Samuel J. Vignone, 88, formerly of Butler and a longtime resident of Beaver Falls, died Monday in Columbus, Ohio, at the home of his stepdaughter, Marie Choate.
Born March 23, 1913, in Vandergrift, Westmoreland County, he was the son of January and Theresa Pugliese Retacco.
He had done carpentry work for the Association for the Blind.
Mr. Vignone was a member of St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church, Beaver Falls.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Ann Horstman Vignone.
Surviving are a stepson, Kevin J. Raisley of Columbus; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Richard (Deborah Lynn) Maynard and Mrs. Joseph (Marie Ann) Choate, both of Columbus, and Mrs. George (Tammie Sue) Maubach of Alexandria, Ohio, five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He also is survived by three brothers, Ralph F. Vignone of Butler County, Andrew Vignone of Carthage, N.Y., and John Vignone of Butler; and a sister, Mrs. Louise Jeffrey of Dorseyville.
VIGNONE - Friends of Samuel J. Vignone, who died Monday, May 14, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at LUTTON FUNERAL HOME, 1117 Fifth Ave., Beaver Falls. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Mass or Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. Friday St. Philomena Catholic Church, Beaver Falls. The Rev. David Scharf will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery , Chippewa Township, Beaver County.
The rosary will be recited at 3:30 today at the funeral home.
A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gladys Lenora Schlagel
Gladys Lenora Schlagel, 69, of Butler died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1931, in Claytonia, Clay Township, she was the daughter of Wilbur Curtis and Lillian Jane Bell Stevenson.
She had been a dishwasher and cook at Bonetti Nursing Home, now Autumn Grove, in Harrisville.
She was a member of the Butler Church of God.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce Schlagel of Prospect and Larry Schlagel of West Sunbury; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her mother, of Harrisville, and a brother, Wilbur Stevenson of Butler.
Three brothers preceded her in death.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at West Sunbury Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Charles R. Myers
Charles R. Myers, 77, of Winfield Township died Wednesday at his home.
Born in Freeport, May 29, 1923, he was the son of Boyd and Carrie Baker Myers.
He retired as a leveler operator at Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge after 41 years.
Mr. Myers was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Natrona Heights VFW Post 894.
He enjoyed gardening, traveling and camping.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice Reinhold Myers, whom he married July 15, 1950; four sons, Charles E. Myers of Sarver, Dennis L. and Ronald D. Myers, both of Lower Burrell, and Ray A Myers of Butler; and a granddaughter. He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Burchill of Cochranton and Mrs. Goldie Myers of Natrona Heights; and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Don (Karen) Zakrewski of Natrona Heights.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
MYERS - Friends of Charles R. Myers, who died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis Swineford, pastor of Cabot United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery .
Full graveside military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 894.

Ada Jean Mackin Gage
Ada Jean Mackin Gage, 69, of El Macero, Calif., died April 12, 2001.
Born Nov. 24, 1931, in Butler, she was the daughter of James and Fiordinda Mackin.
She was raised in Butler and lived in Raleigh, N.C., before she moved to El Macero in 1966.
Mrs. Gage was a member of the El Macero Country Club, Novel Reader Book Club, El Macero Republican Women, Friends of the University of California-Davis Presents, Davis Flower Arrangers and St. James Catholic Church.
She enjoyed golf, bridge and tennis and was an avid world traveler.
Her husband, John Gordon Gage Sr., died Dec. 6, 1987.
She is survived by two sons, John Gordon Gage III and James Gregory Gage, both of Sacramento; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and her companion, Dan Louis of Sacramento and Davis. Also surviving are two brothers, Elmer and Alvin Mackin, both of Butler.
A memorial Mass was at St. James Catholic Church, El Macero. Private burial will be at North Side Cemetery , Butler.

John A. Fleishner
John A Fleishner, 85, of Evans City died Tuesday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born June 27, 1915, in Etna, Allegheny County, he was the son of John and Mary Selinski Fleishner.
He had retired as steel truck driver.
Mr. Fleishner served in the Navy during World War II.
His son, John L. Fleishner, of Saxonburg; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild survive.
He was preceded in death by a sister.

