Robert R. Neville III

Robert R. Neville III, 65, of Evans City died Saturday afternoon at his home of natural causes.

Born Nov. 9, 1937, in Aliquippa, he was the son of Robert R. Jr. and Charlotte Yoho Neville.

He was a Air Force veteran, served in Vietnam and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Force Commendation Medal and 15 Air Medals. He retired as a lieutenant colonel with the Air National Guard, Pittsburgh, with 28 years. He had flown the F-80, F-102, F-4 and A-7.

He was a ground instructor for the 737 airplane for U.S. Air for 18 years. A 1956 graduate of Aliquippa High School and a 1962 alumnus of Allegheny College in Meadville, he taught sixth grade in the Western Beaver School District for three years.

Mr. Neville was a member of the Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the New Castle Consistory, the Syria Shrine and Cranberry Elks Lodge 2249. He had a black belt in ATA and was a member of the Cruzin’ Few Car Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carol Bishton Neville of Evans City; a son, Scott Neville of Patuxent River, Md.; a daughter, Heather Brown of Ellwood City; a sister, Mrs. David (Charlotte) Brown of Virginia Beach, Va.; and six grandchildren.

NEVILLE - Friends of Robert R. Neville III, who died Saturday, May 31, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at KINSEY-VOLZ FUNERAL HOME, Evans City, at which time friends will gather for memories.

Harmony Lodge 429 will hold Masonic services at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ralph R. Goehring

Ralph R. Goehring, 90, formerly of Second Street, died at 11:15 p.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born in Evans City, Nov. 30, 1912, he was the son of Harvey and Sarah Rape Goehring.

Mr. Goehring was a welder in the weld shop maintenance department at Armco-Butler Works and retired in 1975 after 35 years. While at Armco, he also owned and operated Goehring’s Welding Shop for 31 years.

He was a member of the Calvary Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Armco Veterans Club, Butler Elks Club 170, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 64 of Butler, the Butler Hunting and Fishing Club of which he was a past president and treasurer, and AARP.

He is survived by three sons, R. Richard Goehring of Piperville, Bucks County, Michael A, Goehring of Pensacola, Fla., and Robert G. Goehring of Sigel, Jefferson County; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Blanche Podehl of Wilkes Barre, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

His wife, Margaret Shalbot Goehring, died on Jan. 18, 1997. A grandson and two sisters also preceded him in death.

GOEHRING - Friends of Ralph R. Goehring, who died Friday, May 30, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Allen Moran, his church pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.

Samuel E. Frishkorn

Samuel E. Frishkorn, 77, of Jackson Township died Saturday at his home.

Born June 28, 1925, in Jackson Township, he was a son of Samuel and Edna Harper Frishkorn.

He was a World War II Army veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was one of two survivors from his company to survive the battle, and he received four Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

Mr. Frishkorn retired from Lava Crucible in Zelienople. He also had worked as a developer and builder.

He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

He was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church, Zelienople and the Evans City American Legion Post 219 and Harmony Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 957.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frishkorn, whom he married Sept. 19, 1946.

Also surviving are three sons, Edward Frishkorn of Pittsburgh, John Frishkorn of Harmony and James Frishkorn of Hawaii; four daughters, Patricia Goetz and Jane Houk, both of Zelienople, Betty Lou Nimberger of State College and Norma Frishkorn of Kittanning; three sisters, Jacqueline Roussos of New Castle, Judith Kennedy of Evans City and Janet Richardson of Ellwood City; two brothers, George Frishkorn of Evans City and Joe Frishkorn of Zelienople; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

FRISHKORN - Friends of Samuel E. Frishkorn, who died Saturday, May 31, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvin Presbyterian Church in Zelienople with the Rev. Dr. N. Graham Standish, his pastor, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Calvin Presbyterian Church, 415 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063.

Mary B. Deems

Mary B. Deems, 89, of Perry Township, Lawrence County, died at 5 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born in Sandy Lake Mercer County, Sept. 16, 1913, she was the daughter of Ernest and Carrie Mook Reed.

She moved to the Ellwood City area in 1941 and was a member of the Mountville Presbyterian Church of Portersville. She also belonged to the Portersville Keen-Agers, the Senior Citizens Wednesday Bingo and Luncheon Group of Ellwood City, the Golden Agers and the Keys to the Kingdom Senior Center.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet Deems Poerschke of New Castle and Patricia A. Stover of Lebanon, Tenn.; five sons, Donald W. Deems of Volant, Charles E. Deems of Richlands, N.C., Wendell P. Deems of Beckley, W.Va., Thomas E. Deems of Beaufort, S.C., and Kenneth L. Deems of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. A sister, Phyllis Harrison of Greenville, also survives.

Her husband, William H. Deems, whom she married June 30, 1934, died Feb. 23, 1977. An infant daughter, a sister and a grandson also preceded her in death.

Services were today at TURNER FUNERAL HOME, Ellwood City. The Rev. Donald Hurray, her pastor, officiated. Burial was at Slippery Rock Cemetery , Wayne Township, Lawrence County.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mountville Presbyterian Church.

