Richard Leroy Casserly

Richard Leroy Casserly, 83, of Zelienople died Wednesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless.

Born March 21, 1920, in Zelienople, he was the son of James Edward and Pearl Elizabeth Lefever Casserly.

A graduate of Zelienople High School and Slippery Rock College, he pursued graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh. He had taught school and later owned and operated the Dicy-Ann’s doughnut store in Zelienople.

Mr. Casserly had played and coached football and basketball. He also was an avid tennis player and played matches against National Tennis Champion Donald Budge. He was a train enthusiast and also was interested in Civil War history.

During World War II, he served with the Army and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Battle of the Bulge Veterans’ group and a life member of the Cranberry Township VFW Post 879.

He attended the Grace Church of Harmony and was a member of the Senior Saints group.

Surviving are his fiancée, Inez J. Broom of Zelienople; a sister, Helen Ritchey of Pineville, N.C.; and a niece.

His wife, Anna Mae Scheidemantel Casserly, died in 1973; and a daughter, Rebekah Ann Casserly, died in 1952.

CASSERLY - Friends of Richard Leroy Casserly, who died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Chaplain Roscoe Mulvey officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery , Middle Lancaster.

Marie R. Shearer

Marie R. Shearer, 91, of 411 Negley Ave. died at 4 p.m. Thursday at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

Born in Butler, Dec. 29, 1911, she was the daughter of Jacob and Marie Mangold.

Mrs. Shearer was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the King’s Daughters’ Sunday School Class at her church. She also was a member of the Butler Chapter 45 Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Armco Golf Club.

She is survived by her husband, Merle N. Shearer, whom she married Aug. 19, 1940; and three sons, Merle N. Shearer Jr. of Sarver, Jacob M. “Jack” Shearer of Richmond, Va., and Glenn R. Shearer. Six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister

SHEARER - Friends of Marie R. Shearer, who died Thursday, May 15, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Leseganich, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at South Cemetery .

Mary K. Lang

Mary K. Lang, 77, of Cabot died Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Butler, Sept. 14, 1925, she was the daughter of James V. Sr. and Cecile Kottraba Miller.

She retired from Butler Vulcanizing, which was her family-owned business. She was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed reading and cards.

Mrs. Lang was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Cabot.

Her husband, Elmer Louis Lang, died Sept. 19, 1960.

Surviving are a son, Jack M. Lang of Saxonburg; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Kathryn) Croft of State College, Mrs. Fred (Janet) Poeppel of Albion, Erie County, and Mrs. Ken (Barbara) Simpson of Sarver; a brother, James V. Miller Jr. of Butler; and a sister, Mrs. Melvin (Nancy) Crispin of Butler. Ten grandchildren also survive.

LANG - Friends of Mary K. Lang, who died Thursday, May 15, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Cabot, with the Rev. Barry Keurulainen officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

Memorial donations may be made to the library or charity of the donor’s choice.

Cora A. Harrison

Cora A. Harrison, 101, formerly of Wexford and Mars, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, in Atlanta, Ga.

A longtime resident of Wexford, she also lived in Mars for more than 30 years and was a member of the Mars United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Harrison is survived by a daughter, Anne H. Zboran of Atlanta; two sons, Dean V. Harrison of Mars and Lee E. Harrison of Beaverton, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was today at SANDY SPRINGS CHAPEL, Atlanta. Graveside services will be Monday at Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park.

Louis Garcia

Louis Garcia, 86, of Saxonburg died Friday at North Hills Passavant.

Born Oct. 30, 1916, in Meadowbrook, W.Va., he was the son of Raymond and Dolores Perez Garcia.

He served in the Army and the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Garcia had worked for Pinkerton Security at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh and U.S. Steel in Saxonburg, where he retired.

He was a member of VFW Post 894 and its memorial squad and the South Buffalo Recreation Association. He was a life member of the Owls Club in Russellton and a life member of the American Legion Home Post 226 in Brackenridge.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Linda) Doughty of Butler and Mrs. David (Nina) Petrosky of Saxonburg; a son, John Garcia of Tallmadge, Ohio; four sisters, Aurora Garcia, Mrs. Joseph (Alice) Spotleson, Lucy Shankle and Mrs. Charles (Angelina) Gravue, all of Canton, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

His wife, Elvie E. Garcia, died Sept. 26, 1995. Four brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

GARCIA - Friends of Louis Garcia, who died Friday, May 16, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Airy Cemetery in Natrona Heights.

Alberta B. FaJohn

Alberta Blanchar FaJohn, formerly of Boyers, died of cancer Wednesday, May 15, 2003, at her home in Richmond, Va.

She is survived by her husband, former Boyers resident Ardent FaJohn; seven children; 29 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister and a brother.

Funeral services will be Monday at MORRISETT FUNERAL HOME, Richmond.

