Lawrence J. Hughes Jr., 83, of Zelienople, formerly of Mars, died Monday at Passavant Retirement & Health Center, Zelienople.
Born April 18, 1920, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Lawrence J. and Jane Dines Hughes Sr.
He had retired from the Home Life Insurance Co. of Greentree, where he had been a sales agent.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Mars VFW Post. He attended St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church, Mars.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward G. (Marlene) Sipp of Cranberry Township and Mrs. Wilfred (Patricia) Nold of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a brother, William Hughes of Coraopolis; and a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Jane) Lijewski of Pittsburgh. Four grandchildren also survive.
His wife, Dorothy Brandl Hughes, died May 11, 1969. A sister and two brothers also preceded him in death.
HUGHES - Friends of Lawrence J. Hughes Jr., who died Monday, July 21, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, Cranberry Township. Burial will be at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery , Ross Township.
Joshua Robert Hipple
Joshua Robert Hipple, 22, of New Brighton, Beaver County, died unexpectedly Tuesday at the Medical Center in Beaver.
Born April 16, 1981, in Brighton Township, he was the son of Michael William and Barbara Loose Hipple.
He was a student at the New Castle School of Trades and a social member of the Oak Hill Vets in New Brighton.
Surviving are his mother of New Brighton; a brother, Michael L. Hipple of New Brighton; a stepbrother, Jessie R. Hipple of Rochester; his maternal grandparents, Robert E. and Shirley A. Loose of East Brady; his paternal great-grandmother, Myrtle Hipple of New Brighton; four uncles; and a number of other family members and friends.
His father, his paternal great-grandfather and an uncle preceded him in death.
HIPPLE - Friends of Joshua Robert Hipple, who died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Audrey D. Baldwin, pastor of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church in New Brighton, officiating. Private interment
will be in Robinson Cemetery in Hillville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mr. Hipple’s mother.
Katherine E. ‘Kathy’ Hartman
Katherine E. “Kathy” Hartman, 86, died of natural causes Friday, July 18, 2003, in Washington, D.C.
She was born March 31, 1917, in Butler to William A. and Elizabeth Killian Hartman.
Ms. Hartman was one of the first stewardesses in the early airline industry. She later joined the U.S. State Department, with postings in England and Turkey. Upon her return to Washington, D.C., she held positions with the World Bank and State Department, retiring in 1999 at the age of 82.
Ms. Hartman held a master’s degree in tourism administration from George Washington University and was recognized by the Kennedy Center for 25 years of volunteer service.
She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Keller of Canton, Ohio, Mrs. Ann O’Sullivan and Mrs. Raymond (Sheila) Stehle, both of Butler, and Louise Hartman of Pittsburgh; and two brothers, Philip Hartman of Cleveland, Ohio, and James Hartman of Athens, Ohio. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Her stepmother, Katherine; a brother, Edward; and a sister, Margaret; preceded her in death.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be later. Arrangements are being completed by GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME.
Bert L. George
Bert L. George, 70, of Paulden, Ariz., died May 20, 2003, at his home after a five-year illness.
Born Nov. 6, 1932, in Cabot, he was the son of Clarence and Beulah Savage George
He was a retired painter and enjoyed fishing, playing guitar and singing country music songs. He was a Catholic.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Beilstein George, whom he married June 6, 1953, at St. John Roman Catholic Church, Coylesville; a son, Dan George of Paulden; two daughters, Melody Hopkins of Chandler, Ariz., and Sharon Bencic of Paulden; four sisters, Beatrice Cypher of Cabot, Blanche Baptiste of Fenelton, Joyce Vidas of Saxonburg and Bernadette Geibel of Butler; and a brother, Clarence “Cork” George of Florida. Nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a son and two sisters.
A memorial service was held in Chino, Ariz.
Donald D. Bintrim
Donald D. Bintrim, 68, of Harmony died Monday at St. John’s Specialty Care Center in Mars.
Born Nov. 4, 1934, in Lancaster Township, he was the son of Ira and Pearl Druschel Bintrim.
He was a structural engineer who helped construct the hangar doors in Cape Canaveral, Fla., for the president’s helicopter in Washington, D.C., and for the Stealth bomber.
Mr. Bintrim worked for the military in Diego Garcia and also traveled to Venezuela to install hangar doors at a hydroelectric plant.
He also assisted in constructing the ski lifts in Sunday River, Maine, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Maine, and Boyce Park.
An Army veteran, he was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and Harmony Lodge 429 Free and Associated Masons.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed camping and gardening.
Surviving is his wife, Carol A. Stenzel Bintrim, whom he married Nov. 14, 1964.