Leon C. Hinds
Leon C. Hinds, 79, of Grove City died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday at United Community Hospital, Grove City, after a brief illness.
Born in Grove City, Nov. 1, 1922, he was the son of Charles O. and Carrie Sowers Hinds.
In 1985, he retired as a printer at the Sun News newspaper in Springfield, Ohio. He began his career as a printer at the Grove City Reporter Herald in 1940; and after World War II, he worked at the Butler Printery and then was a printer at the Butler Eagle for more than 20 years.
Mr. Hinds was a member of the First Church of God, Grove City.
During World War II, he was a staff sergeant with the 1532nd Army-Air Force Base Unit in the Pacific Theater Air Transport Command.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Brandon Hinds, whom he married Feb. 1, 1946; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (April) Couch of Richfield, Minn., and Mrs. Alicia Caldwell of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Helen Snyder of Grove City; and two brothers, Walter Hinds of Greenville and Lawrence Hinds. Three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Two brothers preceded him in death.

James F. Morgan
James F. Morgan, 82, of Butler, formerly of Bakerstown, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 22, 1919, in North Point, Indiana County, he was the son of Elias and Ethel Magee Morgan.
He had retired from Mount Royal Cemetery , Glenshaw.
Mr. Morgan was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Morgan-Olson of New York, N.Y.; and two sisters, Ruth Neal of Pembrook Pines, Fla., and Wiletta McNutt of New Kensington.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Curry Morgan, who died in 1986; and his second wife, Emma Morgan, who died in 1994.
There will be no visitation. Private burial and services will be at West Sunbury Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Harold F. ‘Bunk’ Korn
Harold F. “Bunk” Korn, 74, of Middlesex Township died Tuesday at his home.
Born Feb. 7, 1927, in Fairview Township, he was the son of Warren and Jennie Rankin Korn.
He had retired from Koppers in Monroeville and from the Butler Auto Auction in Cranberry Township.
Mr. Korn was a member of the American Legion Post 117 of Butler, the Mars VFW Memorial Association and Saxonburg Fire Company.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Dee Patten Korn; six children, Michael Korn of Butler, Thomas Korn of North East, Melissa Nelson of Mars, Jennie Korn of Butler, Galen McManus of Gibsonia and David McManus of Butler; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
His former wife, Rita Korn; two half-brothers; and two sisters preceded him in death.

Lona L. Craig
Lona L. Craig, 80, of Victory Township, Venango County, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a long illness,
Born in Grove City, Aug. 12, 1921, she was the daughter of Edythe Shipton.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting Depression glass and floral gardening.
Mrs. Craig was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall of Sandy Lake and attended the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Franklin.
She was the first Democratic Party judge of elections for Victory Township and had been active in the Victory School PTA for years.
Surviving are her husband, Dale R. Craig, whom she married May 31, 1941; a son, Ronald D. Craig of Gahanna, Ohio; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are close friends Carolyn S. Craig and Gary L. Snyder.
A daughter preceded her in death.

Charles W. Adams
Charles W. Adams, 77, of Harmony, formerly of Parker, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Passavant Hospital, McCandless, after a long illness.
Born Aug. 22, 1924, in Parker, he was the son of Clifford A. and Minnie C. Jones Adams.
He retired as a mail carrier at Parker Post Office after more than 30 years.
Mr. Adams was a member of the Parker Presbyterian Church, where he was a trustee for several years. He was active in the Clearfield Recreation Association in Parker and was a former member of Foxburg Country Club. He was a member and past worshipful master of the Parker City Lodge 521 F&AM, New Castle Consistory, Syria Shrine and VFW Post 7073 and American Legion Post 598, both of Parker.
He was an Army-Air Force staff sergeant during World War II and flew 43 missions as a nose-gunner on B-24s in the Pacific theater. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with three Oak Clusters, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with six Bronze Stars.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Ruth Ann) Graham of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Mike (Debra) Cook of Parker and Mrs. Robert (Melinda) Sample of Harmony; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
His wife, Ruth V. Brosnahan Adams, whom he married Sept. 9, 1946, died Oct. 14, 2000. He also was preceded in death by three brothers.
There will be no public visitation. Private funeral services and burial will be this week. Burial will be at Parker Presbyterian Cemetery .
