Butler, Jan. 21, 1949, she was the daughter of Robert J. Mary E. Tilko Hovis.
She worked in the circulation department at the Butler Eagle for three years.
Mrs. Miller attended St. John’s Reformed Church, Chicora.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. James (Liberty) Edgar of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Mark (Tracy) Deal of Fairview and Mrs. Michael (Melissa Jo) Sigworth of Bruin; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Horacio (Julie) Cornea of Miami, Fla., and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Leona Miller of Chicora, with whom she had made her home; two sisters, Mrs. Michael (Carol) Morgus of Butler and Susan Hovis of Kane; two brothers, Robert Hovis of California and David Hovis of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, George R. Miller, whom she married Dec. 24, 1966, died June 17, 1991. A granddaughter and a sister also preceded her in death.
MILLER - Friends of Linda L. Miller, who died Saturday, June 2, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at STEIGHNER FUNERAL ROME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Rowe, pastor of Petrolia United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Hemphill Cemetery , Chicora.
Kelly A. Lopez
Kelly A. Lopez, 21, of 423 W. New Castle St. died Saturday in the trauma unit of Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, of injuries received in an auto accident. Her unborn son, Anthony Michael Lopez, also died in the accident.
Born Jan. 26, 1980, in New Brunswick, N.J., she was the daughter of Felix and Kathleen A. Lopez.
She was a 1998 graduate of Piscataway Vocational-Technical School, Piscataway, N.J., where she majored in cosmetology and hairstyling and had been class president and prom queen.
Ms. Lopez was the 1987 Poppy Queen and the 1995 Loyalty Day Queen for the VFW in Milltown, N.J.
She had been a part-time cashier at Marshall’s Department Store in New Jersey for about four years.
She was Roman Catholic and attended St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Butler.
Surviving are her mother of Butler; her father of East Brunswick, N.J.; a brother, Felix K. Lopez of Butler; a sister, Amy D. Lopez Rinker of Butler; her maternal grandfather, Gerald C. Rinker of Trenton, N.J.; and her paternal grandmother, Guillermina Rivera of Catano, Puerto Rico. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
LOPEZ - There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for Kelly A. and Anthony Michael Lopez, who died Saturday, June 2, 2001, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Franklin Street. The Rev. Jack Nanz, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery .
The Women’s Council of St. Peter Parish will recite the rosary at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Roy Arthur Kemery Sr.
Roy Arthur Kemery Sr., 67, of Emlenton R.D. 3 died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at United Community Hospital, Grove City.
Born Dec. 19, 1933, in East Brady, Clarion County, he was a son of Howard R. and Pearl I. Waterson Kemery.
He was a heavy equipment operator at various coal companies.
Mr. Kemery was a Protestant.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, June Gordon Kemery, whom he married June 10, 1954; three sons, Roy Kemery Jr. of Emlenton R.D. 2, Roger Kemery of St. Petersburg, Clarion County, and Ronald Kemery of Rimersburg; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Stalker of Boyers and Mrs. Michael (Judy) Gates of Groton, Conn.; and 15 grandchildren. A brother, William Kemery of Emlenton R.D. 3; and a sister, Louise. Freeman of Mercer, also survive.

Services were today at WILLIAM N. RUPERT MORTUARY, Knox. The Rev. Charles Campbell, pastor of New Zion Evangelical Church, officiated. Burial followed at Emlenton Cemetery .
Shirley Hubstenberger
Shirley M. Hubstenberger, 65, of Adams Township died Sunday at her home.
Born in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Dec. 20, 1935, she was the daughter of Ward and Dorothy Kirscht Steinmetz.
She retired as a nurse at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mrs. Hubstenberger served as a nurse in the Women’s Army Corp. during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of captain.
Surviving are her husband Ernest Hubstenberger Jr., whom she married May 24, 1969; a son, Ernest Hubstenberger Ill., of Adams Township; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Lou Sherry of Emlenton.
HUBSTENBERGER - Friends of Shirley M. Hubstenberger, who died Sunday, June 3, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Avenue, Mars. A blessing service will follow at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will at Mars Cemetery , Adams Township.
Michael P. Strecansky
Michael P. Strecansky, 78, of Farrell, Mercer County, died at 8:01 a.m. Monday at Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 17, 1922, in Sharpsville, Mercer County, he was the son of Joseph and Mano Strecansky.
He retired in 1973 from the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell Plant, where he worked as a rigger for more than 20 years.
A member of St. Ann’s Church in Farrell, he enjoyed fishing and golfing.
He was a member of the Sharon Steel Golf League and the Jai Alai Golf League.
He enjoyed gardening and showed flowers at the East Liverpool Flower Show, where he won many awards.