Also surviving are a daughter, Dawn M. Mawhinney of Rohnert Park, Calif.; a son, Eric M. Bintrim of Shenango; three sisters, Velma Cleland of Middle Lancaster Township, Dorothy Brandenburg of Philadelphia and Emma Lou Knauf of Evans City; and two grandsons.
Six brothers preceded him in death.
BINTRIM - There will be no visitation for Donald D. Bintrim, who died Monday, July 21, 2003. A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. July 30 at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Pete F. Muto
Pete F. Muto, 85, of Evans City died Sunday at Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony.
Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Evans City, he was the son of Pietro P. and Teresa Chiapetta Muto Manerino and the stepson of Patsy Manerino, who raised him after the death of his father in a house fire.
He had owned and operated Muto’s Radiator Repair, Towing and Crane Service in Evans City for more than 45 years.
Mr. Muto served with the Navy during World War II and was a charter member of the Loyal Order of the Moose 957 in Harmony. He was also a member of the Butler Elks 170, the Evans City Fire Department and American Legion Post 219 in Evans City.
He was a Protestant.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Maryann) Guthrie of Apopka, Fla.; a brother, Albert Manerino of Mars; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
His wife, Stella Schott Muto, whom he married June 22, 1942, died April 20, 1997. Two sisters also preceded him in death.
MUTO - Friends of Pete F. Muto, who died Sunday, July 20, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at KINSEY-VOLZ FUNERAL HOME in Evans City. Services will be at 8:30 Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Ritzert, pastor of St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church in Evans City, officiating. Burial will be in Evans City Cemetery .

Virginia L. Buttermore
Virginia L. Buttermore, 81, of Gibsonia, formerly of Wexford, died Wednesday.
She was the daughter of William and Kathleen Bozett.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Spiegel; a son, David W. Buttermore; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband, David F. Buttermore, preceded her in death.
BUTTERMORE - Friends of Virginia L. Buttermore, who died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, 10418 Perry Highway, McCandless. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Perry Highway Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wexford with the Rev. Theodore Hempfling
Theodore R. Hempfling, 74, of Hart, Mich., died July 3, 2003.
Born in Mount Chestnut, Oct. 27, 1928, he was the son of Albert and Jessie Wigton Hempfling.
He was a retired boilermaker and had a small engine repair shop. He was a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Karyln Johnson Hempfling; two daughters; a son; five stepchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Samuel (Gertrude) Cherry of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Six brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Burial was in Hart, Mich.
James A. Ferrainola
James A. Ferrainola, 48, of Harmony died unexpectedly Friday at UPMC Passavant, Cranberry Township.
Born April 5, 1955, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Dr. Sam and Gerda Schaeffer Ferrainola.
He was the western supervisor of admissions for Glen Mills Schools. He also was the Seneca Valley inline hockey coach and was a motorcycle enthusiast and an avid musician.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy Meyercheck Ferrainola, whom he married May 25, 1974; two sons, Jason J. and Vinnie T. Ferrainola, both of Harmony; his parents of Glen Mills; a brother and three sisters, Joseph Ferrainola, Rosanne Hurst, Rita Schlett and Tresa Ferrainola, all of Glen Mills. Also surviving are 23 nieces and nephews and a grandniece.
FERRAINOLA - Friends of James A. Ferrainola, who died Friday, July 18, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the English Lutheran Church of Zelienople with the Rev. Robert Keplinger officiating. Everyone is to meet at the church.

Beulah R. Dimun
Beulah R. Dimun, 79, of 214 Wiltshire Ave. died Thursday at Sunnyview Nursing Home.
Born June 21, 1924, in Curwensville, Clearfield County, she was the daughter of James McFadden Browne and Edith Hutchinson Browne.
A graduate of Butler High School, she had been a bookkeeper and clerk for a number of local businesses when she was a young woman. Later she retired from the Butler Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in May 1970 after seven years as a personnel clerk.
Mrs. Dimun was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lyndora.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Dimun Jr., whom she married Aug. 12, 1947; two children, Michele Welsh and her husband Robert of New Castle, and Paula Acquaviva and her husband Michael of Frederick, Md.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Jennifer Panella and Adam Welsh; and four great-grandchildren, Marty and Mykalyn Panella and Devon and Dylan Welsh.
Three sisters, Mrs. Betty Fend, Mrs. Norma Brennan and Mrs. Donna Bergbigler, all of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
DIMUN - Friends of Beulah R. Dimun, who died Thursday, July 17, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. A funeral liturgy will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lyndora. The Rev. Dennis Bogda will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery .
A parastas service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