Vera E. Cumblidge

Vera E. Cumblidge, 91, formerly of New Castle Road in Butler, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Butler Township.

Born Dec. 10, 1911, in Worthington, she was a daughter of Raymond and Myrtle Bowser.

Mrs. Cumblidge was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Glenn W., Kenneth E. and Paul D. Cumblidge, all of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Green; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; a step-great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, two sisters and two brothers.

CUMBLIDGE - Friends of Vera E. Cumblidge, who died Sunday, June 1, 2003; will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, Butler. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Maitland, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Butler County Memorial Park.

Delores ‘Dee’ Crowley

Delores L. “Dee” Crowley, 71, of Bradys Bend and formerly of East Brady died Saturday at the Chicora Medical Center.

Born July 11, 1931, in East Brady, she was a daughter of Clarence and Lulu Greenawalt Sebring.

She was a 1949 East Brady High School graduate who worked as a packer for Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Clarion for 20 years.

Mrs. Crowley enjoyed knitting, crocheting, camping, baking, arts and crafts.

She was a Methodist.

She is survived by her husband, William Crowley, whom she married Aug. 6, 1987.

Also surviving is a son, John Posey of Butler; two daughters, Karen Moore of Butler and Tracy Jack of Bradys Bend; a step-son, William Crowley of Queenstown; three step-daughters, Sherry Kisner of Butler, Sally Steadman of Prattsville, Ala., and Kathleen Crowley of Ford City; two brothers, Robert Sebring of Cleveland and Earl Sebring of Orlando, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, two brothers and a sister.

CROWLEY - Friends of Delores L. “Dee” Crowley, who died Saturday, May 31, 2003 will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the CHARLES B. BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME, 105 Fourth St., East Brady. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Russell, pastor of the United Methodist Church in East Brady, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery , Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.

Dr. Leroy M. Potter

Dr. Leroy “Roy” Minteer Potter, 66, of Butler died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born June 13, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Dr. Leroy R. and the late Mary Alice Minteer Potter.

Dr. Potter was a 1953 graduate of Butler High School, a 1957 graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville and a 1962 graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine.

His specialties during his 40 years of practice in Butler were podiatry, sports medicine and diabetic care. At various times, he served on the medical staff of Youngstown Foot Clinic and Grove City Hospital, has spent years at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Sunnyview Nursing Home and currently was at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Potter, who was active in Butler Little Theatre and Musical Theater Guild Singers, was a life member of Butler Musical Theatre Guild and received numerous acting awards.

He also belonged to the Butler County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and the Masons and was a former member of the Elks and the Butler Symphony Board. He was a Boy Scout assistant leader for Troop 1, a former member of the Irene Stacy Mental Health Board and a past treasurer of Butler Youth Football.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Kaltenbach Potter, whom he married Dec. 24, 1975; a daughter, Julia Elizabeth “Beth” Potter of Ellicott City, Md.; a son, John Theodore “Ted” Potter of Penfield, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Two sisters, Mary Alice “Beth” Gwilliam of Plymouth, N.Y., and Margaret “Peggy” Marshall of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Private services and burial were held by the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements were handled by YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, Butler.

Nadine Garbisch Kurtz

Nadine Garbisch Kurtz, 73, of 202 Bellefield Drive died at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at her home.

Born in Butler, Oct. 18, 1929, she was the daughter of Norbert S. and Victoria Phillips Garbisch.

Mrs. Kurtz was a graduate of Mount Vernon Seminary, Finch Junior College and the Katharine Gibbs School.

She was a member of the Covenant United Presbyterian Church, Butler Literary Club and Butler Country Club.

She was the co-author with her mother of a book of verse, “Little Songs That Sing,” which was published in 1956.

Mrs. Kurtz is survived by a son, Kevin Douglas Kurtz of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Robert G. (Victoria) Jackson of Gibsonia; and three nephews.

Her husband, George S. Kurtz Jr., whom she married Oct. 21, 1950, died Oct. 26, 1990. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Garbisch Anderson; and a brother, Norbert S. Garbisch Jr.

There will be no visitation. Burial will be at North Cemetery . The memorial service and burial will be private.

Memorial gifts may be made to the North Cemetery Memorial Fund, 1002 N. Main St., Butler, PA 16001.

THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME is handling arrangements.

James T. ‘Tom’ Kearse

James Thompson “Tom” Kearse, 43, of Marshall, Ark., formerly of Butler, died April 21, 2003, in Marshall.

Born June 13, 1959, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Fontaine Klutinoty Kearse and the late George Warren Kearse.

He was a 1977 graduate of Butler High School and worked in construction and sales.

Mr. Kearse was a member of Martin Box Mennonite Church in Marshall.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise Critchfield Kearse, whom he married Oct. 5, 1985, in Butler; a daughter and two sons, Faith, Jonathan and Jesse Kearse, all of Marshall; his mother of Butler; and a sister, Stephanie Kearse of Arlington, Va.

He was buried April 26 in Marshall.

Tuesday, June 3, 2003

Ralph V. Collins, 82, of Butler died Monday in the emergency room at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are being completed by Geibel Funeral Home.
