Jean L. Sloan, 82, of Clearwater, Fla., died Sunday May 6, 2001, at Integrated Health Services in Clearwater.
She was the daughter of Emmett and Grace Kennedy, and had lived in Zelienople until 1957.
She is survived by her husband, Merle E. Sloan; and a daughter and son, Cheryll Wells and Edward Sloan, all of Clearwater. Also surviving are a sister, Marella “Detta” Senn of Zelienople; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Margaret E. Maze
Margaret E. Schrecengost Maze, 76, of 238 Constitution Ave., Connoquenessing, died Monday afternoon at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born June 22, 1924, in Mayport, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Lemuel E. and Nannie C. Lucas Schrecengost.
She was a Protestant.
Surviving are two daughters, Candy C. Maze who made her home with her mother, and Ms. J. Marie Rettig of Slippery Rock; a sister, Mrs. Joyce Kohler of Butler; a half-sister, Ms. Louise Troup of Fairmont City, Clarion County; two brothers, Clifford Schrecengost of Renfrew and Lemuel Schrecengost, of Seminole, Armstrong County; and four half-brothers Richard Dinger of Altoona, Gary Dinger of Fairmont City, Clarion County, Roger Dinger of Rochester Mills, Indiana County, and Fred Dinger of Summerville, Jefferson County. Three grandchildren, including Mindy Jo Maze, who made her home with her grandmother, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Her husband, Chester H. Maze, died Nov. 3, 1994. Four sisters and four brothers also preceded her in death.
MAZE - Friends of Margaret E. Schrecengost, who died Monday, May 14, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at KINSEY-VOIZ FUNERAL HOME, Evans City. Funeral services will follow at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Park, pastor of Westminster United Presbyterian Church of Evans City, will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
Betty J. Lannen
Betty J. Lannen, 83, of State College, formerly of Philipsburg in Centre County, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Centre Community Hospital.
Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Wesley and Blanche Meadville Moses.
She was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and had been a sales clerk at various Philipsburg businesses.
Mrs. Lannen was a member of First Church of Christ in Philipsburg.
She enjoyed her miniature Yorkshire terriers.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Lannen of Butler and Thomas C. Lannen of Tyrone; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Thomas A. Lannen, whom she married in 1938, died in 1980. She also was preceded in death by a grandson.
There will be no public visitation, funeral or burial.
Arrangements are under the direction of MARK D. HEINTZELMAN FUNERAL SERVICE, Centre Hall, Pa.
Mildred Esther Jordan
Mildred Esther Jordan, 84, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, formerly of Perry Township, Clarion County, died of natural causes Monday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 27, 1916, in Perry Township, she was the daughter of Israel Clyde and Catherine Barger Jordan.
She was a Lutheran.
Miss Jordan and her brothers and sisters owned and operated the Jordan farm near Dutch Hill in Clarion County all their adult lives until they retired.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Mae Kriebel of Butler and Margaret Ruth Jordan of Concordia Lutheran Ministries and a number of nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, a sister and an infant sister preceded her in death.
JORDAN - Friends of Mildred Esther Jordan, who died Monday, May 14, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Wayne Street, Parker. Raymond S. Carver
Raymond S. Carver, 81, of Butler died at 9:10 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at Sunnyview Home.
Born Nov. 12, 1919, in Butler, he was a son of Sherman Monroe and Laura Mae Snow Carver.
Mr. Carver was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, and had served in World War II.
He was a retired steelworker and was a former member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Mr. Carver is survived by a stepdaughter, Elsie Malone of Las Vegas; a stepson, Ronald Reynolds of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Frances) Rumbaugh of Las Vegas; a grandson, whom he raised, Charles Kolich of Baton Rouge, La.; and his caregiver, Betty Rieger of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorotha Iona Hepler Carver, whom he married June 21, 1950, and who died March 10, 1999; and two brothers.
Services will be private, as will be the burial in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being made by the YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, Butler.
Clara Ruth Tinker
Clara Ruth Tinker, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Butler and West Sunbury, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.
Born April 13, 1909, in Butler County, she was the daughter of James T. and Lida Jane Albert McCandless.
She was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Butler and Glenwood Methodist Church of Wyandotte, Mich.
She was a 1927 graduate of Slippery Rock Normal School, now Slippery Rock University, and received her master’s degree in education from Wayne State University.
Mrs. Tinker had been a teacher for 44 years and had taught in the Butler area and in Wyandotte.
She is survived by son, A. James Tinker of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Dorothy Henderson of Grove City and Lucille Naugle of New Castle, also survive.
Her husband, Wilkins Z. Tinker, died Oct. 7, 1945. Two brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
TINKER - Friends of Clara Ruth Tinker, who died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME 127 W. Bruce ‘Murf’ Stark
Bruce “Murf” Stark, 48, of Clinton Township died at 4:17 a.m. Tuesday at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.
Born in Natrona Heights, April 4, 1953, he was the son of James W. and Nettie Miller Stark.
A graduate of Knoch High School, he worked as a truck driver for McClymonds Supply and Transit of Portersville and John W. Thrower of Saxonburg.
Mr. Stark was a member of the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed fishing and singing.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Davis Stark, whom he married Dec. 21, 1984; two daughters, Shelley Stark of West Sunbury and Crystal Stark of Petrolia; two stepdaughters, Evonne Carnahan of Sewickley and Teree Gail Matthews of Kittanning; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are his parents of Sarver; and two sisters, Mrs. Alan (Janet) Bochek of Cheswick and Mrs. Joseph (Cheryl) Criswell of Sarver.

