James Barbati, 78, of Ellport, Ellwood City, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born Sept. 8, 1924, in Ellwood City, he was the son of Alfonso and Filomena “Mae” Rubino Barbati.
Mr. Barbati was manager for Century Food and Loblaws in Ellwood City and the grocery department for K-Mart in Rochester. He owned and operated Jim’s Superette in Ellport, then worked in the delicatessen department for Goodings and the Winn-Dixie in Florida.
He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish, Purification Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church.
A 1942 graduate of Lincoln High School, he had lived in Ellwood City before moving to Orlando, Fla., in 1980. He moved back in September 2002.
He was a former season ticket holder of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins and enjoyed cooking.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara “Bea” Barbati of Cassel Berry, Fla.; two sons, Alfonso Barbati of Prospect and James Barbati of Barberton, Ohio; two sisters, Frances Perrone of Canfield, Ohio, and Mary “Dolly” Lucas of Strasburg, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Getsay Barbati, whom he married Aug. 4, 1945, and who died Oct. 13, 1999; a sister, and two brothers.
BARBATI - Friends of James Barbati, who died Saturday, July 5, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at SAMUEL TEOLIS FUNERAL HOME, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Purification Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery . Those attending the funeral Mass are asked to meet at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The procession will leave at 9:30 a.m.
Ronald McKinney
Ronald “Tom” McKinney, 76, of Clarion died Monday at Clarion Hospital.
Born Nov. 17, 1926, in East Brady, he was the son of David and Mable Seigworth McKinney.
He was a World War II Army veteran and retired in 1989 from C&K Coal Co. after more than 20 years in the warehouse.
Mr. McKinney was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion, Masonic Lodge 277 of Clarion, Coudersport Consistory and Erie Shrine.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Moore McKinney, whom he married Sept. 4, 1948; four daughters, Kathleen Masters and Marsha Strattan, both of Limestone, Mallory Joan Wagner of Venus and Diane Bennett of Sligo; and six grandchildren.
He also is survived by three brothers, Eugene McKinney of Meridian, David McKinney of Rimersburg and Richard McKinney of Arizona; and two sisters, Sarah Summerville of Rimersburg and Donna Steiner of Sligo.

Larry Marzullo
Survivors of Larry Marzullo, who died Saturday, include a brother, Donald Marzullo of Butler. An incorrect first name and no city of residence was provided for the brother in the obituary in Monday’s newspaper.

Bud Ellsworth Irwin
Bud Ellsworth Irwin, 75 of Meridian, formerly of Oil City, died at 4 a.m. Monday at his home.
Born Aug. 21, 1927, in Titusville, he was the son of Harry and Pearl Lineman Irwin.
At the end of World War II, he served with the Army, where he learned his profession as an installer/repairman. He used this skill at GTE in Oil City and retired after 37 years.
He moved to Meridian where he opened and operated a telephone/electric wiring business for 15 years.
Mr. Irwin was a member of the Church of God in Evans City for 41 years.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Louise Alden Irwin, whom he married Oct. 7, 1952; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Kathleen Anne) Smith of Beaver Falls and Mrs. Terry (Nancy Sue) Major and Brenda Joy Stidman, both of Meridian; three sons, Bud Eugene Irwin of Kennerdell, Mark Brent Irwin of Callery and Dave Charles Irwin of Butler; and two sisters, Mrs. Duval (Peggy Lou) Haynes of Fredericksburg, Va., and Mrs. Wayne (June) Fish of Harmony. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and a son.

Freda M. Goeppner
Freda M. Goeppner, 89, formerly of West Brady Street, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Chicora Medical Center.
Born in Butler, Sept. 27, 1913, she was the daughter of Edward C. and Ruth L. Brewer Culbertson.
She had been a clerk at Cutaway Meat Market for 24 years and belonged to the Amalgamated Food Handlers. She also belonged to the AARP, and she was a Protestant.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Margaret) Heasley of Cranberry Township; a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A daughter, granddaughter, three sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
There will be no public visitation. A private service was today at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. David Brown, pastor of North Main Street Church of God, officiating. Burial was at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.

Lloyd Fisher
Lloyd Fisher, 78, formerly of Euclid Road, died Sunday evening at Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg, where he was a resident for three years.
Born Aug. 5, 1924, in Whitestown, Connoquenessing Township, he was the son of George and Katie Klinger Fisher.
He had worked at the Mary Elizabeth Coal Co. and retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
He is survived by two sisters, Martha Kemper of Prospect and Mrs. Merle (Mary) Sefton of Franklin Township; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Services and burial at Crown Hill Cemetery , Prospect, are private. EDWARD L. RAISLEY FUNERAL HOME, Prospect, is handling arrangements.
Albert A. Champ
Albert A. Champ, 92, of Forest Hills, Allegheny County, died Monday.
He had been a police officer in Forest Hills in the 1930s and was one of the borough’s first motorcycle officers. He later was a carpenter and worked in home construction in the Forest Hills and West Mifflin areas.
Surviving are a son, Ronald A. Champ and his wife Valjean of Butler; eight grandchildren, Warren A. Champ, Bethany L. Yusko, Tammy J. Boice, Kim Bradford, William, Russell and Rick Adkins and Lauren Kolesar; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline F. Betlej Champ; a daughter, Audrey Adkins; and a brother, Edward Champ.

Hugh K. Warman
Hugh K. Warman, 54, of Evans City died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, of natural causes at his home.
Born Oct. 20, 1948, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Clara Olszewski Warman and the late Gerald W. Warman.
Mr. Warman served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Evans City VFW Post 499.
Surviving are a daughter and a son, Amber J. and Clinton H. Warman, both of Zelienople; his mother of Valencia; three brothers, Gerald Warman of Valencia, James Warman of Springport, Ind., and Warren Warman of Butler; and two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Geraldine) Pindroh and Mrs. Gary (Luella) Rochna, both of Valencia. He also is survived by three grandchildren.
Services and burial will be private.

Jane C. Vorpe
Jane C. Vorpe, 62, of Cranberry Township died Monday at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless.
Born Feb. 11, 1941, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of John and Betty Moore Shaw.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Vorpe, whom she married Feb. 10, 1968; two daughters, Erin and Colleen Vorpe, both of Cranberry Township; two sisters, Joan Perry of Anna Maria Island, Fla., and Susan Dalgleish of Franklin, N.C.; and a brother, John M. Shaw of Saxonburg.

Freda I. Settlemire
Freda I. Settlemire, 100, of Mars died Tuesday afternoon at Sugar Creek Rest, Worthington.
Born in Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, Sept. 21, 1902, she was the daughter of Edward C. and Alice A. McKelvy Weigand.
Mrs. Settlemire had been a licensed practical nurse at the Heart House in Valencia and also had been a clerk at Zeigler’s 5-and-10-cent store in Mars.
She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Chicora and the Mars American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Elaine Henry Settlemire of Mars, three grandchildren, Toni Taylor and Scott and Richard Settlemire; and three great-grandsons, Richard Meridian and R. Grant and Eric M. Settlemire; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Grant Settlemire, who died in 1926; a son, G. Dale Settlemire, who died in 1994; two brothers, Wilbur and James Weigand; and three sisters, Deretha Miller, Oma Weigand, and Myrtle McGinnis.