He was a World War II veteran, enlisting in 1940 with the U.S. Coast Guard. He served on board an Army freight supply ship in the Philippines and also served on the North Atlantic Patrol in Greenland prior to being transferred to the southwest Pacific.
His ship carried supplies to Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s forces. He received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.
He was a member of the VFW Post 5286.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gallagher Strecansky, whom he married Aug. 10, 1949.
Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Francis (Terrie) Lunn of Butler; a sister, Cecelia Beyth of Sharpsville; a brother, Andrew Strecansky of Cleveland; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
STRECANSKY - Friends of Michael P. Strecansky, who died Monday, June 4, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the J. BRADLEY MCGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME, 1090 E. State St., Sharon. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Richard Tomasone officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery , Hermitage, with full military honors.
Clifford R. Reed
Clifford R. Reed, 86, of Metzger Avenue died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday at Sunnyview Home after a long illness.
Born in West Kittanning on Oct. 27, 1914, he was the son of David B. Reed and Cora A. Wiant Reed.
He was a graduate of Rimersburg High School and worked 25 years as a printer and compositor for the Rimersburg Record.
Moving to Butler in 1980, he retired after 25 years with the Butler Eagle as a printer-compositor.
He belonged to Typographical Union No. 415 and was a past president.
He was a charter member of the Calvary Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Voyagers Class and served as a Sunday school teacher and elder.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Medical Corps. He had been a prisoner of war in Stalag, Germany. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the G.O. 7 Hg 33 First Infantry Reg. 44, the American Theater Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He received an honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant on Nov. 21, 1945.
He was a member of the Butler Eagle Retirees Group and the AARP.
He enjoyed working with wood, traveling and fishing, as well as boating and sailing.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lillian L. Young Reed, whom he married Nov. 28, 1946, at the Rimersburg Reformed Church.
Also surviving is a son, the Rev. James Reed of North Carolina; two daughters, Mrs. Jon (Kathleen) Macrina and Mrs. David (Annette) Burns, ; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
REED - Friends of Clifford R. Reed, who died Sunday, June 3, 2001, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. L. Michael Winship, pastor of Calvary Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and Mr. Reed’s son, the Rev. James Reed, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Earl E. Meray
Earl E. Meray, 67, of Cranberry Township died Sunday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born July 29, 1933, in Barnesboro, Cambria County, he was the son of Mary Maines Meray and the late Joseph Meray.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War.
Mr. Meray was a retired postal clerk.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2249 in Cranberry Township.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Kleinhenz Meray, whom he married Feb. 27, 1971.
Also surviving are a daughter, Debra Harnel of Altoona; two brothers, Robert Meray and Timothy Meray, both of Northern Cambria, Pa.; two sisters, Gail Bailey of Northern Cambria and Dolores Shahan of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
MERAY - Friends of Earl E. Meray, who died Sunday, June 3, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at GLENN-KILDOO CRANBERRY CHAPEL, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerry Davis officiating. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park, Cranberry Township.
Elks Lodge 2249 will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Annabelle Lee Marte
Annabelle Lee Marte, 60, of 233 Vogel Road died at 10:10 a.m. Monday at her home.
Born in Kellersburg, Armstrong County, July 17, 1940, she was the daughter of Lester Ellsworth and Flossie Margaret Young Sanford.
She was a 1958 graduate of Redbank Valley High School, New Bethlehem, where she had been an All-State basketball champion. She was a 1961 alumna of Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh; received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1976 from Slippery Rock State College, now Slippery Rock University, and her master’s degree in nursing from Duquesne University in 1977.
Mrs. Marte retired as associate chief of nursing services at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She previously worked at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Butler Memorial Hospital and the Highland Drive Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Pittsburgh.
She received the Distinguished Liaison Award from LAHEC representing the Butler VA Medical Center.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Pennsylvania and American Nurses associations, the American Red Cross and Sigma Theta Tau honorary nursing fraternity.
She had been a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed crafts, traveling and dancing and belonged to the Butler Two Steppers.
From 1962 to 1968, she served with the U.S. Army in Germany, Fort Dix, N.J., and Hawaii and was a captain.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Jay G. Marte, whom she married Aug. 24, 1967; a daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Jennifer Ann) Patton of Harrisville; a son, Timothy Jay Marte of Spring, Texas; and two granddaughters.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Gale (Elsie) Hopper of Templeton, Mrs. David (Geraldine) Krause of North Tonawanda, N.Y., and Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Gallo of New Bethlehem; and a brother, Paul Sanford of Templeton; and Mrs. Miriam Craig of Callensburg, Mrs. Carl (Barbara) McCall of Parker, and Mrs. James (Sandra) Olson of Seneca, all who provided care during her early life.
An infant brother preceded her in death.
