James C. Meyers, 80, of Zelienople died Tuesday at Ellwood City Hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1920, in Zelienople, he was the son of Carl C. and Hazel Duffy Meyers.
He had owned and operated Isalys dairy store on Main Street in Zelienople with his wife, retiring in 1979 after 33 years.
Mr. Meyers was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church of Zelienople and Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM.
He was an avid boater and enjoyed traveling in his RV.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
His wife, Margaret “Peg” Meyers, died Oct. 11, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Carl Meyers of Florida and Denny Meyers of Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Christopher (Susan) Arnold of Zelienople; and five grandchildren. A brother, Jay Myers of Iowa and a sister, Dorothy Hall also survive.
Funeral services were today at Seaman Memorial Chapel, Passavant Health Center, Zelienople. Entombment was at Zelienople Community Mausoleum.
Memorial donations may be made to Zelienople Area Public Library, 227 S. High St., Zelienople, PA 16063.

Paul R. Kelly
Paul R. Kelly, 85, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Evans City and Millvale, died Wednesday morning, June 6, 2001, at Grove Manor, Grove City.
Born Jan. 25, 1916, in the Mount Troy area of Pittsburgh, he was the son of Paul R. and Sarah I. Sullivan Kelly.
He attended the Westminster United Presbyterian Church while living in Evans City and was a member of the American Legion Post 393 of Slippery Rock and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Also he was involved in the Foster Grandparent Program.
Mr. Kelly was retired as a butcher and had worked in various supermarkets.
He was an Army private first class in the 685th Port Co. during World War II and received the European-African-Middle-Eastern Service Metal with two bronze stars and a bronze arrowhead.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa R. Fink Kelly, and nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park, Cranberry Township.
Arrangements are being handled by KINSEY-VOLZ FUNERAL HOME, Evans City.
Annabelle Lee Marte
Annabelle Lee Marte, 60, of 233 Vogel Road died at 10:10 a.m. Monday at her home.
Born in Kellersburg, Armstrong County, July 17, 1940, she was the daughter of Lester Ellsworth and Flossie Margaret Young Sanford.
She was a 1958 graduate of Redbank Valley High School, New Bethlehem, where she had been an All-State basketball champion. She was a 1961 alumna of Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh; received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1976 from Slippery Rock State College, now Slippery Rock University, and her master’s degree in nursing from Duquesne University in 1977.
Mrs. Marte retired as associate chief of nursing services at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She previously worked at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Butler Memorial Hospital and the Highland Drive Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Pittsburgh.
She received the Distinguished Liaison Award from LAHEC representing the Butler VA Medical Center.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Pennsylvania and American Nurses associations, the American Red Cross and Sigma Theta Tau honorary nursing fraternity.
She had been a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed crafts, traveling and dancing and belonged to the Butler Two Steppers.
From 1962 to 1968, she served with the U.S. Army in Germany, Fort Dix, N.J., and Hawaii and was a captain.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Jay G. Marte, whom she married Aug. 24, 1967; a daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Jennifer Ann) Patton of Harrisville; a son, Timothy Jay Marte of Spring, Texas; and two granddaughters.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Gale (Elsie) Hopper of Templeton, Mrs. David (Geraldine) Krause of North Tonawanda, N.Y., and Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Gallo of New Bethlehem; and a brother, Paul Sanford of Templeton; and Mrs. Miriam Craig of Callensburg, Mrs. Carl (Barbara) McCall of Parker, and Mrs. James (Sandra) Olson of Seneca, all who provided care during her early life.
An infant brother preceded her in death.
MARTE - Friends of Annabelle Lee Marte, who died Monday, June 4, 2001, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Philip Williams, her church pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery .
Paul M. Henry
Paul M. Henry, 80, of East Brady died Wednesday at his home.
Born Nov. 7, 1922, in East Brady, he was the son of Henry C. and Marie E. Wienand Henry.
A 1940 graduate of East Brady High School, he was a water tender second class in the Coast Guard during World War II and received an American Area Campaign Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
Mr. Henry had worked in the boiler house and hydro plant at Witco Chemical in Petrolia for 33 years and retired in 1984. He also had worked at Keystone Mining Co. in Kissinger Mills, Clarion County, for four years,
He was a member St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Emily M. “Peg” Henry, whom he married April 5, 1947; two sons, Martin P. Henry of Pleasant Hills, and Timothy S. Henry of Butler; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Irene A. Glaviano
Irene A. Glaviano, 86, formerly of Ziegler Avenue, died at 4:20 a.m. today at Lowrie House.
Born in Butler, June 7, 1917, she was the daughter of Joseph and Prima Tosci Maltagliati.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Butler Memorial Hospital for 11 years, at the Sugar Bowl for 14 years and at Spaide Shirt factory for eight years.
Mrs. Glaviano was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and the 55 & Alive and Ladies Guild of the church. She also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and the AARP.
Surviving are a son, Samuel L. Glaviano of Westerville, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Georgia Smith of Butler; a brother, Rene Maltaglate of Butler; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel H. Glaviano, who died Nov. 20, 1984; two brothers, and a sister.