Edna P. Gelsdorf Piper, 87, of Zelienople, formerly of Latrobe, died Tuesday.
Born June 11, 1913, in Derry, Westmoreland County, she was the daughter of Edward Sr. and Sara Dora Mann Gelsdorf.
She is survived by two sons, Timothy Piper of Santa Rosa, Calif., and William Piper of Uniontown; a sister, Mary Alice Piper; a brother, Donald Gelsdorf; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. “Bill” Piper Sr., a son, a sister, a brother and a great-grandson.

Dennis F. Piper
Dennis F. Piper, 41, of Zelienople died Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born March 29, 1960, in Butler, he was the son of Delores Buffington Piper LaSota and the late Frank Piper.
He was a maintenance man and an occasional disc jockey.
Mr. Piper was a member of Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed playing pool.
He is survived by two sons, Jacob S. and Drew Piper, both of Portersville; and a daughter, Mandy L. Piper of Ellwood City. Also surviving are his mother of Cranberry Township; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Debbie) McCorkle of Knox and Mrs. Randall (Diane) Marburger of Duncansville, Blair County; and a half sister, Mrs. Terry (Mary) Derrick of Pittsburgh.
He was preceded in death by a brother.

Nancy E. McKain
Nancy E. McKain, 62, of 402 Piper Lane died at 2:20 p.m. Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Butler, Nov. 12, 1938, she was the daughter of Eugene and Mary Steinhiser Young.
She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1959 and retired in 1998 as a registered nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. McKain was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. She also belonged to the YMCA.
An active volunteer, she taught the wellness program at Slippery Rock University and computer classes to elderly residents of Concordia Lutheran Ministries. She also volunteered at the Butler Public Library.
She is survived by a son, Rick McKain of Butler; a daughter, Mrs. Denis (Tammy) Wilson of Trinity, Fla., her twin brother, the Rev. Dismas Young, O.F.M., Cap., of Export; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Richard E. McKain, died Dec. 27, 1997. A brother also preceded her in death.
McKAIN - Friends of Nancy E. McKain, who died Monday, May 14, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Her twin brother, the Rev. Dismas Young, O.F.M., Cap., of St. Mary Catholic Church of Export, will officiate. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.
Members of the St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Thursday at the church to recite the rosary.