Richard H. Crompton

Richard Howard Crompton, 55, of Lower Burrell, formerly of Ross Township, died Thursday at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born June 27, 1947, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late James Edward Sr. and Gertrude H. Kirkpatrick Crompton.

He purchased the West Sunbury Milling Co., which he operated from 1973 until 1981. He then was general manager for Tesone Enterprises for more than 15 years and was the president of R.A.M. Transit Lines from 1993 until 1996.

He then founded and served, until the present, as president and CEO of RAM Terminals, a river terminal company in New Kensington.

He was a member of Victory Lodge 694 F&AM of Butler.

Surviving are his wife, Jane A. Eckert Crompton; a daughter, Natalee Crompton Conway and her husband, Tucker, of Grove City; and his siblings and their spouses, Anna and Lou Geraci of Port St. Lucie Fla., James E. and Pam Crompton Jr. of Pawcatuck Conn., Eleanor and Dick Lewis of Monroeville, Joan Johnson of Glenshaw, Kathy Wallace of Ridgeville, Judy and Chuck Kasza of Ormond Beach Fla., and John and Lorrie Crompton of Callensburg.

CROMPTON - There will be no public viewing. However, the family of Richard Howard Crompton, who died Thursday, May 15, 2003, will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at HERBERT R. KING JR. FUNERAL HOME, Route 8 at 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park. A Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas in the Fields Episcopal Church, 4106 St. Thomas Drive, corner of Route 8 and Dickey Road, near Bakerstown. His nephew, Richard Lewis Jr. and his brother, James Crompton will conduct the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Drew Mathieson Entrepreneurship Fund, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, 5150 Centre Ave., 1st Floor, Pittsburgh PA 15232; or the charity of the donor’s choice.

George M. Snow

George M. Snow, 80, of Verona died Friday at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was Born Oct. 23, 1922, in Bruin to James R. and Iva B. McKinney Snow.

Mr. Snow retired as a Port Authority bus driver in 1985 after 35 years.

He served in the Army Air Corp in World War II.

He enjoyed playing and watching golf, Pirates baseball games, and making lamps and outdoor furniture.

Surviving are his son, Gary L. Snow of Natrona Heights; and two granddaughters.

His wife, Helen Snow, and two brothers preceded him in death.

SNOW - Funeral services for George M. Snow, who died Friday, May 16, 2003, were this morning at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME in Oakmont with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery , Chicora.

Raymond K. Smith

Raymond K. “Little Joe” Smith, 86, of Zelienople died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 17, 1916, in Meridian, he was the son of L. Leroy and Alice Charlier Smith.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Park United Presbyterian Church in Zelienople and the Cranberry Senior Center.

He is survived by two sisters, Ethel L. Smith of Zelienople and Mrs. Robert A. (Gene) Johnston of Renfrew; a nephew; and two grandnieces.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and a sister.

SMITH - A memorial service for Raymond K. “Little Joe” Smith, who died Saturday, May 17, 2003, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Park United Presbyterian Church, Zelienople. The Rev. Thomas Clyde will officiate. Private burial was at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Park United Presbyterian Church, 115 E. Grandview Ave, Zelienople, PA 16063.

Arrangements are entrusted to GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME, Zelienople.

G. Jeannine Sheakley

G. Jeannine Sheakley, 72, of Sycamore Road, Karns City died at 6 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh following an illness.

Born Nov. 5, 1930, in East Brady, she was the daughter of the late Michael E. DeCorte and Bessie M. McKinney DeCorte.

Mrs. Sheakley was a member of the St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church in East Brady. She graduated from East Brady High School in 1948 and later graduated from the Butler Business College.

She was employed for 33 years by Witco Corp. in Petrolia and worked as an accountant at the carbon plant and later in the shipping department, retiring in 1995.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Sheakley, whom she married Sept. 12, 1949; a son and his wife, Stephen R. and Donna M. Sheakley of Karns City; two daughters, Cindy Anderson and her husband Paul of Karns City, and Marylee A. Fox of Butler; five grandchildren, Joni Crouch and her husband Brian of Butler, Jason Sheakley and his wife Tracy of East Brady, Garrett Sheakley of Karns City, Joshua Anderson of Karns City, and John Henry Sheakley Fox of Butler.

Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Madison Sheakley of East Brady, Tyler Anderson of Karns City, Xander Sheakley of East Butler, Grace Crouch of Butler, and Ava Sheakley of East Brady; a sister-in-law, Katherine DeCorte of Nickleville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Henry Sheakley on April 13, 1973; a daughter, Susan Lynn Sheakley on July 28, 1958; and two brothers, Charles DeCorte and Thomas DeCorte.

SHEAKLEY - Friends of G. Jeannine Sheakley, who died Saturday, May 17, 2003, will be received at the RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora with the Rev. David DeWitt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Bear Creek Cemetery in Petrolia.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association, care of: Heart Disease Research Foundation, National Office, 50 Court St., 306A, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11201-4801, or to the donor’s choice.