Cathy M. Boofer
Cathy M. Boofer, 46, of 507 Cherry Road, Chicora, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a long illness.
Born in Kittanning, Aug. 12 1954, she was the daughter of Chester and Theressa McClaine Thompson.
She was a member of the Butler Salvation Army. She also belonged to the League of Mercy and the Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Boofer enjoyed reading and plastic canvas crafts.
She is survived by her husband, John E. Boofer, whom she married July 23, 1988, in Frogtown; a daughter, Elizabeth V. Boofer of Chicora; a son, Terry Smith with the armed forces; two stepsons, J.D. Boofer of Parker and Howard Boofer of Albion; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Frank (Mary Jane) Ealy of Bruin, Myrtle McClure of Parker, Mrs. Robert (Peggy) Martin of Petrolia and Mrs. Mamie Utterback of Karns City; a grandchild; 17 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Samuel and Chester Thompson, both of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Connie) DuBois of Prentice, Wis.; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a stepdaughter.

Brandi L. Tabisz
Brandi L. Tabisz, 18, of Valencia died Thursday at St. Francis Medical Center in Cranberry Township, from a blood clot.
She was born Aug. 23, 1982, in Pittsburgh.
She was a Mars High School Class of 2000 graduate and a student at Butler County Community College.
She is survived by her daughter; Hayleigh Louise Fetterhoff; her fiancé, Justin Fetterhoff; her parents, Timothy and Mary Lou Tabisz; two brothers, Tim and Greg Tabisz, all of Valencia; grandparents, James and Rene Selzer of Saxonburg and Josephine and the late Edward Tabisz of Richland Township; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

William Raper
William Raper, 74, a 26-year resident of 1024 Centertown Road, Wolf Creek Township, Mercer County, died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday at United Community Hospital, Grove City, after an 18-month illness.
Born in Leechburg, Armstrong County, April 17, 1927, he was the son of William D. and Alice Pfeffer Raper.
He had retired as an auto driver at Adessa Auto Auction, formerly Interstate Auto Auction, in Jackson Center. He also was a self-employed pilot and crop duster.
Mr. Raper was a Protestant.
His wife, Donna P. Foust Raper, whom he married Nov. 6, 1965, died May 8, 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Linda) Wallace of Clenburn, N.D., and Deborah Houghtaling of Grove City; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Cynthia) Cramer of Greenville and Mrs. Douglas (Wendy) Nashtock of Sharpsville; and nine grandchildren.

Rev. Ralph McCandless
The Rev. Ralph McCandless, 79, of 112 Greenhill Drive died at 11:08 a.m. Saturday in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 2, 1921, in Butler, he was the son of Jennings Coulter and Goldie Walters McCandless.
He was a 1958 graduate of Grove City College and a 1962 graduate of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
He served as pastor of churches in the Kiskiminetas, Shenango, Pittsburgh and Beaver-Butler presbyteries.
He retired in 1986 from the Pleasant Unity Presbyterian Church near Tarentum.
Rev. McCandless was a member of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, the Unionville Grange, the Mora Club and NARFE.
He also was the co-owner of the Hermitage Dairy from 1939 to 1955.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Kelly McCandless.
Also surviving are a son, Brian McCandless of Meridian; a brother, the Rev. John McCandless of Livermore, Calif.; two grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a brother and an infant sister.
